Support for USB OTG????! - Galaxy S I9000 General

First of all I am sorry to creat a new thread...I thought that if I put my topic in other thread then it will look like off topic...!!!
USB otg is fantastic feature in samsung falaxy S2, nokia n8, nokia c7. Our chipset support this facilty but samsung has disabled it...
But interesting part is many developers have implemented this on nexus, htc & many other devices...
Check out this site
www.mobilelocalsocial.com/2010/achievement-unlocked-usb-host-otg-for-android-on-nexus-one-hacked/
here developers have implemented this feature in nexus one phone...
Check out this url also
www.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993152
here also developers have done magic with HTC deire HD...!!!
So I think that there is a hope related to this feature...we have many experienced developers from whom we can expect this magic...

It sure would be nice to have usb otg enabled.does any one have a compliant cable over here ? I would sure giv it a go if i had the cable.

oh really thank you for your efforts...from where u get that cable??? I am searching alot on this site related to usb otg...main problem is with kernal...our kernal doesnt support this...modding a kernal to support this is very difficult...a very experienced developer is needed for this...i will try to talk with developers of galaxy s2 phone...they already have this facility...!!!

pleased to help you out,
Got 1 cable from ebay other from friend (don't know were he got it)

hey man u can create the usb otg cable by yourself...
just buy 2 female usb port connectors...
connect those two ports in parallel..
then plug into the usb pendrive into one port and to other connect the data cable..
thats all..
technically usb has four wires 2 for power and 2 for data

It doesn't seem like the files are accessible though. Anyone know if it is possible to get this working? Purely for novelty purposes.
Set the i9100 to development mode (so it's mass storage not mtp) and it MIGHT work. Try it let us know.
I wonder if once the i9100 on the left drains, if it will try and charge from the other

I dont know why but I laughed so hard at this
So it's a link that makes them have infinite battery life! Brilliant!

Survival of the fittest. I predict that the phones will take turns being the gimp and top until they approach 0% shared battery at which point they'll both be hard bricked. You're probably thinking this sucks, but don't worry, you've got expensive nunchucks now.

Good idea. Tried that though with no success.
Oh well. I'll suggest to the devs that they implement this crucial function in their custom kernels lol.
try to play a heavy game on the phone that provides power to the other S2
Connecting with dev mode at USB Mass Storage mode WILL give access to both internal and external SD to the other phone. Not sure what you tried.

Just got to Settings >> Applications >> Development >> USB debugging (while USB cable is DISCONNECTED)
Once you connect the USB cable, go to notification area and and click on "USB connected" message, there you would find button for "Connect USB storage"

Typical. A guy develops something and gets these kinds of remarks.
The questions on why or costs are irrelevant. A developer creates or adjusts something because he can. There is no relevance needed.
Kudos to the OP.

Vote for USB HOST KERNEL

guys lets have a poll on how badly we need a USB HOST KERNEL ... a TRUE OTG DRIVER ..
which connects USB Devices through a USB OTG CABLE to our beloved SGS i9000 WITHOUT any external power source.
I love the idea, but is it possible? I mean with the hardware we have in our SGS
guysss ...
just think of the NEED of this KERNEL ... we would not be using our Pc's to backup or transfer files or important data .. like backups from Titanium after this ...
we would not be dependent to any other device after this .. just our i9000 a cable and a USB device thats all ...
and many manyyy manyyyyyyy more ....

it is possible for sure ...
we already have a CUSTOM KERNEL for SGS .. which is working .. but it requires an external power source to get your devices visible on the phone and one app as well required ..
while SGS2 has this feature built-in ... and doesnt require any extra power source or any app.
LOOOOOL, WTF is this?

you need no special kernel or HARDWARE (!!)
go to market and search for "hamster wheel"
it delivers enough power so there is need of an ac adapter as well </trolling>
Spam thread?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the way I see this post is ungratefull for the dev's who have put a lot of hard work in bringing you what we have so far and for it to work as well as it does so far.
The ins and outs are posted here and all relative links to the why and why nots.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450298
Have a bit of courtesy and respect rather than start up a thread that moans about something that is already being worked on.
I would like to see it be possible without external p/s but starting it whine poll is not going to encourage anyone to go faster with the development. If I was a developer I'd be almost inclines to drop it or tell you to buy A NEW PHONE if you want that functionality that badly.
By the way if your happy with the work they have already done dont forget to hit the thanks button for them.
nice.........
yes, surely wants this feature........
it ll help in minimizing pc use for transferring data...
& opens a whole new world of possibilities

i believe XDA has freedom of speech .. as we all support open source ... so i believe we r all open to have our opinions and discussions to make ...
and i was not targeting any specific dev. in my thread .. this was just to let all see and dev's as well .. that how much interest our crowd has in this ... and it'll be a great achievement by the Dev's ... i respect all Dev's ... i am follower of them ... so there was no offense ... or any bad intension .. or not even i was trying to push this matter to Dev's .. i dont know why people just jump into threads and spread negeiveness what they have in their mind ...

Tablets and USB OTG - Flash drives with micro USB?

With the rise in popularity of tablets and smartphones, and the microUSB port as the standard for these devices, could we see some flash drives designed for tablets that make use of the microUSB connector?
I'd love to buy a 64GB flash drive that can plug straight into my Nexus 7 and my smartphone and my friends' devices too.
It'll probably be charged at a premium due to the relatively niche usage, but regular 64GB drives are pretty cheap these days, and they're only going to get cheaper.
Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this? A USB OTG adapter isn't so big or expensive but it'd be great to have a storage device that works natively.
Um....a lot of us do this already. Hell, I watched a movie off of a flash drive today. Hyst get stickmount on a rooted N7. I got the micro usb to female usb on ebay for 99 cents shipped.
Maybe I misunderstand the question?

I think he meant flash drives with micro usb in it already as in the mount is micro instead of having an adapter
I did a search and this is all I could find:
http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=2704
Not exactly convenient the way it is. They would've been smarter putting the micro USB port on the side, but even then, very pricey.

Definitely a better price, but still inconvenient to have the connector on the end like that. I think that at least for now, it's more convenient to just have a separate cable, not to mention that I don't think I'd trust the reliability of these no-name flash drives in the long run.
Looking for something small to was also hoping to get an otg flash drive best I can find is one of these http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=1387 plugged into one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-USB...867?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6edf4fbb. :crying:

Funny that enough of us think alike that threads like this get going...
Problem is, how do you then connect the otg thumb drove to your pc? There would also have to be a backward adapter. Also a switch to un-short the pins that define it as an OTG device.
That's why the cables are an easier way to go for now. ..

USB OTG adapter slightly tight

Hi guys,
Yesterday bought a USB-OTG adapter cable for my P3100 and it has been working flawlessly.
I tried these

Mouse
Keyboard
Mouse+Keyboard together through splitter
I am quite happy with all the setup right now but has a little worry. The adapter is slightly tight when plugging(pushing) it in then Samsung cable(although I could not find any difference at all between both 30-pin connectors. They are absolutely alike.) Should I worry ? Plz advise !
Thanks

I bought an OTG cable myself today but i'm about to split it apart to see if there is anything(one way) inside which prevent me from charging with this.
Charging is blocked by kernel/framework and not by cable. My tab charges fine on CM10 via my laptop

Using that OTC cable? I'm using CM10 my self, but no usb charging with the OTG cable. I looked a bit on the kernel source and otg does prevent incoming power the the vbus, but not sure if that happens as soon as the otg cable in connected or when a device requiring host is connected.

I got a similar OTG cable from ebay (shipped from Hong Kong) for my P3100. It is also slightly tight compared to the original data /charging cable came along with the device. I think it should not be a problem, unless you need to push it with lot of force. I need to push it little harder than the original cable.
I would say tighter better. I have mine quite loose. And always disconnected

I've had some experiences with Samsung connectors, and -in my opinion- they all fit very tightly when new. They tend to get looser over the time. Just try not to force it in the soket; at the beginning a little care is needed, you will see that by getting used to plug and unplug it when tight and by the natural wear that occurs in the components, the odd sensation of tightness will go away.
