An fyi for those out there in love with your og dinc! Be careful with it I accidentally ran mine over and Asurion is replacing them with DInc2s, Im not sure how I feel about it yet as i wont get my hands on it for a couple of days as im out of town and wont be home until late tomorrow luckily I had a spare phone and my tablet
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA Premium App
I wished that happened to me. I had to go through that process, but they still sent me a Dinc.
The 2 isn't bad now that its permanently rooted and they've got AOSP roms (CM7, MIUI) as well as sense ones, if that's what you're in to. It seems pretty responsive and the screen looks pretty nice too, blacks aren't as good as my AMOLED incredible, but aside from that it looks good to my eyes.
Its a decent enough looking phone an all im just not sure what im gonna do i may just sell the inc2 and keep the x (my backup phone) even though im not a big fan of the droid x ill see after i get cm7 on it...

Ill trade you for my 3 month old dinc ; )
It seems that the DInc2 is better than the DInc... except I prefer amoled over super LCD... but that's the only downfall really...
But is it definite that Asurion will give out DInc2 instead of the DInc? Cause... maybe my phone will break all of a sudden...

Does Asurion replace phones that aren't completely dead but have other issues? My phone is rebooting and shutting down on its own, at random.

No it doesn't matter, that is what Assurion is for, they handle replacements that are not covered by your warranty. So if you brick your phone and can recover it, they replace it after you pay your deductible.
Good to know, wasn't sure to what extent they would cover. Thank you
There's a new deductible isn't there? Any idea what it is now? I cracked the glass around the side of my phone the first week, and have been babying it for the last year. The touch screen is now having issues, but I'm just not sure i want to part with my phone.

Ok guys, weird question...my screen is totally scratched up, no idea how it happened, but I am really pissed off about it. Anyway, I have the best buy extra insurance (Black tie?). I want to brick my DX so they can give me a new one. ****ed up I know, but I am paying for it, so I might as well take advantage. How do i do, or what is the best way to make it irrecoverable?
If you bought the accidental plan, just drop in in a puddle. I told them i was gonna hack it when i bought it and they said no problem but if anything happens and I have to bring it in, I better make sure it doesnt power on at all.
Best solution, pop it in the microwave for a couple seconds. It will nit power on after that.

Hes turning in the phone, so they are able to repair it and give it to the next person that breaks their phone. This saves us cost, because the other alternative is him reporting it lost and just keeping it.
You could always do the OTA then sbf 2.1. done brick. and you dont have to break anything, and now best buy and asurion will lower our insurance costs! jk

Why does everybody worry about taking their phones in for repair if they are rooted? As long as what you want to get fixed isn't software related they don't care. I am rooted and running Fresh with Riptide's theme and took my phone in last month for a screen replacement and yesterday to replace a broken plastic cover over the camera lens. Nothing was said the first time for the screen, and yesterday I was asked how I was getting the great battery life I was getting so I told them it was due to the custom ROM and kernel. They were impressed. And, yes both repairs were free because I have Total Equipment Protection.

I had my screen crack fixed by Sprint. I simply flashed Joey Krim's stock looking rooted 2.2 and they didn't ask a question.

Just make a nandroid of your phone. I put my OEM SD card back in the phone and kept my good SD card with me. They fixed my screen, no questions asked. However, when they accidentally broke my volume down button on the side (need that one!) they just gave me a new phone. Nothing but good things about Sprints service.
I Had a beautiful Rooted G2 that fell off my desk and screen quit working... Now I was sent a new G2 (Insurance pays) and I tried rooting... Well Visionary is a No Go, Rage.. No go, and no matter what I tried its not working... Any suggestions?? When using Visionary it hangs and thats it.. Rage just hangs.. And rebooting DOES NOT MATTER they just hang... I put in a different Hboot nothing, tried a PC10 .zip Wrong reboot.... Any suggestions?? I cant have all this freakin eat your battery Bloatware. It pisses me off and would love my custom rom back on. Again any suggestions PLEASE???

I guess there's no downgrade hack for the G2 like these is for the Bell Mobility DZ? If not, then perhaps you can sell your LNIB G2, buy a secondhand DZ, root it, and have money left over. I paid $200 for an unlocked DZ in excellent condition from a local eBay seller, which is a heck of a lot better than the $500 the carriers want off-contract.

Lol oh no no. nobody would get my money 'til i had a rooted phone. That trade bit sounds interesting though. Even if I bought my phone off craigslist and am on a non-data family plan? They might be biased against me lol
If you bought your phone off Craiglist it will show up in Tmo's "Device Model Warranty Tool" as "Warranty not verified." (Unless the phone had never been used before, then it should appear as a new device.) Unfortunately, that status will make it impossible for you to exchange your phone through Tmo, you may still be able to get support from HTC depending on the age of your device.
If you have the PHP insurance/warranty it's another matter, then you should be able to exchange the phone regardless of its age or origin.
(I'm a former Tmo rep btw)
The php insurance is nice. I've replaced a few phones, I just hate how Asurion verifies their authorized account users. They never see me as an auth. user!!
A few years back, it was no problem, but now they seem to be much more strick or something...
Sry bout my rant lol... maybe you can get an independent insurance plan and go from there
Goodluck.

So after all this time using an EVO since ship date, Sprint and HTC blew it with this gb update. Getting a comparable device without losing my upgrade, was a huge plus for me to move on to this.
It wasn't the of root. It was the lack of testing, and caring about the users of this phone, the 30 second update that went on while I slept, the 2 replacements that randomly revolted every 3+hrs just everything I hope the ns4g is better.
Must say, its been a great run.
My wife has had 2 replacement evos in the past month due to broken usb port. I wish at this point they'd just offer a nexus

Are you using a stock Evo? If so, call and ask if they'll upgrade you. I don't think they're reading this and cross-referencing your username to your account.
When you call for a replacement, state that you are not physically able to make it to a sprint repair center: wheelchair bound, etc, whatever your excuse may be, as wrong as that seems, it's the only way to get them to MAIL the replacement to you, express that you've had the device replaced 1+ times, and that you spoke to a manager who told you, you were eligible for a like or comparable replacement, they will offer you the evo shift, ns4g, and all the other low-end devices.
This is up to you form here on.

They are so lame to make us go into the stores anyway. It's very annoying. however on my side... I've been lucky. never once have had an issue. my last phone I even changed out my own touch screen. :-D then when I got my evo. I got a hammer and killed my last phone. hahahha
haha, I wish. I've had nothing but issues out of my evo
I got some pretty bad light leaks under the home, back, and search buttons to where it looks like the metal around the bottom of the phone is white. I have heard you can get a replacement for light leakage but does or would this qualify?
who cares what this says anyways
sounds like some here have the new phone itch.. after the new phones come out all kinds of defects are found on our current phones..
ha ha.. I suffer from it..
Just tell them your phone randomly reboots lol.
Good luck with the Nexus. I have had two and sold them both. (traaded in my OG Evo.) The Nexus phones have all kinds of issues, including miserable battery life, bad radios causing dropped calls, taking 6 hours to charge the battery, flimsy plastic construction, etc.
I ended up with an Evo 3D, and so far, so good. It's nice to have a fast phone with a large screen, but somewhat more narrow than the original Evo.
Go to the Sprint site and see the Nexus user reviews vs. either of the Evos. It's no contest.
Good luck.
Thanks, and I always have 2 more evo's lol.

If the EVO gets root I would keep it but with all the rumors going around that it won't or it maybe October or never I don't want to wait 2 years to get a phone I can root.

The dis-assembly went rather smoothly. When I was kind of finangling to get the new digitizer on, I noticed that the actual strip had become lose. I believe this may have been caused by the heat of my hand - or perhaps it was fault to begin with.
Now looking at the circuitry and the ribbon itself, it doesn't seem like anything is broken. Would there be any way for me to adhere the ribbon back on properly in order to make my digitizer work again? I don't really have the money to shell out for a brand new one and this is a bit of a pain in the butt.
Thanks in advance.

I think it may be a fault in the replacement you ordered and should request a new one. The "heat" from your hand couldnt have done that, and if it did, that would have happened anyway because the internals of the phone would get much hotter

I'm fairly sure it was quite loose right when I took it out of the package. It pretty much slipped off kind of like a soapy sticker. This can't be right, can it?

Perfect. The part definitely seemed strange from the get-go. The company offered me 10% off, which I don't really feel is fair if the part is actually defective.
I've linked them to this thread, so if some more people could chime in that would be absolutely great.
So the part is defective and they wont replace it free?
Nice business model. Sounds shady.

Yeah it defiantly must be dodgy as I have broken my screen and fitted a new digiziter and it has functioned flawlessly. No damage whatsoever during installation, you should defiantly get a refund

Threaten to get BBB involved. That's the only way I got repair universe to send me a replacement after many emails about the matter. The digitizer they sent me had the ribbon cut nearly in half. Gave me the run around about how their stuff is fully tested before leaving the site and if I could take a picture. I told them all I wanted was my digitizer and if they couldn't honor their return policy I would call BBB and report. I was given the RMA the next email.

It's sad it has to boil down to that though.
Hopefully, though, intervention will either get you your money back or a replacement.

I agree, but like you said. When you are dealing with an internet company with no supposed phone support, sometimes that's what needs to be done. Although I did eventually find a phone number for them, I didn't need to use it before they finally made it right.
