[Q] Will there be a SD version of WM7? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

As in title is there going to be any sd versions cooked up?
Thank you

I doubt it...it doesnt seem to be possible as wp7 uses its own format for storage.

Ok thank you.

Also, just to add, there is no such thing as WM7.

[Q] WP7 with SD Card installation like Android etc?

Hi there,
I was wondering if it would be possible in the near future to have WP7 running of an SD card like with Android. Because now I've finally found a near to perfect Android build (SuperRAM by darkstone) because my battery life is even better than on WM! I would like to have the option to still choose this one as my daily driver, but I would really love to have a go with WP7. It would be great to have an Android build, WP7 build and maybe a Meego build (in the future) all on the same SD card, with windows still running on NAND. I'm no real techie so I dunno if it is too much to ask, but I would really like to know my possibilities. Thanks in advance.
Same here. I think il always want wm 6.5 as a default os. Theres no way im flashing wp7 until its run off sd card or ram. I really want an answer on this. Triple boot!
hd2 wm6.5 android and wm7 all in one?
so right now i have the wm6.5 as my main os and have android to use when ever i need or want to show it off. after iam done i shut down android and turn the phone on again and wm6.5 reloads. can i do that with wm7? i want to keep wm6.5 the way i have it now and be able to load android or wm7 when ever i want and the go back to wm6.5. is that possible? THIS WAS A POST I MADE ON ANOTHER THREAD. I HERE WOULD LIKE TO KNOWIF THIS IS POSSIBLE
I want the exact same thing. But after doing a bit of reading it looks unlikely at the moment. Its nand only. I guess we can just pray there will be a sd ram version in the works
it can be done its been posted on here somewhere but its a very long winded process.
search for a dual boot.thinking of doing this myself
just a hypothesis, but since wp7 formats the sd card when it is fllashed, and then acts as if it is internaal storage, even if you could boot wp7 from an sd card, you would need another one to use as internal storage. if it was possible to partition the sd card and use one of the partitions to boot wp7 and the other for storage, you wouldn't have any data space for android (pics, songs etc.) So back to square one...
Exactly what I am looking for
WM6.5 main OS, with Android and/or WP7 running off SD Card.

Windows Phone 7 from SD card or Android/ WP7 Hybrid ROM?

I was wondering if it would be possible to either Boot Windows Phone 7 through MAGLDR from the SD Card like you can Android by maybe partitioning the SD Card so it cn have it's own space?
Or a more realistic option which would be to have a NAND ROM that includes both Android and WP7 installed to the NAND and partition the SD card for storage? This second option I believe could be possible if the NAND is partitioned correctly to allow them both to run and then you could select them in the MAGLDR!
I would like some dev feedback on this as I would try building a ROM myself but I don't know the workings of the partitioning system in MAGLDR well enough to try!
Thanks in Advance for any help!

I've seen that but what I want is to boot Android and WP7 from NAND NOT run android from the SD Card like that guy done because that makes android run slow and I want android as my primary OS!

I run Android from SD as my primairy OS, WP7 is on NAND just to play with and test it. I tried Android on NAND, but to me it wasn't noticably faster then when running from SD.

Snap I'm using sd build of Android from magldr and it runs fine even boots ok, there might be a little lag when doing something the first time but other than that its great

Well the thing is I like to use a fully fledged Desire HD ROM and it's stupidly slow from the SD card... my current build is squashfs'd so only takes up about 200mb for the actual OS and I'm sure WP7 could be fitted in the rest of the space and like I'm doing now I can use EXT4 on the sd for data! Now what's needed is if someone can build a hybrid ROM!

Hi, anyone can share how to u do this ? is it through the method that uses 2 sd cards during the formatting stage ?
Btw, what if i dont mind swapping sd cards for diff os ? Can this be done and how ? I tried to insert another sd card which I previously use for my android sd build, tried the sd boot , it gave an error of sd kernel . anyone can advise ?
Thanks !!

Any idea when WP7 is going to be released on SD?

After looking around, most people are saying that WP7 is working very well with the HD2 and I'm really curious to try but I dont like the idea of Nand. Does anyone know how to install it without Nand or if it is going to be released for SD only soon?
Well seeing as how WP7 uses the sdcard as it's internal memory I don't see how having it on the sdcard would be possible. I think Nand is the only option from here on out.

I agree.... I don't think there will be a sd version of wp7. Cotulla is working on a sd version of wm6.5, though, so hopefully in the future we can have wp7 on nand and still run android and wm6.5 off sd.

[Q] Dev for ability to flash from SD card?

Hi guys, sorry if this is a dumb question but havent had my coffee yet.
Im just wondering if anybody knew of any development going on to be able to flash WP7 from SD crad via MAGLDR?
I think this owuld be a great addition.
I'm at work at the moment and was going to flash WP7 as im bored and realised I didnt bring my USB cable
Since WP7 format your SD during installation process, I think it's impossible ^^

Yeah, the way wp7 uses the sd card would make it very difficult to find a way to make it work.... there's probably a better chance of them figuring out a way to boot wp7 directly from SD (which given the fact that wp7 uses the sd as main memory anyways, performance would probably be the same with a good sd card if the figured out how to do this.... I would love to have android on NAND so I can use clockwork, but I don't want to give up the ability to boot wp7... especially after reading about the multitasking ability that is going to be added with an update... their doing multitasking like WebOS did it, with playing card looking screens that you can scroll through... it looks great)
Not really true.
WP7 only formats your card if it hasnt already been formatted. When ive been trying/testing dual boot in past, I had a pre-formatted WP7 card with WP7 partitions already on and after flashing it didnt format. Well unless im not remembering correctly and dreamt it.
So its probably just a matter of magldr support for it. Unless its a limitation of only been able to perform the partitioing via PC-DFT/USB-MAGLDR flasher.
I do agree though, the coming possibility of running WP7 from SD would be great. Its bit like when we first got Android (me back on Blackstone), ie have your secondary OS on card and primary on NAND. I slowly started to use Android more and more and then just started booting into it by default either manually or via bootloader, then eventually on NAND. I cant see myself getting rid of Android for WP7 any time soon but it would be cool to be able to play with it without having to resort to putting Android back on card.

You had indeed curious dreams...
Installed more than 10 times WP7 and always a SD format...on all roms...
Furthermore it's clearly stated in most of cooked roms and installation tutos topics

Fook knows then, Im sure I managed to use a pre-prepared card without it flashing it at some point, Ill have a go later and see if I can replicate what I did.
Anyway, this doesnt really make a difference because im sure somebody could come up with a modded version that bypasses SD format/check etc.
Will just have to wait and see.
IMO flashing without formatting would be awesome especially to avoid reinstalling apps and reconfigurating system everytime :/
Let's be patient...

[Q] does anyone have SD card version of wp7 for htc hd2?

hi,can someone tell does exist SD card version of windows phone 7 for htc hd2?
No..not as of right now. But anything is possible thru XDA. The developers here make thee impossible possible. Just be patient.
+1
Hope that will be soon
Lot of thinks are possible on XDA, but not WP7 bootable from SD card. There is zero chance that it will happen. Its technically impossible and there is no reason to try this, since current solution is much better.
Dont wait for it, because for 99,9% it will never happen.
Why?

WP7 on SD
I understand WP7 takes over the SD card to use as storage (partition of card needed to retain some for other access) - so I think very unlikely it can run from SD itself at the same time
