I see how many people with HDDSLR cameras set up for filming video have to buy a 6" monitor which is connected only by a mini hdmi cable.
I know my EVO 4G has a micro HDMI port, so why not write an application that turns my evo into a little mini hdmi monitor for my DSLR video rig?! Right?!?!
Does anyone know if it's even possible to use that micro hdmi port as a video input? I know there are several apps out there that offer video mirroring or video out to TV, but I haven't seen a video IN for any of these phones yet.
I've never written an android application before, I have no idea where to start, I just wanted to open up the discussion.
I know I'm supposed to just buy the video monitor for the camea, But I know that with the power of android, I can see this DIY solution come to life.
If anything else, I want to do it because it would be fun.
HDMI port in all phones is ONLY OUT. Sorry but your idea isn't factible.
Angel.

Can you output 1080p (or even 720p) video out through the HDMI port to a nice big TV?
I was reading somewhere that this may not be possible...
I was told you could and I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to but I haven't tried it yet. Need to find a cable
Thanks for the reply. Anyone actually have a cable and been able to do this?
I think it's micro hdmi so I have a cable but no xoom yet. One of the first things I plan on testing when it shows up next week.

Some reviews I read said u actually need the HD dock to use hdmi out I don't even have the cable so I myself am wondering the samething
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967922
No need for the dock. The thread of someone having used it was pushed down to page 4.
That show's mirroring though. I want to see true Video output in 1080p.
I used my dx hdmi cable too hook up to me 65 in dlp and got 720p.
It basically just mirrors screen. I couldn't get xoom screen to turn off though. Didn't wait that long.
Watched some of a AVI movie via rock player and worked very well. Not 1080 though
How does video out work on the Galaxy Tab? Basically, I'm torn between the Xoom and the Tab 10.1. I'm leaning towards the Tab due to the video format support.
I understand the 10.1 isn't out yet, but I'm assuming the video out will work similarly since the new Tab will still not have HDMI out.
What connector would I need to connect my Tab's output to my TV? Would there be a way of getting audio and video out to HDMI through an adapter? Or would I need to use the headphone jack as well?
Thanks.

The 7" Tab has analog video out via cable, and digital video out via an HDMI port on the multimedia dock - I'd imagine the larger Tabs would be about the same.
I bought an HTC Media Link today, ostensibly for my Desire HD, but I checked that it does work with the Tab, so that is likely another option on the larger Tabs.

Dave
The part I hate the most about docking is u can't watch movie that u rent from mediahub tru your big screen. It is not allowed thanks to drm
Streaming using dlna is good enough so u might skip buying anything

No, HTC Media Link is DLNA client that plugs into your TV.

Oh, . . . Thank you.
Probably a noob question, but i dont know so i thought id ask.
Do we have any way at all to output the Xperia Play picture to a TV yet?
Would be great to plug it into the TV while i am in bed and control iplayer and youtube and play some games etc.
the only 2 things that ive seen is
1. theres a new prototype play with a hdmi out on it and there is a video on youtube of someone using it.
2. ive seen a S.E docking station thats coming out that has a hdmi output
on it but its unclear if this adds hdmi to our plays, or just for the new plays that have hdmi out on already?

That 'prototype' is for development use only.
Someone said he used a usb to hdmi adapter but then he was uncontactable...

The plays with HDMI out, are development models, its not a new version

Man, better not to answer if you don't know something well. That can confuse a lot of people.
1- The prototype you talk about it's just the device that the developers buy to make games for the Xperia Play and test them.
2- The LiveDock Multimedia Station (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImnhFtmyHNA) uses the USB port of some Xperia phones and outputs the image through the HDMI output that the dock has. The bad new is that the Xperia Play is not one of the compatible phones, although it has USB port.
And if there would be that new Xperia Play with HDMI output, why the heck would you need this dock if the mobile already would have HDMI output???
Someone said you can use a micro
Hdmi cable to connect it why not try? ;P

I have a feeling they may release a USB - HDMI adapter for the Xperia Play but will also need software on the phone like Bravia Sync to allow for the phone display to be pushed to HDTV.

That will be awesome (if SE decide to go with this idea).
Where do I have to sign to get one ?
I just want to be able to connect my first smartphone (the PLAY) with my 55" LED screen ... even my former, former, former dumb phone (Samsung D900) was capable of it... after that the replacements a Samsung F480 and a Samsung S8000 (the famous "Jet") weren't able.
anyway... I'm loving the Play... just hope SE don't leave us unsupported.
Hey guys,
I'm working on a project in work that will require good quality video of an Android phone. I've looked at a few apps that can record your screen and output a video, but none of them give me the framerate or quality I'm looking for.
The solution I'm looking at now is using MHL to output the phone's display to HDMI, and using an HDMI capture card to record the signal. I know I can display the Galaxy Nexus' screen on a 720p television (as per the video here -> (YOUTUBE)/watch?v=ENdJv_AI5vU, sorry can't post links) but I'm concerned about HDCP. The wikipedia article for MHL states that a feature of it is:
Supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).
I'm not sure if that means all MHL signs are encrypted, or that it should be able to support HDCP on request.
Does anyone have experience with recording HDMI/MHL recording, or recording a phone's display to video in general? Any help or advice is much appreciated.

I've struggled with this in my test lab at work. I have not yet found a solution that works reliably with MHL or even HDMI when the phone has it. I tried one from Diamond Multimedia without luck. I use the Elgato Game Capture HD but so far it only works with my ASUS Transformer TF300T and Motorola Xoom, both with HDMI output. I've got several MHL adapters, both the standard 5-pin and the Samsung-style 11-pin ones and the SlimPort for the Nexus 4. I've tried it with many devices:
Samsung Galaxy S II/III/IV, Vizio VTAB1008, Sony Xperia S, Nexus 4, Droid DNA, HTC One X and many others. Only the Transformer TF300T and Xoom work.
According to Elgato there are no known MHL devices that work, though they only tried a few. I can't yet post links but just Google this:
Code:
"game capture HD" MHL
and choose the first link to Elgato's site.
Elgato is certainly the way to go, just wish it was less expensive.
what u are looking for it is more a software solution.
u need something like tv support app and teamviewer. and u need a fhd display. and a record software on your pc which can record in fhd.
use tv support and teamviewer at the same time and overlay the screen of your smartphone and screen of your pc.
dont know if the cpu and ram of the phone powerfull enough to let the video stream fluently. maybe with the note3 or lg g2 or sony z1.
i already tested it with the note1 but it is almost a year ago and i dont own it anymore. my nexus7 2013 is broken right now. so i cant test it anymore. have to wait till 3 weeksto get the n7 back.
cheers
Hi guys
Is it possible to browse a stream from my telephone played with MXplayer to a random tv. Could be samsung TV or thru DNLA?
I noticed when I'm in MXplayer I can't browse DNLA with devices around..
How can I play a stream via MXplayer on a recent tv without using HDMI?
I would be so thankful
You could connect to a samsung tv via "screen mirroring" (also called miracast, can be used with any miracast TV)

If I understand you correctly. I just have to buy a miracast and I can play it on every hdmi TV wireless? What about delays? Are there any delays?

EDIT: something like this? http://www.android-warehouse.com/nl/tronsmart-t1000-miracast-dongle.html
Will this work on every TV that supports HDMI? Even when the TV has no wifi.
(first generation hdmi tvs)
What's the difference between dnla and miracast exactly?
Is browsing a stream possible with Mxplayer on phone to tv in full screen?
Mxplayer has no dnla support?
Not a pro but:
Every hdmi tv with a dongle, yes.
Its like if u access your dvd player via hdmi, you can use your dvd remote then. The dongle will take your screen and put it onto the tv via hdmi, no matter what generation hdmi. And your tv has no need for wlan. It will have a 2-3 sec delay (bad for games) but will work perfectly for watching movies.
Ah yeah and it takes your screen so it doesnt give a sh1t what app you open.
Dlna: sharing media files in network
Miracast: stream your screen to a tv or any other miracast capable device

Any wireless option will have a slight delay. Those wifi adapters that are plugged to TV via HDMI cable... it's going to be a delay... Even with Samsung original. Same if you have WiFi TV in that case you don't need adapter but still, a delay.
Best option i think (at least for gaming where delay is not an option) is MHL cable... I'll buy one, it's 7$ or so... i think it is worth it.
I've read that those Mhl adapters are not compatible on every TV and needs a external power supply is that true?
Isn't it possible to plug and play

I recommend you only get this MHL adaptor for best picture at 1080p 60hz, i bought several third party ones which are nasty with delays and only output 1080p 30hz, and with the original you don't need to plug in power source, ypu can play hi-res 3d games fluidly and movies are superb quality.

I found this on a website: http://be.mobilefun.com/38702-samsung-galaxy-s4-galaxy-note-3-mhl-hdtv-adapter---et-h10fauwegww.htm
It's much cheaper than the link you send. Is it the same? If so, I'm going to buy it €30's is not that much for a thing like this. 1080P @ 60hz is nice

Take it with you wanting to stick to a wired connection you are looking at playing games ?
If not Mira-cast is an awesome little party trick !
I use mine with my LG smart TV its brilliant !! There is maybe a slight delay for gaming but tbh thats why i bought a PS....however HD movies seem to work fine as it adjusts for the sync to work !
I also use mine as a jukebox at times pretty nifty.
Goodluck with either the cable or dongle you decide to go with, let us all know how you get on :good::laugh:
Thx, I'll let you guys know
My main usage is for streaming football matches from my Mxplayer.
And I bought a cable since HDMI is almost everywhere now to use (to use at friends or family). We'll see how it goes
