Really confused on trying to find the latest and greatest ROMS.. - Droid X General

Coming back to my DX after being away for so long (moved to ATT and got infuse) and I am on Rubix focused 1.9.5, since GB has been popular on this phone for a while, thought I would try a GB rom, only to find....
One? GB rom on the forums? And I am only seeing liberty 1.5 (I thought it was well passed 1.5, also thought it had GB support, really wanted to try it out), I guess I am totally missing something about the DX. Can someone point me in the direction of the LATEST version of a few of the more popular DX ROMS? (apparently I am ****ing retarded lol)
Really appreciated X_X

Liberty GB, Apex GB, Cyanogen...there are several. However, XDA community participation at least for the DX has been pretty lax of late. Check out droidforums.net and droidxforums.com for more of the recent ROM activity.

droidmodderx.wordpress.com/
This is the website I've been using, they seem to have the most current roms. Look toward the right side of that page and you will find the "Ginger Bread Stuff" section.
I'm currently running Liberty 0.8 GB > droidmodderx.wordpress.com/rom-liberty-gingerbread-v-0-6-for-4-5-596/

All these ROMs

Having a hard time deciding what ROM to run, they seem pretty much all the same.
Anyone care to explain the difference? Or point me in the right direction what I feel would be the best for me?
cm 3.4.6 is quite stable and fast.
but without more info on what you looking for, no one but you knows whats best for you
I'm running the cyanogen 3.4.6 and it's awesome. It's optimized to be very fast. The ROM itself overclocks, or actually just correctly clocks the G1 to 528Mhz, so no need for the widget, and has extremely snappy menus, etc. It also supports multitouch zoom in and out in the browser...very cool! Try it...this ROM will make a noticable difference in performance. My G1 now BLOWS all my friends and even my old iPhone 3g away (my 3g even has a custom ROM on it!)
I'm also having a hard time choosing a ROM. I just want something fast and stable with apps2sd.
JF 1.51 is good if you just want a standard cupcake rom with root, nothing special.
Cyanogen builds (which I'm using at the moment) are built for speed and stability, but apps2sd on ext3 gave me so many problems.
Hero builds are only really for testing. Rosie looks great but is very laggy and both the hardware LED and bluetooth are broken. I only kept it for a couple of days.
I was just about to try one of haykuro's HTC magic ports when I came across this thread
been using jf's roms and have always been happy with them.
recently went to cm 3.4.6 and have to admit i'm impressed......really zippy
I would have to say that JF's roms, although not frequently updated or loaded with all the extras, are consistently the most stable and trouble free.
Cyanogen builds are extremely fast, have lots of extras, and are constantly being updated and upgraded. I would read though the comments to pick the version that best suits you. Always having the latest build is not necessarily the best idea. You'll have to decide which version to use.
TheDude! That's what I'm currently using, and I love it. There seems to have been a short period now where new updates that address the few remaining bugs have not been fixed. Not sure what's going on in regards to this, but using TheDudesCupcake.v1.3.beta12-signed.zip is working pretty much flawlessly for me. Note: That version is NOT the latest version. You'll have to search the thread (it's on the last few pages) for a link to get that version. It seems that's the stable pick of Dude's latest.
Hero ports: Tried them briefly, removed them promptly. Not ready for primetime, IMHO.
Google ION ports: I'd go with JF over ION right now. Not much in the way of development on the ION front, so nagging problems aren't getting fixed. At least that's been my experience.
Again, I'm on Dude's right now. I'm waiting for a replacement phone to be delivered sometime this week, and I'm not exactly sure if I'll use Dude's or Cyanogen's on the new phone. Or maybe even JF's. I plan on really putting the different builds through their paces on this broken down ole phone. Then I'll decide.
I highly suggest giving this chart a good look. It will help you decide...
http://www.simonwalkerphotos.com/android/android_build_information.asp
I'm using JAChero version 1.6b. I love the features but it is very slow and no bluetooth is a bummer. I'm waiting for a Class 6 SD card to see if that helps (class 2 now).

The previous post says it all. It was almost frustrating for me at first trying to decipher what was what. But a wise man once told me "...try all the different roms! Don't be afraid to experiment!". With the 1.4 recovery you can store several different roms on your sdcard, backup your current rom, wipe, flash a new rom to try it, wipe, flash a different rom to try that one, etc. If you decide that you didn't like any of those... just restore back to your previous backup. Simple as that. No pc needed. Thats when it becomes hella interesting.
Right after that the AndroidSpin ROM DB dropped. It kindof made things easier because most of the majors are laid out side by side. If my two cents matters... Cyanogen def top ranks in stability and speed. DudesCupcake and Soulife ION Remix worked liked butter for me too, the themes were a plus. Currently I'm wearing the lastest JACxROM. I'm a sucker for nice grafix. But hey thats just me, compared to alot of other cats around here, i don't know jackspit. Have fun.
I think the OP found a rom by now, look at the last post before gary.lavin brought this **** back from the dead....june 28th...someone has been going through EVERY damn page lol.

but it is so fun to go back 20 or so pages, find something that doesn't have a definitive answer then resurrect that mofo. i think i may (just to be a major ass) go to the last page of every sub forum and resurrect the last non locked thread lol. oh wait, that would take too much time away from doing something that matters lol. oh well.

Rom Choices

I know Many hard working folks are working on 2.0 and 2.1 to get a stable version usable..
My question is.. which of these two currently available working ROMs(1.5) is better/faster
Fresh(.7) or Modaco(1.2c)?
and Opinions, if any..
I think Fresh was a little snapier than MoDaCo.
Fresh has a different Look, MoDaCo seems to feel realativly stock, with some goodies placed into the rom.
I think its really just a matter of personal preference.
There is also a Gutted Rom lurking somewhere, it doesn't seem to get the same ammount of credit as these two. Not sure why, I haven't used it though. These 2 are the most popular.
EDIT:
MoDaCo 1.1 doesn't have the MR, Fresh .7 i think does.
Fresh has optimized apk's that other dont have. I think its way more then the optimizations pack running around.

[Q] FroydVillain or CronosFroyo?

I've currently settled down with CronosDroid 2.13 the last few weeks and it's been ok. A little unstable at times (OC to 670ish MHz) and keep having to kill tasks all the time but it's not bad I suppose.
I wanted to try Froyo out and was looking at FroydVillain and Cronos Froyo.
I will try them both myself, but I was wonder what you guys think of FroydVillain 1.4 vs Cronos Froyo 1.02?
Any particular positive or negatives?
Froyd over Cronos
Positives:
Active Development
Dedicated Support
Probably as simple as that really.
Just try Cronos once, then you will come to know !

and what exactly is he meant to do when (and it is definitely a when) something goes wrong?
I love you're argument - it is so based in faith that it is a superfluous statement. You haven't provided a single reason for the OP to use the rom aside from your own arrogance. Please provide something useful to the discussion or don't bother to post. (Edit: sorry to bash you but there are so many cronos users who have no idea what they are talking about and have never even tried another rom)
I would love to hear some genuine reasons for using Cronos (from users who have tried both, like myself) because I actually respected it as a rom, but I do believe with the most recent release of Froyo that the unsupported Cronos release is obsolete.

+1 FroydVillain
I think both are being actively developed and have dedicated support. The thing is all the roms are getting so good now that it really comes down to personal choice. Try both and see which one you like would be my advice.

What guys are you saying : Cronos = Hate, what's that ?
Try the 2 Roms and you will have your personal idea.
(Cronos have their site for support and it's very active)
O interesting news that the Cronos project is back. Just be careful as the developer hasn't released his source code (which is against the GPL agreement which the Android platform is a part of, and his linux code isn't available either - once again illegal...). But lets not get into that again.
If Feeyo is providing support on his site I would keep all discussion there as you won't find much favour for the project on XDA at the moment
Edit: I take that back, just seen info about his sources - will see how things work out, maybe Feeyo will come back to XDA in the future and things can move on
This new all makes my first post mostly superfluous now too. My advise is now to try them all (froyo builds) and see which one suits you the most.
Well I've had FroydVillain 1.4 installed all day.
Trying to get used to Launcher Pro... Its cool, but just different. The dock makes a lot of other short cuts obsolete! Maybe thats why it comes with 3 homes screens as default... no way you need 7 with that dock.
What a shame there aren't more icons for it.
I'll let you guys know what I think after a few days time.
Thanks for your input!
Boogwee try here:
http://launcherpro.droidicon.com/
try both and pick. i used cronos for longer as froyd seems to have constant fix-patches which may be good but seems bad.
that said, i'd recommend elelinux.

Doubt that. Personal opinion no real reason.

I agree which ROM is better has alot to do which what you like I personally like Cronos better but before there was Cronos I tried the Villain stuff but I PERSONALLY never really cared for their ROMs they always lagged with me but I haven't tried any of their newer ones so the problems I experienced are probably solved.

10char.....
I have only ever used the Cronos ones.
I thought about trying a villain rom once, but i don't like the way the devs waffle on like the wideboys of XDA, so i never tried it.
Before Froyo, i only ever used the SenseHero 5.1 roms, which after some previous searching, gave me links and messages from the VR team *****ing about Stickman,
Well I stuck with Cronos for a few weeks but the last update 2.14 slowed it waaaay down do instead of going back to 2.13 I thought I would try the new FroydVillain 1.5 and I have to say it's pretty awesome! SUPER fast.
I'm even getting used to Launcher Pro instead of sense..
Thanks for the link spamianspoon, that's an awesome site..
Hi guys,
my 2 cents:
I used Feeyos Rom from the beginning, cause for my felling they were the fastest.
Since Froyo is out, i tried both, Cronos and Froyd. Till release.. i thin it was 1.0.3 or something, i was not really happy with Cronos. So i tried Froyd, which was bette at this time, but not perfect. It's just a feeling that things in the Froyd Rom take a ( really just) little bit longer.
Since Cronos 1.1.0 my opinion is clear: Go and take Feeyos Rom. It's just as fast as no Rom before at my Hero. Everything is fast and responsive.
Ah but i know one thing i miss in the Cronos Roms: MORE THEMES If you want to have very much nice looking themes you should try Villain.
But since Computerfreak ported his theme to Cronos i'm happy again I think they will be more Themes in the future.
So my opinion: Cronos Froyo
Cheers
Froyd 1.5 would have to be the fastest rom. But then again I've never tried Chronos.
Gotta say ive found Cronos Froyo to be the fastest without lag.
Hopefully MrBang will release a froyo rom, as his 1.5 was the fastest rom ive used.
did someone try the cronos 1.1.1 and froyd 1.5?
bb.

What's up in the world of Android?

Hey guys and girls!
Sorry for the long absence. Divorce is... sticky. Ha.
So, I was coming back considering working on HappyRom again, I've seen a few other roms have taken some pieces of what I've done, which is great - also sad though because they've given themselves some of the same old issues I was working on fixing. On the other hand though, I've seen a lot of good stuff going on, new roms, new work, NEW DEVELOPERS!
So, someone give me the lowdown - whats going on, what's hot and what should I be working on?
Well you already have a request for a 2.2 sense rom above you in this thread. If its even possible right now.
sent from my superfroyo dream
Froyo on G1, that's hot! First AOSP released source code for Froyo, then Cyanogen started to work on it and when CM6 RC1 and nighlies was released, every dev started to release their ROMs based on CM6. In short - CM6 and it's modifications are hot.
If it's about Sense ROMs - nothing interesting, maybe ZXHero and Hero2G1 are still updated, I think everyone gave up on them since they are slow and newer firmware is available.
For me very nice work is what Firerat is doing - scripts! His MTD Partition Hack eliminates need of using Haykuro, since you can freely repartition your /system, /data and /cache partitions on your G1. You can also fake your SPL which is awesome, brick-free method of installing too big for stock layout.
His all-in-one script and a2sd (included in all-one) also rocks, they enable swap, a2ext and few other really handy functions.
Erm, I don't know what else. Maybe a new radio? 2.22.23.02 was released, for some it has better signal reception, for some worse, few reports way better battery life, while others see no difference.
Hope I helped, if you want more intel please ask .

Will 1.9 be updated any more?

now that 2.0.0 is out, will 1.9 be updated??
He was working on 1.9.1 but decided to scrap it for gingerstreak.
Sent from the Almighty Streak!
When i asked similar question to DJSteve on twitter, he respoded that he never promised that it would be a 1.9.1 (basically, i understood that as borijess said, that he did stopped working on Froyo updates because of GB). I think it's pitty, and that lot of people will rather have polished Froyo than unstable GB (at least, until GB is stable with all functions workling like in 1.9.0), but it's Steve's work, and we will support him and follow whatever he does...
Why??? Wait till 2.0 GB is a bit more stable and make the leap. I was there, but I am back on 1.9.0. As soon as 2.1 is out am leaving 1.9.0 behind.
Rebelsim work with 2.0? not moving from 1.9 otherwise
Ok, understand your concerns, sorry cannot answer your question. Have you asked in the 2.0.0 thread?
