[Q] root using nvflash? - Eee Pad Transformer General

how would i go about rooting my transformer using nvflash? is nvflash even the best method or is there a better way?

Nvflash is the easiest way to root : Install driver, launch script, done
Only bad side : wipes everything on device

If you don't mind losing your data (or if your data is already backed up) then yes you can use nvflash with a pre-rooted ROM. Otherwise, assuming you're running v3.1 of HC, you can follow this guide instead - you'll keep your data this way.

Noob question
I have bought an TF101 since a couple of days.
If i want root it, i need only nvflash procedure or also the ClockworkMod?
Thanks

Nvflash at minimum for root, ClockworkMod is only required if you plan on either making regular nandroid backups or flashing a custom ROM.

This method also flashes CWM. So after you nvflash boot into recovery and flash the rom you want. Easy. Only sacrifice is a full wipe.

Thanks!
If my TF will not leave for technical assistence, i will try!
(i have light leak problem...)

But if i want to stay with stock 3.1 and gain only root permission, i don't need to flash anything after nvflash?

No need to do anything else, that's it but CWM will be there in case you do want to do anything in the future.

extremely easy, takes like 5 minutes.
Hi!
Any one click root options with the NVFLASH? Any links to this app?
1) Would z4root work?
2) Any zip i can simply load and update using the recovery mode of Asus to install clockworkmod?
Thanks!

NVFlash is one click from the start.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
Just download a .tar.bz2 (some are outdated) then download a ROM and flash it on top. Depending what you flash, you might want to wipe.
Hey,
- Whats to do with .tar.bz2 ?
- How do I flash the NVFLASH?
- If I dont want WIPE? I just want root the stock ROM and put kernel which supports OC without wipe it? Since it comes with custom language packs and support for locals.
Thanks!

.tar.bz2: use winrar to extract it. Cut all the files and paste it into the root of /nvflash/ (you do this to make NVFlash flash it)
-Watch the video on the NVFlash thread that I linked.
-If you want to use the stock ROM. Then you have to find that thread that lets you root. You could also use NVFlash and then flash the rooted version of the stock.
If you could click the "thanks" button it'll be most appreciated! thanks
Using the search function would be VERY helpfull.

Thanks!

2. Yes NVFlash will flash a ROM of your choice. You will have to download the .tar.bz2 of the ROM you want (note these are VERY limited and you don't have much choice. So what you might have to do is download a .tar.bz2 of any ROM, then go into Clockwork and just flash another ROM [same old way with flashable zips]).
NVFlash will: Root, Install Clockwork. And yes that is it. It's not long, its one click.
Pretty much: download a .tar.bz2.
extract it, cut it into the root of /nvflash/
install NVIDIA drivers in /nvflash/
double click!
done.
2) Yes it would remove your stock ROM. If thats the case then you need to use another method that I'm not familiar with. NVFlash is the easiest way.
If there's a stock 8.4.4.11 with root, you could use that after flashing. But you won't get OTAs most likely. But people often put the OTAs in a flashable zip so OTAs are useless.
3. Don't know what Z4Root is.
I got my transformer a few days ago and let it upgrade over the air to 8.4.4.11
I then read this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125714) and decide to root it. It';s a few steps but thats because it is written out in absolute detail.
It just roots that particular firmware, and installs CWM. It took less than 10 minutes.

So basically:
1) You got any suggested .tar.bz2. link to download directly?
2) I simply connecting the ASUS to my windows laptop and finding nvflash folder there, extracting the .tar.bz2. into this folder?
3) I click the bat file from windows.
4) I've some custom rom with clockworkmod working. now I can load any rom i want with clockworkmod.

No NVFlash doesn't backup anything. Read what kibje said, that might be what you're looking for if you want to remain stock
1. Yes
2. No, you have to put the Transformer in APX mode (read the guide again)
3. In this mode, Windows will try and find a driver for it. Manually set it to /nvflash/ whatever it says in the guide.

I got this xoom for a steal (400$ for someone else's contract cancellation) and it's stock on 3.2. Any advice?-AT
I think it is the same as 3.1. You have to go backwards. And then manually updated to 3.2.

Not directly, but you can downgrade the firmware quite easily. First make sure you have adb and fastboot working. There are guides out there on how to do that. Then go into fastboot and type in without quotes "fastboot oem unlock". That will wipe your data so backup if necessary. After that, download the stock images for 3.0 here. All these images are for 3.0, just make sure you pick the right model. Once you have downgraded, let motorola update you to 3.1, from there you can then follow a guide for rooting 3.1 stock on verizon 3g xoom.
Thanks for the info. I will try to root from unlock from 3.2 stock using fast boot and let you know how it goes.-AT

I know I am beating the dead horse to death here but I just want to clarify everything one last time:
1.OEM unlock - I understand!
2. Install Recovery - Which versions of recovery are 3G 3.2 compatible? or are all recovery images the same?
3. Rom in Recovery - Again, I just want to make sure I am selecting a 3G compatible rom. I know that all roms have root access. What I am unsure of is if a custom kernal is included in the rom (never had to worry about this on my bootlocked DX).
Thank you so much for being patient with me and my new Xoom 3g. I how you can remember how frustrating it was when you first got you Xoom. I already love my Xoom and I know I will love it even more once I OC 50%+ and have root access Adam
It really only matters if it is wifi it 3g. It is not that hard on the xoom.

[UNROOT]The easiest unrooting method

I tested this out with both the transformer and slider. No need to do anything complicated.
ASSUMPTION:
You have CWM installed.
INSTRUCTION:
(1) Download the latest firmware from asus website.http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=16&m=Eee%20Pad%20Transformer%20TF101&os=32
(2) Unzip it. Inside, you should find another zip file. Place that zip file on your micro sdcard.
(3) Plug in your micro sdcard. Go into CWM.
(4) Wipe data/ factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe davik cache.
(5) Flash in the zip file you just got from the asus website.
(6) Once restarted, you will be back on non-rooted stock rom and stock recovery.

Download and install this app. Run the app and grant superuser access. Then flash the custom recovery. This will install cwm recovery. Then go to the development section and browse the custom roms. Download the rom of your choice, place on sd card, boot into recovery (shut down, then hold the volume down key and power key, then when prompted on screen, press the volume up key) Before flashing a new rom, u will want to do a full wipe first. (back up any needed data first) You will want to install from zip file. Choose the rom you downloaded, and now you have a custom rom installed.

Easy path from 3.2 stock rooted(w CWM) to ICS stock rooted

Sorry for the question if it has been answered already, I didnt keep up with the Android news for a while and now Im super confused.
I have an A500 3.2 with a rooted stock ROM. I also have the bootloader, I guess the name is CWM that I helped me install the rom from the mem stick.
Now since the ICS for A500 is avaiable what is the easiest path to upgrade my device.
I thougt is just a matter of finding the right binary file for the rooted stock version and use the CWM to load that.... But after browsing the forum i got super confused with the multitude of roms and bootloaders and utilities for cleaning partitions etc...
I'd really appreciate a good answer here. Can i just load a rom file(which one?) in my old CWM? Do i need to upgrade the bootloader? (how?) I dont care about the data on the device, that can go away...
Thanks in advance!!!
since you're still on HC bootloader, your easiest method would be to flash a ROM that works on both bootloaders like flexreaper
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517181
just wipe data, system, etc and flash the new ROM in CWM recovery

CWM is not the bootloader. It is the recovery application.
The best way is to follow the instructions civato put in this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25381131
You'll end up with a rooted tab running the ICS bootloader and CWM 1.7.2. After that flash Flexreaper RF1_rv3 using CWM and you're good to go. Remember it's best to make sure you have all the needed files on your SDcard BEFORE you begin (the ROM etc.)

[Q] How to Downgrade to 4.1.1 or Original for TF300T???

Hey guys!
I am trying to downgrade my current Stock 4.2.1 Rom to either 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 either stock or custom if possible even factory original.
How would I go about doing this as there is no clear cut instructions I could find....not sure if I can use NVFlash???
I previously had root performed using the VoodooOTA Method. Now I have unlocked the bootloader and also managed to install the TWRP Custom Recovery....although I do not think it has been installed correctly as it is unable to mount certain directories...../cache or /data and /system are some examples.....not sure if that is because of version or because of changes done to root enabler by new firmware upgrade.
If anyone has clear instructions or could point me in the right direction I would highly appreciate it!
Thanks
There might be a few issues with the new OTA update and recovery, if you already have a backup with nvflash from when you had ICS then yes there is a guide you can use to go back,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894867
if not then you should either try to flash one of the stock ROMs mentioned in the sticky in the Android Development section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227
or if you think twrp is not working well you should wait just in case you do damage to your device. There is a chance some partitions have been altered in the new update and twrp needs to be updated, by whoever is responsible for our version, to be able to function properly.
If the reason you want to go back is the launcher then there is an option to switch to the 4.1 launcher in the options, not sure where exactly but if you look a bit further down in this section you'll find someone else posting something about it.
And a last suggestion is that when you have a question better post it in the appropriate section

I am pretty sure he said that he is unlocked and running twrp, you can flash whatever rom you want from recovery but it will not bring back the ICS bootloader and the ability to have NVFLASH or even the 4.1 BL, so in reality he flashed a new rom and not actually downgrade to the previous state of the tablet.

That is actually correct, I dont know if itwill work in general but I previously had my OS rooted and backed up using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. The only thing that I did new from here on is
1. Backup an Nandroid using ADB Terminal Access -
Code:
adb backup –apk –shared –all –f C:\Android_Asus_4-2-1.ab
Ofcourse in-order to perform this feat you would need Android SDK Tools Package and Google USB Drivers installed on the drive
2. Perform the unlock bootloader using the apk found on the Asus Website
3. Flash Stock Rom that can be downloaded from Asus or here
using fastboot
4. Flash TWRP for JB using fast boot with help of link
5. Go into recovery Wipe Dalvik and Cache and Factory Restore
6. And boot!
Okay I know this is no GUIDE as I am press with time....I will try to make a proper one. but in all honesty I would just wait for the REAL DEV's to post the solution to 4.2.1

Hi,
I need to downgrade my tab as my touch doesn't work and need to flash other firmware it. It was told to me to downgrade and it should work, but was said I need TWRP because with CWM I could brick my tab. Without touch it's impossible to use TWRP. I have ulocked bootloader and rooted. Your guide doesn't seem to need of use exactly TWRP as Wipe Dalvik and Cache is worked when I rooted tab.
