[Q] Sdcard not found - Wildfire General

Hi,I have a problem with my sdcard.
2 days now every rom i try, acts like there is no sdcard inserted on the phone.File manager says "This folder is empty",there is no mount sdcard option when connecting usb cable, and Storage settings say "Insert an sdcard for mounting".
The strange thing is that from recovery i can access all my files and i can mount the card to the pc as well with absolutely no problems. The card is formated with gparted as ext2,and a few megabytes as swap.Any help would be apreciated

Nevermind i somehow magically fixed it

Recreate using gparted. I too had lot unsuccessful trials of partitioning with it.
Use gparted again and delete entire space. Then leave some space for ext partition (in multiples of 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024). Now create remaining space as extended partition first. It need not be formatted now. Then create 0 mb swap . Then create multiple value to ext.
Then format ext. Then format fat.
Dont know whether it solves or not because I was totally confused here. For me the sdcard that came with wildfire got apps2sd enabled only when partitioning with gparted. But when I used another sdcard, it even suceesfully enabled apps2sd when partitioning from recovery.

ext fomatted sd space in liberated Aria (eclair) doesn't show up in cyanogen 6.1.1

Hello everyone,
I recently got an HTC aria from AT&T.
After a few days I went ahead and rooted the phone.
At first I decided to try the liberated Aria (éclair) rom. It was a good experience. But just last night I decided to try another rom, so I went with Cyanogenmod 6.1.1.
While I was using liberated aria, I used rom manager to partition my sd card with the ext filesystem, so I could move some apps to it and open up some space from my phone's internal storage.
This space, while I never figured out how to move the apps, always showed in titanium backup.
With the move to Cyanogenmod 6.1.1, this partition doesn't show at all!, in fact my sd card is at 1.7 Gb!, it's like I lost an extra 0.25 Gb (which is the partition size I chose in rom manager before)... I tried partitioning in cyanogenmod with rom manager again, but then my sd card took another 0.25 Gb hit and went to 1.5 Gb!...
How do I get back to my 2Gb sdcard space? furthermore how I do partition the card such that I can extend my internal storage for apps?
Thanks
Andres
I use gparted on linux to do that. I'm not sure what OS you use, but there are live cds you could use.
But on gparted, you should be able to see all the partitions on the card and manage them as necessary.
In order to use the ext partition, you should darktremor's app2sd. Ext3 is the filesystem you should use, but ext2 works as well I believe.

thanks, I use Debian Squeeze on desktop and testing on laptop.
I just got gparted, but it says my external storage is only 1.7 Gb!
Like I said...the extra 0.25 Gb is no longer being mounted with the sdcard and it somewhere lost in the filesystem and/or apportioned to some obscure directory...
Hmmm... that is quite odd. I know some sd cards aren't actually what they state. My 8GB card only shows as 7.8GB for example.
Try formatting the whole card (Back up first!!) And see if it comes back somehow. I am not a sd card expert.

thats what i'd recommend.
when you installed cm6, did you do a wipe data? did you notice if it said it was wiping the ext partition? i'd guess cm6 isn't noticing the space because it was partitioned separately from the rom install.
backup your important data, format the card, and try repartitioning it again now that you've got cm6 installed.
well I'm not entirely sure why it worked this time, but I was able to fully format the card. Now I'm back to 2Gb (well, really 1.84 Gb, but that's right)
The problem I think was that I was formatting with Rom manager, and it was ignoring the extra unrecognized space. What I did different this time, is that I went into settings > sd card & storage > unmount sd card > format sd card > mount sd card > sucess!
So this successfully formatted the whole card.
Thanks for your pointers
Unfortunately trying to partition it again failed.
I tried gparted and it successfully formatted a part of the card with the ext3 filesystem (while leaving the rest as unallocated -- at least this is what gparted said). Unfortunately when mounting the sd card on my phone it complained that the card had been damaged. So I had to reformat it, undoing the previous partitioning.
Then I tried rom manager again, but the way it works is by going into recovery and partitioning the card there. Unfortunately, clockworkmod recovery showed a warning sign ( triangle with an exclamation mark in it) above an android and froze there...I had to pull the battery out to reboot my phone.
I guess my oldish version of gparted (0.7.0) doesn't like the YAF filesystem (YAFFS). So perhaps when it partitions the card, it screws up the existing YAFFS partition. I'll try to use gparted again to partition the card fully, 256 Mb ext3 as extra app storage and the rest, I guess ext3 as well.
Andres
I finally did get it to work on both R012 and FR008 (as well as CM6.1.1 and CM7)
I formatted the sdcard with gparted (chose a 512 Mb ext3 partition with 32 Mb Swap). Then from android's terminal emulator (as root) I typed
Code:
a2sd check
and it enabled apps2sd using darktremor just fine. It became aware of my ext3 partition.

[Q] Failed to setup APP2SD

Hey guys,
I decided to setup my sd card today cause my phone internal memory was constantly running out. I followed the stickies on how to partition the SD using EASEUS. After I partitioned the app2sd partition, i booted up my phone. The phone says there is no sd card. So i rebooted the phone and mount my SD card through recoverymod. I can still see my sd card and files inside of it, but it only has 7GB left instead of 8GB. EASEUS too only detects only one partition of 7GB. Other then mounting the storage through recoverymod's Mounting USB Storage, the sd card cant be mounted anywhere else. Recoverymod shows Error: failed to mount /sdcard for all functions that require the sd card.
Has anyone came across this problem and fixed it ?

It seems that your sdcard is corrupted.
Try to backup all data and reformat all partitions in linux
Windows can't recognize second partition on sdcard & it can sometimes mess up the partition.
Try GParted (google it).

I tried browsing my SD card through GParted ( linux version and boot cd version), and all of them shows only 1 partition of 7gbs. One G is still missing and sd card still fails to work .

Did you make a backup of your sd before creating the sd ext partition
? Should be written in each tutorial concerning sd ext creation.
Otherwise your data is no more.
As already written, windows is not able to read a sd ext partition. its fully right, that your fat32 partition shows only 7gb, the other 1gb is used from the sd ext and not viewable by windows.
...to create a sd-ext very easy go into cwm-advanced-format sd card and chose 1gb ext 0 swap.

Try this :
Backup all data in your micro SD.
Open & boot your computer using Gparted Linux / Parted Magic Linux / any other linux that has GParted / Parted inside its LiveCD
Run Gparted.
Delete all partitions.
Options:
Create sd-ext partition using GParted :
Create 1 fat32 Partition (as Primary) & adjust the size to your liking
Create 1 ext3/ext4 (as Primary...check if your android kernel support ext4) & adjust the size to your liking (usually 1 - 2 GB is enough)
Create sd-ext partition using CW Recovery:
Create fat32 Partition (as Primary...use all space)
Boot HD2 into AD Recovery
Go to Advanced menu
Format & choose sd-ext partition options
Flash your fav. ROM
Notes:
I personally like Parted better than GParted as it's a lot quicker & more advanced options (GParted is only a front-end for Parted).
Parted is for advanced user & TUI.
If you want to try Parted, make sure you read the manual & understand everything related to your actions (open console / terminal & type : man parted)
Use Parted using Root access (open console / terminal & type : sudo parted).
Use it with caution as it can wipe all of your hard drive data !
For more info about Parted try this link :

(Tutorial)How to use Swap!

This is my first first Tutorial thread in xda!
So,don't mind me and forgive me If i am done wrong something!
Swapper is simple application for "extending memory". Helps when you need some memory for non active applications (like music player + browser + maps + etc...).
Requirement: root, SD/SDHC card and custom kernel that support swap .
Warning: SD card will be used as swap space. It can (and will) shorten SD card lifespan.
1.Downlod Swapper 2 from market! Link: https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.swapper2
2.Install Swapper2 normally
3.There are 2ways to swap: first use swap by partition and another one is by none partition(But If you partition you can create more 256mb)
4.For using swap by partition u must partition your sdcard by using minitool or etc....(NOTE: partition to linux swap and primary)
5.After you partition you turn off yor phone and then back to xrecovery or cwm to clear cache partition
6.turn on n then open swapper2 normally and go to Preferences of swapper then you check safe to unmount and safe to remount
7.and then you go adavaned preferences and check the Use swap partition and Swap partition set it to /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
8.after that go back to swapper2 and turn it on (wait the process when it say All done It works)
9.Another one way is none using swap partition it easy because swap create it by itself but it can't more then 256mb
10.First Open Swapper2 then go to Preferences of swapper
11.Click on Swap size and click what number that u want to swap 32,48,64..etc
12.Then go back to Swapper2 and turn it on
13.For none using swap partition method It take a while 3minutes or more depend on class of your sd card!!!wait the process untill it say All done It mean that It works
Recommend: For me,I'm using micro sdcard 16G class10 so i partition my sdcard 1500mb for swap ^^ I alway free more ram about 90 to 120
Note: for swappiness it depend on your phone!!for me i can use swappiness 100 smoothy
If you have any question you can ask me more about this
I take my time for making this thread If you think I'm helped you Just Click THANKS for me
Remember: do it with your own risk and i don't warranthy if this method cause brick your lovely x8
the primary partition must be ext or can be fat or ntfs ?!
also do u notice real improvements ?
I never understood how to do it with terminal, so thanks for your help!

I have a problem, when i format my sd card and put swap partition on mini partition tool, when i place my sd card back to phone its says "damaged sd card"...
I have swap running on 2 x8's. 1 is using 7000mb fat, 400 ext2 and 4-500 linux swap, however i cannot see the ext and swap partitions when i connect to pc, even though everything is working fine i would like to know how i can reformat my 8gb sd back to 8gb.
The other x8 has a 2gb unpartioned sd using the other method where a 256mb swap file is created. It works fine and is simple to set up but i have over 90mb free ram on partition set up and 70-80mb on the simple method.
All mine were set up with trial and error and there was no way to really confirm it was set up properly so this thread has confirmed my setup. It could have saved me time a few weeks ago but i'm sure lots of users will find this thread very helpful.
@ mods, I think its time to refresh the stickies as some are obsolete and i believe this thread would be an ideal sticky.
@OP, nice job. Thanks for your contribution to our little x8 section

4.after you resize u will see your partition
5.right click on your new partition and choose word create
6.partition it to linux swap and primary
7.apply it and wait the process
7.Done and Cheers

Don't forget to format after partitioning!
And with minitool for working swap and ext you must connect sd as phone's mass storage->not CWM mount usb storage, booted ROM and connect phone to PC.
Then you'll able to partition your sd. After all FORMAT and all will work.
+1 When you have a 4gb sd you must create FAT, when you have above 4 gb create FAT32. Create first a primary FAT(32), then a primary SWAP/EXT
I partitioned my SD card (4gb class 4) with this propieties
Primary: 3.4GB
Logical: 313MB
But when I put the sd card into the phone, it doesn't recognizes the SDCard.
It's weird because when I browse in my SD card via cwm it shows my files and folders :Z
Anyone knows what the hell i'm doing wrong?

No, it is only showing as 7gb. When I format it stays at 7gb and I can't see the other 2 partitions on the PC. They work with links2sd and swapper. Do I need to remove anything from the rom connected with apps2sd, I'm using kuyadroid with alfs kernel. I have removed everything from the modules folder but my phone storage is low and links2sd says only 2% of ext2 been used even though it successfully links my apps, or so it claims. Sorry for all the questions but if I know then I can help others thanks for your reply

sd card partition problem...

Hi there,
Yesterday I was trying to partition my sd card on CM9, but something went wrong...
I set the ext size to 256mb, and swap size was set to 128mb...
Later I tried formatting sd-ext, but cwm displays the message that no sd-ext partition found...
Now my 200mb-250mb is wasted from my sd card...Can anyone tell me how to recover the lost space...
U can get it back by putting it in a computer and using Minitool Partition Wizard. However why on earth did u set 128 swap. Its supposed to be 0 or 32.
Anyway try partitioning and getting the ics s2e from saaransh's thread

partition

I have pationed my sd card into 1 gb ext4 patition now I am using h9....now it shows only 6gb memory card....and my internal memory ia same...and the remaining 1gb is not found...hp to make that 1gb as my internal....
You need to use Link2sd & mount the partition then you can link apps
If link2sd doesn't give you the option to mount the ext partition you created it wrong
You can create your partition in cwm under the partitioning section - note that it will format your sd card so backup first to pc
Also note that your internal storage will not increase - this is a fixed hard drive and unless you magically fit a bigger one it will always be the same
What you are doing is creating virtual storage space on your sd card that acts like internal storage
The advantage is you can install more apps
The disadvantage is the more apps you link the more laggy the phone will get

By either formatting the sd card with your phone or creating a new partition in cwm (this will delete everything on sd card so backup first to pc)
Or
Use mini tool on pc to format the partition & then merge the partitions or delete all partitions & create a new one
