Hi,
I wish to view my Canon SLR camera photo in Transformer display via HDMI cable.
Is it possible to use the TF HDMI as an input?

No, the mini HDMI port of the transformer is an output only. You cant use it as a monitor. Same way you can't use the HDMI output of a laptop as an input.
sorry but is simply impossible.

It is just that we do not know HOW yet. That does NOT make it impossible.
Many thanks...
this tablet have too limitations!
I wish to use it to display photo from my camera Canon EOS 7D which use CF card, but it has only SD card reader, so I should use a CF USB reader, but it hasn't a USB port, so I hoped it could show my photo via HDMI... but it cannot!!!

If my memory is correct, there is an adapter for this (kind of). Where the loading slot will be used for this purpose. But still, im not sure how it is...
There are SD to CF adapters on amazon and other sites. But if I were you I would just get the dock. Honestly, there are better tablets if you do not want the dock.

Unless you swap the chipset and data bus beside the min-hdmi port and modify the kernel it is impossible.
Sent from my Transformer TF101
There are SD to compact flash adapter, since CF card are bigger tha SD card, but do not exist any CF to SD adapter.
Do you know any tablet with USB port better than TF at 349 eur?
Why does this thread remind me of this? http://xkcd.com/644/
Either way, sometimes hardware is limited to in or out only. HDMI is one of those ports that is commonly unidirectional only and it is a limitation of the hardware itself, not just software.

Cool, let us know when you've got it working
Here's some options:
1. Get the dock
2. Get the dock
3. Get an Eye-Fi CF to SD adapter on ebay and use the official Eye-Fi android app to transfer wirelessly.
4. Get the dock

Is there any way to get video out with the Titan?
I have a CD deck in my truck that supports video out and thought it would be neat if I could have Tom Tom on the screen.
bump... i have iGo, SlingPlayer Mobile and TCPMP all installed on my Titan, so a video out function would be LOVE-LEE! and surely people would donate to video out software
It's not possible, it's a hardware function and the hardware doesn't support it.
I know the old Dell Axims used to have this functionality. They had a "video card" you could plug in that had a composite video connection on the other end. Perhaps someone makes something that could be hooked up through the mini-usb port or even the micro SD slot?
i'm thinking thru the miniUSB... i dread touching microSD at all costs
it dont support usb host so usb is input only cant talk to other devices
only options are SDIO or bluetooth
What is SDIO?

Secure Digital Input / Output (your memory card slot)
Wiki SDIO
I use MyMobiler to display my PPC on my CarPC. Pretty cool, but doesn't help you any, sorry.
SDIO is used most often in reference to a input/output device, i.e. a wireless card, interface card, network card, etc. Memory is usually just called SD or SDHC depending on the sizes.
I do think SDIO addresses both of these, but the common names for them are as I described above.
BTC
Ahh I see
So are there any bluetooth receivers that output video via RCA cables?

tilt doesn't support video out ... therefore no video out cable.
the tilt CAN do video out.

Not my friend. I've lost both my GF and my dog to Google. Damn you Google!

there both WHOREZ, google is such a slut. it seems there should be some type of software to get video out. be one hell of a coding job thou.
What about http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120353015876? It is for the Raphael, but uses the same USB proprietary plug... I know that the TyTN II does not have video out, but is it a hardware limitation, or is it a software implimentation thing?
Additionally, what about http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280152731909? That would get you to VGA/composite... then I guess you'd run that as video, then run audio out the head phone port... I think it'd be possible that route easiest, albeit not cheapest... and as I look at it, it may only be good for still slides... like maybe it acts as a "printer port" of sorts, and you 'print' the slide to the device... bummer... I thought I was onto something there...
If you read the description of the second link, the requirement says the pda has to have an sd slot. Kaiser would not work with that solution.
Um, isn't the SD slot the thingy that I put my micro SD in? The description states that it is for a MicroSD slot... and by the picture, that sure it what it looks like...
But every thing I read, the SD Slot gets recognised as a printer device, and you 'print' your documents to the port, and the port compiles the 'pages' into slides to output for you as a slideshow...
However, I think the question with the first post stands most important... is it a software difference in the Raphael, or a hardware difference?
Hardware. The chipset in the Kaiser can technically do video out, but the required circuitry is not implemented.

Wonderful reply, thank you. If I happen across the TyTN II I want to find, I will go hacking at it and see if I can do anything with it...
Does anyone know if we have the SDIO port, or if we just have a standard SD port?
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=733&view=1
This lists it as SDIO capable.
If the Redfly and MobileMe can both do video out on the Kaiser, then I'm sure you could get the Kaiser to do video out with the right software.
The trouble is, who is going to write the software? The device has basically been discontinued, and the replacement devices all have video out. So unless you happen to come across an awesoem programmer who just happens to have a Kaiser himself, the chances of it ever happening are pretty slim.
I'm not sure if this technically counts as video out, but there's a freeware application called "mymobiler" that installs a service on your winmo device and then outputs a fully functional display of your device on your computer screen via a USB cable. I used it a few times when I was giving presentations of winmo software I was writing on my Tilt and it works well enough, although it might choke on heavy animation.
Overall not something you could just plug into a video-in somewhere, but it might be a start for those who have PC's etc. running with a touchscreen in their dash.

While I know that honeycomb does not support this yet (but likely will with the sd card upgrade), there have been rumors that the micro USB slot on the XOOM is actually capable of hosting.
Does anyone know this for sure?
Basically, im trying to decide between the XOOM and the unamed Toshiba tablet.
I like that the Toshiba tablet has Hosting with a full usb port, and Im wondering if the XOOM will be able to do the same (albeit with an adapter).
Though, I dont even know if The toshiba tablet will release in the US any time soon.
ALL THANKS TO ROEBEET WHO HAS ENABLED HOSTING OF THUMB STICKS ON THE XOOM! - scroll through this conversation to get to roebeets post!

Look down the page a bit for ...
Note: Optical drive not included
Compatible with optional external recordable CD/DVD drives (not included).
This would imply it does.
Yes, it most definitely will have that capability. Please see the thread here that I started a while back on the Moto Owners Forum, where I was able to get not only Moto reps to confirm this, but also was fortunate enough to get the actual Moto tech who worked on the Xoom's USB to chime in with some info. My guess is, the same software update that will enable the microSD card will also enable the USB host capabilities of the micro USB port (both external data storage).
The USB hosting being locked down software wise, at least initially, is being done to get some quick cash on their accessories. The unlock that they MIGHT provide later would allow 3rd party keyboards and other accessories access to the Xoom.
I really doubt that they will do a software lock later but the fact that it is software locked and not hardware means that someone here in XDA will be able to unlock it for us eventually.

I did a bit of research on this.
So it appears the same situation exists for the dell streak. It also has USB host like motorola (confirmed by moto engineer).
Some guy here: http://linuxslate.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1286562168
Shows how to get USB drives mounted and usable on dell streak running android 2.1 - this appears not to work on android 2.2 and higher.
OF NOTE: with the right cable (apparently some exist that support OTG hosting capabilities) and the right developer - we can absolutely get USB hosting onto the xoom.
Likely, a couple of scenarios exist to getting this working. First, we wait for the microsdcard update for the xoom - which may make it easier to host from the USB port; Second - we wait for a smart developer to port this sort of code into and app or custom rom; Third - we wait for the toshiba tablet to come out (as it has a full USB port for host) and steal its rom and port it to the Xoom.
I have a Nokia OTG cable that I misakenly bought for an Archos 32 (didn't work), and I tried it on my Xoom. I can use a USB keyboard with it, FYI. But a USB mouse I tested does not work.
USB thumb drives may not work as there's no mount point - I might try to create a custom boot.img and test that out, if I have time.
This is the cable I have: http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-USB-Host-...314427?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3a640778bb

This sounds excellent - im happy that xoom has the ability to host - that was the last piece of the puzzle for me - cant wait for the custom roms that implement this ability!

It's coming from Hong Kong, but I think I got mine in less than 2 weeks - this was back in November. I had ordered this cable with an Archos 32 in mind, but I screwed up the first time and got the wrong cable. I'm happy to report that it's finally getting some use.

Hey roebeet, Quick question:
Does this allow you to transfer or write files to the USB drive as well? Or will we have to wait for honeycomb to support sd cards to do this?
Can files be written onto the thumb drive or moved there using a file explorer?
Just wondering!

It doesn't look like it's mounted read-only so I'd say yes.
I've tried hooking up:
Canon 50D to USB = nothing
Canon 50D video out to USB Capture Dongle to USB = nothing
2 different USB Flash Thumb Drives = nothing
2 different spycams = nothing
iPod = nothing

Or am I missing something here?
I've checked in the /Removable folder and it only shows my inserted MicroSD and SD cards. Anywhere else I should be looking? Because nothing pops up on screen when I hook any of those devices up.

The point is you can use USB devices designed to work with Android or for which Android has included drivers. My Nikon DSLRs (D700/0) works fine, my USB stick works fine (Corsair 16GB Flash Voyager), my spycam is built right into the device, in fact there are two of them, and my phone (Touch Pro 2 WiMo 6.5) takes a charge of the USB port just like I would expect it to.
For giggles I plugged in a no name USB mouse and a Transcend 10 in 1 card reader and both just worked right off the bat. That's really all the portable USB devices I have hand or I would have tried more for you.
If you want to use your iPod with the tablet just call Apple up and ask them when they are adding Android support. Same with the Canon camera and anything else that not working really. Best bet though is to just check the forums and see what other people are able to use, lots of threads on the subject and might save you some time.
I would check to make sure you're running the latest firmware available. I'm running the latest US OTA, based on Android 3.1. Nearly everything I've plugged into my USB ports has worked. So far, all of my FAT32 flash drives work, as well as both of my NTFS external hard drives, and a couple of game controllers. Keyboards and mice work as well.
If you're not getting any results from FAT32 or NTFS drives, then you have a problem.
I have my external HITACHI HDD on NTFS working fine but when I've tried to connect my Nexus S in as a drive its just blink on Transformer task bar and thats all
I would love to see my NS connected to Transformer so I can do more work on it.

You are correct - external NTFS HDDs do work on stock TF's when connected via the dock. I think some people are confused, because the TF would not read an NTFS microSD inserted directly into the tablet, but I suspect this is more to do with the way it is mounted (i.e. it is explicitly attempting to mount the microSD as FAT32).

Dave

I've run my external NTFS hard drive before and after root, both on 3.0 and 3.1.
I have not tried to write to the drive but it reads just fine.
I know that 3.1 added support for a broader spectrum of USB devices, and I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of what works and doesn't work!
So far, I've tried:
ACER LIQUID E - Basically just charges the phone and allows for tethering (wish I could mount it) **UPDATE** After rooting and installing busybox and drive mount, Liquid E is able to mount! (Thanks, entropy)
HP WIRELESS MINI KEYBOARD (Model #U10G) - Works flawlessly! Prior to the update, only the keyboard worked, but now the mouse works too, as expected!
SONY CYBERSHOT (Model #DSC-W55) - At first the Iconia didn't detect it, but after I went into the camera menu and changed USB connect mode from "auto" to "mass storage" and plugged it back into the tablet, the Gallery app opened automatically and the pics from the camera magically appeared! Woohoo!
LOGITECH ATTACK 3 JOYSTICK - Not too useful, but it works! Basically it works as a glorified mouse, scrolling up/down/left/right. Pretty basic for now, but perhaps a good flight simulator will come out in the future?
SAMSUNG STORY STATION 1 TB HARD DRIVE - My biggest disappointment... I know there are workarounds to get external drives to work, but I was hoping 3.1 would provide a fix for this. It is formatted FAT32, so I'm not sure what the problem is, but my Iconia isn't picking it up **UPDATE** After rooting and installing busybox and drive mount, Story Station is able to mount! (Thanks, entropy)
I can confirm the iphone 3gs will charge and you can import photos/movies taken on the camera.
I have a cannon camera at home. I know they have a strange interface which always requires me to load a separate driver in windows. I will test it later and let you know.

No idea - would probably involve a rooted device and a custom rom - head to the dev section.
Logitech mx510 and mx518 mice confirmed.
Xbox 360 wired controller works but found no games that use it and it is very clunky for nav'ing the UI in general.
Wacom Bamboo powers but nothing functions.

A "safe" way? I'm pretty sure it won't explode if you just unplug them.
In all seriousness, you should be able to just unplug them without losing data. At least I always have.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason you have to "eject" removable media from windows is because windows has some sort of drive caching to speed things up. This means that just because you have copied a file to your usb drive, doesn't mean the data has actually been written right away.
Furthermore, Windows also locks out files that are in use by an active application. As such, windows makes you "eject" the media in order to give the OS a chance to check to see if any of the files are still in use, to avoid the application having a brain fart and crashing. Also, if an application is in the process of writing to a file and you yank out the drive, the file could become corrupt.
I think both scenarios are not likely to occur on an Android tablet, mainly because its based on a real operating system not designed to treat you like an idiot. Just make sure none of the data is being used by any open apps and you should be fine.
That being said, always make sure to keep backups.
Cheers,

Rooting stock 3.1 takes about ten seconds - i have successfully ran a Logitech laser mouse, a Saitek Eclipse 2 keyboard, a old crappy external 60gb USB hdd, and a 16gb flash stick all at once
