On my Google maps I would like for the map to be oriented in the direction I'm travelling. (So the map turns while I turn)
So I'm always driving toward the top of the screen. As it is now sometimes it shows me driving sideways or down. It's easy enough to do on my Garmin, but I can't find a setting for this on my Google maps, I'm using a MyTouch3G by the way.
Also one other question. I'm using the new 3.4 version and I noticed when I had the 'Compass' on, the map didn't move while I was driving, and I would drive off the screen till I pressed 'My Location' to recenter the map.
Anyone else notice this?
I turned off the compass, and the map movement returned to normal with the map moving around me, and me centered in the map.
Every time I've used the navigation of Google Maps the map always moves around me so I'm always traveling "forward." Although, I don't believe I've ever had the compass turned on in my maps. If I remember I'll test on the way to work and check back.

Thanks!
But there's two different things. I didn't try navigation today, maybe if I had nav on it would orient the way I like it.
The problem with me driving off the map was just with compass on though.
When I had compass off the map would scroll, keeping me in the center, but the orientation was North always up, I'd rather have 'heading' up even with navigation off.
Ah, I don't believe I've ever had "heading up" outside of nav before. I'll just play with the compass and see what happens haha
Tried it out....here are my results:
Normal map with compass: no "heading up" display, the compass never showed up either, but my map did scroll keeping my location in the center.
Normal map without compass: still no "heading up" display and the map kept my location in the center.
Nav with compass: this was displayed with "heading up" and it also showed a compass with it (of course scrolling with my progress).
Nav without compass: no different than above...still had a compass even.
Adding and removing the compass was done through "Spare Parts" on my phone.

Thanks Sleeve, nice work. I used Nav tonight and had heading up also. Are you using the new 3.4 version? It has 'compass' in it's menu. Doesn't show a compass, just directs the arrow even when you're not moving.
How to bookmark locations?
Well using nav a little more today, and found another question if anyone knows the answer.
I'd like to be able to save locations, like my house, and various addresses. To something like favorites or bookmarks. But can't find any place to do that. I can find locations easily enough with the map or just typing in, but how to save them for future use?

Got it.
Now I ran into something else. A few days ago when I'd search for 'Walmart' it would give me a text list of the nearby walmarts with address and I could pick which one I wanted from the list.
Today it is just giving me red pushpins on the map, not a list. I can still find the one I want by scrolling the map 'IF' I know where to look. How do I get the option for a text list back?
Thanks.
hit the list icon on the lower left corner

Ah, so thats why my little navigation dot wasn't a dot anymore, it was an arrow haha. Either way it kept me in the center at all times.
I finally got a phone mount in my car so I can use my N1 as a GPS. It's great! Except I've noticed one thing. If I use google maps without setting a destination, there's no night mode. It's blindingly bright!
Assuming there's not something stupid I'm overlooking, I made a ticket on code.google.com about this issue. If you'd like to see it implemented, please star it so it gets bumped up in the list of issues.
My Ticket: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6758

Bump - please star to help out. Thanks to those who did!
Uhm...maybe it only activates if you go through the Car app. Not sure tho...
As far as I can tell, night mode only activates if you're in "Navigation mode" (you set a destination - you see the splash screen "Google Navigation Beta", etc.) I want them to add a night mode for the normal GMaps. Star if you want it too.
Ooh...it'll be my first star on any forum! thanks
When I try to access the manage applications option under settings, it shows the spinning icon stating its working and then finally the apps look like they're loaded and when I try to scroll down it is EXTREMELY slow. After scrolling for a couple of seconds, it slows down and then stops. After being frozen for about a minute, I get the infamous black popup stating: process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly...force close. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for it?
Also, I am unable to add quick dial contacts. I can get to the screen where it show 1-9 options with Voicemail alredy being #1, but I long press the number I want to edit and then select the contact to use but when it exits back to the quick dial page the contact I just chose is not there. Am I doing something wrong?
Last thing: I have the extended battery and prior to the GB update, my battery widget was showing 4200-4230 for the mV readings. Now, it is only showing up to 4155. I put the stock battery in to check that and the same thing, it stops at 4155. How can I fix the battery read problem?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.
Is there a possibility to include GPS coordinates to A500 photos (during shot) ? Although GPS is locked, built-in application does not include gps coordinates to jpg exif. Is there some option to enable it ? There are some GPS tags in exif, but gps latitude and longitude is missing. Should I use different app to make photos with GPS coordinates ?
I'm guessing you just watched the news on t.v. or seen it on the internet. And seen where all the people was tracking peoples personal photos then?
Mine works fine if you have the option enabled in settings. "Location and Settings" and use GPS satellites. When you switch to the camera you will see the little compass and it blinking.
I don't know what TV news do you mean. Recently I've upgraded my phone HTC Tattoo to CyanogenMod 7.1.0.1 and the built-in Camera application now includes GPS coordinates every time I make a photo (of course with activated GPS module.) That's why I tried the same with my A500.
Whenever I activate GPS and start Google Maps, GPS icon is bliking. It's OK. But when I start Camera application, GPS icon disappear. Why ?
After you have turned on gps satellite, start camera app and touch the wrench icon and then turn on store location. You should see a blinking compass icon in notification area
I use czech user interface and this option is bad translated ! There is something like "Repository" instead of "Store Location". I turned it on and compass icon starts blinking in notification area and after shot GPS coordinates are included in exif now. Thank you !

Glad to be of help.
Recently, all of my google search results default to presenting in "tablet view" mode. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but when I'm in that view, it's very difficult to click on links. I have to press 4 or 5 times to finally trigger it. Other pages don't present this issue, and "classic view" on google.com works fine - but I can't get it to stay in that mode. It switches back to tablet view automatically.
Anyone else having this issues? Any hints on how to get it to work, or how to force it to stay in "classic" mode?
