Looks like the guys un the captivate forum just got a hold of froyo release
if that's real (haven't read the thread), then isn't it a similar hw layout so someone (*cough*eugene*cough*) could use the source to get us a more functional aosp build for the vibrant? maybe?
If that's really froyo
Their froyo build is JI6
So does that mean the JI6 we had that we couldn't get encryption key for was probably froyo?

That's what I'm thinking...
Let's hope that good anonymous soul who shared Froyo for Captivate, does the same for us
The build they have is froyo
Firmware version:
2.2
Baseband version:
I897UCJI6
Kernel Version:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build Number
FROYO.UCJI6

All the Galaxy S Phones use unique firmware revision nomenclature, so I'm thinking it's just coincidence...also the JI6 leak on Kies was much smaller, more in line with a 2.1 Eclair build...
I thought it was funny on Samsungs FB page someone told them to release the code and let the devs make Froyo happen for the Vibrant.

I'm referring to the .enc archive JI6 that was on the Kies servers but blocked from the Kies application, as was the person I replied to. Knowledge of this came out a day or so after JI5 hit Kies.
Noone was able to decode that one, but it was only 188megs, about the size you'd expect an Eclair build to be, and nearly identical in size to JI5, unlike the Froyo JI6 for the Captivate that is pushing 295mb, a size in line with a Froyo build for the international SGS.
..............ignore masterotaku beat me to it
edit
another thing is they dont just have firmware its some kind of odin/firmware one click exe but still i doubt that would make up for 100MB
I am happy for the capativate guys....
*looks at my Vibrant..............*
once it's out in the open for Captivate, it will be ported to us soon
hardware's way too similar
Does this mean Froyo will be announced next week for the Vibrant and release a week after the announcement? Hopefully
captivate users got froyo and root in one night. lucky !!
WTF !
I wish I bought captivate instead of T-mobile crap !
uhm, just curious, where are people getting the idea ji6 is froyo?
Because JI6 is the same build name for Captivate and that build is FROYO. To be exact the Captivate FROYO build is I897UCJI6

Because the Captivate version is Froyo-JI6 (as posted by demo23019--see below) and far later into the day when JI5 for the Vibrant was available on Kies (the other day), a link was posted to an encrypted file for Vibrant-JI6 so that is why people are thinking that JI6 for the Vibrant is Froyo also now. No one was ever able to get the keys for it to find out more, as of this post too I believe--I have not checked in almost a day in that topic.
But as the last few posts indicate, it likely is not and just an updated build from JI5 because of the file size not being as large as it should be. See what masterotaku post.

1. can I accept it if I'm on the stock rom?
2. if not, will there be a comprehensive update from the dev community with new radios and the updated rom?
We already got the update go look in dev section for glacier gingerbread leak posted by faux123, not teampokerface

This wasn't always true in the past on older phones, but on the MT4G and you're rooted, you won't receive OTA updates even if you're on the stock ROM.
so in other words i have to unroot to get the ota update when it comes out?

no, those are the exact words.
The new OTA will be GB MySense, we've had it for over a week. We now also have GB Sense 2.1 built specifically for our hardware. So in other words, everything tmo has to offer and SO much more is already posted in the dev section. The pecking order of AOSP>Sense>MySense pretty much means that it takes FOREVER to get updates, so official OTA's are like celebrating Christmas in July.
Wondering if there is gonna be a gingerbread version of brootstrapper X out there? Also is there anyone out there that has rooted the offical gingerbread out there?
I believe that D2 is GB...it also works on Froyo.
The official gingerbread is rooted and available through the TBH app
Having decided I'll stick with 2.3.3 for the time being since I don't feel the need to risk ruining my warranty with the leaked 2.3.4 version, does anyone have any info on a possible timescale for the official version of 2.3.4 to be released? Also, on the right hand side of the wikipedia entry for android, it say:
Latest stable release
Phones:
2.3.4 (Gingerbread) / 24 February 2011; 4 months ago[3]
suggesting it's official and has been since february? I thought it was only leaked in the last couple of weeks. I'm presumably misunderstanding something somewhere, lol
The 2.3.4 leaked update does reduce the Android OS a bit but in general not really solve the problem.
I would flash a custom ROM, you can always go back to stock and unroot if your really worried about risking your warranty.

There is no official ETA just rumours which state sometime this month and the 2.3.4 will be for the Nexus which gets all the updates first as it's a google branded phone.

Well, even if 2.3.4 becomes official sometime in the next month or so, that's not too long a wait for me. So Nexus gets priority, ok. And then they'll presumably make it an update for the SGS2 as well?
What about that wikipedia entry, they must have made an error with the last digit of 2.3.4.

i don't think you understood what he said: nexus already got the update, hence the february date. our phone runs a customised version (touchwiz launcher + custom samsung stuff) so we have to wait until samsung is ready to roll out their version of 2.3.4.
obviously these "leaks" are there so that more users can test the firmware. i'm guessing the official update is not far away.

Have been running the 2.3.4 leaked for over a week now , no problems at all
so i wonder what the official will change
ifor one find all the roms the same, except i do like the gtalk video chat in 2.3.4 works perfectly
I think the official 2.3.4 will bring gtalk with massage function as well as a breakfast in bed... mmmm

It seems it's the final version, and as I understood, motorola will soon release a version like this or liker. But I have a question. I have motorola milestone 2 (A953) and the leak is for A956. If I flash my A953 with this A956 version, will i have problems related to network? And if I want, am I able to restore original sbf version of my A953?
Thanks!!
Network won't work. And downgrade is not guaranteed (40% chance you can get back by flashing a Stock SBF).

if you have problems with baseband (gsm) you can use this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182050
I use this on 2.2.2 and 2.3.4 and works.
Sounds risky. I'll just wait for official Gingerbread update from Motorola.
Yeah, I'm afraid of that. I'll wait till the end of time when motofail will release the official version =p. Just for notice, google will soon release ice cream sandwich, and motofail still stuck on updating their mobiles to gb -.-
