Has anyone else run into this?
I've been using file expert to browse shares over the network. Since their last update, i have been unable to browse them. Other apps like androXplorer still browse the shares properly, but i cant stream media from the network using androxplorer.
I should mention that i am using shares in a domain environment and that file expert ran fine before.
Just curious to see if anyone else is having that problem.
I know domains are not common in homes and small offices, but I'm sure I can't be the only person who uses his Iconia in a domain environment.
If you do and don't use file expert, go ahead and install it, it's free.

I keep getting notifications that my Exec is picking up personal routers all over the town I live in and on my own network I have shared folders that people who were passing by could access.
But how do I see if one of these personal networks has folders and files being shared? On my own PC I just open my network places and can see all PC's on my own network that have folder sharing. So how do I do the same on my Exec? At the moment at home I need to know the name of the PC that I want to access but I already know the PC's names, but on someone elses network I wouldn't know this.
I thought Wififofum would have this sort of feature but it appears not.
Any ideas???

Okay, seems like Pocket Lan is what's required for this, It's designed for WM2003 so I don't know if it will work on WM2005, I will let you all know here once I have tried it.
Regards
I think Resco File Explorer is fit for the job too.
I have tried Resco File Explorer but from memory it seemed you still had to know the PC's name and then make a map to it, but I could be wrong?
Don't forget the legality of accessing someone else's network.

Hacking into people's PCs/files is likely to be viewed more seriously than "borrowing" a bit of Internet bandwidth.
If all you want to do is check your own shares and security, then something like this might fit the bill:-

Hi,
Found lots of interesting little programs for my Windows Mobile phone recently, but one thing I can't find.
I want to be able to access the files on my phone from the network, via wifi (as a normal file share). I know it can be done the other way around, ie I can see files on the network from the phone, but haven't found anything to make the phone share its own files.
Is this possible? Can't see any particular reason why not - networking obviously works the other way, I know you can get http and ftp servers for the phone. Am I just missing something?
If there isn't a program out there that can do it, is it because no one's found a use for it and so not developed it, or is there a technical reason why it can't be done?
Any help much appreciated!
David

Mocha FTP server
Does anybody how i could access my Pocket PC from my PC over the network. I could do it vice versa through Resco but i can't do Pocket PC from PC nor Pocket PC to Pocket PC. Any ideas? I would like it to happen just how the PC does it, with no major add-ons. I don't want to have to deal with VNC, FTP, etc. So if you know, i'd really like to know the answer. Thanks
I was looking for the same thing and haven't been able to find anything.
(I know you said u didn't want to use FTP)
So far the only thing I have been able to find for this is an FTP solution.

I can access the local network from the phone, but apparently there is no SMB server available for Wm6
Why can't you just use the explorer function of ActiveSync?

There are multiple reasons for wanting to access your device from the network. I myself am using multiple machines and would like to drag and drop files from my phone without having to get a bluetooth dongle and install active sync on every one of those machines.
If anyone has setup a smb server for wm6 i'd love to know, also if anyone has any other recommendations for a good ftp server that mocha one doesn't run in the background properly and the bottom toolbar for it stays on my today screen.
Not exactly what you're after, but I've seen a web server for WinMo around somewhere...
Or maybe something along the lines of a VNC client?
Yea, there are reasons for the networking thing. I have several devices on the network and i would life to get a NAS device. I don't want to go to the trouble of setting up ftp/vnc. Mapping the device using Resco works GREAT. For some reason, my laptop can't find my Tilt when i search for devices on the network and i was thinking maybe it was because it didn't have the same workgroup name?
useful for sure
Assuming you're on the LAN with WiFi, what happens when you port-scan your device's IP?
Not sure what you mean by port-scan but when i go to file explorer on my laptop and type \\ip of tilt, it gives me some error. I'm really trying to look into this and most advice is using vnc and another program which i don't want.

I don't think you're understanding when i said wm6 doesn't have a SMB server running.
Basically, it isn't running the microsoft networking services to access the file shares. You wont get it to work unless you get some sort of SMB daemon(server) for the phone, which to my knowledge doesn't exist.
look up SMB in wikipedia and u will understand what im talking about.
If using Resco to map shares, will you be able to play media (music, movies) over the wlan then, or will it not be fast enough?
I'm assuming that mediaplayer in wm6 won't have a problem playing from shares...or am I wrong?

I kind of got this resolved. Not the way i really wanted it, but now i use Pocket Controller Enterprise and it does this. Really nice features, i could connect to anybody in the world, just need their host name.
Doesn't the desktop version of total commander do this? The only problem is the desktop version isn't free...
Thinking about getting my wife a Xoom to somewhat replace her aged W7 laptop. However, we have numerous shares on a Windows Home Server which she uses for blogging, Facebook, extra storage, etc.
Anyone know of an easy way to access these shares via the Xoom? Not interested in the ability to stream but just accessing pictures, documents, etc that are stored on the WHS without having to create a "remote desktop" type of connection. Also ability to send items to the WHS for storage/backup.
Thanks.

I use AndroXplorer and it also works on xoom.
What about try something like this?
http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=2828
Using ES File Explorer I can browse my LAN, transfer files and even stream some types of media files directly to the XOOM.
If you set up the remote access in the WHS console, you should be good to access it with a web browser. You can't do the Remote Desktop without IE which is a drawback for me.
Great.....sounds like there are a few options. I wasn't sure if 2.2 apps would run on Honeycomb. Guessing they will from these replies.
As for Dropbox, not sure if it is what I need for shares but setting up a service might be good for other things cause I use it quite a bit.
Thanks.

I briefly tested WHS access on my XOOM and was able to sign in via the web. Like you said, there was no remote access, but I could access my shares. Is there anything specifically you'd like me to try?

I was able to see all of my server media using Skifta (DLNA server app) when I tried the other day, but it failed to load videos. I'm sure this is a codec problem or something and will be remedied over time.

Good info to know. Again...not worried about streaming. Just wanted to make sure the ability to access shares was there (say if I wanted to pull a document or picture off of it).
Thanks.

I was able to remote access the shares on my Xoom to my WHS but when I try and download a file, it downloads a web page html file, I'm guess it is the remote access file explorer screen, not the file. For example if I have a file "status.txt" I'll remote access to the WHS, then download the file, I get "status.htm" downloaded, not the text file. Opening it I see html code which is far beyond what I know.
I have a home network with several computers with shares. I can see all of the computers using Shares Finder. One thing I can not get to work is my Media server shares. I was able to mount for a while last night using CifsManerger but is stopped working.
I have one computer that I can see all the shares with Shares Finder. I can use ES File Manager and access to shares but not on any other computer. All my computers are running Windows 7 and I have gone over and everything looks setup exactly the same.
When Share Finder runs it says SMB: 12 files and that is the number of shares found and will list all the shares and these are the shares I can access. My Media PC will not do this. Any Ideas?
Are your boxes in a domain?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I found that if I copy a file to the server that it will stop working. If I reboot the server it starts working again. I copy several dvd rips per week to the media server so I hope someone can figure this out. I have several hundred rips to this server so PLASE help.!
