Whats the largest micro sd I can place in my Leo... Currently have an 8 GB in there but am quickly filling it since having movies / music on it like no tomorrow!!
Any help would be great, thanks dudes.
You didn't find the answer anywhere on the net? In that case, they can hold a max of 128GB.

I've got a 16GB in mine and it works perfectly. I'll get a 32GB but want the price to drop before I do. They're still quite pricey.
16GB is suiting me fine. I have a seperate 8GB one for putting movies and stuff on. It just means I have to have CorePlayer installed on the device so I can switch cards and still play movies.

Ignore the above comment by lude219. 128GB cards won't be available until next year at the earliest. 32GB is currently the largest on the market. There will be 64GB (and possibly 48GB) soon, but not yet.

Not true, Sandisk does not have a 32GB microSDHC card on the market at present. Maximum capacity is 16GB only (class 2 and class 4).

can't find any 32gb micro sds on amazon or ebay? only normal sized SDHC cards.
Samsung expect their 32GB to be in the market by February according to their recent announcement, I expect Sandisk will want to be released for sale by then also.
Class 6 cards are available from non-Sandisk manufacturers by the way.
im guessing the will charge a ridculous amount...probs about £50 or some ****

Microsdhc only supports sizes up to 32gb. We wont be seeing 64gb cards except with sdxc, but hd2 doesn't support sdxc.

is that because of hardware or software? i had an old HTC Excalibur that ran winmo 5.0 back in the day. got a 8 gig card that wouldn't read in it until i flashed it to winmo 6.5. after that, it read the card no problem. funny thing is the 'fine folks' over at T-Mobile assured me that nothing over 4GB would ever work in my phone.
so i wonder, with our devices being able to run winmo, android, different variations of linux, etc... could it be just a software problem?
The HTC HD2 can only hold up to a 32 gig 2.0 Micro SD card. Click the link for proof, notice the "Expansion" in the spec list, oh yeah this is straight from HTC.

so i started surfing around, looking for more info on this topic. i found a thread from another forum citing some interesting conversation regarding the same issue. to quote from page 5 of that forum...

Hmmmm interesting conversation there, I read all six pages by the way. The one guy seemed to be pretty sure of himself. But from what he said if you use a SDXC card that uses extFAT in a decice that does not support extFAT. It will reformat it with Fat 32 making it a regular SDHC card without the extra advantage of the higher speeds that a SDXC reader that does support extFAT can use.
right, that's what i got out of it too. but the big bonus there is that even with the reformat, the space on that card is still accessible, be it 'just' sdhc speeds. that's ok though, cuz that's what we're used to. i'd really like some of the xda developers to take a look at this and see what they can do.
on a somewhat related note, there's a program i use on my laptop called 'macdrive' which allows me to view previously unrecognized files and partitions which windows doesn't see naturally. this allows me to tri-boot (linux, mac, and windows) and modify each of those partitions from any one of the systems.
point here, is that even if there is initially a problem reading the data on a sdxc card, it seems that problem is only with the software not hardware and therefore can be modified.
if i could program i'd start experimenting myself.

This is very true, and I am in the same boot as you. I wish I had the dev knowledge and skills to start working on something for this, or a real dev could get there hands on this and see what is possible. I guess the only true way to put this to the test is for someone to get there hands on one of these beast of a SD card (64 to 128 gig what ) and stick it in the HD2 to see what it does.
I am still deliberating wether to get the HD2. One thing that worries me is the quite limited storage capacity with the microSD card. As far as I understand the microSD (SDHC) standard only supports up to 32GB capacities. I know 32GB is quite large, but I anticipate my needs will grow.
My question is - will HD2 be able to use the 64Gb, 128GB .... cards that come out probably one year from now.

Seeing 32GB cards aren't available yet, and we've been waiting for them for like 2 years, I'm pretty sure you'll have changed your HD2 before 64GB cards are here

I believe 64GB is here in couple of months. Blackberry rumours are that new devices will come with support for 64GB microsd cards.

I guess the problem is not with the sheer size of the microsd (ok that is important if you have a huge music library or movies or something else that needs to be on your phone all the time), but how fast it is while copying. If you put it in your phone and connect usb, how fast is it in disk mode? 20 MB/s?

It's microSDHC... which means a maximum of 32GB.
microSDXC cards with more than 32GB will NOT work.

Well, SD to SDHC was a firmware upgrade away for many common controllers. But I've just done a little search and it seems that it might not be the case for SDHC to SDXC indeed.

It obviously depends a lot on the card used, some will take 3MB/s while some will take 20MB/s...
It does seem that it's a bit slower than a usual card reader, around 5MB/s with my class 6 8GB Sandisk card vs ~12 in a good card reader.

Just check in Google and don´t let Yourself be misled by wishful thinking: 32 GB mSD cards were announced by Sandisk in Feb 2009 and still we have to wait for shipping them by expansys or easydevices.co.uk until end of May 2010, maybe June..........

I just wanted to look for a bigger card than the stock 16GB, even a 32GB would do, nothing particular about 64GB, nor is looking for higher capacity card any pressing need.
I am least bothered to think so much about manufacturing trouble before looking for a higher capacity card, I dont give a damn about manufacturing trouble if any.
I just searched higher capacity card than 16GB and checked at one which happened to be 64GB.
There is no need to involve big things like hope or belief in something so unimportant or cheap as a SD card.

At the moment, no publicly available microSD card has the correct characteristics to be used as internal memory for WP7.
The "Class" system for SD cards measures minimum bulk transfer speeds, while this is useful for devices like cameras, it is not so good if the SD card is being used as a device's main storage.
This is not FUD or BS - the micro SD cards being shipped with the phones have a lower latency and random read\write rates than the normal ones you can purchase.
The reason they are including user-accessible slots is such that 1) the carriers can offer different capacity sizes in-store when selling the phone and 2) (hopefully) in the near future they may be cards that are publicly available with the correct characteristics that can be certified to work with WP7.
For the time being, I would recommend holding off on buying a micro SD card for your WP7.

I know exactly what you mean - I had a play with a HD7 in my local O2 store and was really really impressed by how fluid and responsive WP7 is. The handset is far better in the flesh than on video reviews and photos. Loved it!
I have the Dell Venue pro on pre-order at Clove.co.uk and Im very tempted to go with the HD7 now...

Bear in mind the HD7 doesn't have an SD card slot, nor does it have an AMOLED screen or Gorilla Glass. The Venue Pro has all that plus 1GB ROM and a hardware keyboard. And it's cheaper.

Class 6 32GB Micro SDHC cards aren't available yet AFAIK.
Also, yes you CAN use the SD card slot on the Venue Pro. Please pay attention. You just slip the SD card in and do a hard reset. Easy-peasy.

Class 6 SD cards are available, I believe Kingston claims to have a Class 10. But remember that the 'Class' system only refers to minimum bulk continuous read\write - not latency or random read\write.
And, yes, you technically CAN use the card slot. What I am saying is that it is NOT RECOMMENDED.
I know some of you won't believe me\Microsoft's own documentation, but the WP7 guys did tests with standard SD cards and they could not achieve the performance they were targeting and, in some cases, caused strange behavior, serious slow downs and even crashes.
So it is possible but, like everything else on this site, you do it at your own risk.
Surely there must be a legitimate technical/design requirement as to why expansion slots are not on the first batch of handsets?
Also if they are going to use custom cards for system/storage doesnt this kind of increase costs?

Sounds about like how they use a custom HDD for their Xbox.... :|
I can go through a few hard resets...unless there is issue with identification of device.

It seems to be less custom cards, in the fact that they can only be sourced through MS, but higher performance cards, unlike the HDDs which are just a rip-off.
Seeing as the cards memory seems to be completely added to the standard, much faster flash memory, it would bog down the system when being accessed, compared to the faster flash used in the phone memory.
If there is such a thing as a class 6 or 10 32GB Micro SDHC card, I'd very much like to see a link to it so I can make a purchase. My class 2 is in the post as it's the fastest I could find.
The notion that putting an SD card in a phone's SD card slot is "NOT RECOMMENDED" is rubbish and again I'd love to see a reference that shows this is the case.
I saw a Focus review where they put a 32GB card in the SD slot and other than having to do a hard reset, they had no problems at all.
WP7 presents the combined internal and SD card storage as one block to the applications, but I'm sure that deep in the OS it knows the difference and uses the faster internal memory when efficiency calls for it.
I just received my Sandisk 32GB Micro SDHC and although it was advertised as class 2, it is in fact class 4! Rejoice!

I'm planning to buy a Transformer in a wk or two and I have some questions regarding the memory to which I can't find a straight answer...
16GB or 32GB version? What amount of memory is available for apps and data in the two models?
WITHOUT the dock, can I just stick a 32GB SDHC card? This should be obviously true, but there are discussions around that make me doubt....

to your first question: i own the 16GB version, and there is a little more than 12GB available for apps and data.
Second question: you can only put micro SD cards in the transformer itself, for normal SD cards you need the dock.

Given how little a 32GB micro SDHC costs, I'm not sure whether it's worth blowing 100$ more on the 32GB model.
I really wonder whether there is any hardware limitation on supporting 64GB micro SD cards, but those are new and a bit pricey so I doubt anyone has tried yet.
somewhere in the accessories subforum someone confirmed that either the microsd or the dock's sd slot (yea, i know, this statement is rediculously ambigous, but i'm too lazy to look up the actual thread) is actually an sdxc. but you're right cost/benefit of those aren't really worth it.
so if all you need is below 48gb of storage, the cheapest is the 16gb TF+32gb microsd. otherwise, go for the 32+32.

Honeycomb doesn't support apps being installed on the microSD card. You will only be able to put media on the microSD card. I doubt many people could use more than 16gb for apps though, but if you buy the 32gb TF101 you can fit more apps on.

Honeycomb is different than other versions of android.
the 16/32GB internal is for all memory. System, Apps, Media, everything that goes on internal or the /sdcard partition.
The sdcard slot is considered removable memory and no apps can be installed to it. All it's good for is your media.

That is a typo...no US version will have a SD card. All the other major US carriers don't have SD card slot or removable battery. Only the Korean version has removable battery.
Never trust what Best Buy or even what Sprint posts because they can have typos. Like on Sprint.com, it lists that the G2 doesn't have Wifi. Obviously the smartphone will have Wifi so that already gives it away there. The best way to verify specs is to look at the LG website. If you look at the link below and go to Technical Specifications and expand it, it only shows Internal Memory of 32 GB ROM (24 GB user memory).
