HD2 Largest Micro SD card?

Hey guys,
Whats the largest micro sd I can place in my Leo... Currently have an 8 GB in there but am quickly filling it since having movies / music on it like no tomorrow!!
Any help would be great, thanks dudes.

You didn't find the answer anywhere on the net? In that case, they can hold a max of 128GB.

I've got a 16GB in mine and it works perfectly. I'll get a 32GB but want the price to drop before I do. They're still quite pricey.
16GB is suiting me fine. I have a seperate 8GB one for putting movies and stuff on. It just means I have to have CorePlayer installed on the device so I can switch cards and still play movies.

Ignore the above comment by lude219. 128GB cards won't be available until next year at the earliest. 32GB is currently the largest on the market. There will be 64GB (and possibly 48GB) soon, but not yet.

Not true, Sandisk does not have a 32GB microSDHC card on the market at present. Maximum capacity is 16GB only (class 2 and class 4).

can't find any 32gb micro sds on amazon or ebay? only normal sized SDHC cards.

Samsung expect their 32GB to be in the market by February according to their recent announcement, I expect Sandisk will want to be released for sale by then also.
Class 6 cards are available from non-Sandisk manufacturers by the way.

im guessing the will charge a ridculous amount...probs about £50 or some ****

Microsdhc only supports sizes up to 32gb. We wont be seeing 64gb cards except with sdxc, but hd2 doesn't support sdxc.

is that because of hardware or software? i had an old HTC Excalibur that ran winmo 5.0 back in the day. got a 8 gig card that wouldn't read in it until i flashed it to winmo 6.5. after that, it read the card no problem. funny thing is the 'fine folks' over at T-Mobile assured me that nothing over 4GB would ever work in my phone.
so i wonder, with our devices being able to run winmo, android, different variations of linux, etc... could it be just a software problem?

The HTC HD2 can only hold up to a 32 gig 2.0 Micro SD card. Click the link for proof, notice the "Expansion" in the spec list, oh yeah this is straight from HTC.

so i started surfing around, looking for more info on this topic. i found a thread from another forum citing some interesting conversation regarding the same issue. to quote from page 5 of that forum...
"What the SD 4.0 specification will add is another pin to SDXC cards which will enable the higher read/write speeds. Hmmmm interesting conversation there, I read all six pages by the way. The one guy seemed to be pretty sure of himself. But from what he said if you use a SDXC card that uses extFAT in a decice that does not support extFAT. It will reformat it with Fat 32 making it a regular SDHC card without the extra advantage of the higher speeds that a SDXC reader that does support extFAT can use.

right, that's what i got out of it too. but the big bonus there is that even with the reformat, the space on that card is still accessible, be it 'just' sdhc speeds. that's ok though, cuz that's what we're used to. i'd really like some of the xda developers to take a look at this and see what they can do.
on a somewhat related note, there's a program i use on my laptop called 'macdrive' which allows me to view previously unrecognized files and partitions which windows doesn't see naturally. this allows me to tri-boot (linux, mac, and windows) and modify each of those partitions from any one of the systems.
point here, is that even if there is initially a problem reading the data on a sdxc card, it seems that problem is only with the software not hardware and therefore can be modified.
if i could program i'd start experimenting myself.

This is very true, and I am in the same boot as you. I wish I had the dev knowledge and skills to start working on something for this, or a real dev could get there hands on this and see what is possible. I guess the only true way to put this to the test is for someone to get there hands on one of these beast of a SD card (64 to 128 gig what ) and stick it in the HD2 to see what it does.

Samsung Focus SD card?

If you believe that it looks like we can add an additional 32 Gig SD card to the Samsung focus prior to initializing it (or at least requiring a hard reset after it is inserted), exactly what is the type of card which we may utilize? Brand and type, or even better, a link to an example would be an ideal answer. TIA.
If this thing really does need to be in the phone before it is set up, or require a hard reset, I may as well have the thing (SD card) in my hot little hand before I walk into an att store and the clerk tries to slip the battery in the phone.

i read that they will be availalbe at att store where you purchase your phone.. may cost more than other places but without knowing what type may have to wait til phone is released..

Expected release date November 8, Carrier AT&T according to Phonearena.

From what I have read, the special part of this is the way the OS creates a RAID to combine internal and external memory. I suspect that a class 6 card will work perfectly.

With it being extra important that the Micro SDHC card doesn't fail; which brands of flash do you people recommend?
I have had a 8GB class 6 Transcend card in my LG Xenon for almost 2 years. Used it in my GPS, and my daughters DSi, and have added countless movies to it. It's been heavily used and hasn't failed. But when I go to buy 16GB the reviews aren't so high on the Transcend.
* I can't find a reference on PhoneArena to the above mentioned Samsung 30nm-class, High-density NAND Flash for Mobile Devices. Were you referring to the phone it's self being released on Nov 8th?

On the AT&T wireless message board there's a posting of an email from Jeff Bradley, AT&T Senior VP of devices, that states it will support a class 2 or higher microSD card.

I've read posts around the net about a Samsung rep stating the MicroSD just under the battery cover would be removable. I'm starting to see that as a possibility.

OK, just got off phone with Samsung tech support, via the phone # above.
She told me that the MicroSD card slot under the battery cover WILL BE REMOVABLE WITHOUT HARD RESET of the phone.
That I can use multiple MicroSD cards with the phone, i.e. adding movies to multiple MicroSD flash drives for a vacation.
AS LONG AS the flash drive is only used in the SGH-i917 Focus and a Computer.
If added to another phone or device it may require reformatting before using in the Focus again.

That is just so contrary to anything and everything we've seen so far that it is hard to credit.
I've already ordered a class 6 16GB card (the Transcend, I hope it fares better than the reviews cited above) but I ordered it for the additional storage, not with any expectation of being able to swap it in and out or use on a computer.
As far as hoping for anything more, it would only be that a class 6 card might perform better than a class 0 or 2 which others in the HD7 forum report are being shipped in the HD7.

Well I doubt the tier one tech support agent knows more then the hands on reviewers online. Based on the comparisons, I think the Focus uses at least class 4 or 6 speed internal memory. Every video and head to head comparison Ive see thinks the Focus is faster the its comp. I did notice updated spec stating 512MB RAM, 1GB Flash Rom (Prior was 1GB ROM), 8GB Flash Storage. I think the Flash ROM is Samsung's Nano Flash chips, the 8GB storage Ive read to be ScanDisk. Does ScanDisk use Samsung flash chips?
A week from today the answers and im sure more questions will start flooding in.

I got the Focus this morning, and I tried a run-of-the-mill class 2 SanDisk 16GB card, and after doing a hard reset, its working like a charm. 22GB of memory for me. Doesn't appear to have degraded my performance, either.

Where do you lookup the available memory? I've inserted a class 4 16GB Lexar card but I don't know where to look to verify the memory.

what's being told to all att employees is that we are not to sell any memory cards with the phone because they're not supposed to work with any of the ones we carry. I've been afraid to put one in mine because of this but if its been working for ya'll idk what to believe now.

Rep at the att store told me this morning that theyre working on an OTA software update to correct this SD card issue, so hopefully it'll be sometime soon.

Has anyone tried using the 16Gb Kingston Class 6 card in the Focus? Results?

My 16GB class 6 card is working great. 22GB of storage.
Go to settings, about and it will tell you have much storage. I had to hit reset phone under that page for it to work.

I installed a 16GB class 6 card in mine this morning and it was working fine, then after reading of a problem after a soft reset I tried it and sure enough, it forgot everything I'd set up and I had to start over.

Ordered my Focus!!! - Micro SDHC Question

I ordered the Samsung Focus with Amazon Wireless for one penny and a two year contract with AT&T! Couldn't be any happier with that.

I did some research and I get the higher the class, the higher the write speeds. Right?

Ill be buying a 16gb card soon enough tho because everytime you change the sd card you have to do a full reset on your phone, so id rather just do it now and get it all over with. So, what im trying to tell you is just get yourself a 16gb card if you going to be adding 720p movies...that way you wont really need to worry about changing the card later. As for the class...class 10 is unnecessary....class 2 has been proven to be VERY sufficient in the focus...even class 4. I had a class 6 and now I have a class 2 and there is NO difference in performance on my focus. Anyways, as for sd cards, be careful because some aren't working properly....I would say your safest bet is buying Sandisk...since thats what Samsung is using in the focus for memory right now.

Well, if I put a 720P movie on there, I'll just delete it once I'm finished watching it. Not going to have more than a few gigs of music too. So 8GB is good for me. Obviously once you put a movie on there you can delete it and get your memory back, correct? Sounds nooby but just double checkin... Lol. The higher the class the faster it gets on the card, right?

i got a sandisk 16g class 4 from radio shack cost about $34, had it in since two weeks before christmas.... loaded it almost full, empted most of it out loaded and unloaded stuff, havn't had any problems so far....... been running strong and just as fast as without the card...

correct...once you delete things you get your space back. I didn't notice much difference in transfer speed between my class 6 and class 2. So if you can, just save yourself the money and get class 4. There was an article I read somewhere that a higher class can actually make performance worse on the phone. Don't know how true it is, but class 2 has been perfect for me. No difference anywhere.

A higher speed class can actually work against you because sometimes the maker sacrifices random operations for speed.
You can either wait for official "windows phone 7 certified" cards or take your chances. Read the first post carefully, especially the most recent posts. I personally have been using a 16gb Samsung card with no problems. Caveat emptor.

like I said before class 2 or 4 and Sandisk would be your safest bet.

After reading the large thread on compatible cards above, it seems the real test is if you've loaded over 8GB of data onto the SDHC card (or over 16GB total in your case) and don't experience any problems. If that's the case then that's awesome (and it also sadly verifies the fact that no one knows which brand of card really works than the Sandisk 8GB Class 2, which is mentioned in the official instruction manual).
To the OP, I've stuck with the 8GB Sandisk. I considered the OEM version for $12 USD available on Amazon but decided against it, and went with the retail packaged version, which I got at Radio Shack for $20 USD. 14 or so GB will be good enough until the official certified ones are announced.

well ill just refer to him as mr arse... but mr arse is partially correct.... mine was stable up to 15gb then after that it went downhill fast.... so give the dude a bit of a break....

Has anyone seen any OFFICIAL announcement that there will be APPROVED cards for WP7. I know that Sandisk tried to pull a fast one and say their's were approved but then pulled them. Is MS even allowing such a program?

Tried the same with my Kingston 8GB SDHC, but WP7 won't be flashed....everything is soooooooooo slow and I have the feeling that the flash process gets stucked...
So, how can i formate this SDHC to be compatible with WP7 ?

Try sdformatter. Then inserted into the phone and do a full reset.

its worth pointing out that there is no "right" SD card that will work, well there is but not using a method other than buy and try.
Even within brands the cards may be different, just because one bloke gets it working doesnt mean you will with yours. I have 2 2GB Sandisk class4 bought on the same day at the same store, identical, one works one doesnt, i hve a 4GB Kingston that wont but the 8GB does.
Its a bit of a lottery im affraid, im sure folk will disagree but from my point of view i wouldnt go spend a fortune on a card that maybe useless, if you dont mind burning money or have another use for it then get whatever but just edge on the side of caution!

try re-formatting your sd card, if problem still happens then it's your sd card and you need a new one.

Even within brands the cards may be different, just because one bloke gets it working doesnt mean you will with yours. I have 2 2GB Sandisk class4 bought on the same day at the same store, identical, one works one doesnt, i hve a 4GB Kingston that wont but the 8GB does.
Its a bit of a lottery im affraid, im sure folk will disagree but from my point of view i wouldnt go spend a fortune on a card that maybe useless, if you dont mind burning money or have another use for it then get whatever but just edge on the side of caution!

You're completely right... there's no guarantee that any particular sd card will work. Manufacturers don't rate the random access speed and they don't keep it consistent. One batch of the same may work while another batch made the next day may not work. Sandisk class 2 and 4 seem to most consistently work... no kingston has worked well for me yet, but 7/8 of the sandisk class 2 and 4 cards I've tried has... the one sandisk card that didn't work well was a 16gb class 2, but I have another 16gb class 2 sandisk with same model number that works great.

i cant find it just now, but there is a list somwhere of all the different types of cards over several brands that some chap managed to get, stacks of data for each card, and its shocking what the companies get up to, it "appears" in somecases, main stream branded cards may infact be cheap rip offs, im not talking dodgy Ebay sales here im talking propper branded cards may infact be rebranded tat. for that reason im happy with the card i have, its slightly smaller than i would like but i dont have another use for a large card so im buggered if im going to folk out for a tiny wee paper weight if it doesnt work.

I bought TEAM SD CARD (CLASS 6) 16 GB ... EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE ... PHONE ABSOLUTELY FLIES ... and I experience 0% restarts 100% compatibility.....

Maybe it will be helpfull for smbd as well. I have a Sandisk 2GB card (which was included when I buy the phone) and it was incompatible several times I flashed Windows Phone 7. But when I formatted it with FAT system (not FAT32), looks like this helped - using now several days without any restarts

And I don't mean for installing a ROM onto (I use NAND builds)--just for storage purposes.
Been looking at upgrading my slow 8GB storage card to a faster and larger one (16 or 32GB), and I can't seem to find what is going to be compatible and what will not. For example, I was going to get a 16GB PNY Class 10 card, but one of the first user review comments was that someone got one for their rooted HTC HD2, and the card would not allow the phone to boot (however, it worked fine with their camera).
I'm not sure if I should go with SanDisk cards or Samsung cards, or PNY, Class 6 maximum, Class 10 maximum, or what have you. Some are on better deals than others, but clearly price is secondary to compatibility.
Is there some sort of a master list of compatible cards that I've missed in my search? Many thanks!!!

in my opinion it would be samsung then sandisk
i currently have a 32gig class 6 sandisk card and it is really good

Thank you. I do respect Samsung a lot, based on personal experience with desktop RAM, but my brief research into Sandisk offerings have returned questionable results: some people say that advertised speeds don't match real transfer speeds.
What about the PNY cards though--I'm still unclear what makes a card compatible or not. Is it down to individual firmware or is there just some basic limits for HTC HD2 Leo (rooted) -- like no UHS cards. In theory, those PNY Class 10 cards seem like they should be okay, but that one review makes me wonder if the user did something incorrectly, or whether there was a true incompatibility.

Been looking at Samsung cards, and they come in a few varieties: regular, "plus", and "pro". The first two are older, I guess, since they are stamped with "class 6" but differ in their speeds.
The "regular" version for up to 24MB/s:

I imagine the regular version is just fine, but would the faster two cards simply not work with HD2? PNY Class 10 cards are better priced, but again, I have no idea if they will work. The manual and phone description simply state that it is SD 2.0 compatible up to 32GB, which doesn't help with my search, since some of those cards appear to not work well (hearsay).
