so im thinking of trading my blackberry storm for a g1 but i don't want to get a data plan. i had a g1 when they first came out i hated having to have a what can i do i can flash rom but im kind of new to it im currently on my htc fuze any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
Search will give you the information you need. I believe there's a way to bypass the initial sign in so that you can root then install a custom ROM... but afaik, T-mobile will require you to get a data plan and pester you till you do. I do think that with a custom ROM you can do the initial sign in via wifi...

You only need to sign in on the first boot after a wipe, and only if you have a carrier-customized build. Builds based on ADP1 (or any other engineering build) have a "Skip sign in" option. Then you can enter, set up your wifi and then sign in from there.
thanks dont really understand ill figure it out i mostly catch on quick

thanks whats up with the hero roms
Just an FYI...you should get an unlock code now for your phone before ATT takes over....ATT sometimes is a pain in the a$$ just to get a code...
You know, T-Mobile would have to unlock the phone before we awitch to AT&T. So we'll all have an unlocked phone by the time they merge, IF they merge.

Isn't the unlock code in the phone itself?

Could be wrong, but I think they "fixed" this in one of the OTA updates?
No, it never got fixed. An app on the market called SGS unlock, that basically does the unlock code for you.
You can unlock your phone with this simple aplication called SGS Unlock
If you have Eclair use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=554631&stc=1&d=1301355001
If you have FroYo use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=554632&stc=1&d=1301355001
Good luck

Well if you know how to use odin then downgrade to stock 2.1 then unlock your phone and then your phone is unlocked then flash whatever rom you want.

Thanks mate for the apk.

Still does not work.
It says no codes found
unknown error
At this point it seems that once flashing this you may not be able to revert to a lower firmware without unlocking your BL! This build also may not receive OTAs. So in summary flashing this may cripple your ability to OTA!
URGENT!! Flashing any SBF 1.8.3, 1.5.7, or 1.2.6 using RSD after updating via this method results in permabrick!

No need for this thread anymore Samcripp has put together way better instructions and is receiving way more traffic please use his thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1159950
1. Flash 1.8.3 SBF
2. Download file rename update.zip
3. Place file in root of your EXTERNAL SDCARD
4. Reboot into stock recovery and apply update.zip
File is here...
This has been decided to be causing to much damage so the file has been removed. Thread can remain open for support though.

There are still some people out there that have not unlocked their bootloaders, this is for those people.
You linked to "Blur_Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US.zip". This is 1.83... not gingerbread.
If it is GB, why the file name is 4.1.8.3?

Lol! The thread title means "Gingerbread, for AT&T Atrix phones with locked bootloader" and not "Gingerbread with locked bootloader for AT&T Atrix phones"

How stable is it? What works and what doesn't? Does it have the new Blur? Does the blur work?
Otherwise, thanks for the find. If it's stable - I will try it.

Hmmm so is this the official leaked AT&T GB update?
GB 2.3.4 looks amazing .My fingerprint scanner is not working. Not sure if its because of the update because it was not very responsive since the last couple of days. Gtalk is working with FFC !!

cm7 no, and that'll never happen. Any custom rom that requires a different kernel will not work on a locked bootloader. That being said, there are some roms that will work on locked bootloaders but are few and far between. I'd suggest using the search button
Quit being a wimp and unlock your bootloader. You won't regret it.

Haha, lets try not to call anyone a wimp!
The best rom on a locked bootloader currently has the be Gin2JellyBean. It should be on the first page on the development section.
I want to unlock it but I dont have a credit card to use omnius

Yea but that only works if it came from the factory as being able to unlock it, you need to check in your service menu if it says bootloader unlock allowed: yes, if it says no then its pay only

Wait,I'm using that ROM and my bootloader is unlocked, so what's the best for me?
So my problem is this, everytime I try to change roms my phone doesn't recognize my Google account as being the only account I've ever registered my phone with. Has anyone ran into this and if so what can I do to fix it? I'm S-OFF and UNLOCKED running leedroid and am on the latest TWRP.
