I've never heard of CM7 causing something like that- though I assume you mean you have your evo on but can't press it to bring up the power menu. If you mean the power button won't turn the screen on, check to see if the buttons are at least lighting up. If they do, that's a backlight issue caused by the CM7 kernel, not the power button. Try to turn the screen on and off a few times and the backlight should eventually come on. Then, in cyanogen settings, turn the screen-on animation off- that solved the backlight issue for me.
Otherwise, try pulling the battery to turn it off, then plug it back in, if it doesn't turn on at all when you hit the power button from there, that's a hardware issue and it's time to take it in to get fixed.

Sounds like a bad power button. Lucky for you cm7 just added the ability to wake the phone from the volume keys.

Yea I did that but how do I turn the display off with no power button?

There is a widget as well that you can apply that will put the phone to sleep for you.

Anyone elses r800x slow to respond to the power button?

Anyone else vzw xplay slow to wake up? I sometimes push the power button and it takes 5 seconds to wake. Am I alone? Maybe need to wipe my phone.

Ive had some experience of the power button not responding and being slow to respond. I thought the button was broken once, but I took the battery out and back in. And it worked fine , so it seems to maybe be a bug. Ive had no trouble with it for weeks now.

I've had the same problem. The phone doesn't respond to a button press to wake up the phone at all sometimes. Not even holding the button will wake it. I'll have to remove the battery to get it to reboot. Very annoying.
It seems very intermittent--happens just as much with a full battery as with a partially charged battery. This leads me to believe it's a software/ firmware issue, but I'm not sure.
I hope a fix is coming soon. I'm thinking of calling tech support.

Well my phone always wakes up when I push the power button. There's just a 5 second delay each time.

I tried right now n no delaying

I get this occasionally, most often when using the phone. It improved slightly when I upgraded to 2.3.3, but it still happens. There is another thread on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023045, still not sure what the solution is.
Out of habit I do not use the power button to wake my phone.
I have always used the Home button. I have never had a delay. Mine is a R800a though.

Screen comes on blank

Alot of times when I press my power button, my screen doesn't come all the way on, it would just be a dark screen and the buttons at the bottom light up and once I press the power button again, it turns off but when I try to turn my screen on again, its comes blank again. This happens randomly but alot. Some times I have to sit and keep Turning the screen off and on for 1-2 minutes for it to finally come on and if a call comes thought, I still cant see. I thought it may have been a rom or kernel issue but I've flashed a few different roms and kernels and the issue is still here. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced.

Try doing the whole setup in the thread below. Usually, when I don't do this setup with a clean flash of an aosp rom, I have the same problem.
Having trouble with AOSP? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295702
If you're undervolting at all, try a lighter setting, less of an undervolt
Also try raising your Min CPU speed a little higher

Won't turn off.

Got a question. My girlfriends phone won't stay off. We press the power button to put it to sleep and/or turn the screen off. When we do, it comes back on right after. It is a little annoying and battery draining. Any help?

Just do a battery pull
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Yeah we do that, but sometimes it still does it too. Its weird.

If its plugged in it could stay on. Is her phone rooted? Can you clear the cache and dalvik? Make sure its unplugged and do a battery pull. Then leave it out for a couple mins, replace, wipe cache and see if it still happens. She may also have a crappy power button.
Nah, she's not rooted. I've thought about it, but I also don't want to mess her phone up and go through the long gfree process. Mine is rooted, g2. But I told her maybe later I would. She likes the way it is, dunno why, but does. So ill let it be for now.

B4 I was rooted I use to use go launcher and other home replacement apps and I found sometimes it would make my screen turn on randomly so it could be an app she has down loaded
Sent from my Dark Unicorn Resurrected v.2.5 using xda premium
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. She has a theme on go sms that tries to get her to download go launcher. I want her rooted so her phone will work 10x better, but she's an if ain't broke don't fix it girl. But her phone is pretty broke ha ha
Sent from planet Vegeta.
Haha well it could be an app and I think you should just keep trying to get her to let you root it and then give her a great custom rom and she won't have any reason to complain lol

wont turn off
hi, i have a rooted my-touch 4g w/ cyanogen 7. i am currently experiencing the same problem. pressing the power button only momentarily shuts screen off then it comes right back on. after that it will continue to shut off and on. i believe the problem has to do with the track pad button, possible=y something making contact or an improperly working switch. i have found that if you time pressing the power button right when the screen starts to turn back on it will stay off, but you have to time it right. as to why i think its the track pad, i have found that if you hold the track pad button down and then press the power button the screen will remain off until you release the track pad button. i pressed down hard on the track pad and released then tried the power button by itself and it seem to be functioning correctly for the moment. i am 99% sure its the track pad button.
Could it be stuck power button

It may be fastboot. Just a suggestion.

Phone acts strange

Will randomly power off and on, while sitting off completely untouched it will power itself on. Sitting alone untouched while off it will randomly start vibrating. It will shut itself off and then not power back on for 10+ minutes or if plugged in sometimes. I have replaced the battery, thinking it was bad. Any ideas?
Sounds like your power button is taking a dump.

I had considered that, but didnt think thats why it would randomly buzz indefinitely when it was untouched.

what do you think? is the problem in hardware or in software?
if the problem in software, there are a lot of apps doing what you want (on off restart whatever) , and you can install one of them.

If the button itself is defective and you are not under warranty you may be able to find a replacement on ebay. I have seen various phones being parted out there and the button should come with a replacement rear cover. If it is the actual switch on the motherboard you have a different problem though. Have you removed the rear case to test that switch? It can be done with a torx t5 screwdriver, a couple of guitar picks and a half hour of patience.

it seems to me something went wrong with your rom.. try to reinstall it by N-cry toolkit.. and then install one of those apps which gives you no need to this button anymore. just like what I do.
