Hey all,
Seeing as the 3.1 update seems to be doing the rounds, i thought id go back to my backup made by cwm when i first rooted the device.
It seems i am constantly getting md5 mismatch! when i try and flash the backup,
wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
Cheers

Sounds like the backup is corrupted.
I am not 100% sure about this, but I am assuming that when a backup was completed, the backup app did an MD5 hash. When you go to restore it, it does another MD5 hash to make sure the backup hasn't been modified or corrupted. The MD5 hash is different, so it has been changed/corrupted and is no longer usable. Sorry.
thats what i feared.
Oh well, ill have to make a new one now and try it, just outta interest, maybe my SD card
Those interested in getting back their OTA, properly backing up their original ROMS or restoring them, please follow the tutorials in this thread:
Going back to stock TUTORIAL
Be helpful and provide your firmware if you have a backup so we can build a database for those who don't.
Be sure to report what is working and what is not working for you once you've tried the tutorials!
Unlike the 14 threads on these matter I take the responsibility as OP to upgrade my original post as firmwares and new info becomes available.
After a bit of fiddling last night, found out the SD card was knackered, managed to flash stock 3.1 from:

I've been messing with my Hero's data settings and in an effort to restore the data profiles and all EVDO/Data settings to default, I installed Android 2.27.651.6 because I saw that there was now a "How to get Root" thread for 2.1. What I didn't see is that you should INSTALL 2.27.651.5!!!
Now my phone is not letting me revert to 2.27.651.5 because of a Signature Error 132. I need to revert to 1.6 so I can once again get root. How do I do this? Can I just install the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release file I downloaded? I've heard if you install an RUU that doesn't match your radio, you could brick your phone...so I'm trying to avoid that.
I KNOW that you're supposed to be able to revert to 2.27.651.5....so don't tell me "why don't you just install version 2.27.651.5". It doesn't work. I get a signature error. I don't know why...all I know is I'm now stuck on 2.1. Here's my version information. I think when I originally rooted the phone when it came with 1.6, I created a nandroid backup. Can I use any of the data on my SD card to restore back to 1.6? Please help!
Firmware - 2.1-update1
Baseband - 2.42.01.04.27
Kernel - 2.6.29-bc0d2cff
Build - 2.27.651.6
Software - 2.27.651.6

Try downloading the RUU again and making sure the MD5 checksum matches. That error can be related to a corrupt file. Have you tried booting into recovery and restoring your nandroid?
I've downloaded the RUU twice...from both links, but haven't checked the MD5. Both give the same error. Is there another mirror for the RUU?
I haven't tried restoring my Nandroid. I'm very new to Android hacking and am not even sure how to do that. I'm pretty sure I have a Nandroid backup, but how can I tell for sure and how would I do that? Is that the power on/action/back button pressed menu?
I really appreciate the help!
try booting into recovery as said before. power off your phone then hold the home key and hit power to turn it back on, continue to hold home untill HOPEFULLY you get your recovery (blackscreen with green letters) if you get that then you just go to the backup/ restore option and choose restore, if you have any backups of 1.5 on your sd card then they will show in there.
When I hold down the home and power buttons, I get a cell phone picture with a red cross through it. So I don't think that's gonna work. Any other ways to restore a nandroid or to revert to earlier ROM? Please help!
I have no idea why, but I gave it a rest all day, downloaded the same .5 RUU from roms-shipped and its working. I checked the MD5s and they all match. Who knows. I'm just glad it seems to be working! Now I can root again!!
Any idea how to restore factory Sprint data/wap settings?

Just got a problem when im flashing a new Kernel
Can anyone tell me what should i do now?:crying:

Nothing, an MD5 check is only so the PC can cross-reference the download to see if it has downloaded correctly.
For example, a download may have an MD5 of - 1122334455AA
If your download gets corrupted, it may have - 1122334455AB
Therefor the MD5 is wrong and the download is corrupt.
It will not affect your flash, it should just skip the check and carry on.
If the flash has gone wrong, perhaps the download is corrupt.

I do not believe .....!
I deleted everything in RECOVERY what can I do now ...
I have no system on the device and the device does not connect to my computer!
Hello all
So I have been doing some flashing and I wanted to restore to the original stock ROM that I made a backup of (via TWRP) right after I rooted my device using the Casual tool in the dev forum but I had a question just to make sure I don't botch anything before I go for the restore:
I am coming from CleanROM 1.5 the MF3 based ROM -- I'm assuming the ROM didn't touch the bootloader
1) I performed an Odin recovery of the I337UCUAMDB baseband version of the OS (factory) from the Dev Forum
2) My original backup was of the I337UCUAMDL baseband version -- Am I able to perform a TWRP restore without causing any problems here?
3) Do I have do Loki-Doki after I restore?
I would try this myself but I really don't want to risk a hard brick in case this isn't the correct way - thanks for the advice in advance all.
An Alternative to this would be to obtain the Odin PDA file for the I337UCUAMDL baseband firmware which I have been unable to locate
Alright well I just went ahead with the restore and The baseband version stayed the same despite the fact that the backup was originally from the MDL baseband. Is there anywhere I can download the Odin file to flash the MDL firmware?
No one's helped me with my problem, so might as well help you out lol! Here's a link for MDL http://storagecow.eu/Xda/AT&T S4/St...s.com-SGH-I337-ATT-I337UCUAMDL-1367050591.zip Flash with Odin
I just did some digging around and actually found this awesome website and I am downloading the MDL right now
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I337&pcode=0#firmware
I do believe that this is legitimate - if not someone please correct me. Have 2 hours until the download is finished anyways lol

Thanks for the offer -- but as long as the steps are essentially the same as Adam's Factory Stock thread in Android Development then I should be alright! I'm assuming that is the case

they should be (post a link ill check).via ODIN, install UCUAMDB, then UCUAMDL, root and install custom recovery, and freeze the update processes (i forget what they are called, im looking for them now) with titanium backup so that it does not auto update to MF3.
if you happen to know the process names or find them, please PM me im making a thread about it.

Yes, Currently have the MDB installed and running, going to enter download mode and flash MDL via ODIN and basically my plan was to freeze the AT&T auto-update checker application - I have frozen it before and I'm guessing that is the first application in the chain that initiates the update. I'll keep ya posted the MDL is still downloading lol

When you finish downloading and flash firmware by oding go ahad and root ifno here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494 then install GooManager from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&hl=en open and from menu choose install script. good luck

The firmware from (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I337&pcode=0#firmware) was spot on. Used Odin to restore. Already re-rooted and froze a few of the update apps. Thanks all for the help, added [Solved] and altered the title to help guide searches
hi guys, i really messed up this time, for some reason i lost my efs backup, and for some reason i flashed an XXDMG based rom, and i got the fake imei error, so i done some research and flashed the new modem that solved the issue, once that happened i also backed my efs up which i have sitting on my desktop in .img form.
So i went on 2 flash a 4.3 rom and all i was getting was errors,so i odined a stock rom XXALJ2, and ive just been getting this factory error, id love to restore the efs but the damn /efs wont mount, and i always get an error along the lines of write error or something, in the frustation of the moment i done a stock odin (xxalj2) and ticked phone efs clear, and still, nothing is happening - its the same old error - the efs didnt even clear.
So now i have a phone in factory mode, with no signals and i honestly have no clue what to do next,.
Any help will be much appreciated.

no luck, that did not work thanks for suggesting that
upon trying to terminal the efs backup into place i get the write error, its killing me
So, my Note 3 N9005 worked fine, then i tried to install CM 12 The phone kept locking so i tried to install CM 12.1 instead. It did the same thing. Then i tried to install CM11. Phone got stuck to a bootloop. Then i tried to install the stock firmware. It launched but the phone lags like hell, apps don't open at all. Waking up the phone takes a lot of time. And the phone doesn't recognize the sim-card anymore. I used CWM to install all the custom roms, and i wiped cache, dalvik cache and did a factory reset every time before i installed a new rom. I used Odin v. 3.04 to flash the stock firmware.
So my question is this, how do i get my phone back up and running smoothly again, like it was fresh out the box? I'll appreciate all the help i can get because i am starting to get very desperate, i really wouldn't like to tell my mom i need a new phone. Note 3 cost like hell after all.
I am from Finland so i used the N9005XXUEND5 version of the stock firmware, KitKat 4.4.2.
The only thing i can think of that can cause this problem is that if the OS's i installed didn't get deleted fully, so there would be multiple OS's on my phone running at the same time. This may be a bit far fetched.
Please help as fast as possible. And i'm not that good at these things so i would appreciate if you could walk me through this step by step and explaining each step as specifically as you can.
Judging from your post, you didn't even bother to read the install instructions of the roms you were flashing.
And this is the result you get.
In CWM recovery mounts and storage format sdcard system cache data preload .
Reboot to download mode and flash stock rom .
The last time i flashed the stock ROM I formatted everything, including the firmwares and such. Now i flashed AOKP ROM and the phone is working fine, except it doesn't recognize the sim card. Any idea how to fix that. Thanks for all the help so far
Basics check you have correct IMEI and correct modem change sim card .
I'm sorry, i have no idea what IMEI and correct modem change sim card. :/
If you don't understand the very basics of flashing and firmware then i suggest you take your phone to a repair shop .Its not a game you are going to end up with a dead phone with no chance of a fix .
I think i understand the very basics of flashing, considering i have done it before twice and on both times it has worked. My sim card worked on my moms Lumia, so is it possible that the sim card reader broke. Can flashing a rom or formatting system do that? Are there a kernel i should flash? I heard it might fix problems like these. And when i go to settings there are no options for IMEI or modem change, that's why i'm confused.
**********************************************
I do have my backup still, but when i try to restore it with CWM, it says something about md5 sums, any idea how to deal with that, because i think that would help if i could use that backup. The stock rom that i downloaded wasn't from any known page. Mostly because SamMobile doesn't have my version anymore for some reason. And i tried to download it from samsung-updates.com but it said that the download would take about 9 hours. I think that the download time would only keep growing and growing so eventually it would be a waste of time.
I think i understand the very basics of flashing,
No you don't and that's your problem this post only makes it more obvious and makes it nearly impossible to give guidance .
MD5 and cwm basics turn off MD5 check in recovery .
You cannot go flashing kernels for no reason .
Modem change is not settings neither is IMEI .
Broken sim reader yes its possible but highly unlikely from a firmware bad flash .
Its entirely possible that you have downloaded a bad firmware .
You also have a non Samsung rom flashed now (aokp)
suggest you read up on that for problems .Though i cannot see any 9005 AOKP roms here .
But first you need to check you have the correct IMEI if your IMEI does not match then you restore the EFS folder you backed up before you started flashing .
I said that i would appreciate that if you would guide me through this step by step. How can i check IMEI? I'm sorry i'm making this so hard for you. The only thing i care about now is that i get my phone back stock and running smooth.
*****************************************************
That is also true that i might have downloaded a bad firmware. Are there any other place to get a stock firmware other than samsung-updates.com?
Download from sammobile.com. It is advised to flash the newest 5.0 firmware on your N9005 (N9005XXUGBOB6) with Odin 3.09 or later.
Check your IMEI from Settings/About device/Status/IMEI. If it starts with 0049, your phone has lost its IMEI. Try flashing to the newest 5.0 firmware to fix it.

I'm sorry that i have to make this hard for you again, but can you tell what EFS backup means and what i'm supposed to do with it?
The EFS folder contains your phones unique identification code or IMEI . Without correct IMEI your phone cannot connect . That is why the EFS folder is backed up before anything is ever flashed . No backup and wrong IMEI then you probably need a service centre repair . EFS/ IMEI can be damaged during flashing that is why rule one is backup your EFS folder first .

Dude you are like 12 years old. Why do you even have such a phone? Your attitude toward the dude that was helping you was very rude.
If you don't know what EFS is, it is highly likely that you don't have a back-up. In that case you can try to flash the stock firmware suggested previously. But I really doubt that it will actually magically "cure" your IMEI. I would really go to a service center before you do anymore damage. It could be a little expensive, but at least they do know what they are doing.
That being said, I'm not sure even a service center could help you.
You can restore your backed up EFS folder .
CWM backup restore does not include EFS .
You can flash lollipop .
You can flash a matching modem .
All these may restore IMEI or make the situation worse that is why a service repair is recommended .

I'm sorry if i sounded rude towards to anybody, that is totally not what i'm trying to be. I know you guys are trying to help so i really don't see why i would be rude towards to anyone. I guess my english is still so bad that i'm sounding rude.
I think the best option now is to take the phone to a service repair. Especially if flashing anything can make the situation worse.
I thank everyone that has tried to help. It seems like that i have to accept the fact that i ****ed up my phone. At least this will serve as an example to anyone who's trying to flash custom roms and don't know what they are doing.
Oh, and the reason i have this phone because i'm a student i high school. I just started doing flashing and trying custom roms and i guess i thought it would be really simple. Clearly it wasn't.
