says who? because I just left the sprint store getting my phone replaced, and they said its OTA today for a small rollout. the manager who owns a nexus s who was shocked I had a defected Nexus already had the update, but had no comment since our areas internet was down
I copied that off of my dealer news page in my store
Well, since this is a Nexus, I thought Samsung was not a factor in our updates. If this is the case, its making my decision easier to stick with my EVO 3D and look past the SGS2.
I really like my NS4G, but the intermittent signal issues are not a factor on the EVO.
Guess I'll see what happens.

I also would like to know what your source was. Because this is a Nexus Google phone, the update comes directly from Google. Samsung has little to do with the update process.

Would radio updates be pure google? I didn't think so but I'm not positive.
CM7'd Nexus S 4G
Keep in mind that Sprint had a nationwide SMS failure today, so it could be that they needed to push everything back for maintenance.

Radio drivers are proprietary (thus not a part of the AOSP) and typically are developed and distributed by the hardware manufacturer (in this case Samsung).
But on the other hand they are typically bundled with OS software.
In this case, I would think Samsung would update their radio drivers, give them to Google, Google would build a new ROM and put together an OTA, then in the case of NS4G Sprint might even be involved in pushing it out, and their engineers were a tad busy today.

He was just updated to the current version on his brand new phone, not the rumored upgrade. I doubt that we see anything new today.
Was anticipating the update but oh well. No other phone has a official, stable 2.3.4 yet and we're looking to be set to get 2.3.5 in a couple of days.
Just relax, chances were slim that you'd be among the first 5% anyways and converting the OTA in a useable zip/img w/e would ahve taken some time as well.

I seriously seriously seriously doubt the Android Version is bumped. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty confident the update will not change the version to anything other than 2.3.4.

Right, who am I kidding....
They pulled the update within 3 days of it's release, I believe.
Sprint site did, I believe. Samsung's was still up as of this morning, gone now.
Now I just hope they release a new update soon...Ever since the froyo update my 3g is slow and wifi and 4g are practically useless, It times out so much
they'll probably be releasing a new update soon.

When I first updated to EB13, it was aweful. I can't get Samsungs drivers to load on my Sony laptop or desktop so no rooting...plus all of the known failures.
I took it in to a Sprint Center and they had soome fixes and did a clean install for me including, the fixes. Now, for the most part, all is good. Still lousy wifi signal and no root, wired tether or wireless tether... except through The Hotspot.
The tech said it was what Samsung had given them to fix the update.

Not worth the wait (and sooo glad I did the VPN hack update)
Apparently the ATT exclusive *features* they are adding is a WISPr protocol that switches you to login into att wifi hotspots automatically when near one. To save you (and them) data bandwidth.
The other feature is to allow you to sync your contacts with your att address book. Even lamer.
So yes ATT made you wait this long for nothing.
Lesson learned. Always rely on the fans and community for support, not the ones you have a contract with.

Radio is hugebpart of update
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
and ironically the Radio is the only thing that BLOWS on this phone. The ONE thing they had to do they screwed up on.
In order to build android you have to have the proprietary binary files for the wimax and cdma radio. the documents above prove that update has been built and they have the "new radio" if they are even going to update it. so i would not blame sprint/samsung for the delay, they did their job. google needs to finish with whatever tweaks they are working on and release the update or at least commit the code so we can compile.

I'm not sure why a new thread was needed but this delay could be because of tweaks needed for google wallet as that seems to be the big feature coming to the Nexus S line.

I found this at opensource.samsung.com for the SPH-D720. Not sure if means much and still would be nice if they release come source code that they currently have. Either way no big deal, I enjoy my Nexus S and really dont any issues with it. I would like better radio signal but who wouldn't. You could get a phone much worse off at Verizon, AT&T, or T-MOBILE. So good luck to the people jumping the boat. I expect a influx of people joining up with Sprint before Spring and then it will bog down the network. I hope they have a plan in place to take care of that issue that may happen.

yeah they should speed up the update release. It's quite disappointing since I heard about the Prime ICS release which is said to arrive before the Xoom? oO
The Xoom is a Google experience device like all the Nexus phones. Google is the one that controls the updates. Verizon may hold up the process a bit for the 3G/4g versions, but it is essentially a Google controlled device. One has to wonder what is taking so long, but after hearing about the Transformer Prime update woes I don't mind the little extra wait, unless its another 6 month wait like it was to get the LTE upgrade.

I'm stock rooted still on GB. I'm not into roms necessarily only reason I root is for wifi tether and titanium backup. Or maybe removing or freezing apps but it doesn't matter on a nexus device. Bottom line is that GS2 and vivid GSM models have gotten updates before my nexus. All I'm saying is CDMA networks do not push updates for nexus devices as they should and google obviously can't provide updates in a timely manor for these devices either. This is a problem with google plus the cdma networks.

ahh ok,I can respect that. Much more than all the other threads on here complaining about not getting the update, yours is more based on the CDMA networks which is the source of the problem for what you're referring to.
That's why I came here cdma updates can be few and far between at times.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
There isn't a reason really. With an htc device for example you get aosp like cyanogen plus you get sense if you want it. I had both options on my evo shift. No one really knew the cdma nexus experience didn't really mean **** until recently since this was the first cdma nexus.
The good thing about this is that now i have opened myself up to more options for my next phone like the htc one or gs3 where up until about January i was only ever going to get nexus phones even though they are usually lacking in something like the camera, fm radio, no sd slot or whatever. And it doesn't matter since updates won't cone any faster and the wonderful devs keep us up to date.
the files for the cdma radio are proprietary, google has to wait for the networks to provide them. googles part is done and available. they even came said a few months ago that cdma nexii arent considered developer phones anymore, just for that reason. its the cdma networks that you should let know how you feel.
im on 2.3.7, it aint broke so im in no hurry to fix it. when i get an official update then ill update. i dont see what the big deal is
