I am trying to repair my Acer Iconia that has no Wifi Working.
I managed to install the Rom Manager, but I still have to install the ROM manager, but I can't find what is the correct one from the ClockWorkMod site
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks a lot!

You need the specially modified CWM that's posted in the dev section. Any other version will NOT work and WILL brick your tablet if you try it.
Don't use ROM Manager, it's not compatible with A500 ROM flashing for now.

I managed to get that working now. I wasnt aware that the ROM Manager wouldn't work, tough. Thanks for the heads up!

After Flashing Rom and Acer Recovery

So I have a question on after you flash the ROM of choice and you are having problems and want to go back.
Lets say your problem is no network access and you cant get to the market to get Acer recovery or CWM.
Are you still able to restore your tablet back to working. Is the Thor recovery program still on the tablet.
This should be my last question before I do my first flash and then I think I have all bases covered.
I think...
Thanks

I'll do you one better...
No need to corner yourself with potential network access in order to get to market...etc
get the Acer Recovery Installer apk here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159976
now go have fun
Once again thanks for the help.
I was looking for this but sometimes I don't have much luck with the search function on this forum or any other forum for that matter.
Now I can commence with the festivities....
Thanks again.

[Q] booting recovery kernel image fails

Hello,
I recently bought a A500 and am trying to flash a custom rom.
The version of the tab is 1.135.02_AAP_CUS4 and when I try to boot to the recovery kernel I get for a short period of time a progress bar and the an exclamation mark and the tablet is stuck (reboot to normal mode helps).
Do I have to put any update.zip file on the SD card (which is inserted) ?
TIA Werner
Custom ROMs can only be installed using CWM, it is not clear in your post if you have it.
No, I don't have CWM so far.
So I will check the forums on how to get and use it.
One more thing I have to mention, my A500 is a chinese one just the language setting has been changed to english.
Thanks for the reply.
Werner
No problem
I guess it´s ok to flash any custom ROM, but make a backup in CWM before installing any custom.
Yep, a backup is essential, because normally you need one when you don't have one
CWM is installed, backup done.
Now for the decision which rom to use.
Thanks for the hints, these helped me to find the right path.
Best Regards,
Werner
I´m using Dexter´s PRIMEE P9, with HC 3.2. His ROM was the first I used, and the one I like best. You can find a modded version in rom dev section, or his original work here: http://tabletroms.com/forums/showthread.php?983-ROM-02august-HC3.2-PRIMEE-p9-3-port-for-Iconia-A500/
Good luck!
I have choosen HoneyVillain for now, but when I return from my next trip will give PRIMEE a try.
Thanks again for the help, now I have a useful tablet.
Best Regards,
Werner

[Q] cannot flash HTC Wildfire Clockworkmod Recovery

hi folks!
FIRST SOME DETAILS !
DID S-OFF WITH REVOLUTIONARY
HBOOT 01.001 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
FROYO 2.2.1 (YES ROOTING IT IS POSSIBLE..)
AS A TEST I WAS ABLE TO PUT LIVEWALLPAPERPICKER.APK IN SYSTEM/APP ON ROOT OF THE PHONE
so i guess its clear im properly rooted also i have the SU app.
since i am desperate and tired of searching the whole google engine for like a thousand of times keep finding the same posts, i decided to make my own one since they (or not match) or dont work for me. so here's my situation.
I recently was so happy i finally succeeded in rooting the phone with s-off (revolutionary) and ofcourse i wanted an custom rom with overclock kernel as fast as possible.
Now im still stuck at this stock rom. i do have been able to activate live wallpapers on go launcher pro still on the same rom so i guess the rooting isnt the problem.
THIS IS MY PROBLEM..
i saw an tutorial where they told me to download an custom rom and rom manager. i did what they said but when i run rom manager and clicked flash clockworkMod recovery (the first one) it just loads (i am able to pick HTC Buzz(Wildfire) as my phone model. but then it says:
==================
Succesfully DOWNLOADED clockworkmod recovery
not flashed! i cannot flash it! also i tried root toolbox and it doesnt even give a message when i erase or flash the recovery. nothing! it says please wait and then nothing.
i realy hope someone could help me!! i cant stand this slow clocked rom!
i realy appreciate help!
i am dutch so excuse me for my rubbish english!
Getting Clockworkmod from ROM Manager is a "temporary" solution in any case. It would be recommended to get a permanent version of Clockworkmod Recovery in case you are looking to flash Custom ROM's and stuff.
There are many basic ways to go about it, you can pick any you wish:
1: Via Fastboot. There is a process here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
2: Via Unrevoked. Download the Clockworkmod Recovery.img file, an older version of Unrevoked, and run it. Make sure to Select File > Custom Recovery before starting the method.
3: Via Renaming Zip to PC49IMG. Guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
BTW, Didn't Revolutionary ask you whether you want to load Clockworkmod? It is supposed to, and normally, it is the easiest way, without any hassles.
dude you just safe the day!! at first it looked like the first option wouldnt work but now it did! thank you so much man i cant tell you how happy i am! kudo's for you man!
It's the method I personally use as well, and having Fastboot enabled is a great thing. It can be a lifesaver at times.
i made a succesfull backup and now its loading the system. cyanogen mod 7 and its now just loaded when im texting this! so glad man realy! cant wait to fully try it out!
Make sure to get the latest nightly its stable, has more features and is just much better than 7.03 or rc1.

[Q] How do I install a .zip ROM on CWM 5.0.0.5?

I know this is the wrong thread for my phone, but my phone has no forum at all.
I am an idiot and I have this little crappy phone called Huawei Ideos U8150, and basically I did **** installing this CM7 ROM I don't really like, so I want to install a new rom wich comes in this page:
droidxda.blogspot.com/2012/01/romhuawei-u8150u812081xxice-cream_08.html#axzz1oHk1OAra
(since I'm a new user, I can't link).
The prob. is that every single time I want to install, it appears as if there is an error at recovery mode and pops me out the normal menu saying some options, if I try unzip it here is the same. Unzipping at my PC won't help. This lil' bastards are tricky and delete .apk files if I unzip them there.
I am pretty surprised I didn't bricked my phone.
Explain me step-by-step and easily what to do, I don't know everything about this.
what if you try with CWM 5.0.2.7 ?
the post says:
Huawei U8150 | CWM 5.0.2.7 Only
might be worth a shot
PS:
dunno where you can find that cwm but google might help you there
Thanks but...

I would, if you could help me find an .apk for 5.0.2.7 since one of reasons of me wanting to change is the lack of gapps

Looking to do a stock install of 3.2 on A501

LIST OF FILES
Please note that none of these files are rooted and/or tweaked! They are stock Android ROMs from Acer and designed for stock recovery!
Flashing them will remove custom recovery and/or custom bootloader! You will be fully stock! Update zips may not install if you have modified your device in any way. If unsure use a full package! You need an EUU package only if your device is bricked as it will be completely wiped clean in the process!

I am looking for the 3G version the 3.2 stock ROM to do a fresh install on my A501
The link from Vache seems dead.. can anyone please help to provide that particular ROM?
Thanks a lot. Desperately need some help as I'm password locked out!

Best to just get stock ICS. Why are you password locked? Is the device stolen? I can easily help you get past it but I'm not sure whether I should.

Thanks blackthunder. It's our personal device, my wife set the password some time back and is sure she hasn't forgotten but for some reason it's not being accepted. We can't figure out why! I have the original receipt and box etc in case anyone's interested!
I tried the stock ICS Rom by naming it update.zip and rebooting into recovery, but that gets stuck at the Android guy logo immediately. Also tried 3.2 before that via a link from this page, and that seems to work until the progress bar hits about 80%. Then it just reboots back to the dreaded locked screen. From what I understand I can only do a reinstall of the same ROM version that's currently installed? We have a password lock on it, and not pattern. Would highly appreciate any help. . Really want this thing to start working again. It's practically new [emoji20]
Guys any idea? Really desperate here. Thanks in advance!!

Your beat bet is using an EUUs package to wipe the tablet and reset back to 3.0.1 then use Flash Tool to get CWM or TWRP + a decent ROM

To install EUUs, is it the same process; rebooting with power+volume and flashing via SD card? What version EUUs do you think I need, currently I have 3.2 installed. Is there a guide for above?... will be a lot of help. Many thanks

Actually, even easier.....use the APX Flash Tool to get yourself a CWM Image (you'll need your SBK....there's a fair few guides on obtaining this) then do a wipe data/factory reset within CWM.
From there it's fairly easy to side load the latest Acer ROM.
Thanks. I'll try it out over the weekend! Appreciate your help!
God morning! For the apx tool, I'm not sure if USB debugging option is selected, never ticked that myself consciously. Is it OK to go ahead?
Tried using the apx tool after downloading the Acer USB drivers and in short no luck.
Had to go the manual route for flashing since I don't have USB debugging enabled.
Tried two packages, one honeycomb bundle 6 and then also tried a later one for ICS.
It goes thru the motions enters APX mode with confirmation as well on the tab screen, without any hiccups right to the end. But then reboots to the old dastardly lock screen asking for password!
Any ideas? Already backed up using mobo app so am OK to wipe clean and start anew.

Options for upgrading an Acer A500: Acer_A500_4.010.15_COM_GEN1
OK, heres a totally noob question. I have an Acer A500 I bought used. It has been rooted apparently. Has the ClockWorkMod bootloader installed, v5.0.
My question is, what are my options to upgrade this tablet and is there a thread with instructions on which firmware files to use, how far can I go with upgrading the A500 (ICS?). Not really looking to trick it out and go the whole mod route, would be happy with stock firmware, just looking to make it a little more up to date and, above all _stable_! The main issue I have with it now is the wifi craps out every month or so and I have to do a refresh and wipe all info and start over.
I used to get prompted to install a system update, and every time, it would fail with the dead Android dude on his back....so sad. Now, it just tells me, "Network Coverage is poor, please move to a location with better coverage". I am sitting right beside my router...
Here are the relevant specs:
Model number: A500
Build number: Acer_A500_4.010.15_COM_GEN1
Kernel version: 2.6.36.3
If you need any other info in order to help, just let me know.
Thank you very much in advance for any advice!!
