any vodafone customers in living in mumbai here? - Galaxy 3 General

Okay so I have this issue with my phone / operator. the calls keep dropping. it's really annoying. also, most of the times I can't dial and receive calls (the caller just gets the "the vodafone number you have called is currently unavailable message").
I googled this error and found a few threads spread across various forums and turns out the issue is restricted to users of Galaxy 3 who have opted for vodafone and who live in Mumbai. now this is sort of a weird issue, but it sucks that all I satisfy all the above three criteria.
Anyway, previously I was running eclair when this issue started and I went to the Samsung service centre and they updated my firmware to Froyo and the issue got solved. For a month and a half.
Now it has started again, no matter which ROM i use. I haven't tried the stock one again, though. But after running Kyrillos (which i flashed today, and so far I'm absolutely loving it. Thank you, dude!) I don't feel like reverting to stock ROMs. And besides, this issue was not present initially on InDroid. It only started three days ago.
Also, I seem to have misplaced my bill (and hence no more warranty for me). And the Samsung service centre charges 450 bucks for a simple firmware flash, so that I would like to keep as my last resort. And the person at the help desk specifically told me that they do nothing other than just updating the firmware. So I don't think it's a hardware issue.
Any suggestions as to what I should do? Btw, for those of you who aren't Indian, Mumbai is a famous city in India.
EDIT : oh also, it seems that turning the data network mode off helps some people (including me, so far). but I have a torrent downloading client constantly running in the background so preferably I'd like to keep the data network mode on.

Your solution is hidden inside ur question only... when you data connection is constantly ON, you phone can go unreachable for users many times who r calling u... this is a very general problem in G3.. and i am not surprised wid that... that's y i keep GPRS off most of d time and use only when required... Just remember GPRS is the only problem your having wid you.. flash any firmware either by urself or by service centre... problem will remain d same.... so better dont use torrents atleast and you'll feel improvement...

But when I upgraded from eclair to froyo the problem went away for a month and a half or so. Now it started coming back again. Why should data connection and receiving calls be connected? I have noticed that when I make a call the edge/3g sign goes away meaning I can't operate both at the same time.. but are you also facing the same problem even in Delhi?

constantly dropping service

I've had my wizard (cingular 8125) for just a little but over a year, but this past month I've had some abnormal issues with it.
I've dropped this phone a few times, but randomly this past month I have noticed a severe amount of service dropping in different forms.
Sometimes I'll be on the phone and it will randomly drop and start searching for a signal, in a well serviced area. Sometimes I'll be texting, and it will have service(2-6bars, enough for texting) but it will refuse to send the message, and when I try to call, it says invalid sim, and I have to reboot.
Sometimes If I am lucky, when the service drops it will pick it up within 20 seconds, it can take up to 5min, and sometimes I have to restart it.
This phone has been stock up untill this problem started (no rom flashing/anything) I tried unlocking it and trying different roms on it recently as a last ditch effort to fix this annoying problem. If anyone knows of a solution to this problem, I'd be really appreciative of it, otherwise im getting a new phone
While my first instinct is to convince you to sell me your otherwise functioning phone on the cheap, I must resort to being the good guy (or else get spanked by the mods...)
There is a registry fix for the kind of signal dropping you're describing. I'm surprised you went for so long without experiencing the problem. I did almost right away when I got mine last year. You should try it first, if you haven't already...
I think this is the one I used:
http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/fix_drop_calls
i don't think its a Rom problem,as signal reception is not depended on the Rom,its an OS,rather its more depended on the Radio Rom (GSM) of the phone.Usually,by upgrading the Radio Rom improves the signal reception quality.Instead of flashing different roms, try to flash different Radio Roms and check if it improves the signal quality.
But,here,I think, perhaps, the problem lies more on the hardware part then the Radio Rom. as you say,it has been dropped a couple of times,it may be the the External Antenna cover has lost proper connection with the Internal antenna connection.Check the fastening clips which snap in to secure the External antenna cover to the internal are properly secured in and have not come off, are not loose or broken, which might be causing it to not having proper connection.
Cheers!
Well i tweaked those settings and tore this baby apart, and honestly the service was dramatically improved for this entire week, untill thursday, when service began dropping and it began to start telling me my sim was invalid. So I'm kinda lost here, it seems no one else has had this type of issue....
And on a sidenote I am unable to connect to gprs or edge to send pictures via mms. I noticed this after I started flashing different roms, so I think its software related. I did however download that .cab package floating around that has all the cingular media net settings. But when I try to send a picture my phone just seems kinda lost lol
bump!
I reflashed the rom to the official htc cingular rom, and that fixed the edge/gprs issue, but service is still bad.... Id like to try some different radio roms before totally giving up hope on this thing, but this site has seem to take down its ftp.... anyone have any wizard radio roms uploaded? preferably ones that work well with cingular/ at&t here in the US.... thanks
bump... guess no one has any ideas=(..... but since the ftp is back up ill try some radio roms

My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection

My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection. To restore it I have to restart the phone. T-Mobile say that this happens from time to time, but it's happening every day now. It's annoying as it stops my push email from being up to date, and of course prevents the use of any internet based services until the phone is restarted.
Has anyone else noticed their phone has switching to GSM?
Had mine for 6 days.Been fine up until today, then I had the same problem.Only the once so far.
Confirm loosing 3G
Confirm loosing 3G connection, and also have phone call failures.
Factory reset did not solve the problem.
Bring it back to shop
Blackstone is back now!
At first this was occasional with my phone, then more frequent, and it's all the time. If I want to use the Internet I have to restart the phone. My house is covered by full HSPA, but the only way to get it is to take the battery out while the phone is switched on. I can sometimes get 3G by a simple restart, which I lasts about 40 minutes.
I like the phone, so I'm going to hold out for a software update. All it needs to do is check available networks and I think that, if this is a wide spread issue, Samsung/Microsoft will fix it. Hope so.
Please post here if you have this issue too.
I have also been having this issue... sometimes it doesnt come back straight away when i restart it but after about 10mins its back.
When I activated it with orange I was told to expect a few txt msg's that would need deleting and the phone restarting... I only got 1 msg, maybe this has something to do with it, maybe the phone hasnt been sent enough updates.
I also have this issue and have done for weeks. Orange couldn't solve it either.
It only happens overnight at home. I either need to reset the phone / rescan available networks or turn flight mode off and on again for the connection to restore.
I was thinking it may be an issue with t-mobile since it only happens at my home where orange signal is poor and i roam over to t-mobile.
If i stay in an area with good Orange signal i don't get the problem.
Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem. It's very annoying!
Hi y'all.
I had the same problem: 3G was lost every time. I was fed up restarting the phone every time, so I looked for another way to get 3G back. I found out that disabling and enabling SIM security (phone > setttings) got me 3G again... for a short while.
But: after disabling SIM security permanently, 3G kept on going (in fact for over a week now).
I think that changing the PIN to some other number, might cause this. I haven't yet tried changing it to the default PIN again, to see if using that for SIM security solves it. For the moment I'm too happy it works again.
I have suffered from poor reception issues ever since I got my Omnia 7.
It seems like the reception comes and goes. I will receive e-mails, which proves that the phone has been connected, but as soon as I try to use data myself, by visiting a web page or refreshing an app like facebook, the reception disappears and the "no reception" symbol drops down from the status bar.
Also, often when I try to send an SMS, it will appear to have been sent, yet 10 minutes later I will receive a "Can't send...try again" message. Once I have received this, the SMS will never successfully send. However, in the meantime I can receive SMS messages, which shows that the phone has been getting a signal.
This is SO frustrating and is ruining my experience with the phone.
I have posted requests on the Microsoft Answers forum and the only suggestions have been to reset the phone or turn WiFi off. Neither of these have had any effect. I have never enabled SIM lock.
I have heard that there is a firmware update due soon which includes a new radio stack. I am desperately hoping that this will improve the situation, as at the moment I cannot rely on my Omnia 7 as my only phone.
Alex.
Hi Loco,
You are right in saying that social answers doesn't really help much .
Luckily there IS a new firmware from a couple of days ago! Check out the Omnia 7 Dev section. There are only a few posts.
And here is also a good link for you. You are right to assume that it comes with a new radio stack which improves on performance.

Finally found a thread on this... I have been having a similar problem since I got my phone from Optus here in Australia. I took it back and they replaced it for me but the new phone is exactly the same. I don't lose the 3G icon but anything data related just ceases from loading. Right now I'm trying to refresh the Facebook app and it just comes up with 'Unable to connect', even though I have full 3G reception.
I flashed it to the newer leaked firmware and it hasn't changed anything, problem still persists unfortunately. This is a major problem that isn't getting enough attention! It seems quite widespread and Omnia 7 specific.
Had similar problems, but after I changed my provider ( O2-Germany), 3G is stable.
For the people having this problem, have you tried setting the phone to prefer 3g? Details of how to do this are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915813

Same here man. On Optus and my reception sucks with this device. What the hell is samsung doing? FIX IT!
I have been having this problem with my Omnia 7. The frustrating thing is this is a replacement phone I had for an LG which I had replaced THREE TIMES due to random resets. So now I have a phone that I have to turn off and on EVERY MORNING in order for the data connection to start working again. Needless to say I am very frustrated. I am on Orange in the UK. I suspect it could be related to when being an a poor reception area and it tries to switch to tmobile. I am going to try turning roaming off. Please, if anyone finds a solution to this let me know.
Thanks

My problem got worse with the Mango update. I'm now on my 2nd handset after having a replacement from Orange warranty. This one still loses it's connection but much less frequently.
TBH i don't think it will ever get fixed. I started an MS Answers thread months ago and lots of people had the same problem but we never got a response from MS.
Conisdering the age of the model now I doubt Samsung care, well they didn't seem to care a year ago so they won't now... For this reason I will not buy another Samsung phone. It's infuriating.
Looks like I am stuck with it until December then when I can upgrade to a Nokia lumia. A long wait :-(
i have this issue, too.. but for me i only have to set airplane mode on and off. sometimes i deactivate data connection, go to a random website, get the 'no connection' error, then activate data connection back and it works.
however, after installing the latest drivers & firmware, i get this issue A LOT less frequent. like once in 2-3 days.
i hope ms or samsung will fix this because it can get really annoying. especially when you need eg. a quick google-search..
Just flicking the flight mode wouldn't be so bad but that doesn't work for me, I have to restart the phone each time. I love WP7 but this and the other problems with the LG is driving me nuts. Almost wondering whether I should have just followed the crowd and gone for an iPhone.

Same as me - Flicking flight mode on-off doesn't solve it, needs a soft-reset.
Like I say, there are quite a few with Omnias on Orange with this problem.
I'm in the same boat, I've had this for months now so I guess I'll just deal with it until I can upgrade the start of April and get a Lumia (hopefully the EU 900/910 will be here by then!). There is no way on this earth Samsung are getting any more of my money. Nokia seem fully commited so they can take my cash next time!
I have the same problem with the data stopping working on o2 in the UK. But I also sometimes cant receive calls even though the phone has service, then there are the times where it site there going GPRS/3G/3G+/No Service and you cant do anything with it apart from pull the battery.

Source of connection, phone call problem.

Seems nobody talks about the call problems anymore. My guess is people given upp. Well the good news from Sweden Samsung is that they are aware of the problem! They have keept denying it or saying tbay cant replicate the problem. Finaly it seems like they are actually trying to get there hands dirty. Maybe because its on all new Samsung mobiles.
Now i was having a idea about the source of the problem, but to get some peace of mind on it, all can post if it works, or not. Hopefully we can at least get to the source of the problem.
Now here is my take on the issues, my way of counting out factors:
Here in Sweden, only 1 carrier have Edge on there network. And its the only company reporting call/connection issues. (calls get randomly muted, robot calls, phone keeps changing network, slow internet etc)
Samsung have a new codec on there phones, trying to achive a new, better, call quality. So my belives is that audio codec have trouble using Edge, and that could at least be a start to find the root of evil (but with a great original idea)
So, do you have the mute call issue? Yes/No
Do your carrier have Edge? Yes/No
Plz answer and lets see if we have a more direct approach to complain/call in issues to Samsung all around the world, remember. The more that reports/complain to the company, bigger chance they speed up time to fix it ... although Samsung isnt fast to come around :/
Well post away, does it work on Edge or not?
Yes I have this problem and my operator has EDGE. And I'm battling to get another phone in this price range (probably the HTC desire HD), becasue my service can't fix this and the operator has no clue to what could be wrong. I recomend you ditch the omnia to.
Remember to not but Samsung s2 or any, same prob.:-(. Been thinking the same as you but im gona stick to it cuz my phone is carrier free etc, and my current contract ends in 3-4 months or so, so im on to a new carrier. Sad but thru. Samsung should have addressed this issue fast, now there paying the price on other newer models.
Thnx for the reply, 1 answer and still on right track :-D
given up is the correct word...
next phone won't be samsung either way =) just to bother them!
Can you relate to edge problem to?
Seems there is no Omnia 7 uers left =(
Yes I have the mute call issue, but as far as I can tell, my Carrier does not use EDGE.
When the mute call occurs I see the phone rapidly trying to change networks, and ultimately if it settles on G there are no more mutes in that call. If it goes back to 3G it happens again. During that time the phone loses the signal completely, then jumps back to full once the switch is complete.
Darn, that could mean the end of my theory. Make sure your 100% sure.
Now, with so little going on, i thought people would love a poll to klick on =P
As far as I could find out, My carrier had a test rollout of EDGE in one city, but didn't continue with it. So, no, no EDGE atleast not in the areas I go to.
I'm in Austria, Provider is A1 and it uses EDGE
Fixed my problem by locking the phone to 3G network
Downside is that I have no signal in an area where 3G coverage is poor...
(so I've to switch back to automatic mode sometimes)...
man, this sucks really bad...
Given up describes it best, so many critical bugs (not only the call issue), never ever Samsung again, its a brick with a great screen. How come early reviews didnt report any of these flaws...
I locked the Phone to 3G and still experience silence during calls and creepy modem sounds. Phone tries to switch 3g on and off and eventually loses signal altogether. Last time I could not end the call after it went silent, windows just froze saying "ending call.....".
Usually doesnt happen in areas with really good coverage like cities, but rural areas make it unusable.
You used Cheveron? I have the call issue bug. Sometimes it happens and sometimes its like there no problem. Its like some days is a bad day and other a good day.
I know for a fact that all carriers in Sweden have no problems exept 1. And since the phone is otherwise the best, im soon changing carrier ... cant wait.
I bought my omnia about 5 months ago from ebay and I face this mute problem since, I was living in Oman when I bought this and now I am living in Indonesia and still facing the same problem even if I used another carrier SIM card.
Actually in my case this problem start only when I received a call and I start can hear the caller voice exactly after 12 seconds of connection and after that call, the mute problem happen for all incoming and outgoing call and I need to restart the phone if I want to make outgoing call without mute problem.
Are you guys having the same symtomp and situation?
fyi all carriers in oman and indonesia has both edge and 3G mode, but locking the phone to 3G didn't solve the problem in my case.
yep pretty much the same, you need to restart it in order to place a call again. That however doesnt guarantee that it wont bug again in a couple of minutes. Its very sensitive to signal strength, hence it happens very irregularly, nevertheless its not an operator issue.
Its maybe more pronounced on some networks since coverage varies.
Locking to edge definitely wont fix it, since it will bug on 3g / 3g+ switching still. It is a Samsung radio issue, its time they finally take credit for their flaws...the hard way.
Some more info from me. My theory is that this is not a Samsung-operator problem but only samsung problem. Because I have also tried my phone with a diferent SIM and i had the same problems, mute/modem calls, a little less but nonetheless. So this I think is totaly a Samsung f*** up. I you can excange your phone for a nother in the price range. The HTC sensation seems good but I know it's android but hey better android then a phone that even can't handle calls. I myself am in talks with my operator to change the Omnia for the sensation because they can not fix the problem. I also got we never heard of this before and then I recorded a video of the phone making the modem sounds (the video is on the forum) and presented it to them and said that they fix this or another phone, and now they I think will never know how to fix it so I will probably get a new phone (the sensation). Cheers.
That its Samsungs fault is there no question about. But i just wanted to se if Edge could be a problem, as it seems to be in Sweden at least. And help folks at, for now, choose a diff carrier that might work better = we are all sleeping soundly. Omnia 7 is the best phone out there atm according to me. But thiss connection/ mute call is really destroying one of the best phones atm. :'(
@voltageMX, lucky you but I think you're going to miss samoled display since Sensation only have SLCD display but at least you'll have a phone that working as a phone.
Too bad I bought my omnia from ebay...so I can't ask for replacement from the seller.
my only hope is mango update will cure the problem...
When call issue occurs i usally turns phone off, remove battery a short short while and start it up. I have noticed this have a lottery effect, i can go some day without the issue, only to se it return again, but as a temp fix it ...is better then nothing =/
Now is there any others that called Samsung in there country recently? In Sweden we got a radio Firmware you can get...by sending in your phonE!!!
But it seems to do the jobb. Internet have been reported faster also. We had users signing up and talking directly to Samsung to aid them in there search for the problem. And finally we got it. Waiting for my phone to return so ill report back about firmware version etc.
So, anybody recently talked to Samsung?
Hi,
I'm from Malaysia and I used to have the 2 seconds mute when I was on a 2G network. After that I switch to an operator which only has 3G (domestic roaming for 2G) and I don't face that issue anymore.

I use Vodafone network too,
And ya, i recently i had similar problems as well
i have the same issue too. in fact, a LOT of people have the same issue.
only thing is, it's not a vodafone issue. every service provider will give you the same results (tried and tested).
and everyone in my family has vodafone. it's only my calls that drop. and then they don't connect back, i get the no signal sign, data network mode goes off etc.
try pressing *#2263# and go to select band, then select GSM 900. it works for some people. not for me, though.
Weird!
I've been using this phone for nearly a year now and till date I haven't faced any problems as such.

i am also facing the same prob..very much frustated with this prob..thinking of changing my provider....will dat help??
obviously changing the provider will solve the issue.. I tried using Airtel in my phone but haven't faced such problem.. Problem is only with vodafone ..
I tried pressing *#2263# , and choose the option GSM 900.. And the network went off completely.. weird
Never had any such problems with Vodafone..very stable network in fact..
strange! im using vodafone in bangalore and no such probs!
once or twice lost signal after going to basment and woudnt come back but just restarting solved this! its only happened 2 times in 7 months!
also once had problems with NO SIM but re-inserting solved it!
all in all very stable network with no such probs!
by choosing GSM 900 your network will go off only for a few seconds, then it'll restart and you'll get your usual full connectivity.
from what i've read on google, the network issue is not limited to Vodafone. In fact, it's spread over Airtel, BSNL and MTNL too. So it is an issue with our phone, not vodafone. also, my family members who also have vodafone are not facing any issue.
try searching in the galaxy 3 forum, there are over 5-6 threads with different users complaining for the same issue. one of them had airtel, i think.
okay, here's how i came to discover this error : (it's long, but read on)
i bought the phone when it was running Eclair. it worked fine for a few days then i started to face the issue. when i tried sliding the green answering thing to the right, it just wouldn't answer. it would go back in it's place. when people called me, it said it was unavailable. my network used to restart, and calls would randomly get cut and i couldn't call back immediately. i had to wait for 10-15 seconds before i could make / receive any call again. within this time, the calls would dial, but not connect.
so i upgraded to froyo (JP2) from the samsung gallery. my phone worked PERFECTLY for two months or so. no call drops, no nothing. then all of the above started happening again.
i tried flashing different ROMs, kernels etc but nothing helps.
i'm still facing the issue btw. and it sucks. almost makes me want to not use the phone sometimes. but the thing is, i've noticed, it doesn't happen everywhere. it doesn't happen in churchgate or anywhere around town. happens in bandra (but less) , in chembur (where i live) it happens a lot.
well now that there are a handful of us, hopefully some major developer could help us solve this issue.
PS : tell me if you face similar problems, or if yours are different from mine.

Well, I too face some of the problems mentioned by you viz. the call answer sliding issue, and incoming calls turn to missed call, though the other person says the phone still rings. Have tried different combinations of ROMs and kernels, but no avail. These happens rarely though. Its irritating especially when it happens when we had to answer an urgent call.
Have you faced this problem while in stock Indian firmware?

yeah, on eclair it was unavailable. now they say it rings, but i can't answer. so yeah, you and i face the same issues. only thing is, i face it often. like, once a day or something.
Even i face the same problems as said above.. exactly the same.. I tried several ways, i bought an duplicate sim thinking that the old sim must be faulty, but the problem continued.. Really fed up with this phone..

same problem everywhere.....thinking of giving up this phone.but cannot give up due to awesome devs who r making this phone a legend...
I have been using vodafone since i started using cell phone.. Only problem u mite be facing is a network problem.. Theres nothing wrong with the mobile phone.. Some areas in india have a network issue.. In mumbai i get '3.5g'(h+) network on sgs-2 and '3g'(h) on sg3.. If still u think there is a prob with cellphone try other provider (the 1 which has good network in uer area)...:d
This phone is awesome. Just network issue should get solved..
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
if you cannot slide the green bar to answer the phone, just press the power key when the call is ringing and then home key to turn on the screen. then you can answer the phone
hope this helps..

Data problem (gsm/wcdma issue)

Hi, i really need your help.. i try everything what i know but still nothing..
i came from a s3 where only reflashing the modem solve the problem but now on my new s4 i don't understand. .
Sunday i flash a clean fresh installation of omega v10
everything works great. . Monday, everything works perfect..
now today and yesterday i lost signal if i use wcdma only or gsm/wcdma auto. My data drops, no signal, no data, nothing. .
if i switch to Gsm only (edge) signal is back online, data, etc.. works perfect.
I reflash the modem but still can't use my wcdma (h/h+) anymore
Someone knows what to do please?.
thanks!
device info:
i9505
MH1 rom fw (with LTE/wifi fix)
MGA modem
Reflash stock firmware MH8 .. still the same
Mail to my operator. . Everything is fine in my area..
don't know it anymore ..
edit:
Find same problems on other site..
guess i need to go to the store again

Dont be so fast to blame your phone. I had problems from 6am a couple of days ago, same symptoms, good signal but phone calls only, no data, so I was convinced I had caused it by flashing too many modems/roms. Reflashed my modem with no effect. By 10 am I was ready to do a full reflash to stock but I rang my network to enquire if there were any problems, and eventually they admitted it was a problem their end caused by network maintenance. By 6 in the evening it was all back to normal, panic over.
So make some enquiries before you do anymore flashing, and dont assume that because the network provider says there isnt a problem they are telling the truth, lol.

haha ok i understand.. but this is almost 14days on the go so i'm tierd now of looking all day, searching for a solution mate

I have just read the other thread and you state that the problem only occurs when you are at work, everything is perfect when you are at home.
That tells me its a network issue not a hardware/software issue.
When my problems started in May 2012 (good signal but data speeds of 25kb or less, often nothing), it took me about 6 weeks of daily phone calls before Three eventually admitted activating a cell tower very close to me and this mast wasnt operating correctly. For weeks customer services had insisted that my phone was at fault, but as I tried to explain, it worked fine everywhere else.

The problem still persists, although to a lesser degree since recent upgrades to the mast, and I have been given quite a substantial refund for my troubles.
