Hi, I've reading a lot (all posts here for sure) and understanding how to manage my new (4 me) Android M2.
I have managed to ROOT it and install and use several apps.
I also managed to flash a SBF to it.
The problem is I have a UK ROM and I need the Baseband for Latin America, I have managed to flash the Brazilian ROM but this one cannot be ROOTED, so I returned to UK.
With the UK ROM I only get EDGE and with the Brazilian I can get 3G.
Thanks for your advice for this newbie to Android.
Maybe a nandroid of a brazilian rom would solve the root problem, maybe...
But I can't upload a fresh nandroid, so quick.

Thanks for your quick reply!
I'll do as you tell me, I'm a natural born tester.
Please advice and I'll do so.
I'm uploading an old system.img.
The new ones are modified: with some motorola services and the homescreen frozen, so you cant boot without Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher installed in the data partition.
You'll maybe need to wipe the data and cache partition to install the nandroid (its a custom restore). I assume you have Droid 2 Bootstrapper installed and know how to use it.
Edit: Finished Uploading!
hxxp://dl.dropbox.com/u/17589298/system.img
make a file named nandroid.md5 and copy/paste this:
5af82d003a80d200d44252c16d179e36 system.img
then put both in the same folder!
Any trouble, I'll help.
Thanks again, I downloaded the .img and made a "nandroid.md5" with notepad and renamed it to this. I placed both in the same folder inside the SD card.
I have installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper but I don't know how to use it very well, I don't see to find the "Custom Restore" when I reboot on recovery.
What I'm doing wrong?
I forgot!
Put the files in the forlder /clockworkmod/backup/choose.a.name/ no spaces!
Ah! Read the red PS first...
In Droid 2 Bootstrapper:
1- Press "Bootstrap Recovery" button and wait for "Success!" popup message.
2- Press "Reboot Recovery" button, it'll restart your phone in ClockworkMod Recovery.
In ClockworkMod Recovery:
***Use Volume or direcional keyboard buttons to navigate, OK button near direcional buttons for "enter" (some say camera button is like OK, but not for me) and Power button is ESC/Back, if you press Power on Main Menu the phone goes black, just press it again.
The phone boots to ClockworkMod Recovery if you shut it down and put it to recharge, but inside the menu recharging doesnt work, so have the battery 100% charged.
2- Navigate to "Backup and Restore", press OK.
3- There are 3 options: Backup (you may want to do this before) Restore and the third one (I think its "custom restore"), select it and then the system.img, and it will ask you to confirm. Finish!
PS: Maybe you'll need to "Wipe data/cache partition" and loose all your configs. if you don't do this, MAYBE you will get a bootloop, if it happens just boot to recovery (can be the normal one, just turn on the phone press some key I don't remenber) and wipe data. I did this when installed Apex Rom 1.3.1 for Droid 2, yeah no phone calls though...
PS2: System is in Portuguese (TIM-BR), can change in configs to English and Spanish.
PS3: A good console.
Thanks you very much !!!
I'll charge it to 100% and try it.
I'll post my results, I wish I can solve the 3G issue.
I managed to get all over, when i'm trying to flash it says:
ClockWorkMod Recovery v2.5.0.8
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
I found this
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114
but I don't know how to do it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again.
Download AFV from android market and check the MD5 Hash of system.img. Change the token in nandroid.md5.
PS: I didnt read the other topic... no links on mobile.
Sent from my A953 using XDA App
Hi, I made the new hash: a19f75003c646a9718c3d5609fad717f but I changed it and keep telling me the same. Maybe I'm not doing the MD5 as it should be, can you please tell me how to do it, step by step, first time for this. Thanks again.
I'm lost now, I erased the nandroid.md5 file and then I ran again the AFV and now comes back the MD5 you posted. I'm sure I don't know how to make it. Thanks again.
Also, I have managed to flash a Brazilian SBF but the GSM conexion comes in and out, that's why I returned the UK flash, do I need the Brazilian ROM to flash this image? Thanks again for all your time and help.
Well, I think this should work:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17589298/nandroid.md5
I will try it and I'm sure that I will post my sucess !!!
Thanks, I made all steps by the book and now it says MD5 sums Mismatched...
Any ideas? You are very kind.

What's the name of the folder you put the files?
It can't be "The Folder", it has to be "TheFolder", no spaces or it says MD5 sums Mismatched
Try this name "2011-01-09.01.46.31".
Check with the md5hasher, just to be sure.
Thanks for all your time and all the teaching. I did everything by the book, I copy/paste the folder name and double checked that had no space, I also checked the MD5 with the script you sent me, now it says that the MD5 Mismatched!!! after a minute of "thinking".
I'm gonna try to flash a Brazilian SBF and on top of it this image. I'm trying to think outside the box but there nothing that can I imagine. Thanks again.
Hey could you upload that SBF? The link is off for now on...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914071&page=2
Edit: Now I got it, forget it.
Thanks, I downloaded the SBF from that link, I first installed the Brazilian and I installed back the UK. I've read a lot and nothing seems to fit what is wrong here.
Do you still want me to upload the SBF?
I really appreciate your posts.
I reflashed the Brazilian SBF that I downloaded from the link you posted and didn't let me do nothing, is unbranded but didn't let me ROOT it or nothing, I had to change again to the UK SBF.
ok i recently got a european open to all networks samsung galaxy tab,
now i decided to install a custom rom last night with horrible results, my phone is now stuck on the samsung boot screen and will not load properly,
here are the steps i took that ended me up in this mess,
i installed rom manager from android market,
then installed clockwork mod from inside rom manager, following the exact steps i was given but heres where i think i went wrong,
at some point it asked u back up everything onto an sd card, now i thought i had an sd inside it already but i didnt and thats what i think caused all the trouble,
i backed up all my files anyway onto the internal memory b4 goin into recovery mode, after completely wiping the phone as it saids u shud do, i then proceeded to load the modaco rom that i had installed into the "download" section of my memory and thats where it said the exact following words....
Checking /system...
E: failed to mount /system (invalid argument)
/system may be rfs. checking...
checking /date...
checking /database...
checking /cache...
filesystems need to be converted to ext4.
a backup and restore will now take place.
if anything goes wrong, your backup will be named before-ext4-convert-1297008631. try restoring it incase of error.
E:failed to mount /sdcrard (no such file or directory)
now i've tried restoring it and backing it up but all it repeats is the same thing, i know i messed up but now all i want to know is how can i fix it?
please any help would be much appreciated.

A brandnew start from scratch with Odin and repartioning with the rom from Rotohammer JMIv1.0 or v2.0 wouldt be my advice. You need the pit-file as well. Can be found on his server.

Read the following thread that explains how to flash Rotohammer JMI ROM

Give it a good read and then ask if you have any questions before you start the process again.

First extract the P1000XWJJ3.rar. You shouldt be left with a single tar-file?! If so
Well if you have the right files. Start Odin. On the left you see the option 'repartion', tick that box. On the left you see pit. Tick that box and load the pit-file. Tick the box PDA and load the tar.file you extracted.
Start the tablet in download modus and attach it to youre pc. You shouldt see on top left a yellow box. Then just press start in Odin
beware that all on yore tablet will be deleted.
here is a very good guide with pictures.

Ok great. at least you got it working again....
Now you need to flash the baseband-modem that you can find in the download link below. Flash it in Odin. Uncheck repartion. Check 'phone' and load the modemfile you downloaded. Its a tar.file. Leave it as it is. Then press start and the baseband will be installed.
Then you have to set-up the APN from youre telecom-provider and you will be up and running.....

Hey mate, seems I am in a similar predicament here. Just 2 days back I flashed my Tab to Roto JMI v2 from a stock Asian firmware (DDJK3 I suppose) due to a bad Modaco flash that went really bad. Wiped off my data from god knows what areas. Now I am facing an issue that I am not able to understand or solve.
I was using Titanium Backup to remove a system app without Chuck Norris mode, which meant I had to reboot device and it would delete it OS level and say reboot to system. But once I click on reboot system an Exclamation mark just comes across the screen and NOW I CAN'T BOOT INTO my system. neither to i see the options it was earlier showing me upon Pwer + Vol Key up. The only option left for me is to reflash it using Odin.
Any Ideas mate? Reflashing again and again is not the solution right?
Thanks & Cheers!

Well, first of all. Removing system app ad hoc is not really clever to do. But you cant get into the recovery so you are able to clear cache and do a factory-reset? Volume-up+Power on and holding the volume-upbutton untill you get into the recovery?
If not you have to reflash from scratch with Odin. Use the pit/file and check repartion.
These are the steps i took to get back to the Stock bell rom. I take no credit for this method, NFHimself made the scripts, and mods for deodexing.
This takes an hour at least.. Make sure your battery is FULLY charged, Do a backup first as well to save your sd card contents.. You have to do a factory reset after the process is complete.
1)reinstall a fresh sbf of the french 2.1.1 and login to motoblur. French sbf can be found in this thread, Close to the bottom of the page.
2) enable usb debugging.. menu, settings, applications, development, then check usb debugging
3) go to NFHimselfs deodex/mod thread here
4)download Version 9, and extract it to your computer
5)Run the menu.bat file
6) choose the root option. and follow the instructions. If it doesn't complete successfully, unroot and try again. Took me a couple times to get my phone rooted properly.
7) once root is complete, choose restore phone. This will automatically download the files needed to get you back to the stock rom. It will take a little bit of time to download, so have a drink or smoke or something.
The restore will take an hour or so to complete. Be patient.
I got to the point where it said waiting for phone to shutdown, so i pulled the battery and did it manually. Once my phone booted back up again, it was on the stock bell rom.
Thanks to all who helped me! Y2whisper and kieller from the support.motorola forums.
Don't forget to thank NFHimself.
NOTE: I had to do a factory reset to get the Market app back.
I managed to get the bell update with no problems!
right on I was wondering how I would get back to the stock Bell.....I'm running the French 2.1.1, so when the time comes I can sit back for an hour or so and bring the phone back to stock...........yaaaahoooo......
nate_benji were you on the french 2.1.1 before you did this?? cause I'm on 2.1.1 and I am rooted, just wondering if I have to do all over... flashing 2.1.1 again and root??? but I guess it can't hurt with a fresh install......guess I'm getting lazy in my old age...lol

Yes, i was on the french 2.1.1. The only reason i did a fresh install of the french 2.1.1 sbf is because the rooting method is a little different than using gingerbreak. I tried with a normal root, but it didn't work. NFHimself's mod/deodex application has the root option built in. That's what I used, and it worked well.

The benefit is you get the bell updates, who knows when the other carriers will release the gingerbread updates. Mind you bell is slow at releasing anything..

Thanks nate, then when the time comes that's exactly what I shall do......
The biggest benefit of this would probably be that when you do this it would be really hard to tell if you ever modded the phone. Also Bell is likely to get the Gingerbread update before people in Europe.

my phone was working fine yesterday morning. a install some apps like rom manager, titanium backup and z4root. I rooted my phone and then derooted it. now i`m not able to make or receive calls. whenever I make call phone struck at black screen with notification bar and restarts.

Try to see the APN if they are correctly configured. if that dont work, try to reflash with the stock rom...
have u made a recovery? if yes then great otherwise the last option is always there - installing fresh rom though boot manager .

Hi all,
So I've decided to root my Exynos International Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root. All went well until Odin got stuck at cache.img, then fails after a couple of minutes. I unplug the phone and restart it, it then displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" whenever I try to boot. I can access download mode again, but not recovery. My phone is stock 4.2.2.
It's the first time I have such a problem, I flashed a couple of phones before without any trouble. I searched XDA for a solution and tried other Odin versions, different cable/ports, even tried on another computer: Same issue. Stuck at cache.img. I can't get my phone to work again. Some people suggested it might have something to do with USB debugging, but I can't remember if I left it enabled or disabled.
I didn't back any of my data (I didn't expect the root to fail...) and retrieving my phone, rooted or not, is of the utmost importance. Please avoid posting solutions that involve data loss.
Feel free to ask about anything I might have left out.
Thanks!

I think you'll have to flash an official Sammy Firmware to get past the error, although if you look in the Note 3 Android Development, I recall seeing some deodexed, rooted firmware that is supposed to work from Odin. Not sure if any of them are for exynos version though.
Data? I keep everything I can on the extSD for exactly this reason. You should be able to remove the card and put it in a card caddy and read it in a PC and copy out your media etc. The root process shouldn't have overwritten anything you need.
For rooting, maybe DL the SuperSU zip file Chainfire's website and flash it in Recovery once you're up and running? I use TWRP but Philz or CWM recoveries will do it.

I see. So in newbie terms, if I flash the official firmware I have from SamMobile, I should have my phone back running with all my apps & data? Also, any hint about why rooting didn't work in the first place?
After this tragic experience with Odin, I'm gonna forget root for now, maybe update to Lollipop then think about rooting again.
Thanks for replying !

Did the official firmware work when you did it? If so, download Phone INFO Samsung from Play and use it to check what hardware you actually have.
I have had issues with CF-Auto root recently so I flash Stock, then the TWRP md5 file (in Odin 3.09) then I boot into Recovery and flash SuperSU. That gives me Recovery and root. You normally have to run SuperSU when you start so it can update.
U[pdating to LP is a good idea - most of the things going on in Dev are now LP versions.

I didn't flash the official firmware ever. Before trying to root with Odin and getting it stuck, I never flashed or modified anything internally on this phone.
Obviously, I can't use Phone INFO because my phone is stuck at BSOD.
I will upgrade to Lollipop, once I can get my phone working as it was. For now I'm still hesitating to flash the official firmware. I don't know if that would wipe the apps or just get back the phone as it was.

It will wipe Apps and Data - it makes your phone like you just bought it.
I didn't realise it was stuck in that mode - just thought that happened whenever you tried to flash something.
First thing. Turn phone off. Take back off and remove battery for 10 secs or so. Turn it on holding down Vol Down + Home + Power - release when DL screen shows and press Vol Down. If that gets you into the phone, spend some time saving your data to extSD.
I use Call Logs Backup & Restore, SMS Backup & Restore, I export my Contacts to ext storage. I use TiBu to backup all my apps to a folder on extSDCard. If you are on Stock ROM, you should be able to set your camera to save to extSDCard but you need a file explorer (I use ES File Explorer) to copy your current DCIM folder across - other than that, look for music, documents and video folders on internal memory)
If it doesn't open the phone for you, & your data is important, take card out and use adapter to save data onto a computer.
Go to Sammobile and download the proper official firmware for your phone - note you need to set up a free account before you can DL.
Download Odin 3.09 Run Odin
Then repeat the phone process but this time press Vol Up when at the DL screen. It is important to have the phone Off and electrically flat before attempting a firmware update.
Connect phone to PC - Odin should recognise it. If it doesn't you probably need the Samsung USB Drivers so get them and install them.
Then connect phone again. Click AP and find your DL from Sammobile. Wait for it to load then press Start. Wait... it will reboot and usually sits on the logo for quite some time.
Set up your phone, and restore or reinstall your apps.

Thank you, I just tried going into download mode and pressing vol down, still get the same BSOD. I guess that means phone cannot be recovered as it is...
I'm backing up my stuff now. I have no problem backing up contacts/SMS/etc.., but can you tell me whether I can still back up applications and restore them as they were using Titanium Backup on PC ? I know this should have been done before even soft-bricking my phone, but since it inaccessible to run the app on it...
I already have the official firmware waiting to be installed, just need to be sure about TiBU and that I backed up everything correctly Thanks for answering !

That depends... TiBu can only recover what you've saved (obvious I know...) and only if it didn't get wiped in the new firmware flash. (which it will if you didn't choose extSDCard for the backups)
Other than that, once your phone is set up and your Google account active, Play Store will DL all your apps.

Unfortunately it's a Play Store app, so first you have to get your phone working.
You could try the attached from Recovery but I have no idea if it would work as it's from my rooted CM12.1 system.

Recovery isn't working for me... The only thing I can access on the phone is Download mode.
I guess it's lost? :/

The only other thing I can think of would be using ADB over USB but I don't know if that would work with DL mode or if it is only for Recovery. You'd have to search and learn how to use it.
So maybe time to just get the phone working and make sure for future you have backups?

SOLVED. I can't believe how easy it was. I was about to flash it over from scratch but then it struck me.
Chainfire ships Odin with all its root bundles, a version where you cannot untick "Auto Reboot". Because of Auto Reboot being ticked, Odin freezes at "cache.img". It might not freeze for some people but for me, having Auto Reboot activated causes the freeze
Downloading a different version of Odin (any version, I used 3.09) that allows changing parameters and LEAVING EVERYTHING UNTICKED BUT F. RESET TIME works like a charm.
Don't forget to reboot your phone after Odin displays PASS or RESET (Long press power).
I'm going to PM Chainfire about this, and tell a max of people about it.
Thank you for your support
EDIT: Also going to NANDroid my phone. I'm tired of panicking over failed roots
