I would greatly appropriate any help that can be offered! I have the previously leaked 3.1 on my A500, and I was going to install the new one that is posted on the Development area, but like a dummy I did a factory reset via the Android OS and not the CWM. By doing this I have lost Root and CWM, and this version of 3.1 has a bug where you have to delete dhcpd-wlan0.lease, which I can't do because I don't have root, to get WiFi access. I cannot use ADB because I don't have root. Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to get root again without file manager or WiFi to download the root application?
I know this is probably simple, but it's one of those things that you can see a clear answer until someone tells you how stupid you are so you can embrace it!
Use a static IP. That way you won't need DHCP to get the IP because you'll assign one yourself. This will get your Wifi up and the rest is up to you.
Try downloading the apk using your computer, transfer to your iconia via USB, then run it.
Thanks for the help! I was able to finally load CWM and factory reset+wipe cache+wipe dalvik. Then loaded the update_3.1.zip. Next did a restart, and now my Tablet is sitting with the Acer logo and will not load. Can anyone recommend a way to get it up again?
Thanks again for your help!

Mine started freezing at the acer logo, but I have not modified my unit at all. I was able to recover by holding the down volume as I turned it on. It showed some text on the screen, stating it cleared the cache, but froze again loading the recovery image. I restarted my tablet again and then it was fine.
Rob
I also had an issue where the A500 would sit at Android screen.
I turned off and enter the CWM again and wipe cache+dalvik+battery before install the official 3.1. And then to be sure wipe cache+dalvik+battery again and then install the official 3.1 second time.
Upon rebooting it seems rather longer than usual but eventually I got the lock screen!
p.s. didn't do the factory reset 'coz I wasn't keen on d/l all the apps and etc.
Can't Connect to A500 wifi tethering thru Galaxy S (rooted)
Hello I am a noob to threads but not to XDA
I got my Acer Iconia Tab A500 a few days ago and can't connect the wifi tethering using my Samsung Epic 4G SPH-D700 (rooted)
Which has been rooted and update with Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I was able to connect my laptop HP vista with no problems.
I am unable to root the A500 at the moment due to its a rent to own product. But if need be I would root the A500 to fix the wifi issue. Because I know it could always unroot like with my Sprint Samsung Epic 4G (rooted).
My issue is how do I get the A500 to see the Galaxy S using 3G wifi tethering USB?
I see alot of posts (threads) but is there a clear set of instructions that I could follow in order to get connection.
I am not looking to purchase a mifi or any other kind of modem due to the Samsung Epic 4G (rooted) should be enough.
Any help would most appreciative.
Thanks

Thanks for your assistance DFWGringo
I did some more research and found this site which was really helpful.
For anyone that doesn't want or need to root there Acer Iconia Tab A500 can use these QR Code for wifi tethering there Android phones. It worked for me great no USB cable.

I know a lot of people are going to have problems updating to the latest gingerbread build.
PLEASE NOTE: This update will remove root but you can root again with CF-Root from second post.
ALSO, THIS PROCESS WILL WIPE DEVICE!
1) Put your P1010 into download mode (by holding POWER and VOL-DOWN):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
2)I went ahead and used ODIN tool to downgrade/upgrade to the latest FROYO firmware before Gingerbread:
P1010XWKC1_OXX
(OEM Flash Guide here)
You should have the same tick marks and files loaded as in my screenshot. Be sure that the box is yellow on the right and you can initiate the firmware install by clicking 'Start'.
3) (VARIES) From there, after restart some people will experience a force close followed by a reboot loop. You will need to flash this kernel via ODIN:
P1010ZHKF1-kernel
(Flash this the same way as above but UNCHECK Re-Partition and CSC!)
4) You will then be able to boot into Froyo.
5) You will use ODIN again to install the Gingerbread update and flash just the PDA (leave CSC blank and leave Re-partition unchecked this time).
P1010XEUKPG
(Flash this the same way you flashed the Kernel in step #2)
6) After it reboots, you will have 2.3.6
7) (Optional) steps in post #2 to install CWM Recovery and Root.
I recommend installing CWM Recovery and CFRoot in the thread below:
ClockWorkMod Recovery for P1010
After you install CWM Recovery, you can do a nandroid backup and never worry about brick again! (=
Also, you can use ES Explorer to mount root and get rid of the Samsung bloatware (AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!)
For those wanting to remove the bloatware (AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!):
You can remove the bloatware with ES Explorer, there's an option to enable 'Root Explorer'. Download the latest version from the Market.
See below:
screenshots are from my Galaxy Nexus but it's the same for any Android 2.2+.
1) Go to the 'Settings' screen
2) Change home directory to '/'
3) Tick the 2 marks on the bottom
4) Browse to /system/app
5) Delete whichever app you don't want, but do it with caution (I usually move these files to /sdcard and move back if it causes any type of force close)
If you totally borked out the system in such a way that you can't boot, you can always move it back in recovery via ADB (much more complicated process but it's possible).
Also, why not do a nandroid backup before messing with deep system files?
Nice! Great topic.
Updated op! =)
this is the best christmas present so far.

If you followed those steps, the ROM runs stable without any FC's or reboots. I even have setCPU installed on mine.
Also, it's good to note that I'm running CF-Root kernel from the thread in 2nd post.
Plus, you could always downgrade if you run into issues. Just remember to always BACKUP YOUR DATA!

Could you attach the logcat here? or if you could send it directly to theos0o, that'll be great. he's the modder of the skype apps I pasted above.
could you also try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153285 this works for me using froyo.
im getting excited about this.. is it really for the p1010 wifi only device? because from what i can see in this subforum is the devs working on the p1000 only. another thing, please don't tell me this is an official update. i don't think the bad sammy will update this little tab.
Depending on where you are freon yes it its the official ireland uk update and makes massive difference as well
Much better tab.

sorry for the newbie question, but what's the password for the 2.3.3 file from sammobile?
edit: already found it, my bad
Interestingly, I've followed the guide exactly as mentioned above (had KC1 and the HK kernel from previous flashing) and flashed the PDA for XEU 2.3 from Sammobile, and I'm now stuck in an eternal bootloop. I like the new samsung boot music though, better than the previous one
Any suggestions?
Edit: I wiped data and cache from recovery, flashed KC1 and the Kernel and it boots fine. Checked Kies to be sure and it's offering me FW upgrade to KM2. Should I accept this FW upgrade or just persevere with flashing the new 2.3 firmware?
My wife got me a brand new A500 off ebay a couple of months ago for a Christmas gift(for me it's only three days old). So far I love it but it will not take the OTA update that it keeps bugging me about. The download starts fine but then stalls out mid download. I looked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 but did not see my current version there. Can anyone point me in the direction of the OTA I need to download and flash with recovery? My build is Acer_a500_1.145.09_com_gen1 I'm running 3.0.1. It looks like it's trying to download 4.010.11.
Further info:
According to the log the file name is Acer_A500_1.145.09_4.010.11_com_gen1_1311243587838_bd1ab95c.zip
I can't find that file anywhere on the net.
The reason I would suspect is because someone replaced the stock recovery? Off eBay you say, was it brand new and never used? It sounds like it was used or someone tampered with it?
If that's not the case, then you can just install the update manually. Download the update you want and put it on your external SDCard and then enter recovery (using power and volume). The recovery will install the update for you.

It said it was brand new. My wife would not buy something like this used. The weird thing is it knows it has an update and it starts to download and get's up to half way downloaded and then it just stops. It shows that it still is pulling data but the downloaded file size doesn't increase anymore after it stalls.
Ive been looking into rooting it and since I'm on 3.0.1 it appears Gingerbreak is all I need. The next question is what rom should I get and how do I go about installing it? I've never rooted droid before and most instructions on XDA are written for the experienced level and not the new guy. I'd like to stay fairly stock but rooted.

Just to make sure I'm getting it right: I go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20680452 download that to my PC and follow the instructions contained within and I end up with a stock rooted 3.2.1? Yes, if you want to flash 3.2.1 stock with root read the instructions in the download. The download has everything in it.
The soft reset everyone talks about is using the paperclip in that little hole next to the USB port.

so one day i turn on my tablet running lightspeed 1.0.7 and it asks me for a password. I thought it was my little brother playing a joke on me so i just factory reset it using CWM...... it boots up and asks me for a password AGAIN, after the factory reset. So i wiped all data, formatted evereything possible, and reflashed the ROM. AND IT STILL ASKS FOR A PASSWORD!!!! what gives? how do i fix this?
EDIT: I have used cwm to restore a backup of the stock ROM and it still asks for a password..... what the heck is this? PLEASE help
where is asking you for the password at..
Did you encrypt your tablet.
i think at the password screen keep trying and it will eventually ask for your google account information.. then let you in... .
if not my only thoughts is you will have to flash a total Stock decryped acer rom. one that updates the bootloader . as a few of the major updates have done..
but im guessing from my memory of people asking this in the past...
you will not get alot of help bypassing a password on here .. as to be honest who really knows if its your tablet or not...
that is why the google account verification is there..
no i didnt encrypt it.... its asking for the password when it boots up. I have seen a few threads on other forums with people that have xooms and transformers having the same issue.
Ok, so in that case, what do i need to do to be able to send this tablet to Acer? i am (was) rooted and i have thor's recovery installed. Is there a way to undo the stuff that voids the warranty?
and where can i find one of those full stock acer roms that update the bootloader? i guess one of those is worth a shot
ok so I tried to go back to stock using the unbrick method 2 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
and no luck. still asks for a password
and I also called Acer and they told me I will most likely be without my tablet for 2-3 WEEKS! and also Acer does not provide a box or pay for shipping for warranty repairs? really? I would really like a solution, if anyone can help me, please do. thank you

Thanks Timmy, I'll try this as soon as i get home to my sister's computer. hopefully it works!
ok so i am about to try this, but step one is to turn on USB debugging, what if i cant get to the setting menu to turn debugging on?
EDIT: so it seems that I will not be able to use this method because the software upgrade utility isnt able to recognize the tablet, because usb debugging is not enabled, and i can not enable it because the tablet is asking me for a password. i am stuck
any other solutions?
EDIT2: It is actually the computer that is not able to recognize the tablet. the drivers install, but when i connect the tablet via USB, it says the device drivers could not be installed
Not sure if this is what I experienced. My daughter's new A500 did an OTA update which apparently did not complete correctly. Tried to reboot after but would not. Did some browsing on this site and others and tried some things but no luck. Finally got various versions of update.zip and put them on an SD and did the power and volume - combo. I think after the first one I got the little android guy and the enter your password screen. Searched on a resolution to that but nothing. After a couple of more update.zip tries I got a version of 3.01 and ran that. Still got the android guy with the enter your password screen. Wanted to avoid returning it to K-mart where I got it new on Thanksgiving for $219. I knew they didn't have a replacement in stock and wouldn't be able to get another one for that price. Then I did the power and volume + combo with rocking the screen orientation toggle 2 times to reset the cache/data. Success - no password screen! It rebooted and went into the tablet setup process. I am not sure if it was that particular update.zip. I am thinking if I had did the clear the cache thingy after loading the initial update.zip it would have been ok. So my daughter's tablet has 3.01 on it now and seems to working fine. I am tempted to try a later release just to get to 3.1 but I don't want to risk horking it up. I haven't seen any notices for an OTA from Acer so that surprises me.

This will fix your issue (hopefully):
FACTORY RESET WITHOUT LOGON
ACER A500
1. Power Down
2. Make sure the Screen orientation is off (slide to left while landscape mode)
3. Hold down the right volume key (Volume up (+)).
4. Hold down the Power Button.
5. When it buzzes let go of the power but keep hold of the volume up button (+)
rock the screen orientation switch quickly back and forth once.
6. Should say :
Erasing Userdata....
Erasing Cache...

If this does NOT work then you will have to flash it using your USB Serial number and a paperclip. You use the paperclip and power button to put the tablet into fastboot, then you can flash it. Guarantee you it works, you just need your serial number.
TimmyDean, thank you for your response. I left town for about four days so when i get back home i will try those things.
Also, you mentioned using a paperclip and flashing it from fastboot using my serial number.... is that the same method you linked me to before? if not, is there a thread with instructions on how to do that? thanks for your help, man.

With all due respect never read it, I got it from ACER when I called them last year when an employee forgot their password. They faxed it to me, I scan it in if you'd like to see the original fax.
Secondly, I apologize if it was posted earlier I never searched for it here and assumed that since someone was asking that they were asking because it wasn't posted.
So, I give credit to ACER tech support and any others that may have posted here before me and shall post here forever after and/or any other site that may have already posted it or will be posting it including all social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook but not limited to such. All oral and written communications, anyone that used smoke signals, sign-language, or any form of communications present and/or past; thank you all and everyone.
Thanks to all,

I tried the new partition utility found in this section and I got an error from the sdcard portion, so it moved on to partitioning data but all it did was freeze and eventually I was stuck so I unplugged it. I managed to get back to TWRP and install the 6.2.1 update.zip but after I installed it I am stuck at the notorious "Your Kindle has detected a problem" screen and I can't get past it. I've tried KFU to boot into normal mode or even fastboot but I am stuck with the <waiting for device> message. I looked into it more and found this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414832
However, I can't get past the first command because I get this message:
exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: no such file or directory (2)
So I can't get anywhere without an error or waiting for device message, am I screwed or is there a way to fix this? ADB is working from what I can tell because reboot and similar commands work just fine, I think the partition just needs to be fixed. However when I click on Kindle properties in Device Manager I get this:

Can you explain how you did that?
The problem is that I can't get FFF or TWRP installed since I did a fresh install of 6.2.1.
Well nevermind guys I'm not gonna even bother with this. I contacted Amazon and I'm getting a new KF sent here in 2 days.
I also have a similar problem. I used TWRP to wipe everything and reflash the stock 6.2.1. Now I get the "exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: no such file or directory (2)" error. Everything I've found to fix the problem requires the shell and I can't use it. The Kindle never mounts in Windows either.
Those are the exact same issues I'm having. Oh well, I'm getting a new one and won't be messing with partitioning anymore.
The problem here is that you screwed your kindle and instead of doing the work to unscrew yourself you are sending it back to Amazon. All your doing is giving Amazon more reason to lock us out of the Kindle. They don't want to be taking back equipment that you ruined.
It's because of this kind of stuff that we are constantly fighting to get root on our devices. If you root your device and soft brick it you shouldn't send it back to the manufacturer. Do us all a favor and when you get your new KF, do not root it.
This is why company's hate root. If you cant take the time to fix your kindle after you f*** something up then don't root it.
edit: haha same post above me
I like how you guys say that when there is no real solution to solve this problem.
I got my new KF a day early. I sure won't be messing with partitioning again.
how do you partition by hand
There is a way, people have come back from completely wiping out the partition table on their kindle, I just can't find the post on how they did it. If you look in the custom kernel thread awhile back, the kernel had a glitch and caused some kindles to wipe out all partitions. So you can come back from it, just it hasn't happened to many people.
Edit: I believe you could have made it back using some form of this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388996&highlight=partition , but I'm not well versed enough in doing all this crap.
Edit again: If theres no real solution then you should be SOL, its not amazons fault you messed something up so badly on your kindle its unrecoverable. So yes, I will say that even if there is no solution.

Well nevermind guys I'm not gonna even bother with this. I contacted Amazon and I'm getting a new KF sent here in 2 days.

Wow, you suck at life. Thanks for being part of the reason people want to stop us rooting. You have no idea what you are doing so you send it back and make amazon eat it. You didn't even try to fix it.
I've been digging around online and can't find anything that helps me in my case.
Here's my stupidity: I flashed a kernel that was not intended for my phone (meant for Note 2). Reboot and dead screen. Can't get into download mode, recovery, nothing. Removed battery. Didn't help. Plugged into computer. Doesn't pick up anything connected. Odin doesn't see it. Tried RIFF. Can't get it to install the drivers it's supposed to. I saw something about jig dongles that can force it into download mode but I don't know about that.
What really stinks is I had just compiled SheepShaver for android and it took a few hours of work and I really don't want to do that all over again. Also pictures of my father who's just passed away are on there.
Am I screwed? Is there any way at all to get the proper kernel flashed back on this thing without a wipe? If not is there any way I can fix this phone? I have a semi-recent backup (about a month old) on my SD card. I have both Titanium Backup and a full nandroid backup on the SD.
Someone please come to my rescue. I've logged countless hours on this phone and I love it. All this because I couldn't get SELinux to go permissive...
You already know the answer. If you flashed a kernel not for your device and with the symptoms you have, your hard bricked. Jtag is the answer.

Do you know if these guys are the real deal? http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-jtag-brick-repair
I don't have the equipment to jtag it myself. Also just to be perfectly clear; An incorrect kernel cannot be fixed with a download mode jig correct?

mobiletechvideos.com have gotten high reviews on xda. They're the only ones I'd use.

Thank you. I'm trying. I installed those drivers. Trying to find the forum that explains how to use that tool. I saw that thread but it didn't have the download link anymore for the tool.
Update:

I think you will need the actual riffbox device. I've long since given up on trying to interface over USB. Riffbox talks directly to the memory chip. Need to be comfortable with soldering. But I do happen to have a link to the latest release of their software. http://www.unlockforum.com/showthread.php/riff-jtag-manager-v1-72-more-new-models-32724.html?
Thats the forum they use. The official site is riffbox.org
Sorry I don't know much else to tell you. If it won't boot it won't listen for a connection on USB. Some devices have a failsafe that activates a sort of programming mode over USB but the Galaxy S4 isn't one of those devices afaik.
