Hi guys, I will get new phone and I don't know, if I should hope for unlock bootloader for M2 and for new devs, or I should buy Desire Z with ****ty keyboard or I should buy some phone (I will get money back because my phone is third time on repairing) and sell it for some money. Can you help me?
hey there, M2 is not really bad phone, there iss currently a developer working on bypassing the locked bootloader (Mikevhl), also there is a new version of cooked ROM coming from santiemanuel. There were some leaks about GB coming for M2 and unlocking the bootloader in Q3 this year It's not a bad phone, I love my keyboard, the speed and performance all together, decent phone for decent price with the best qwerty keyboard! I had M1 before and I miss a bit cyanogenmod but still, the younger brother can kick harder cause of better hardware.

I recommend you to wait for Milestone 3 to be sure to get Gingerbread or better.
Don't talk to me like I have didn't been here . I am reading whole MM2 section about a 5 months. Nothing changed, Angroid still ****in on us, AOSP ROM can't be finished because bootloader, Mike still didn't finded a solution and we still have only 1 Custom ROM. Keyboard is really great instead of Desire Z'es one. I can only wait to October this year, and in that fact, I think it will be introduced only Droid 3 and not Milestone 3. Also It will be quite expensive and I am student and I don't want to spend so much money for just a phone.
It will be a global version so you can buy it in the US and using in other countries. I think 459$ in the USA isn't really much

Nopes, you shouldn't buy a Milestone2 cause Motorola sucks really bad on updates and locked bootloaders. If the keyboard isn't that important to you get a Nexus S. You can get used to swype in no time.

I agree with you.
I'd say get a DZ and the keyboard/hinge are actually awesome! I had my doubts at first.
Now I'm chilling on the MT4G waiting on the slide version which should be insane!

Ok now with the release of froyo im kind of regretting my purchase. I also bought it sort of over priced. Does anyone know any way to return it and get your money back? Ive had it for around a month.

It does what the box says its meant to do and that hasn't changed since you bought it. You can't get a refund on something you bought just because some other company brought out a different product that you like better.
Sell it on eBay, you'll get most of your money back.

I hear you buddy. I've purchased the nexus one after about 1 month of owning the x10. I too believe I made the wrong choice. I'm probably going to sell the x10 after 2.1 update pedigree I need the money.

There won't be root on the X10 anytime soon or ever. The X10 isn't a popular device means less People work on it to archive Root. SE even doesn't care to provide us with up to date updates. 2.1 in Q4 , common :-D
I also going to sell my X10 , the Hardware isn't so good as i thought and the lack of updates + the non ability of having Root does the rest.
it seems we are in about the exact same position. how is your experience of the n1?

Sell it on ebay.
I hate saying the same thing in every thread but you knew froyo was coming to the N1 soon and that the x10 wouldn't get a serious update for a long time.
I had the N1 on 2.1 and returned it. No regrets. It was a fast phone (i hate laggy phones) but other than that I wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be. 2.2 is nice with flash but it's not making me run back to the N1.
can anyone tell me the difference between getting 2.2 through se vs through root? it feels like 2.2 from se is out of the question.
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Through root, it's a custom made ROM, so whoever developed it can put whatever features in it. For example, they can make it look like HTC's SenseUI, and whichever version of Android they want.
Have faith, I would love android without sense and all that crap. 2.2 just like N1 would be great. I'm hoping for root in a couple of weeks or I'll probably sell my X10 too... But it's the most beautiful phone out there, miles and miles prettier than Desire and Nexus one put together my friends have both so I've tried both.

SE hasn't announced 2.2, only 2.1. So for us x10 users, right now we can only dream of 2.2.

IF the x10 ever get rooted, it will become a much superior phone. I can not believe the difference in speed just between a 2.1 n1 compared to the x10. Everything was as smooth as silk and not once will you experience any lag and dropped frames. Froyo n1 is another story though, the horsepower of the phone is just improved by many multitude and it renders websites or flash videos much better than my netbook ever could. When I first got the x10, I almost went back to my iPhone 3gs because of how sluggish the phone was, but I decided to give Android a 3rd chance and bought myself a n1. 3rd time is indeed the charm, and that phone is everything I've ever wanted from a cellphone. In conclusion, if you guys wait for 2.1, the x10 will be an awesome phone compared to what it is now, but if you are not willing to wait that long, purchasing the Nexus one would make a great decision.
Regardless, even with the update for x10, its users will still want the other update that brings even better performance.
So in the short and long run x10 users will be hoping and waiting for updates while other phones won't have to hope or wait thatong for improvements.

I've been wrestling with the idea of returning this too. However the first time i went to sell it. They annouced two updates one of them was should have been released by now, the other was set for Q4.
I kept hold of it thinking that they would come good, but the more and more I have it now the less I believe that that will be the case.
With all the comments on the blog and the petition, I think they may announce all the required bug fixes and android updates, with multitouch on the X10's successor.
The X10's rep is not good at the mo and im not sure that they will be able to recover it.

Any reason... Hmmm... Is your Desire broken????
There are plenty of reasons to own an X10. However I would read a construtive list of its short comings before you purchase.
If you bought the X10 based on its advertised spec you may be disappointed
when you come to use it.
The software features it boasts are not quite up to par in certain areas.
I also think coming from a HTC who are pro's in the android Device Market, You will be more critical of this device. HTC have had time to perfect Sense for there handsets.
If you were prepared to wait though the proposed updates may change this device completely.
Thanks for the feedback. My desire is working brilliantly and very happy with it, the main reason I'm considering x10 is because I'm getting it for £210 only used 4 few days. Is that a good price? This will be sort of backup handset.

All the HTC devices get custom roms 2 or 3 days after they are rooted.
Optimus 2x got its first custom rom 24h later
Arc...huhuhu
Really guys if we didn't have the big help of external dev(who haven't the Arc) to let us root the Arc we would still be waiting for it.
I am beginning to be afraid the Arc will not see soon any custom roms, we simply don't have any dev here
I sold the N1 because I trusted the Arc to have roms after its rooted, but I am afraid that even the SGS2 will have one before us...and that really piss me off
Sorry if I look too impatient but after the custom roms experience on N1, I hate to stay with the same rom too long

I think you have to forget custom roms for the ARC. there are no devs which is interested in this device. This is actually very sad, i have said this before in another thread and some people think i am crazy.
I mean look at the member views in the dev thread, there are not many, it is always between 30-40 viewers. That's not a good sign.
I am strongly thinking about a SGSII,
SGS2 is very good but I feel more attracted to HTC DHD or Sensation...in case nothing changes for the Arc.
You never go wrong when an HTC is rooted over XDA

I am not thinking about HTC anymore because of the bootloaders
Rumors are saying that only the Incredible and Desire S will have this horrible thingy, as for Sensation nothing is sure yet.
Some people will have it on May 12 so we just have to wait and see
By the end of May we would know if the Sensation is the new XDA messiah or not
Only a couple of weeks but it's killing me!
Who knows perhaps Paul Obrien will release a rom for the Arc next week, I understood he's planning to buy it too, but in another hand SGS2 will take all of his free time
What i am afraid of is when the SGS2 come(alot of people have it now) no one will look in to the arc and that what scares me off.
will wait for a custom rom but if the sgs2 arrived and got custom roms then arc wont get one. and i might think of getting the SGS2 later on.

Maybe, are you planning on producing one this year?
I too look forward to custon roms, but I wouldnt say im pissed becaise other devices may get one 1st, if its so annoying learn how to compile one for yourself and post it.
Oh I wish I had the knowledge to do it!
I would port Sense...
Some stats: 257 downloads for my modded statusbar.
It's even higher than what I got with the same mod in N1 section for the same amount of time!
So I deduce that we have lot of Arc users here but we just need devs with linux knowledge...and that's the main problem!
Even X10 devs are gonna buy the SGS2 or Sensation
I feel like I bought an iphone, many users but no dev!
I have exams over the next three weeks, but I might have a go at porting cyanogenmod afterwards - if recovery is sorted out. The only problem I have is that this is my main phone and obviously I don't want to brick it!

Agree with this i think if we have recovery it will much easier to play with roms. right now i want to make a nand so i can always go back if something fails.
That's what frighten me!
Bin4ry hasn't an Arc and he made us a great service with rooting, now he's working on an Incredible S/Sensation root.
Paul Obrien has a Play and was willing to buy an Arc but he doesn't show any sign of caring for us
Devs feel the Arc like an amateur phone so they don't buy it.
When the SGS2 will be released worldwide and the Sensation right after, you can be sure nobody will ever think about the Arc
Well if all goes wrong there is help making roms so if recovery is done ill buy a laptop and try do it my self probably cyanogen we shall see tho. But I cant believe no one is a Dev on arc really

Right, but first of all X10 took sometimes to have a developers till June 2010 even though people were there but wasn't serious till then.
Second, X10 had issues like OS was outdated a many more but arc barely has any issues (at least to me). Only thing people like to see to me is stock android or CM7? well, more people will show up here. Soon...
Eventhough I do think you have a point I do believe we will get some. And when the first one managed to get a fully working ROM and share his knowledge, I am convinced more will follow. For now my default rom is functioning fine. I really don't have the brains to make a ROM, so I am patiently sitting in the waiting room....

So today i read some articles about the new Desire C ( dutch articles most of you wouldn't understand them but google is your friend )
So basicly this is some sort of Wildfire type phone. Low specs. And guess what. It is rocking ICS.
I don't understand why HTC is bringing out this low spec phones with ICS and not updating the Desire Z with ICS.
Yes it is probably because of sense 3.6 being to heavy for our phone.
But as i recal there once was a HTC Desire who was not supposed to get a Gingerbread update and it still got it because the users were not satisfied with HTC behaviour on this.
So basicly my point is. We need to let them hear our voice on this and go ahead and sign those petitions that were started weeks ago if you did not do this then.
Many thanks!

I know that and I did not state that it is not. You were probably confused with my 3.6 statement. HTC is not updating older phones with sense 4.0 but with 3.6 and that is why we won't get the update. It is simply to much for this phone. But we could get a slimmed to version of 3.6.

Why do people say they "should"? They shouldnt do ****. Back in the WAY old days, phones were never updated. These updates are free and they do it because they want to. They arent forced to do anything.
And you people obviously do not run a business or know how it runs. Here is a hint: PROFIT. Why would I, a phone maker, update my old models when I can simply release a Desire Z 2 (for example purposes) with the only difference is that it has ICS and sell it for 400 and lower the Desire Z 1 at 200? Thats called smart business because everyone wants the new model and if they cant afford it, they can go for the old one.
NO COMPANY IS FORCES OR SHOULD PUT OUT UPDATES. They release updates because they want to.
IMHO, i find it unfair that DHD users are getting their ICS upgrade while we are, well, most probably not even though both the DHD and DZ are launched concurrently.

A little detail i have to fix in your post... HTC never said anything about releasing a new phone with a hardware keyboard, they should update their latest because there will be no more newer version (unless the One Z is real... Which is not)...
———————————————
i didn't mean to flame you, nor to mock you in any kind of way
probably HTC did hte math and decided that neither a new Z phone or updating the old one was worth it...
We can keep asking .. you'll never know!
But You'll have to agree with the fact that is all just about money...
The whole argument with "phones did not get updated in the past" is kind of stupid. Phones are not what they used to be. It is not just a phone anymore it is a pocket computer.
Also they also did it with the desire so if we try hard enough maybe we can get official ICS.

Probably we won't be seeing a successor to the Desire Z. And that is just sad. But I used my friends' note and typing on it wasn't that bad. The general trend is moving away from h/w keyboards.
I doubt there will be an ICS version for our Desire Z ever. Cause where is the attraction of buying a new one WITH ICS?
I´m running my two DesireZ with Andromadus beta ICS for a while now and I have the feeling of having a new mobile in my hands. So I gave up the thought buying a new one That's exactly what they do not want..
Mike
I don't care much for ics as gingerbread has all the features I need, and unless there is a flawless ics rom why bother. I won't get a new phone (if my g2 breaks ill buy a used g2 from ebay) fact is that many g2/dz may not get another htc phone when theirs goes bad for many of us want a hardware keyboard. So why not move on to something else especially if they get a discount with a new contract. Untill we see a comprable yet updated phone from htc with a hardware keyboard they will probably loose more money than if they just released ics for our phones in the meantime while the g3 is being built. In the sense that we will keep these untill the g3 comes out. The g1 was the absolute best phone untill the g2, if there isn't a g3 then another company will certainly make the best phone and even the die hard htc fans (me included) will change our minds.
Just my take...

As the GS3 is out, the GS2 will be dropping in price. I'm toying with the idea of jumping ship. I'll be keeping the DZ as spare as I do everytime I change.
Just wandering if anyone feels this a bad move. The GS2 section is highly active with native ICS and lots of good devs I know from my days with GS1.
The only thing preventing me is the amazing development going on here. This is by far the most active forum I have been a part of.
Unless someone wants my DZ of course
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
personally, I'd buy the DZ again if it where to break today... All those new and shiny smartphones are great, however I really love the hardware keyboards and dislike the onscreen keyboards (I've tried many). I am hoping/waiting for a newer smartphone like the DZ! (If any manufacturer where to release a smartphone with a Meamo derived OS and a hardware keyboard, I'll buy it on pre-order!)
I know what you mean. HW keyboards are good. My tab is a asus transformer with keyboard dock. I don't mind the onscreen kb's on phones. I regularly use the DZ in portrait mode.
Just feel like a change and the GS2 is still a top spec phone. I realise it sounds like I'm trying to convince myself. I'm actually trying to convince myself not to
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Edit: I agree with you on meamo with a keyboard. Had a go on a nokia N9 and its was great.
If you are trying to convince yourself to NOT get a new phone: Do you actually *need* a new phone? Or do you just want to have another new gadget to fool around with?
Hmm you caught me I am a bit of a serial gadget swapper. The DZ is one of longest I've had a phone (got it in sept). Its the fifth android device I've had in 2 years. All of which I've rooted etc. You're right, I don't NEED a new phone. I am on a sim only contract purely so I can swap to whatever I want.
Do you think we will get much better performance out of the DZ? I can't help but think we are getting the best possible out of this.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I will buy One X, but I will use Desire Z as my tablet, I will flash AOKP in tablet mode, and voila! It will be pretty hard to don't have a keyboard, but I don't need the keyboard on 4.7 screen, I've tried to write something on the onscreen keyboard, and it was almost as DZ, but it will never be the same.

I will be on board with the sgs3 as soon as tmobile gets it. My contract is up in august so should be just in time. Can't wait. The hw keyboard is a thing of the past for me. I got. Motorola RAZR on an offer I couldn't refuse. Its lame that moto haven't pushed out ICS yet but I am running a leak that came out a couple of weeks ago. It runs great and I'm really happy.
In the long term I will probably change to whatever nexus device comes out in the autumn. Or the galaxy s3.
Going to pop in here from time to time as I have given my dz to my dad to see if he likes having a smart phone. He'll probably keep it and get a new battery for it.

So in light of the following news are HTC going to bring out something special or just quietly dye by the way side?

Bear in mind the current fiasco with ICS and the Desire HD.
So are you going to jump the HTC ship?
Ya well, the one series was a miss with consumers at large ,can't imagine what would have happened if the one x for example had sd card storage and a battery access
We can only hope they die a quick but painful death.
... unless they release ics source code then i don't care what they do.

I am already planning my jump over to Samsung rightly or wrongly, but they are talking about launching JB on the S3 and even the S2 in the very near future! And from what I have seen they seem to deliver what they say!
Well I wouldn't want them to die, afterall competition is always good, however I've decided that my DHD shall be my last HTC phone after all that has happened. I'm contemplating on waiting for the next Google phone, immediate updates and a bugless AOSP experience, what else could one ask for?
That is what you get when you mess with all the HTC Desire HD owners!!! Not releasing ICS for their most sold phone and telling their costumers lies about HTC Desire HD performance. And the same with HTC Desire.

Agreed, I cant believe they would release such a retarded phone and a clear attempt to copy the iPhone business model.
I'm due upgrade now but think ill just stick with my DHD.
They should have concentrated all efforts on savage battery life combined with expansion of mem.
That is the general consensus I am feeling form this thread

It’s a shame that a company with a lot of promise has now just peed of its fan base and almost washed their hand of them.
If you look at the number of ROMs in the development thread you can see that people pretty much rooted their HTC Desire HD as soon as they got them as the hardware far out preformed the software that was loaded and any potential update (although we all knew these wouldn’t come to light! lol )

Don't forget Samsung is from South Korea, so why keep spending money on SK if you know that "everyone" in SK has a Samsung phone :silly:
I hope they won't cancel the ICS update for developers. They had the same problem with Gingerbread update for the Desire.
They never released it as an OTA update, but they released it for developers.
So let's hope they do the same with Desire HD (in the future).
About One-series. It's indeed a sad story, but I think why most people didn't bought the One-phones was because most of them were probably waiting to see the Galaxy SIII and it seems that the SIII is the number one choice now for lots of Android users.
That or the New Galaxy Nexus (fingers crossed it won’t be produced by HTC) that will ruin the Nexus name IMO

Why would HTC ruin it? I like HTC's hardware
1 months ago I planned to buy the One X along with one of my best friends and I almost sell my DHD (it even already entered the "For Sale" thread in one of Indonesia's largest community forum). But after I read so much informations from early adopter of One X about how bad is the HTC's quality control over One X hardware productions I hold my decisions to upgrade because I don't wanna spend my time dealing with HTC service center.

Tierd of htc, they were the best option when i bought my dhd. The new one series cant beat s3 imo. Im going for nexus next, nothing beats (not even s3) the new android stock interface.
