Hi,
Phone info :
ipl : 3.08
SPL: 3.08
GSM: 01.12.10
OS : 4.0.0.0
Using a rom i upgraded a year ago.
So yesterday i decided to update my music on the phone, so not a big deal, but when i tryed to play 1 my telephone said it was out of memory and just went really slow, so i decided a reset, bad move.
After the reset it goes to the 2nd loading screen and just hangs there, i cant do anything.
When booting i can go into the screen with all the colors. (gotta press the cam button).
I already googled 2 days but cant find anything to fix this.
Any idea's ?? or is my phone dead ?
didnt remember this forum to be this dead.... any word ?
All my snarky comments about your misplaced impatience can be set aside for later abuse.
For now, here's how you fix it:
Charge on a wall charger with phone turned off. Verify green light before going any further (flashes don't work on less than 50% charge, and a full charge is the only way to be sure when you can't boot the OS).
Let it boot until it's stuck in bootloader mode (the three-color screen).
Hook it to a computer that you have previously synced to the phone with. Verify that "USB" appears in the bottom of the screen. If not, you're probably hosed.
Flash the ROM you loaded again (or get another ROM, doesn't matter...the one in my Sig is pretty nice, if you re-skin Manila after loading it). If you unlocked this phone before adding the ROM you last had, do NOT flash back to OEM ROM unless you can flash a ROM that removes the unlock (for G4, it's the Remove HardSPL procedure).
After that, you can stave off a lot of these kind of memory problems in the future by loading some kind of RAM indicator (QuickMenu has a built-in one, can manage running programs, and gives you a Windows desktop-style start menu for programs instead of the dumb endless folder parade) to let you know you have too many programs running, and you need to do a soft reset every once in a while, just to jog it clean. It also would be wise for you to load a cleaner to clear out your temp files...you'd be shocked how much crap piles up under the OS when you're not looking.
One last thing, do us a favor and put all your phone's info in your Sig...it helps others have a strong footing for making suggestions...not everyone would know off-hand that you have a G3 or a G4 without that info, and your problems can be made a LOT worse by someone offering the wrong answer based on not clearly identifying your hardware.
Hi,
First, Sorry for my impatient, it kinda sucked to have to go back to my old phone and recharge every 30 mins
In this impatiency (dont know if its a word but it sounds cool ) i found out my t-mobile contract was up for renewal, so i did that and ordered a new HTC Touch HD (will update my sig assoon as it ships )
So i guess ill fix this phone, and find a dutch ROM and give it to my dad, he's always working with excel etc and i think this is perfect
Thanks for your response and fix, sorry again for my impatience.
Sorry, double post, pretty slow forum lately
Well, technically I didn't do anything.
I just bought an HD2 off Craiglist, T8585, previously unlocked, so it would already play nice with my AT&T.
It had some SPB shell on it, so I went in to do a full data wipe and it reboots into something not stock-sense.
I attempted to boot into the bootloader and nothing happens--it just boots normally.
((Vol. down does work normally, mind you--the button is not broken.))
Any ideas as to what might be going on? I'm trying to see if they have the stock bootloader on this still, but the non-stock reset is throwing me off, as is the fact that I can't actually boot into the bootloader.
If I hold down both volumte buttons, I get a tricolor+white screen with an error, "Error: Copying file from SD Card failed, system will shut down."
Pictures attached to show current home-screen and error screen.
Thanks for your help.
Did you try without SD card? If there is something "flashable" on it, maybe your device tries to do something, but reading existing data fails.
My bro if im not wrong this hd2 seems like hd2 clone not original... so be very carefully when you try something with flashing ....

wats d purpose of you wanting to check bootloader ?
I assume all you want back is Sense UI ?
Sense UI would be a start, yes, but I would have liked to flash WP7 and/or Android onto it, too.
Emm, i think that thats not HTC HD 2, thats MKT HD2, a clone looks almost 1:1 compared to htc hd 2.

Simply go to Start--Settings--
home--Items--Check HTC Sense and uncheck all the rest
that should do...
also if it is an hd2 and you have wm on it there are many endkeys / apps that have a reboot into bootloader.

from looking at the picture, its hard to tell if it is a clone...if it is not an HTC HD2, but rather a clone, more photos of the device would clarify it. the body is not clearly visible in the two pictures you've attached.
if it is a clone, that would explain the little "surprises" you are encountering here and there
Further investigation yields that the hard-reset ROM does not have Sense stock, so I'm guessing that this is, sadly, a clone.
I had no way to tell at the time, as the previous owner had some shell installed and I couldn't tell from the body alone--it looks like a real one, and it was advertised (and had the box/materials of) a legit HTC phone...
Sucks that I've been scammed and that I'm out the amount I paid. First time I've ever been burned off CL.

how do you know its a clone ? may be the ROM is a NON-Sense D) ROM !!!
"MTKProfessional" is an appearance type on the phone. This, combined with the quirks and comparing it to a review of the "HD9" leads me to believe it's in fact a clone--and not even the pretty impressive v2 clone.
I'm disappointed, really.
it looks so real !
Holy ****, Vagues.
theres previous news & complain about the HD2 KIRF edition, almost look the same but weight & hardware quality is different.
try to get a refund

To be honest, I wouldn´t have noticed that you might have a clone just from the pictures you posted - but another poster discovered that fact.
Now, that´s what I call criminal - no less. A fake with a kind of a "phantasy" name is one thing, but to sell a copied device, which carries the real brand, as a real product, is indeed criminal. In my country, it´s even an official crime.
I´m sorry for you, mate. It´s not nice getting ripped off like this.
I wonder if you can't turn that guy in at the police.
I think you have all the evidence that he know this was a fake.
Also if you look at the loudspeaker grill (where you put your ear at), mine is black and this one looks silver.
seems like a clone to me. the sensors (light and proximity) are larger, and the bootloader screen is a bit different.
Hw do u know if one is a clone?
Hey guys I'm about to buy an HD2 on ebay and it reads this description :
when you start up the phone, it stops at the first screen and freezes... or sometimes stays on black screen.
so it could be a simple fix for repairs, or use for parts.
im winning the bid so now my question is. Is this a hardware problem or like i can restore it with a new rom and see if it works.
It could be either. If you do get it, my suggestion would be to install cLk or MaGLDR to bypass the bootloader - that would be the most likely thing that would be broken if it freezes. If they do work, then your phone should be fine.
Schweet man! Congrats I bet you picked it up at a decent price too.
First get the hd2 toolkit ( this this is invaluable when it comes to getting this baby where she needs to be!)
I would task 29 and start her out from scratch! Good luck !!!
Here's the link to the HD2 toolkit.
I bought a HD2 off ebay in 09 for $80 that was in mint condition with the same issues listed. Now i've learned a lot since then but at the time i could not get it working no matter what i did. I called HTC who repairded it for free since it was still under warranty. With that said you may run into some problems fixing this but I feel if you get the phone around $150 and under and you dont get it working you should still be able to resell it and get most if not all of your money back. There has always been a demand for this model phone so i would go ahead and buy it.

that depends a lot on whats wrong, those do not bypass the bootloader as such, they extend it, if the SPL is buggered then its buggered unless you can replace it.
your issue could be a number of things, it might just need a reflash, if at all possible get it in to the original bootloader, and SD card flash an original stock ROM for that device, that will overwrite everything.
Course if you cant get the bootloader working then unless you know someone that can connect it up and reflash it your looking at sending it away
another problem could be the RAM, or NAND, several times folk have run in to problems with these getting buggered up, if so your screwed.
On a side note I would ask about screen bleeding, on second hard devices you can sometimes get a lot of leakage through the screen from the back light making lighter blobs on the screen, this is very noticeable on light or white background, dark backgrounds doesn't really show to bad but its worth asking for... good luck!
Hey thanks guys for the reply. I picked it up for 65$ it's coming today free shipping and everything. I had a HD2 before but sold it for a iPhone 4 (Horrible Decision) So I picked up another one. The thing is with this HD2 it has no Rom, Radio information in the bottom left at boot up. I'm assuming it's Task29'd right.
Once you got it, we'll be happy to help
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Alright guys. Today I received my HD2 in the mail and I had one once before in the past. I bought this on Ebay claimed it was broken because it was stuck on the stick together screen I got it for 65$ and now I turned it on it was stuck there. I went to the bootloader it was SPL 2.08 and now I removed the battery but I can't get any response to turn on anymore. When I plug in a charger theres no orange led. I checked the back on the phone it looked like it was opened up before because the void label is all smashed but visible. Is it bricked? The seller said it would sometimes go stick together or stay black. I'm trying my best to turn it back on atleast to bootloader because I have no ****ing working USB to PC cable. and keep it like that till I get one. Any help?
Okay i just got it to turn on but I didn't get the chance to enter the bootloader just Stick Together. I have no clue if it's just random or the battery is going poop. I will try to get it to respond at least so I can enter the bootloader and find a working usb cable. It doesn't even say "Serial" when i enter it.
IT TOOK ME FREAKING FOREVER. But. I got it working on the bootloader with "Serial" SPL 2.10. I'm hopping this thing can stay on long enough to go get a working usb charger.

do you have anyPC- USB cables or USB mains charger.
it sounds like your first problem is the battery is dead, get it in bootloader and leave it plugged in, it takes ages but it will charge up assuming your charger is give it more than 200mA, failing that, get an external charger, to be honest with the current state of the HD2 and WP7 battery usage its worth while getting a charger an second battery any way!
I have recently acquired a htc hd2 T8585 which has Android 2.3.4. installed on the NAND flash memory. I wish to install the stock win 6.5 rom or experiment with some of the other roms but ive hit a brick wall. Every how to and piece of infomation ive read about the subject refers to the red, green, blue and white bootloader screen that you reach by pressing the volume and power buttons a certain way. This bootloader is not on my hd2, instead it has android recovery mode which consists of six options:
1.reboot system now
2.apply update from sdcard
3.wipe data/ factory reset
4.wipe cache partition
5.backup user data
6.restore user data.
Theres also a empty 16 GB micro sd card and ive tried finding out how to do it that way as well but all options require the original bootloader.
Basically it seems i can't do jack without the bootloader.
Has anyone enccounterd this problem? Any ideas?
help much appreciated
law 180
the real bootloader will still be there, the phone cant work without it. What you are seeing is a secondary bootloader.
phone off
press hold and keep holding vol-down (not vol-up)
tap and release power
keep holding vol-down
stripey screen should appear.
if it doesn't, you have a fault.
Factory mode
Hey samsamuel thanks for the reply. After following your instructions the phone went into an android factory mode istead of recovery mode and after running some tests displayed these options:
Factory mode
1.Full test
2.Item test
3.Test report
4.Clear flash
5.Version
6.Reboot
I still can't see how to install a new rom from this point. Any ideas?
Thanks.
hmmm,, doesnt sound like an HD2 to me, , , fake chinese import? wrongly identified device? got a photo of it?
Whatever your device is, it's not an HD2 I'm afraid. I'd agree with samsamuel, pics might help.
Its definitely a HD2 and im now guessing probabley a chinese copy, though the phone feels pretty solid but i don't have a lot of expirence in these matters. Under the battery it says HD2 T8585 and its made in Taiwan also has a imei number etc Here are some photos, sorry about the quality.

Yep, that's a copy. The sensor in the first pic (on the top left) is far too pronounced and the stuff under the battery is different to the one under mine. Also, I don't know if it's just me but the bezel seems a little too big as well. Sorry, but this isn't an HD2.
yea that orange charge light is way out of position, (thats about where the proximity sensor should be, the orange light should be inside teh earpiece grill, tucked into teh left corner.) , its a good copy, though, if it is , there were some terrible ones a year or two back.
Ah to bad, thanks for the help guys. Luckily i didnt pay anything for it, tempted to buy a real one now.
Hello HD2 users. i need some help from your possible experience (this might be a bit long to read, sorry)
I got a disassembled HD2 from a friend, which didn't have lcd/digitizer. I took it to a shop in my country which is an expert with htc phones (called htc solutions ). they said they will test the mainboard. if it works, they would put a digitizer and an lcd.
after a week i called back and they said the mainboard wasn't working so i took it back (still disassembled, no lcd/digitizer).
i got bored while studying for exams, so i tried assembling some stuff and testing it. apparently i connected the bottom buttons, the volume buttons, in-call mic and vibrator. i can tell that because i put a battery on the pins, plugged a usb in and it vibrated!
so i tried again... worked again.
then i hold down volume buttons, connected to usb and it was recognized. i even flashed ruu while holding battery with my hands.
then it rebooted, after some time while still connected to usb, orange led went on. after some time too, green one did (it's my other hd2 battery which was charged completely). device was recognized by pc again. i ran windows mobile device center, it showed hd2, asked to register etc...
i decided to try a custom rom, and flash worked and same thing happened.
now, in order to get activesync/wmdc to connect, the phone must completely boot right?
i asked them on their fb page, they said that it didn't work with them, and the expert said it stucked on htc screen.
and since it booted with me and connected to wmdc, then it booted right?
i couldn't test sound because i must put the back cover right? and i'm not expert, even connected the stuff inside the phone without watching tutorials/asking.
they said they can add the digitizer and lcd on my responsibility, (90$) so should i go for it?
also, does android boot if not all hardware is present? i tried to execute clrcad and haret in both roms (ruu and crossbowHD2 wm6.1), but never got adb to connect. i wanted to test clk and fastboot for android, but didn't have time
Yes Windows would need be booted but perhaps the stuck HTC screen was far enough for WMDC to recognise the device.
If it did indeed reflashed fully things sound promising.
Have you tried installing MyMobiler on your PC as allows you to view HD2 screen image on notebook, needs push file to device but can't remember if any interaction is needed on HD2 but worth a try.
Can you see your device in Windows explorer & view content of phone storage ?
Personally I would be inclined to buy a pre assembled lcd/digi combo (around 30USD)or lcd & digi separately if want save a little more & test it myself & rebuild it after reading some tutorials as will save yourself some dosh ($) if things are not 100% & should be able to resell parts to recoup outlay.
Thanks for your reply.
today before going to exams i downloaded and installed my mobiler and booted it. after connecting usb, (still on wm6,1 due to that ruu has install restriction policies for security, and wants me to confirm installation and launch of exe's afaik) my mobiler started installing on the phone automatically. and it showed the screen!
i saw that there was no sim card (cuz there was not) and pressed cancel in winmo, i got to home screen. so it works right? there's no way that pc could control the hd2 and get to homescreen if the screen is stuck on htc logo.
edit: i forgot, yes, i could browse nand or sdcard if connected from windows explorer. it seems very normal
oh, and i'm not gonna try to flash HSPL it's already flashed cz custom rom worked, and not safe at all since i have to keep holding battery with my hands for it to stay on )
Sounds good so far. Due to fact your HTC specialists don't appear to be too special I would recommend commencing with repair yourself.
Rebuilding the device with a pre built lcd/digi assembly is very easy & almost foolproof if you use this forum & research tutorials & do the job right & with a lot of care.
You will save a serious amount of cash & have the knowledge & feeling of achievement of doing the repair work yourself.
well, i can't find any digitizer or lcd replacemet in my country and can't order them, the reason i went to htc specialists.
but i'm not that sure i will come to them. if android boots fine, i might use ubuntu or make something with it
link below ship to Lebanon if you could get around ordering or have someone do it on your behalf.

well, i may know someone who could order from ebay so i might do this after all. i think i'm missing the volume buttons, but the htc solutions store would give it to me at no cost. i love these guys but they're a complete rip-off.
i will see some tutorials on xda and the internet. if i find i'm capable of assembling it, i will do it
Thanks a lot for your help and your support, ( out of thanks ) :good::highfive:
make sure you order the right one, because there are 2 types of connection:
1st plug and play, 2nd with soldering. This is a piece of cake, I repaired mine recently with use of screwdriver and knife. Youtube has good tutorials "htc hd2 disassembly"

Not an issue when replace lcd/digi as a combo as they are already paired & it always best go for the plug/socket connector type. LCD to mainboard ribbon is same on them all.
not an issue actually because i got the button board's cable cut accidently (i feel so ashamed) and 90% i'm gonna leave it for spare parts for the working leo i have
Button board is only 3 to 4USD at the most & could probably be ordered same time as screen assembly. Only really worth doing if need 2 working handsets or want sell it or something otherwise keeping as spares is worthwhile but expect first thing you will need is a working digitizer lol
