Pretty cool. That would be nice for websites that make use of mouse over (hover) functionality, at the very least. I wonder if it is specific to the keyboard / mouse in the video or would most mice work just as well?

How does this setup work with Xtralogic's RDP Client??

almost any bluetooth mouse and Keyboard should work fine.

The US version of the Tab does not allow connecting with a BT keyboard or mouse. Pairing works fine, it recognizes the keyboard & mouse as a keyboard and a mouse, but connection simply fails. Other Tab owners in the US have had the same problem. Ah, yes. Land of the free.
BTW, my firmware build number is DJ11, but on the pdadb.net site I see that the latest is DJ30. Under 'System updates' my Tab claims that it is up to date.
Any advice? Other than moving overseas? Maybe rooting & flashing new firmware?

DJ30 is for the Sprint version.
Flashing with European firmware will make this availalbe on your Tab.

I have t-mobile Galaxy Tab that I got from the day 1... and today, I was very disappointed with the fact that I can not get the Bt keyboard working with usa version.
Why all usa versions are crippled with no voice + now no BT keyboard...
Please... I do not want to return this cool tab, but I really want to use it with
the BT keyboard so that it can replace the netbook completely...( i got nice heavy performance labtop... already..)
I can bear with no voice.. but can some1 come with the solution for the BT keyboard pairing?

How did u pair ur apple keyboard to tmobile tab?
I tried to pair, but I couldn't ...
It says 'type xxxxxxx to pair', but there is no window where I can type those numbers...
when I tried to pair with my galaxy s, I could type in the numbers, but it still dint connect...
I searched everywhere, and it seems all tab pairing with bt keyboards are from other countries, not us..
Any help?

I have found that if you simply type those numbers on the BT keyboard and then press Enter, the Tab will seem to acknowledge that it is proceeding with the connection: the 'type xxxxx to pair' message disappears the instant you hit Enter. However, that's where it stops. It does not actually connect to the keyboard. It's one thing to share phone numbers with someone, it's another thing to get that person to answer your call.
I think Samsung wants to see how well their keyboard dock sells before enabling this feature (I *hope*) in a future release of Android for the Tab. Don't lose hope yet! If this were an el-cheapo Android tablet, then I'd say there's probably no hope for it. But Samsung has put a lot of resources into this tablet, so there will be a lot of development (and hacking) for it. And a lot of users who spent a lot of money are very pissed off, even returning the tablets back to the store. That's good, let Samsung know you're angry!
Meanwhile, I have just received in the mail a Bluetooth developer's book. I will see what I can determine about the internals of BT on the Tab: I know the full BT stack is there because I did use it to transfer files with my Mac. I was also able to write an Android app that paired my HTC Incredible (which also prohibits connecting with a KB & mouse) with my BT mouse, but I didn't go as far as to connect and read mouse movements. Pairing is easy, connecting is the question. I'll try the keyboard next.

On the VZW Tab, I have been able to pair a keyboard, but not get it to connect either.
I tried the latest version of BlueInput off of the Teksoft, but it does the same thing - pairs, bur won't connect. (There's an earlier demo version in the market). I also tried KeyPro from the market (also demo), but it doesn't seem to recognize the keyboard I'm trying to use (gearxs bluetooth mini keyboard - it appears to be sold under other names - it came with a CD with Android drivers, but it pairs, but won't connect).

I have the T-Mobile US version and I can now also confirm it working for both mouse and keyboard. I bought a logitech revolution 5500 combo at best buy and they both paired without a hitch. Simply awesome I must say. Tab recognized them independently by name. When asked for pin for pairing the keyboard I entered it on the keyboard itself and then was connected upon hitting enter.

Ok, great! That's encouraging. So it looks like Verizon may be the culprit and not Samsung. I'm now considering taking a trip to BestBuy to see if I can trade my Verizon Tab for a different one, I think a Sprint model was available. I'll test it with a BT keyboard & mouse before I bring it home.
[edit] Were it not for a $90 restocking fee and an assurance from Sprint customer support that the Sprint model of the Tab does not support the HID Bluetooth profile, I might have traded my Verizon model for a Sprint model. Contrary to what the Sprint customer support person said, in the store I was able to get the Sprint model to *attempt* to connect to my Bluetooth mouse (which I brought with me). There was a menu option on the Sprint model that let me view Bluetooth connection options, allowing me to use the mouse as a HID device. I believe that the problem was an incompatibility with the mouse itself. This menu option is utterly absent on my Verizon model. Next time I go back I'll try bringing my Apple keyboard (the BestBuy I went to didn't have a Bluetooth keyboard in the whole building).

Ditto....works just fine for me on my stock t-mobile tab...

I'm not sure about BT keyboards but the kb-dock sold by Carphone Warehouse UK seems to be the Samsung keyboard and it looks pretty cool and holds the tab upright at a slight angle for visibility. Been sold at nearly £40. I'm thinking of getting it because it will save battery and can also plug the charger and headphone while docked. I don't have any bt keyboard anyway and that feels just right.

On the other hand Im able to use my Motorola BT S9 head set as headphones and make Unlocked Skype 3g calls no problem.

mini bt keyboard for a500

I'd actually prefer to get a mini keyboard. I don't plan on using this as a primary pc, but when the need is there I'd like to have a keyboard that's extremely portable. The Targus BT keyboard was promising, but it's just too big.

Based on your experience and I post I grabbed one of those keyboards today. It works a treat. It also pairs happily with my Nexus 1 running Cyanogen 6 which was an unexpected bonus.

Using a keyboard with A500

I've been reading that alot of people have been using regular keyboards on the A500. What I don't know is how there doing it...I haven't had a chance to try it yet myself so I don't even know if it would work.

Ahhh USB PORT/BLUETOOTH
Just plug the keyboard/mouse into the port or its sensor if its wireless
if its Bluetooth go into settings network bluetooth and connect the device
same as on a Desktop computer...

Works pretty well too. I think there can be a key or two that it doesn't always recognize correctly, but may just depend on the keyboard. You can get a usb splitter for a couple of bucks and then hook up a keyboard and mouse together. Or use a wireless keyboard/mouse combo...or use a keyboard that has usb ports...so many options. You can use it to then rdp to another machine or ssh whatever...type emails/browse, etc.

If you have a usb keyboard lying around plug it into the usb port on your tablet and give it a whirl. I've used a wireless keyboard/mouse combo and it worked like a charm. I ended up getting the bluetooth acer iconia keyboard though because it has special android keys on it. This shows how untrained the reps at Best Buy are. I had one tell me you needed Ice Cream Sandwhich OS in order for any keyboard to work. I just plugged in some basic keyboard I had lying around and it worked like a charm. It's really big though compared to the tablet. Haha who isn't a fan of Mythbusters?
Keep in mind though that with a regular keyboard some of the buttons won't work. Android keyboards have some special function keys that make running an tablet nicer. Things like home keys and back buttons and quick access buttons to the menu, mail etc. I tried to get a cheap keyboard and mouse combo before for it, but ended up switching to the acer bluetooth keyboard due to the functions and portability. Plus with a bluetooth keyboard is still have my usb port open for a wireless mouse if need be

You can also use many USB hard drives as well awnings have read some. Game controllers and other devices.

If you're looking for ultra-portability they do make rubber-like keyboards that roll up for travel. If you're looking for a small, solid keyboard, the one you posted looks fine (any usb keyboard works, as previously stated). If you want a wireless one, any bluetooth keyboard will work. Some say "meant for iPad," but as long as it's bluetooth it'll work on the a500. Some even come with folding stands to rest the tab on while you type so it doesn't have to lay flat if you don't have a case. They'll run you a bit more, but you do have the benefit of having the usb port freed up (as hardslog stated). If you aren't worried about a mouse/using a usb drive in combination with the keyboard (which, to be honest, you'd only really use when transferring files, which you wouldn't need a keyboard to do, anyway), then might as well pay less than half the price and get a wired one.
It really comes down to what you'd prefer. External keyboard functionality with the a500 is pretty smooth regardless.

i. Have a solidtek brand mini keyboard with built in track pad as on a laptop.

I went out and picked up a Logitech k360 for $30 and works great. Now to just either make a stand for the tablet or find one for a good price.

i use one for note taking at university.it works great. never had a problem. I got one that says motorola on it. they all look the same to me. it takes 2 AA batteries and have lasted a long time so far. connects flawlessly every time. I got mine at staples a while back.

I use my Palm 3245WW Wireless keyboard with my A500. Works perfectly. The special Palm OS function keys and stuff don't work, but all the normal keyboard functions work fine. Haven't felt the need to buy anything different since this one that I've had for years works so well.

They're not at all inexpensive, but the FreedomPro keyboards are among the best I ever came across... They're almost full sized keyboards (combined number & F-keys are only half the normal size, as well as the modifiers + space) that fold in half for storage and transport. Also, this makes them quite robust... I do a lot of programming and stuff with mine, both with my laptop and my tab. What doesn't work is the phone keys, though, as the phone app is defunct on the Iconia Tab.

I too have the Motorola Xoom keyboard, I think the volume keys work, can't remember, a few android specific buttons don't work though for whatever reason.

Ps3 keyboard works, both as a keyboard and as a trackpad. it took me a little while to figure out how to pair it, having never owned a ps3, but now it connects at the push of a button. Ps3 controller works well too, wired via built-in support and wireless via sixaxis app.

im using microsoft mobile keyboard 6000
works like a charm and i didnt need to change batteries since 6month
got it for 25euros in a local supermarket

I use the Logitech "Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+" (yup, that's the name) and it has a stand built into the case. Works great.
My wife has a SIIG bluetooth keyboard for her A500 and it also works fine (+ less expensive)

Keysonic 540RF Wireless
Just wanted to share that I have tested this keyboard. I normally use it for my HTPC and thought I would give it a try on this tablet. Works like a dream, the mouse pointer also shows up and most of the keys work.
I haven't had the chance to test all the keys yet.

If any keys don't work, they can be mapped. "KeyEvent Display" from the market will give you char codes, and if I remember right, the file to modify is /system/usr/keylayout/querty.kl or use logcat to find which one gets loaded. Then just add your new codes.

I use the Acer A500 bluetooth keyboard. Got it for less than 50 bucks and it works just fine.

I use THIS keyboard and I love it because it folds in half for easy transportation when I take it to school, but yet you still have the benefits of a "hard" keyboard, unlike those roll up silicone keyboards. I've got the black version.
You can pick it up used from Amazons Warhouse in "Like New" condition for about $33.

I've just order the iGo Bluetooth keyboard from Argos for £28.99 inc free delivery. I'll post a review when I get it!

I've been trying to get a BT mouse to work on my nexus 4.
i've now tried 2 different models, without success.
both are recognized, both pair and then both completely fail to work.
to add insult to injury, i tried one of those mice on a friend's samsung google nexus today -- also running jellybean -- and it worked perfectly.
could anybody running a BT mouse successfully SINCE THE LAST UPDATE (4.2.1) let me know what make/model they have?

take a nexus 4 + slimport adaptor + BT mouse + BT keyboard,
add an lcd TV with hdmi input (now common in hotels etc.),
and you have:
- a portable PC
- a decent home media centre (with armchair remote input)
- possibly a productivity tool for editing text/ photos etc. for which a touchscreen is too inprecise an input device.

Instead of doing all that why wouldn't you just go wireless display and then use the phone as the remote at the sametime? Wouldn't that make more sense?
And AFAIK, bluetooth input devices weren't supported?

sorry, i typically use a laptop for those things. It would make a lot more sense btw. You can also use your phone as a bluetooth mouse/keyboard if you have a laptop that connects to a tv.

Wow, you are quite "the absurd man". If you're trying to find help in a forum, it's best if you be a bit nicer. We're both trying to give you better alternatives to what you're trying to accomplish. To answer your questions...
A/wireless display technology is built in with the n4 and jelly bean and it's not yet widely available to most tv's yet but achievable with adapters.
B/so you don't have to carry around a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. It helps you with 2 less things you carry (unless you're using a combo).
C/this one I can't back him cause I thought it is supported. Maybe it is broken, but I don't use it so I wouldn't know

i don't want to carry a laptop around when i already have a computer in my pocket.
and i'm not happy with touch input devices as they are too slow and lack the precision needed for heavy editing.
these are my (not i.m.o. unreasonable) requirements of the nexus 4.

getting the display to the TV is no problem -- i already have a slimport adaptor! why would i want to max out my wifi for that? it's bananas!
and i've already said that i don't want to use touch input as it's too slow and inprecise for my purposes.
my portable (igo stowaway) keyboard and notebook BT mouse are tiny (and inexpensive).
sorry to seem abrasive but you are not getting what i'm trying to achieve here.

i've heard other people making the tablet/ phone distinction before and i'm not sure it's a valid one. the nexus 4 surely IS a tablet, albeit with a smaller physical (not resolution) screen. what else distinguishes a tablet? i use my N4 in exactly the same way i used my asus transformer and playbook.

In your first post you didn't clarify that you were going to hook it up to a tv, so I assume that you were planning to connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to your n4 and try to work from it's bit-smaller-than 5" display, which is highly unproductive.
N4 is technically a phone, not a tablet, by definition and specifications. I shouldn't have to explain the differences between a phone and a tablet (I'm sure there's a thread with detailed explanations)... just because it's running the same os doesn't mean it has the same hardware classification.
I understand that you want your N4 to replace your computer and the technology is very close, but not quite there yet... For simple tasks, it's good, but for anything editing, a laptop computer is highly more productive than a phone. Imagine you're doing something and you constantly receive phone calls and text messages.
Anyways, I will test this later when I get home and see if it's really broken. I know my Bluetooth moga game controller works just fine so I don't know why your mouse wouldn't.

Bluetooth is pretty much borked in all versions of Jellybean for all devices. Some things work and some things don't its pretty hit or miss. Version 4.2.1 added some drivers for game controllers but not much else so that's probably why those work and things like mice don't. There is supposed to be another fix coming in the next version but all that's known to be in there for sure is a fix for A2DP streaming.

however, the (jellybean) samsung google nexus has no problem running a BT mouse, as i saw today.
i'd like to raise awareness of this problem with the N4 and get some more response from users, which has so far been sparse, probably because (as other posters in this thread have indicated) few see the need for a mouse.
for instance, somebody reported on another thread that they had been able to make a microsoft 5000 notebook mouse work. can anybody corroborate that?
i'm reluctant to shell out for yet another mouse considering that i'm currently holding 2 non-functioning ones.

meanwhile i'm awaiting delivery of a microsoft notebook 5000 BT mouse which has been reported to work by another poster. i'll report back on that when it arrives
