[Q] Advent Vega or Archos 101 8GB?

Hi Guys,
Im trying to decide between the Advent Vega and the Archos 101 8GB?
They both seem to be a good deal for the price.
Im happy with wireless \ Capacitive screens
The Advent has a better CPU, but less memory and is nearly twice the weight.
Im primarily going to be watching videos and using it as an ereader.
Is there anything else I should take into account?
Which is the better of the two?
Thanks
I seriously doubt that the Archos will ever get Honeycomb on it, but the Vega it is a good possibility. That's an easy dealbreaker for me.
Other than that, the Vega bloody rocks...
Vega!
Hi there,
I've tested both of them and the same time and decided to keep the Vega.
The Archos looks finer, but the framed display collects dirt in the corners.
It's not so heavy and has a bigger accu.
The viewing angles are the same (bad, but I can live with that).
My reasons to keep the Vega:
- 1GB DualCore Tegra2 CPU (Archos: SingleCore 1GHz)
- 512MB internal (!!) Memory (Archos: 256MB, the 8GB is external like a sd-card)
- 1080p Playback (Archos: 720p)
- HDMI Out (Archos: Mini-HDMI -> Adpater needed)
- and it's much more fun to use it because it's all smooth, no matter how many applications are running. The Archos becomes laggy when google maps, market, browser are running at the same time.
- And the Vega is highly customizable (custom roms etc.).
But the main disadvantage is the Archos big advantage: accessing NTFS is (by now) not possible with the Vega. On the Archos, just plug in an usb external harddisk with ntfs and it works. But I think it's just a matter of time to get it on the Vega...
Dino
Hope, I could help you a little bit...
Where to buy so, if I dont live in UK? (EU area btw)
Hi,
sethman search for the Point of View Mobii Tegra
It's worthy to remark that at least in Spain, the Advent Vega is cheaper than the POV Mobii (both are sold in stores).

Vega vs hp touchpad.

Hey guys.
Got a chance to buy an hp for £180. Would you say it was better than the vega? At the moment running vega comb I must admit I'm loving my vega! What are your thought please?
in harvey norman in australia they just cleared all the hp as they will no longer carry it in australia.. they all sold for 98 for 16g and 148 for 32g, my friend got one and i got the viewsonic and i have now vegacomb 8.1 on it and showed my friend and he was jealous and loved the viewsonic/vega .. he said that the viewsonic was better then his hp.. after using it on 3.2 build 8.1
Cheers mate, after much humming and hmmmming, gonna keep the vega!
an extra question for ram issue.
512ram enough for a tablet?
Depends on what you do on a tablet.
If you do:
- browsing the internet
- playing music / videos
- e-mail
- playing games
then 512MB RAM is enough.
But if you hog your phone/tablet with background processes and all kinds of widgets, custom launchers, keyboards then you will have some serious RAM shortage.
For most stuff you do, 512MB RAM is more than enough!

$100 7" ICS Tablet with multi-touch, 512MB RAM, 8GB storage, USB, HDMI, etc....

Wow, can't beat this deal!!!

Is 512MB RAM enough for ICS? My brother is looking for a cheap e-reader, I might ask him to look at this if it is good enough..

Ya 512 is fine runs fine on phones with that much atleast
I actually ordered one (couldn't resist) - should have it in 4-6 days - I'll report my thoughts on it.

dont blame you, it looks really smart
I had to order one too, My transformer has been stepped on a couple times and glitches out a lot, I've been using it as a receiver with my baby monitor but its unreliable. Hopefully this little guy works out.. thanks for the link btw thats a really good deal for an ICS tablet.
They also have white models on that site too, in case you want a white tablet...
Also - I heard that both colors sell out very fast though (just came back in stock), so if you want one, better grab it quick!

Did you see
Display Technology LCD
Max Resolution 800x480
No GPS
I did see that - not an issue for me - don't use or need GPS at all. And for a 7" tablet, 800x480 is fine with me (I have a few 7" tablets at that resolution as they are fine).
Geez, what do you want for $110?!?!?
Eww, 480x800 is ****ty on a 7" screen...
I'll pass on this... especially with a nexus tablet coming soon for only $40 more and it supposedly has twice the memory, twice the cores, newer architecture CPU, and 1280x800 resolution.

512k is ok for ics but it will be a little slow. My other tablet is an Archos 80 G9 16GB Turbo with 512kb and it cab struggle a little. As long as you keep your multitasking to a minimum, and dont have too many widgets on home screen, it should be ok.

MY wife also has the Archos 80 G9 Turbo and it has no issues at all with ICS. I don't think she even understands the concept of multi-tasking and I deleted most widgets since she has no use for them anyways.
I own a Novo 7 Basic with basically the same features (except it runs MIPS), and ICS is quite a lot slower with 512MB RAM compared to 1024MB. Its really noticable.
If it was me, Id rather buy an Ainol ELF (or Auroa, hard to get though). 1024x600 res compared to 800x480...
I dont know the price in US$, but they arent much more expensive than the one OP linked.
Of course, if youre in need of 3G, the one in OP is better.
ICS with that music player and keyboard?
Doubt it, but we'll see once they're shipped.

512 on a phone isn't the same as on a tablet.. (the size makes a difference in processing power right?)

No the size does not the resolution does. and considering the res is 480x800 which is the same as the original galaxy s i do not think it will be a problem
If anyone is wondering, this Hyundai brand is NOT the same Korean company that makes cars and electronics. It's a Chinese knock off.

It could be the MIPS cpu... ICS seems relatively snappy on the Kindle Fire which has only 512MB but also a much faster cpu.

[Question] Gaming in Moto G4 Plus

Hello everyone! I used to play in my old LG 2 Mini games like Tomb Raider 1 and Tomb Raider 2. The game in some places, more open areas had a few frames drops. That was only with full details settings. In the middle details this no longer happened, run at full speed. I bought the Moto G4 Plus, thought it would have a better performance, but it turned out to be worse than a 2014 device (in my country) with 1GB of Ram and a Quad-Core processor. I really can not understand ... It is only my device or does anyone else have this problem?

Have a look at here for benchmarks https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/rom-benchmarks-t3575807 You can play heavy games for sure, some people do it,but you can compare the specs of your phone with others and see that the cpu isn't that suitable then others. It's not a high end device. Keep this in mind!
Yes, I know it's not a hi-end device and is not the best for gaming, but ... a 2014 device with a lower hardware could do better ... anyway I did a benchmark on AnTuTu v6. 2.7 and my score was 43620 running on LineageOS 14.1-20170918, stock kernel. I really do not take seriously benchmark results, I'd rather use it to prove it. This one goes to my mother, I'm going to change my smartphone, going back to LG .... Thanks!
