I am looking for anyone who lives in Ottawa. I am currently lazy and un-sure about many of the processes with just about everything. I usually mess up a step or 2.
Wondering if anyone on this site is living in Ottawa and is willing to help me out in person, need to re-do my HTC Desire, and then work on my XOOM.
Thanks.

May not be the place to post this but I am sure it will be moved if not the correct place.
I am completely new to smart phones and just got my Titan.
A friend of mine has the Tilt (I am unfamiliar with the industry name) and after watching what he has set up on his I was ready to take the plunge.
So far I am very frustrated with the phone. I see the possibilities but I have not gotten into the meat of this device as of yet and he recommended this site... so... here I am ..
With all that being said.. I am pretty savvy on these type of things and I wanted to know what would you all consider to be mandatory downloads to this phone.
I realize that this is usually up to the individual but I would like suggestions on what the best initial programs are and why.
Also, I was told that this phone is not compatible with Garmin and Tom Tom GPS and does not do Sprint TV. If this is true, I am going to be upset as that is one of the main reasons I got this device.
After viewing the forums briefly I notice that there is discussions of Sprint TV and other things about GPS so I am sure it is just a lack of knowledge on my part.
My friend also said that he does not mess with ROM's as they can "brick" your phone. I might be interested in those in the future but not too sure about them now.
Thanks for reading and hope to see your suggestions soon.
you will have to flash your phone to unlock the internal gps.
i know for a fact that people around here are using tom tom and sprint TV on there titans, not sure about garmin, but the titan should be able to run pretty much all the apps hes running.
exept the tilt is a more powerful phone i believe, so his would do it faster.
Thanks for the response..
Is there a particular string on how and where to do this?..

Welcome!!!
Follow the link below. Have fun!
hey guys, first post here.
i recently got a hd over ebay. it's the telstra model and is unlocked.
however, i am using a vodafone prepaid sim and can't seem to find anything on how i can get the internet (not WiFi) setup.
i could go on a plan to make things easier, but i dont need the net much, just to quickly check emails then disconnect.
when i check the settings for connections there is a telstra connection there saying it can't be modified.
could someone please just lay out some simple instructions as to how i can get the net running using a vodafone prepaid sim?
Its a big call for a new user but you can ditch Telstra by upgrading to a new ROM. It might sound a little drastic but you more than likely end up doing it sooner or later anyway as the cook roms are way better than the official ROM. I've never used it but I heard a lot of bad things about the telstra one. Some things are locked and such? Anyway have a look in the next forum down for a guide by Crackwhore. Make it seem like a big deal but he has covered all the angles. Anyway I'm sure someone will come along with another answer that doesn't require this pretty soon.
ywh, i may have to do that.
but is there anyone else that may have a simpler fix for now?
i dont exactly want to put a new rom on for now until i can weed out a few other things.
that aside, which roms would you all recommend? for ease of use, functionality and also aesthetically pleasing?
You might have a lot better chance posting this on this thread at Whirlpool

A lot of Australian HD users here. They can't seem to shut up about the differences between the two models and their bands. Also a lot of helpful people too. You biggest problem is you have the NextG version which you are trying to connect to 3G. I'm not saying it can't be done but I don't know so anything I offered would only be guessing. They people at whirlpool will know all about roaming/bands/connection settings for Australian Phone networks.
Does anyone know if the Moto xoom will be flashable to boost mobile or metro or cricket like how the samsung tab is
Great question. I don't know the answer but the question is can any Verizon 3G work on Sprint/Metro(same company). You don't want Cricket. My quick look makes me think the odd's aren't great. But I think the EVO was fully ported to MetroPCS.. so maybe.
I don't think a verizon phone can work on sprint and vice versa. If metro works on sprints networks then a sprint phone could be flashed to work on it. It has to do with the wireless technology in the device. Plus, even if it was the same, I doubt sprint would activate it.
Sent from my EVO using XDA App
I doubt it honestly
My research showed that in some markets Metro has a program in place for reprogramming Sprint and Verizon phones for use on their network. However, I suspect they won't do it for a product like the XOOM.
I hope that someone figures it out. I am partially hopeful, I just bought a 11,000mAh battery for my EVO so that I can tether for hours at a time. Testing it right now with everything turned on, streaming tversity video to the phone for hours and barely drained the external 30%.
I'm honestly fairly ignorant on the matter so if I sound stupid give me a pass..
But..
If the hardware could do it, isn't it 'just' a matter of which 'radio firmware' is being used? (with regards to porting to a different carrier)
Motorola Xoom
Hey everyone, hows it going. First I would like to thank everyone here for all your hard work on these new android devices and helping people like me figure out problems to how to get these devices working.
I just got back from the store where I picked up the new motorola xoom. I've noticed that its on verizons service, but would like to know if anyone can point me to the proper direction as to how I can get this device working on crickets network.
I have a droid x, droid 3 all working on cricket data, mms and all working. next task is to get this xoom working on crickets data... any idea's as to where I can start off...
I'm not finding any informaiton about this device at all for flashing. I found someone who claims that they can root there xoom, ... its a start, but not really wanting to do that without consulting the professionals first.
please note that this is not my first go around with custom roms or rooted gingerbread roms. also please note that I'm aware this rom is the hunnycomb rom.
any help is much appreciated .... sorry about the spelling and thanks for all your help in advanced.

If by the new Xoom you mean the XYboard, it is not yet rootable. The original Xoom is rootable and has a number of awesome roms and overclocking kernels. Take a look around the forum and you will see many wonderful things. I'm sorry that I can't help you with getting your Xoom to run on the cricket network...

Well, don't tell me you don't have any experience with reportable awesome rooms...
Autocorrect is my friend.

So seeing as how I got this tablet rooted.... lets see if I can get it working with data, .... any help is appreciated
Hey guys and gals of XDA, I'm new. My name is Brandon, I have an LG G2. And I have some problems. My first problem is I have a D803. (canadian)
I will tell you guys in short what I want and would appreciate it GREATLY if ya'll could help me out.
1 ) Acquire noob guide to CustomROMing, recovering, and all that gibber gabber. I rooted my phone because it was extremely easy and debloated it using Titanium backup already. I literally have NO idea what i'm doing, I've tried to read through guides but I always get stumped considering i'm using a d803 and the backup program thing didn't recognize my phone.I'm not asking ya'll to sit here and pour all your knowledge to me, just a link would be cool. Although if someone wants to do that it'd be appreciated.
2 ) I want a Nexus5. But I want my G2, physically. lol. long story short I love the stock google feel of a nexus5, I've tried launchers but I can't find any ones that have transparent bars. So, instead i've stolen the nexus background and emulated the look as much as I can. I'm having a hard time finding any support for the d803 that has the Nexus 5 look , Hoping ya'll can help me on that. I found a Paranoid Android one but I don't know how to actually get it onto my device so I gave up.
3 ) More of a question; If I succeed in custom rom'ing my phone, do I lose all 'normal' G2 functions? As in Quickmemo, Slide aside, Knock on, etc? Quickmemo is extremely important for me as a tech salesman being able to write down SKUs real quick and not all over my hands is awesome. But I would be willing to part with it. Knockon, not so much.
More info that may or may not be relevant:
>D803
>Debloated using titanium backup
>Rooted
>32gb black
>access to a computer
So, in closing, I guess i'll sum this post up in a word. Sorry. I seen the intro video to XDA and about how im the devil if I ask a question that's been asked before, and I know this probably has. But it doesn't have the info i'm looking for. Anyone who can just throw me some links in one consolidated place so I have a set starting point, information and a goal, gets a gold star from me.
Thank you for listening to me. Appreciate any and all help in advance.

^^ I've noticed the 4.4 roms are advancing at a nice pace for the G2, give it some time.. I tried some of the earlier 4.4 builds that I couldn't deal with the instability, but I've been running one of the later ones for the last week with very very few issues, so the best of both worlds is hopefully, rapidly approaching.
Alright so I had been using a Note1 for a little over three years, I'm in Canada and just upgraded to a Note 4. SM-N910W8 v4.4.4 currently. I haven't done much with it since I got it a week or so ago. I'm really unimpressed with some of the stock stuff that I can't get rid of and so I'm wanting to root it. One of the things I want to get rid of is the Facebook app because I don't like how many permissions it requires. I can't actually remove it from the phone, only disable it etc...
Anyways I'm wondering what else I can get from the Note4, I'm really unfamiliar with Roms but I think I get the basic concept. Anyone willing to explain it to me with the notion that I'm pretty much a complete noob?

If like You're saying, You are a noob, better stick with the stock rom. Besides, read the forum and You'll see what You can get
To get rid of stock apps You need root (CF-Auto root to find in this forum) and (my preferred way) Titanim Backup, from where You can uninstall whatever You wish.
Well I'm a noob to this stuff, but I feel like I'm fairly good with technology in general.
If I was looking for a light weight and easier to get into rom, do you have any suggestions?
