So im running eVil D:'s sense 3.0/3D glacier rom, and honestly, I really dont like the look of the built in messaging app. Could I like take the Messaging.apk and the messagingCS.apk files from the (lets say something like the droid x/or droid) and there data and put them in the system folder and delete the other ones? Or would that totally f*ck up my phone?
The other thing is, I dont want to download the clients (a.k.a chompSMS or goSMS) I hate the look of them..

You could theme the messaging app yourself by pulling the .PNG files from drawable-hdpi in the apps Res folder. But unless the Droid has the same native screen resolution and same libs etc it probably wouldn't work.

There's not really an app for this, and it's not a "smash 'n grab job" by any means. There are better probably more-detailed instructions lying around somewhere and you'll have to search for them, but you're basically looking at:
1. Pulling the apk files off your phone
2. Extracting said apk files
3. Altering the png files in the res/drawable folders
4. Repackaging it or otherwise making it possible to push the new files to your phone in place of the old ones
I personally find Go SMS has lots of customization options and suits me pretty good.

I tried that but it doesn't theme my dialer, which I thought was weird.
I made a request to get a dark theme added to XDA and was thinking that if enough people showed interest it might get the ball rolling. The purpose behind this is that a dark theme would improve our battery life as I'm sure all of you know how these screens work.
Before the peanut gallery chimes in, I have no interest in using the XDA app.
Well the premium app has a black theme, have you tried that?

Your in luck, this has already been done. I don't have the premium app, but I am using the dark theme. Just go into settings, it is there.
:facepalm
Forget I even said anything
edit: Just so nobody takes the above comment wrong: I DO NOT LIKE USING THE XDA APP. I want to add a dark theme to XDA's UserCP options.
I'm not sure why you would want to request a feature you wouldn't use, but more power too you..
I originally opened this thread because I was curious to know why someone would rather use the web broweser instead of the XDA app. So whats the pro/con?
I wanna a thanks button on this app

Where are you getting the idea that I wouldn't use it?
I just like the browser version better. I have it as a bookmark in my LP dock pop up which takes me directly to general or development. With the Miran browser I have other forums in different tabs so I can go back and forth between them easily. Its harder for me to navigate the app than it is to navigate the browser. Also when people reply using the app, 90% of the time it gets put in the quote box and and looks like and an empty post when in fact the reply is jumbled in with someone else's post (see post #4 as an example). The only benefit the app has to me is that the text is formatted a little better for legibility but that can be fixed in the browser by simply double tapping the page and zooming in.
This is how I'd like it to look like.
hi everyone,i'm looking for a way to have an iphone like grouping for apps
hope you ' ll help me
Use golauncher, this has that functionality and is super smooth
or use tw4
Use App Organizer
Any screenshots? I.m interested in grouping apps but app organiser never was particularly nice lookingand was a separate app, not a launcher.

Why screenshots? Just download from market. Just as quick.

+1 for golauncher. Its a very nice launcher replacement and it has a back up function so rebuilding after flashing is easier.
G
Use aplications folder!!
use GO Launcher Ex. It is a good launcher app. By the way you can manager your list as like as u want.
For people recommending apps organizer, there's a different app from the same developer called Folder Organizer. I've switched over from Apps Organizer (it has an import feature that's compatible with the export one from AO).
It has more features, it's nicer, detects when a new application is installed so you can assign labels right away, among other really nifty things.
IMO, blows the ridiculous iOS folders out of the water.
Simifolder is godlike. Just my opinion

Anyone else notice....it seperates the pictures all over the place inside the app. Anyway i can move them around into proper spots. Example, it has all my dled pics in three different downloaded folders...i just need one.
totally agree.
cant wait to root so i can get the stock ics gallery back
agreed! Looks cluttered and ugly. Are there any recommended apps to use in place of it?
I personally use tsf gallery widget, more cool! And fun!

On that note, does anybody else notice the images don't rotate when you select the View>Change screen orientation>By Orientation sensor... I only get rotation when I have the main rotation set in the OS
Quikpic is by far the best image app.

Quick pic doesn't plug into Picasa either.
I have tried to push several gallery apps and they all have the same look, I really hate the stock SG3 gallery app, what I would like is to have the same look as the gallery 3d version. I have tried quick pic, and its nice but I don't like the new look I really enjoyed the old 3d look. Anyone have any luck trying to get it installed, I can't get the gallery 3d apk to install. Thanks for the help
This thread delivers! Both of these recommendations are lightyears better than the included gallery. Thanks. Never really knew that I had such a problem with the gallery.
I have looked everywhere , where is the default lockscreen wallpaper located within the rom, like where is the default lockscreen dir. driving me nuts.
Thanks anyone.

Most of the time it is built into the rom into one of the apks. I cant remeber off hand but the default is usually compressed in the apk.

Once you decompile it, the wallpaper jpg's are in /res/drawable-sw359dp-xxhdpi
