"... four new Windows Phone 7 handsets running Mango. Acer and ZTE both have models on tap, as does Fujitsu -- which slathered its mobile in pink and gave it a waterproof seal.
The biggest news though was Samsung. Microsoft pulled out what is believed to be the SGH-i937, a version of the Galaxy S II that sports the Redmond mobile OS instead of Android."

Guess Windows Phone and Samsung fans have a reason to be happy. Looking forward to see the specs of that Samsung, even though i'm not passionate about Windows Phones.

For hesitant people like you (and me), someone will cook up a dual boot ROM with Mango and Android 2.3.4
There was a time I only wanted to stay with windows phones, since I was used to the way windows mobile 6.1 worked on my artemis and diamond, and figured windows OS would be easiest to co-exist with my PC for file transfers, syncing and general compatibility.
So I almost bought the Omnia 7. I'm so glad I delayed my upgrade and took the plunge with android on the SGS2. Android is excellent and I have no desire now to use windows phones anymore. Not for the time being anyway, and the whole tiles thing with the new WP7 doesn't appeal to me.
I hated the old windows phones. Slow, lag, so many menus to search through. But I played a little with a windows 7 phone, and I liked it allot. It still has a bit more tweaking to do, but I wish my Evo 3d scrolled as smooth as windows 7. Fast and easy to use. Looks really well done. It is something I will keep my eye on in the future.
Would this open doors for having a WP7 mango running on our beloved SGSII? I am loving the whole metro ui, and simulated a lot with different apps now, but it is not the same. I prefer having two OSes on my mobile instead of having 2 phones. Willing to help DEVS taking on this project
Cheerios
I did try WP7 on my HD2 when it first became available, but wasn't impressed. It looked like it had promise but just wasn't delivering at the time. I'd like to see where it's gone now, nearly a year later, so I'd be very interested in trying this out. I'm just not going to hold my breath while waiting for this to ever become available on the S2.
Neither am I, chances are that the more expensive option will be the only one. I keep reading that there is a difference in BT profiles, but I am uncertain that this is a constraint or not?

I really doubt that is Windows 7 (unrelated : isn't it weird how the desktop version and the mobile version now have the same name? )
And after reading the comments on the other thread I seriously doubt that wm7 will be released this year:
1) they're still working on wm6.5
2) releasing wm7 so close after wm6.5 would be ummm....counterproductive?
Until we find something on the internet really identifying it as WM7, I'm a skeptic.
microsoft has already said that wm7 wont be out till next year (prob march/april) its only developers that get it in november i think
Yes, actually that does look like WM7. A while ago a large number of concept screen shots came out. The credibility of those screen shot and the story behind it could be debated. But IMO sure evidence came in the form that in a MS live mesh commercial there was a brief shot of an HTC touch running the exact UI that was leaked. This looks like that interface with a few tweaks/improvements. I am trying to find that original story.
*edit* not the story I was talking about but all the shots were like this one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/blinx_182/3265548956/
*edit 2*
The first two pics are from the live mesh commercial. Note, WM7 is not really running on his device. They are screen shots. I was fooled at first. lol.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/blinx_182/
Here it is. The full story. Not the original site I saw it on but looks like the same pictures and text.
http://www.zakeh.com/2008/01/07/windows-mobile-7-details-leak-cool/
That UI was found on a WM device in a MS commercial. Evidence enough to me that at least at some point this is the direction MS was going. And I like it.
I think wm7 will change alot over the next year as they get feedback and see what every one else does.
This might be early code but still about 6 months till developers get it then another 5 months of changing as they get feedback from developer
My guess is no. Hell no.
It looks a bit crap, not to mention VGA (why would MS be developing a 2010 mobile OS in VGA?). I'm very sceptical.

Hello everyone,
There are many phones in the market now. There are some cheap once also.
I have spend roughly 600 USD to buy this piece.
The reason i brought this phone, i was fed up of [email protected] the previous phone i had just fell apart with in first 6 months of usage...i had paid almost eqal amount for a phone.
I was looking for smothing sturdy, easy to use and versatile phone. After 2 months of usage i think i am happy with it.
I would be happy if you all also share your experience.
Regards,
Geo
I bought mine because my BA is 5 years old, and I didn't have much to spend on a phone, so I ended up getting the TD2 on att because it was cheaper than any unlocked phone.
I got mine because the design of the topaz is so nice to hold on to , perfect size in term of a cell phone, plus the window mobile allow so much mod and tweak plus apps to the system, just like a pc, thats why I choose a wm phone. iphones are for dump people that they think it looks cool but dont know anything about os tweak and command lines but just know how to touch those little square buttons. wm are for professionals.
I've made a thread like this already, please use search..
HTC gain has a loyal and delighted customer
I bought my Topaz after several months using my Touch Cruise.
Its only problem is its steel carcase. Accidentally, I dropped my topaz and now the phone has very nasty scratches on one of its side. Lesson learned: Buy a silicone case to protect it!
By the way... I became such a happy customer because of XDA-Developers. I tested almost all the Roms posted there!!!

Agree with all of that. Had to be HTC for build quality and support (here though, not from HTC), had to be WM for sheer power and registry hackability, and the Topaz was the perfect size vs screen size compromise for me. And it looks cool, to my 1970's tastes at least

I don't think the iPhone comes anywhere near, in OS terms at least. Hardware's quite nice though...

Hey all,
I finally got rid of my HD7 after constant struggles with the device.
I guess my question is simple: So what are your guys' impressions and thoughts on the DVP? I ordered it today and should be expecting it on Monday. I've been reading reviews and stuff all day long, but wanted some firsthand thoughts on this device.
Thanks.
Constant Strugles with the DVP. It is a new OS that needs to be updated. So I dont think it matters which WP7 device you get there will always be struggles till the bugs are worked out.
honestly? I wish it ran Android LOL. This OS is still very new and apps aren't as plentiful as Android or iOS. I feel like we're the guinea pigs. The OS is cool but I just dont feel its as practical as Android. My biggest concern is all you have is two screens, the home screen with all your tiles and the screen with all your apps. I feel that when it gets to that point where you have tons of apps on your phone its gonna be a pain to look for specific apps. Also, I hope Dell releases an update that allows me to take advantage of the keyboard. For example with WebOS (Palm Pre) I could type somebodys name from the home screen and his/her contact information will pop up, I can type something such as "Mu.." and the Music app will pop up. With me and phones, its all about being efficient, yes I want a pretty OS (which windows phone 7 is) but I want to be able to do things with a quickness and I feel that WP7 falls short on this with certain things.
I like the calendar and music on this OS, web browser is good but could be better. The dedicated camera button is awesome (I think all wp7 phones have this) The games are pretty cool; I haven't gone through all the apps but really simple apps such as notes or timer cost money(stuff life this is typically free on Android)
I like this a hell of a lot more than the iphone4, I returned my iPhone about a week after I bought it, I guess the biggest advantage to this phone is the physical keyboard, the last phone that I remember that was similar to this was the Samsung IP830

Personally I love the OS and android feels very unpolished to me by comparison but it depends on the manufacturer's implementation (I don't like most of them).
The DVP on the other hand would almost be the perfect phone for me if a) the camera actually worked and b) if we could actually unlock it.
My review is the 3 star review on the Dell site with the blurry pictures
The camera is a bit blurry (slower shutter speed) but usable. It can be fixed in an update.
WP7 is still very, very young and CLOSED, and thats the biggest detriment. There's so many things I miss, coming from the Touch Pro 2 (And I had the i730 as posted above AND the i760) and Palm Pre.
It needs a change of radio.
Updates are a little slow coming from MS to fix these things too.
After a couple upgrades, I can see this being an amazing phone. Right now, it's merely just a great phone
Thanks for the thoughts guys.
One of the reasons why I got rid of the HD7 was because of the shoddy build quality. Otherwise, I think WP7 is great, and can only get better from here on out. I hear that the build quality of the DVP is outstanding.

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/.../2012/02/17/redesigning-the-windows-logo.aspx
Officially confirmed and it's final.
I threw up. I'm really disappointed
What do you think guys?
I am disappointed too.
This logo isn´t really Metro style nor Windows
I think a combination of the WP7 Logo and the Windows 8 text would be the best idea to combine Metro and the classic windows logo...
Horrible. I hate it. Windows 7 logo was 10x better.
Not really
I actually think it's fine..
I mean, yeah, it's not the best piece of art, but it is simple, and good enough!
I would've liked it better if it was colored but o well!
It reminds me of the graphics from Rainbow in the 1970s. "Today we're looking through the SQUARE" window!
Please let M$ replace clippy with Zippy and George!

Reminds me of this..
The new windows logo is horrible, I hope maybe microsoft think about this more.
I hear all this *****ing about it, but I want to know what exactly is so bad about it? You think Win 7's logo is better? Gradients and gloss?? Ok Apple..
Read up on the blog about some of the thought that went into the new logo.
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/.../2012/02/17/redesigning-the-windows-logo.aspx
I don't hate the logo. I rather like it in a Retro BBC circa 1980s kind of way. It evokes memories of teleprinters, ceefax, Blake's 7 and having a massive crush on Servolan.
Sent from my ICS GT-I9000 using xda premium
I do not like it at all, seems to myspace
already told the forum mod about the new logo, he's looking into changing it.
and IMHO, i think this is stripping the last of MS's brand identity away from all non-geek consumers. and lets face it, if you're on this site, you're a geek.

agreed !
simple explaination : It’s a window… not a flag

I just wish it were flat, rather than angled. Also get rid of the TM. Its tacky!
Is that true? Yes, why only have one color.? I fell it suit for windows tablet.
I think personally, if this is really the Logo of the new Windows Version, Windows is going down in a slow way but it is going down !

i am with you ! such a ugly logo
my little sister is even better in designing
I like it, but ultimately its just a logo. Wont affect how my pc runs so doesnt really make that much difference.
i don't have any idea what the hell is that :yaoming:
this fully sums up my feelings for the new logo:
Would be much better for some old Windows 95 or 98
So Guys ans Girls,
Let start the Visual Thread about Ubuntu Touch OS

Visual
Very good visual, cant wait to see it running on my device. :good:
And this Visual Design has a name : Suru ! welcome Suru
but let have a deep look, the phone picture is not the Galaxy Nexus as it used to be.
A hint to the new Hardware ?
Hardware
Maybe the Ubuntu phone to be released in autumn.
looks really great, calendar is a bit weird but whatever
i dont know why but that device looks like a Huawei to me
the os looks great, hopefully it performs well and gets the attention it deserves. though, in this market, that really depends on how many developers embrace the os and get the apps developed so it at least has a chance to succeed. allowing ios and android to get so big really causes problems for any newcomers due to the fact that there are already thousands of apps for both platforms which are now relatively stable, bug-free and full of features, and no one nowadays wants a phone which doesn't have stable, fast apps for everything they want to do.
i think the ubuntu devs definitely got the design right, tho -- the design reminds me of something you'd see in android, but with a lot of the...ideas and practicality that lay behind windows phone, which imo is a better platform than either ios or android for a phone but unfortunately doesn't have the community and therefore the developers/apps to compete.
would definitely be great to see this platform take off so we have another big competitor in the mix!

Don't get your hopes up. The pictures above are nothing more than digital concepts, it's just an artist's impression of what a "new" ubuntu-related generic smartphone would look like.
