Are you dumb? It's been released already in the UK, they have basically given release dates for the US and US versions are starting to pop up on ebay.

Like I said - SPITE! I hate a company like that jerking me around. The last time I asked a rep about it (last week), they acted like they didn't know what a Streak was and asked me for a webpage on it. I gave the guy the webpage on Dell's site and he said "oh...we don't have a release date". F'ing assholes.

Haha indeed Dell support acts like they do not know what you are talking about. Then state they have no information. Dell also does not even have an information page for the product other than the press release and 1 blog post (which they never respond to comments).
I too am completely furious about their approach to getting the Streak in the hands of their customers (other than the UK). I personally believe they are tied down with partners (like AT&T and O2) restricting them to just do whatever they wanted and release it. They have confirmed at the D8 that it will release in the US in July. Almost there...
Also, this is all new territory for Dell. Overall the Streak is a beauty and for that, I could care less who made it. I just want one!
jezz ease up. If engadget hadn't managed to find the mini 5 prototype in Asia you wouldn't have known about it for so long. Whats wrong with developing your first piece of hardware in the mobile marketplace so its good and can get help get market share. I mean would you want them to launch a device that is buggy and has issues, I think not.
They have been pretty clear for the last little while on dates and launch details, more clear than some of HTC or Moto launches as of late. Go get your HD2 and enjoy some year old WinMo if thats what you really want.
I'm tired of waiting around to find out whether or not this thing will work on T-mobile. Yeah, I know about the FCC filings for the t-mobile band version but who knows if that even was manufactured.

I hope you're right dude. I had a Touch Pro that had a digitizer failure so now I'm forced back to my 8125 Talk about TORTURE! I was going to just buy another Touch Pro or similar but hate to spend the $$ when the Streak "may" be coming out here in July. I've been drroling over the Streak for a long time, but I REALLY hate Dell's PR and handling of the release of it. That's where Apple has a real edge over other MFR's, they keep the lid on it so people don't get pissed waiting on their products. Michael Dell was smiling like a fool several times over the last 6 months with a Streak as if to say "ha, ha MF's! I have one and you don't!" Makes me want to say "suck it, asshole! I'll take my $$ elsewhere."
Hi guys,
It's worth the wait.
I have had loads of HTC's, last one being my HD2 in February.
I got the Dell Streak yesterday and I thinks its better than any of the HTC's I have had before inc the HD2.
This is mainly due to the Android OS and the marketplace download facility which is way better support than any windows based apps download, or in fact is there any?
I have installed loads of aditional apps, all free and am having lots of fun just as an iphone user would, with ease of use , but all my apps have been free, think I said that but it should be repeated.
I am very gratefull to the XDA team in supporting this device via this forum but the next major step up will be 2.2 hopefully in September.
My brief summary is its not too big but definately bigger that the HD2. The screen of the Dell is actually the size of the outer dimensions of the HD2.
The OS is much better and seems to be a more intuative device all round.
Ther is even an XDA app which saves having to go via the browser and is also very good but for some reason will not accept my login. Very easy to use.
So just wait and don't dive into a HD2 pit even though I love that as well.

Hey John,
What you say is true. This device's software is great, and has a lot of apps backing it up. However, that's solely because of the Android OS. Tell me, is it worth having a 5inch screen for a phone? Wasn't the HD2's 4.3 inch big enough?
HTC also has excellent Android phones that are backed by the same software as the Deal Streak, same goes for Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
On a personal note, I don't see this phone getting as much support as the N1, Desire, or even the X10. Whether from the manufacturer or us, the community . So It all comes down to that, doesn't it---as well as the aesthetics and dimensions of the Streak as well.
I don't see the Streak going far in it's life time.

Two things on this:
1.6 Really? After having 2.2 on my Sexy Nexy, not sure I want to go back down...
And I played with an EVO and an HD2 last night. 4.3 is pretty big. I'm really re-thinking the 5 inch screen...but damn, it's 5 inches! This is the biggest love/hate I have ever had. Ugh.

Hate to say it, but I agree. I'm not sure Dell will roll out releases in a timely manner (I mean come on, this thing is shipping with 1.6???). And I don't see it being a huge success at 5", so I don't think there will be as large of a community offering support.

Hi Guys,
I am not agest but I am 56 and my eysight is therfore going south.
I cannot see any mobile screen without the assistance of reading glasses.
So for me the larger the better. Having said that I think going above 5" may be impractical for a phone. I have not tried it with a bluetooth hedset yet. I have one in the attick somewhere that I have been trying to flog on car boots for 3 yrs.
The streak does go in my jeans pocket as is but I am now looking round for a decent cover that will protect but not add too much to the dimensions. That may be hard.
I have found the streak better than the HD2 in several ways.
First the additional size does help with browsing and able to fit in lots of screen shortcuts for apps/widgets etc.
It does seems faster all round.
Apps install in the native 2gb memory leaving the sd card all for myself. On the HD2 I was installing as many apps onto the SD as would work.
Some of the above is due to android yes
I am patient enough to wait for the 1.6 to 2.2 upgrade and I think Dell will come through as they have a vested interest in getting the 5" working and selling itself before bringing out 7" and 10" versions.
I am new to android but maybe Dell wanted a tried and tested version as their first tablet before going for say v2.1. I dare say thier development team is fairly new.
Android 3 looks good but may not be available on our phones until xmas 2010.
I think there is definately a market for bigger phones if only for chaps of a certain age who are still techies.
The HD2 may well have a larger market but so has the iphone and there are more reasons I don't want one of them then I can discuss here. Apps are a doddle to install on Android compared witrh any windows phone.
I would like to see manila on the Dell but that will never happen as its HTC property. The Android 3 version seems to be offering a decent GUI though.
WOOT WOOT!!!!
I do not care what anyone says. I want a Dell Streak and I want it bad! I just hope this bad boy has some decent gpu performance.
Thanks [email protected] orange didn't get hold of this! All I can say. Selling my TG01 to buy myself out of my 'we sell you a mobile even though there's little or no coverage in your area by our so called vast Orange network' contract.

O2 ftw.
Gave up!
Tired of waiting on Dell to pull their heads out. I was giving them until today to release and they let me down after 7 months of hype. I'm going with the Galaxy S on the 18th, F**K DELL!

Agreed
Glimmer of hope???
Per BGR: We have heard from an AT&T source that the Dell Streak is launching on July 19th on AT&T...
- Can't post a link since I'm a 'new member'... just google news it...
I bounced through Dell sales chats a few days ago and finally was told by someone in the Electronics and Accessories dept. that it will be available on their website on 7/16/2010. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen.
Either way, maybe one of the other phones might be better for me (like the Samsung Captivate/Galaxy S series), since it still has a pretty big screen without all the heft of the Streak. Also, the Captivate may receive wider market acceptance and more software support from Samsung as well as developers (at least AT&T and other carriers are promoting this device, which is more than Dell is doing right now).
Johnny,
I am like you old as dirt, and the bigger the better. plus the browsing experience is better when bigger.
I wanted a Huewai S7 which is 7", but not available till the end of July.
Android OS rocks over the HD2 win crap. this is the last win phone I am going to have, selling my HD2 to my son....
Dell has really done a dirty deed to us all, but it should be worth waiting.
Please dont make the mistake of buying the samsung galaxy s, its a pile of s**t, trust me i had 1, just to many problems and samsungs UI is so slow, that it lags like hell, i now have a dell streak and i couldent be happier

that's a shame
It really is a shame. I hope they surprise us and lower the price. $125 for the hardware and another $100 when they ship it with FROYO. Captivate is strong competition. Marketing mistake.
They won't lower the price Dell know they will sell thousands as there is nothing much like this out there, give it 6 months or so and there will be a lot of other Tablets out there, then they might lower the price.

If it only has 2.1 on it in six months (IPad w/GSM will be there too) they will not be able to give it away.

http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/productFeatures.do?pinfoId=2586&directoryId=3895&treeId=3290
It does everything the Streak does, just with not such a BIG backer.
Any thoughts.?
I think it will come out of the box with 1.6 but I really wouldn't be surprised to see a day 1 PTA update to 2.2.
terrible. why would they ship one of the best phones available with 1.6. they may have just lost my pre-order.
edit: also the non-standard charger is quite annoying
yup - i must confess - i hope someone at dell is reading this....ive got one, its new, ive had windows phones for the last few years, last one being a HD2 so this is a bit of a leap for me. So, its new so the change in os is keeping me interested, but, i can see why everyone is wanting at least 2.2, if dell dont provide at least that as an upgrade i might stick mine up for sale....other half has a droid on 2.1 and as i say i can hang out for the moment as its new hardware and new software (to me) but i wont be long before i need the latest and greatest...
They should at least post something saying where theyre currently at instead of going silent. then we at least know where we stand.
with all the reviews that are starting to come in I'm really thinking of waiting for the next batch of smart phones. I really would like the Streak but I smell a Nexus One type of marketing ....

Right On! It's one thing to keep the competition from discovering all the breakthrough features of your new product, quite another to be concealing (apparently) that it is a "legacy" device that is twice as expensive as need be. Who even knows if it is upgradeable at all?
Apparently from the horses mouth "some Dell bloke on twitter" it is "Gingerbread" ready....which does fit with the hardware requirements of said, gingerbread...

Internally yes the Streak is Gingerbread ready but with their custom UI they have made for the device that holds it back. If Ginger bread comes out in Dec like the rumors say then; with upgrading and testing it would be around June before Streak got Ginger bread. With all the rumored changes in Ginger bread whos to say that Dell says no. It seems the purpose of Ginger bread is to stop manufacturers to stop putting skins on top of Android.
There is a great article below about skinning problem.
http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/07/hey-manufacturers-leave-android-alone/
tbh I wouldn't sweat that it doesn't come with 2.2 out of the box.
1.6 has some minor issues, but they are minor.. and dell have tweaked some of the os to give 2.2 alike features.
we all know that if this phone becomes popular then the Devs will get their hands on the device and we won't have to worry about anything.

I'm letting Dell know by not buying their product. What kind of company makes the phone for Tmo, cancels that, then makes it for ATT, begins selling unlocked versions yet still limits Tmo to edge. All the while making functioning ones for Cin. Bell. F Dell.
Samsung Hercules is worth the wait at this point.

Your totally right.... Just makes me mad that these companies release hardware and only support the users for a brief period of time. Google needs to lay down some mega rules on the use of android and force the OEM's to support the product for a period of 4 years or more..
Yeah right, also bankers should accept responsibility for screwing us over and politicians should all be honest!
Dell (and every other company, anywhere, ever) are not in business to create good products and waste resources supporting them. They are in business to take joe publics' money to make profit for their shareholders - end of story.
You get the same sob stories from owners of Dell, Samsung, Sony, HTC, Nokia - oh they made me buy this phone that does everything they said it would but now they won't give me any upgrades for free, so now if I want a faster bigger/smaller phone that can make the toast in the morning I have to buy a new one - moan moan.
Ok, Dell takes a phone from Android 1.6 to 2.2 (for AT&T users that would be baseband 353), they clearly publish the specifications (call T-mobile like I did before purchasing and ask them does this work on your 3g network, guess what? They will tell you no it doesn’t will only work on edge) and as long as you have an actual warranty repair they fix it. So how did they screw us?
Also did they get $576 per phone from you? They did from me, bought two of them, one me and one for the wife. We have zero complaints, she uses stock and I use DJ-Steve's custom ROMs. Quit your pissing and moaning and be happy that when you took it out of the box it worked, much better than a lot other things I have bought over my life time.
we have been promised so much by dells CTO and by the head of the linux team to help out with development for the device, lots of pretty talk about community taking over support for future builds etc etc.
all to nothing.
they have even removed the source code for the alpha build for gingerbread from opensource.dell.com
EEJITS
@Fards, ok you got me there, thought the wall was starting to come down, but I guess not. Actually gives them black eye as you, Steve and host of others saved the Streak. You would have figured for all the goodness you have done, they would have wanted to keep you guys happy. Well there is always the Samsung Galaxy S II, know Steve doesn’t like Samsung, but at least it is better than anything apple makes (lesser of two evils).
I guess you are partially right, but don't forget about stock rom full of uninstalable bloatware and extra-slow Dell Stage UI.
We are not asking for another update of stock rom, we are just asking for drivers. But from what I heard, they already released some drivers for Streak: http://opensource.dell.com/releases/streak/
But drivers for audio is missing and Dell is saying they can't release it because they are not owners of the drivers (but then who is?).
Edit: and I want to point out another thing - I guess it will be ok if we can buy updates for our device. For example, if HC 3.2 will have support for tablets with smaller screens (and it should have), I perfectly ok with paying for this update. I understand, that implementing of new update is not easy and for me, it will be still cheaper than buying new device (not to mention there is not another device like Dell Streak).
I doubt there will be any updates since Streak 5 and 7 are getting build anymore and there are no planed successors for Streak 5 and 7 at the moment. Streak Pro will be launched in the US only sometime later this year.
source: someone from inside dell
Once again let's not forget all the issues related to the screen.Gorilla screen sounds pretty damn good, but what about what is underneath?.
I wish they'd at least release drivers so our amazing devs can continue to improve upon this great piece of hardware.. With that said, I really doubt we will see anymore support from Dell, they've seemed to pretty much moved on from the Streak 5

I don't understand what you guys are expecting...
HTC and Motorola just make mobile devices and accessories. They must be more open and provide bleeding edge just to stay in business.
Dell, HP, Sony, etc.... Have hundreds of other products that they make as part of their business model. They don't need mobility to survive.
releasing a device with 1.6... 2.0...2.1...2.2...2.2.2.. seems like alot of updates to me.especially since it wasn't shipped crippled in anyway like samsung.

It's been said that the best complaint letters are ones that clearly spell out what the writer wants the company to do for them to fix the problem. The OP hasn't provided a very good complaint letter, just a brief rant. But this is to be expected when people have unrealistic expectations.
The OP's comments can be broken down into the following three things:
1. Openness
2. Firmware support
3. A request to not abandon Streak users.
I haven't posted to this thread until now, despite wanting to reply to the OP earlier. However I think the expectations of the OP are unrealistic. The harsh reality is that the Streak's time in the sun has passed and it's rapidly heading towards sunset. If I were in Dell's shoes, none of this would deserve more than a cursory response, mostly because of the points you have already made, especially in regards to firmware support. The other two things? Well the first is so nebulous as to be unanswerable, and the second would be given a boilerplate response regarding where to find information on the Streak.
While I would love to see Honeycomb, or even better, Ice Cream Sandwich on a Streak 5, if I don't get it I'm not going to complain. I'm perfectly happy using 2.2.2.

I totally agree the streak works amazingly well as it is, what exactly does gingerbread, honeycomb bring to the streak that you can't already do in froyo? I would prefer dell concentrate on new devices that I can buy when I've had my streak for a year, and I ready for a new 5 inch device.
For the four of you who might actually care T-Mobile has officially discontinued the Dell Streak 7 tablet and Dell Mini 10 HSPA+ capable netbook. The Dell Streak 7 was introduced back in January during CES and was quickly overshadowed by the upcoming G-Slate. Met with mixed reviews the Streak never took off as T-Mobile’s first 4G tablet and the Dell Mini 10 appealed to the Netbook loving crowd who unfortunately got tempted by the sudden rise of tablets. In any case both devices have met their inevitable end on T-Mobile and we bid them farewell. They are gone and mostly already forgotten.
SOURCE: http://www.tmonews.com/2011/07/dell-streak-and-dell-mini-discontinued/
Dell really needs to step their game up. Can't they see that their customers aren't happy with their products?
Actually as a Dell customer I am very happy with my Dell products. I accept that they have some flaws though.
The Streak 7 needed a better screen and advertisement.
The Streak 5 needed to open with 2.2 and advertisment.
Both devices could have been really big wins for Dell, but Dell squandered the hype generated around the initial launches with poor communication to the buying public.
Well on that note I love my dell streak but seems that in the real world dell products ain't doing to well. For T-Mobile to drop dell is a pretty big thing.

Correct. Problem is Dell sucks at advertising....
The Dell Streak 5 would of sold a hell of a lot more if it was ADVERTISED!!!
I'm surprised at the amount of people who have never heard of it.
Infact EVERYONE I know have never even heard of it....
When friends, colleagues at work & even strangers see my Streak, they ask:
1 - What is that? Is that a laptop?
2 - Is it Dell? I never knew dell make phones
3 - Is it Lg or Samsung?
4 - Is it a large tablet?
5 - Is it Apple ipad?
Truth is Dell sucks at design, advertising, build quality and customer support
If I wasn't into hacking/modding I would hate the streak. If I didn't know about things such as launcher pro or other aftermarket launchers I would hate the streak because stage is so buggy and limited. Besides the few hundred streak owners who visit xda and other forums, I'm sure anyone else who bought the streak was probably displeased. Dell is in trouble if they can't up their quality, updates, etc. otherwise they'll never catch on in the mobile world.

It isn't necessary to do a lot of hacking/modding to get a very enjoyable device out of the Streak. Replacing the Stage home app would do it for most people. Rooting and getting rid of the unnecessary stuff would be the nest thing I would do (especially if on an AT&T locked device).
We have owned five Android phones (seven if you count my brief defetion to US Cellular) and my wife's current HTC Inspire is the only one that I haven't needed to tweak. BTW - the Inspire is still running Android 2.1, so Dell has updated the Streak to a later version of Android than what is arguably the best Android device that AT&T currently sells has. I don't see the reason for the complaints about the lack of updates. Of course I did not buy the Streak when it shipped with 1.6, so I didn't have that 6-7 month wait for the first updates to roll out.
I also think that the build quality of the Streak stands up to other phones I have owned or tried out.
My Streak came, carrier unlocked, with Android 2.2 and with the updates that Dell has put out it would be a very good device even with no tweaking. Like many - one of the reasons I like Android is that I can tweak/customize my phone easily.
Good point, Marvin...... My Streak is also factory-unlocked with factory-installed Froyo.... only thing I've done to it was to immediately delete Dell's "Stage" widgets and install "Launcher Pro" (to increase the number of shortcuts on home pages)... and I'm VERY pleased with my non-rooted Streak..
I've two horrifying experiences with "rooted" phones (both phones would eat through a fully-charged battery in less than 3-hours)..... and all for what, a millisecond faster response time? Frankly I just don't see the point, especially if it's your primary, high-investment-dollar phone (but I do have fun swapping ROMS on an old "backup" HD2 I have) LOL

it isn't necessary to do a lot of hacking/modding to get a very enjoyable device out of the streak.
In the case of our unit, don't you actually have to market the damn thing if you want Android to meet your expectations?
Dell has yet to market ANY of it's mobile devices,
strangely though the venue pro is doing a lot better then the venue, even though the venue pro had a really hard start in life.
It might be the largest userbase behind the s5, though granted the wp7 market has a lot less devices overall so it's not as diffucult to not be flooded by millions of devices unlike on android
I gave up waiting for 2.2, I gave up completely for 2.3, I gave up on the update to the streak, I'm GIVING UP on Dell. Samsung note will be my next device when it hits the states.
I think Dell was trying to sell its mobile phones using the same sales model they used when selling PCs. They didn't take into account the many, many more variables that affect mobile phone purchases (carrier first, then platform, then leading edge hardware). They, I think, wrongly assumed, "People are buying alot of Android phones, and since we're Dell, if we make them, people will buy them". Let Dell go back to Microsoft.... I mean they've been in bed together for decades..... Mr. Dell just is reluctant to admit fault.... "We're Dell..... no one is buying our phones so it MUST be Android's fault" LOL

It would help if they actually followed the development cycle and released the updates, where is 2.3.3, 2.3.4 and so on?
A device stuck with a older version of the OS is always going to be less popular.

Yeah, thats exactly it
There is this saying don't hate the player, hate the game. I think. But in this case , its the other way around Yeah, people that cant admit there made a mistake, not updating the software, or at least doing some market hype.
It seems like Dell isn't very appealing because of the style, and its openness to software. Plus , back then Android wasn't that popular that you can could sell a heavy 5" phone, But now days with the right specs, you just watch ...
In short, they are too lazy, There going for the surely win route, I think. Thats why they are going for the Win8 tablet.
Dell must have new PR manager
if dell stepped up the hardware, maybe some IPS, super AMOLED+, 8+MP cam anyone? make Streak 7 a bit thinner.. release with stock Android and get updates out on time, and maybe unlock bootloaders, etc. oh yeah and advertise!! They could be moving units.. Streak 7 likely last piece of anything Dell I own for a good long time..
One thing I will say, however, is my cousin has the Dell WindowsPhone "Venue Pro".... and that phone is truly a THING OF BEAUTY (no kiddin). I've read on more than one reputable site that it may in fact be "the best WindowsPhone available" (believe it or not). Not only is it extremely well-made, but it feels like you could drive nails with it and not hurt it. Such a shame it's running that G-damned lame-as-**** Windows OS.

Personally I will never buy another windows phone. Was very glad of the android transition to revert, even if windows "finally" did something about their quirky, sticky, freezing between processing and my alltime fav "random non-response touchscreen moments".
But Dell F'd up once with bad promo and had monkies doing their PR. Dell f'd a secomd time making the announcement about. "Dell has pulled the streak from its current inventory ...stay tuned for a special announcement.." Leaving us to believe our trusty ole Streaks were called in for some "innerds overhaul" only to hear that its been pulled from the U.S. market.
Dell f'd a third time releasing a DELL STREAK PRO, much smaller screen and device, looks like a cookie-cut replicate of most other phones, lost all its streak5 features.
I am looking for info on how to get my hands on the ViewSonic tab/phone.
Time to put ole Dell out to third-world pastures
Personally my opinion is not one to count on Dell's conscious but here it goes, first of all they didn't even make the product they just slapped their name on it and try to get as many sales as they could two once their product crashed on 2.2 faster than an angry bird into a wall they knew if they didn't pull it they would get a bad name and three dell doesn't care about their customer cause if they did they would admit to making a bad product and see how they can go ahead and fix their problem extend warranties on bad units, fix 2.2 issues an apology for stealing your money oh wait it's not stealing it's business. Okay well from now on Samsung has my business and I will steal from Dell by letting one know everytime they see my Streak "what the hack is that thing" saying the worst investment you can ever make"
@Chamo4u2: Dell's conscience and the fact they only put their name on the Streak aside, I'd like to find out where you get this impression they pulled the Streak because of crashes. Now I've owned a Streak since April. It came with 2.2.2 347 preinstalled. In that time frame I've upgraded the ROM to 351 and 360, after having to reinstall 347 twice due to mistakes I made in tweaking the ROM for my tastes. At no time have I encountered force close issues, thus I don't believe their ROMs are the problem. Since my experience flatly contradicts yours, what is different about your Streak compared to mine?
The Streak was discontinued in the original countries where it was released. Dell has released the Streak in Asian countries this year, meaning for those countries the Streak is new. If the Streak were pulled because of software problems, Dell would not have released it in Asia. Thus your statement that the Streak was pulled due to crashes is demonstrably false.
The Streak is actually a decent device that was saddled with poor marketing decisions made by Dell. Of course this assumes that the Streak was actually marketed, when we know it wasn't. Had Dell put any effort into promoting the Streak in television commercials, had put Streaks in AT&T stores, and had actually sold the device with 2.1 from the start instead of 1.6 we likely would not be having this discussion.
Despite the lack of marketing and despite Michael Dell's comments, apparently Dell does still care about the consumers. As most people reading this forum know, Dell released the sources to a Gingerbread kernel. According to DJ Steve those sources have been in his possession for over a week now. With Dell releasing the kernel, can official Gingerbread ROMs be far behind?
P.S. You've got to work a bit on the punctuation buddy. I almost ignored your post because I had so much difficulty reading it.

i hope so ive got my streak till march (wifes 18 month contract) & i would like my phone to end its days with gingerbread
I'm with Strephon...... I've had my factory-installed Froyo Streak since last April and it's been one of the most stable Android phones I've ever owned (seriously).... And I've owned EVERY T-Mobile Android phone available (MyTouch Slide, MyTouch 4G, Nexus, G2, LG G2x). I blame the US Streak's downfall on non-existent marketing and offering it carrier-subsidized only on aTnT. Up until they lost iCrap exclusivity, they would actually try and talk new customers out of buying anything Android (I witnessed this myself).....

I experienced that firsthand, and got so pissed I left the store. If there is one thing I cannot stand it's being lied to, and the AT&T "salesperson" did exactly that in trying to dissuade me from going with Android.
Pledging support for Microsoft and Windows 8,
That's the key phrase there, it means they've done a deal with M$ and knocking Android is a way of passing the buck for their past failure on to Google.

How are you a senior member? Did you seriously just ask what the difference between 1.6 and 2.2 is?
