There is another thread about this I found. Search for it. Anyway, it seems that the issue is Touchwiz 2.5. SO...we have to wait until Froyo comes out with TW3.0 and THEN see if the TV out is available. All of the other SGS phones that have it are TW 3.0.
But I'm with you man.

This is partially true, but not totally true.
When people talk about TV out, it's helpful if they define how they wish to get TV out.
All four US Galaxy S series phones support DLNA, which is why Samsung claims TV out features for their phones. But that's now what most folks would consider TV out...
Only the GSM phones have TV out via the 3.5mm output.
So to say that this is a TW 3.0 issue, would be inaccurate. The Fascinate has TW3.0 and does not support TV out via the 3.5mm port. I read a post somewhere that described the CDMA chip not being able to work with the 3.5mm out port, but I haven't been able to find it. I thought it was BS at the time so I ignored it, but now that the Fascinate is out and the 3.5mm port does not support TV out, I'm trying desperately to find it to double check the specs.
That leaves TV out via the microUSB port. Samsung's website was offering (they still might be) an HDMI cable that worked via the microUSB port and specifically listed the Galaxy S series (including the Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant and Epic by name) however, nobody has been able to get it to work.
And thuse we're left with the speculation that TV out via the MicroUSB might be a Froyo addition, but not necessarily something that might be part of TW3.0 independently.
I found the post. Here you go:

Hi, I'm a Sprint employee and Epic owner. Having worked with the Samsung developers a little I can tell you with assurance that the TV Out option was not "disabled" by Sprint's choice. It's a h/w limitation. When you first boot the phone you get an auto update which appears to disable the TV Out option, but I think that's a mandatory because the shipping ROM is universal to domestic carriers from Samsung. The TV Out limitation is due to the CDMA SOC (system on chip), which will be true for the Verizon model coming soon. The Galaxy S devices based on the GSM SOC do have the TV Out option.
DLNA is the only option for displaying multimedia on a remote display, but keep in mind you are limited to self-created content. You can't broadcast YouTube or SprintTV across DLNA as the DRM encryption is not supported on either the Epic or any remote device.
We're glad you're a Sprint customer and hope you remain happy with your Epic!

Why are people so mad about this? No one ever said it would have tv out via cable only through dlna.

Because you cannot share your self-recorded Movies through every DLNA device. PS3 and the Xbox both do not support our 3gp HD movie format.
I would like to visit my mother's house and be able to plug into her TV and show her the recordings of her granddaughters and other self-recorded video but I will be unable to do so without expensive extra hardware.
Well, don't shoot the messenger - I simply pay attention.
And second, RCA jacks are so 1990's I don't really care if they don't support them. This is a top of the line phone, so I'm glad if they sacrificed somewhere that they sacrificed 1990s technology.
That being said, don't give me HDMI out with the Froyo update and, well I'll have a CDMI issue. Good thing I'm on Sprint with 4G and not Verizon where I'd be really screwed. No 4G, no TV out, nothing to justify my costs, really...

Idk if this brings hope for anyone but one of my own customers hooked up his epic to our hdtv and streamed micro usb to hdmi both video and sound, i watched this with my own 2 eyes, he "claims" his epic was stock, I've yet to try mine cause we don't carry the cable and he had brought his own"
Given that last post, I'm almost tempted to gamble with $40. If anyone else has seen this done, just 1 more person to verify and I'm in. Now that I've heard a physical 'my own 2 eyes' confirmation, I'm feeling a bit optomistic (although probably setting myself up for disappointment). Anyone else tried or know someone who's tried?

Just trying to understand this thread. Before this phone came out a lot of threads were talking about the fact the phone had no tv-out. Many said that was a deal breaker. I get that. Everyone know weeks before the phone came out it had no tv-out. I just understand the "tv-out" threads. Sorry

Well, I agree that people shouldn't be upset if it ISN'T there. However, if people are mearly asking for alternatives/workarounds, or possibly finding unadvertised features (ie 3.5 jack on gsm models) I believe that's exactly what this forum is for. However I also believe people should not be starting a ton of threads. Search for those that exist, and continue that thread (or make this one 'the thread')

Has anyone else noticed that the Galaxy Tab uses a connection pretty damn similar to the one on our Streaks? After doing some reading it looks as though both use PDMI and cables sold as Galaxy Tab cables are a damns sight cheaper. So I've just ordered one and hopefully I will have some good news to report, we'll be able to spend a fiver instead of £30 for a cable! Not to mention car chargers.
But if anyone knows someone with a Tab they can test, we might get an answer sooner?

Ahhhh that sux! But I think, had I searched google for "Dell streak with galaxy tab cable" I would have noticed the amount of people that had the same bright spark idea.... (leave me alone, it was late.... LOL)... But since I'm going to have one delivered that I have no need for, I'm going to see if I can mutilate it enough to fit
It does annoy the hell out of me, how they can use a "standard" and make it proprietary.

Personally speaking, the current Xoom functions as a laptop replacement and more but it all depends on what you expect to do with it. You've heard from at least one person who disagrees with me, but many more would agree. It's an amazing piece of hardware and will only become more functional as more apps and customizations are created for it.
But do as you like.

Couldn't agree more. I have the latest Team Tiamat Moray ROM on here with Bazar617's StockRed UI, and with the current crop of apps, I believe I am getting value far beyond my original expectations. The development community that is behind the Xoom is going to make this worthwhile for a long time.

It's unrealistic to expect any tablet to suitably be your only computer. I have my high-powered desktop to do all that downloading, ripping, file conversion, storage for streaming, and for adb, etc...My Xoom goes everywhere with me, something I wouldn't do with a laptop. not yet, see what the Xoom2 or Xformer 2 has to offer. The browser still is garbage and it will annoy you if you want to surf with browser. the HDMI sound is in mono which is also terrible if you want to hook it up to your flat screen. I love mine to death but will be getting rid of it once either a new one with better browser and audio comes out or another table is comparable..
I hope ICS resolves some of the annoyances.
Woo too.. long time lurker first time poster!
Love having the hdmi out on the Motorola xoom, and it seems to work perfectly on my hdtv. My question is, I have a projector unfortunately with no hdmi. It does, however , support vga. So I was wondering, if anybody on the forum had any luck or experience with adapters converting hdmi from the xoom ?
Thanks in advance to anybody That has any input.
HDMI<->VGA requires digital<->analog conversion, and requires active electronics rather than just a dumb cable. In layman's terms, it means "expensive". Some solutions per below link (from a Goog search, no endorsement intended),
http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdtovgaad.html
Thanks e.mote, I appreciate it.
For the price involved with conversion you are better off getting an hdmi projector.

$35 is $35. But that doesn't seem so interesting. I understand it doesn't need a computer since it's a computer itself. But why not just get a flashable boot drive?
Same thing as Cotton Candy I feel. This is just more cost effective.
