prep for OTA - Acer Iconia A500

hi guys. I was running us update 1.147.07 before installing cwr and then switched to 3.1 leaked. When I ran my restore it took me back to 1.147.04? I then used Acer recovery tool to install stock recovery 1.147.07 . But system build still sits at 1.147.04. Tried a factory reset and still at 1.147.04? Will I get the OTA too 3.1? I'm worried I need to somehow reinstall the 1.147.07 that was pushed to the tablet but can't pull from settings. Any help?

Any suggestions? I can restore to 3.1 leak rooted cwr or my stock 1.147.04

Sounds like a mismatched flexrom to me. Did you backup the flexrom partition?

You seems trying to use Acer recovery tool to return to 1.147.07 but it should be impossible! Acer recovery tool can help you to restore the stock RECOVERY but not your system so you can't go back to 1.147.07. You will need to find a 1.147.07 package(>300MB) and flash it. Hope this help you!

Let me know what you need to check my flexrom version. i wanna get this straightnend out

I used acer recovery to flash CWR. i then used CWR to flash 3.1 leak. I used CWR to then recover the stock backup I had. and then used acer recover to reflash stock recovery

Those interested in getting back their OTA, properly backing up their original ROMS or restoring them, please follow the tutorials in this thread:

Can you reverse flashing a recovery image?

Hi Guys,
I'm a little new to all this so please bear with me..
Just rooted my MT4g and want to make a nandroid backup before i do anything. However i see that i need to use CWM to flash a custom recovery image in order to make the backup.
Is there anyway to reverse that recovery image back to stock? Incase i need to revert the phone completely back to stock...
Thanks.
Sorry, i think i found it!
I'm guessing this is it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289
Please close this thread if that's it.. sorry for spamming.
If you completed the root process then you already have CwM recovery. Just use Rom Manager to make a backup. If you have to revert back to stock the process will reinstall the stock recovery img for you.

Hmm okay. I did successfully root the device and I was following this write up to backup the phone using nandroid which says i need to flash a custom recovery ROM.
I just tried to backup current ROM and it gives me a message saying i must flash CwM recovery first and gives me an option to install it. But i'm guessing it's possible to restore that from the link in my second post?
You can use clockwork to restore your factory rom, but if you want to revert your recovery back to stock you will need to fastboot flash the stock recovery back on. This is assuming you have first flashed the stock rom which will leave you without clockwork rom manager installed. There's a few unroot guides that will help you if you need to send your phone back to tmo. I would suggest becoming familiar with ADB and Fastboot. That knowledge will give you more options in a pinch.
Swyped on my rooted MyTouch4G
Thanks much!
Yes i am doing a lot of reading right now, but wanted to make sure all the files i needed were out there for the MT4G already. Looks like the factory recovery is out there and it can be flashed back so i'm not to worried.

Yes all the files are out there that you would need to pretty much do whatever needed. Check out the links in my sig for some good things.

If you made a nandroid backup using clockworkmod (you should have), just do a full restore. ba-da-bing.
The acer recovery tool you mention is just for installing clockworkmod, it won't install a rom itself. clockwork mod does that.
i didn't create a backup so i guess i'm out of luck.

Maybe you are not... Dexter provided a stock rom on his first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121790
Check this post. flashing those 4 files (don't forget itsmagic), will put you at version 1.104.02_GEN1_COM (U.S. Stock).
Skip flashing the recovery if you don't want to lose ClockworkMod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14967064&postcount=206
If you want a specific version, ask someone to uplaod a ClockworkMod backup of boot, system and flexrom and use ClockworkMod to restore it.
thanks euclid. I might try this later but i can't figure out itsmagic. I installed the clockworkmod recovery with acer recovery installer. Can i just boot into recovery after that and have itsmagic work?
edit: i got its magic running then did the steps in the post minus the recovery. when it was done the device rebooted and got stuck on the acer logo. after that i booted into clockwork and installed the 3.1 update.zip and now my tablet is working fine again.

[Q] K1 CM9 - CWM/will not boot after update

Can't post reply to DEV section yet.
I installed the updated CWM zip to my K1. Rebooted, got:
"Unsupported menu option selected: 1
Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000002)."
Any ideas? installed so I could backup my current 3.2...guess it's gone
I met the same problem, we need nvflash again, just fellow the nvflash method.
Yes, a clean nvflash of the rooted stock image, and then a flash of CM9 should get it to work.
Are you still having issues?
Fixed
I didn't find any way to recover my 3.2. I went ahead and flashed to CM9 via nvflash. Install went well, was able to reboot into recovery, backup, ect.
I like the effort put into the port, thanks. I need to be able to play video and use bluetooth.
I had hoped to use my backup of 3.2 to switch back and forth, testing out the new builds, but lost my setup. No big deal.
I ended up putting the recovery.img into the Alpha3 3.2 nvflash package. I now have a working CWM and a nandroid of my 3.2 setup and the CM9 setup.
I'm not sure what the problem was with the CWM update zip package. I used the same recovery.img file...

[Q] Acer a500 Factory Restore

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to restore my tablet to absolute factory settings......i have ClockwordMod and thors ICS build installed. I need factory like factory unrooted rom and also all personnel files gone along with clockworkMod gone. I need this done so i can send it to acer. I dont want to find out what will happen if they see its rooted and junk.
Moscow Desire said:
Easiest way is to copy a stock rom on your ext SD card. You can get one in vaches thread ' full packages' in the dev forum.
Then boot to recovery. Do wipes. Go to recovery and restore and toggle data/media. Then go to mounts and storage and do full formats.
This will format everything in internal memory.
Then flash the stock rom.

+1 i would flash an old stock rom than get the ota update or just flash a stock rom....a bit off topic but what do you think acer would do if you sent in a rooted tablet?

Most cases nothing. Although technically they could charge you. Considering all the bricked tabs on the first ics update, I'm sure they don't bother looking.
thanks for all the help. I was able to flash to a stock rom!
I did these steps and must have made a mistake on the rom and now I am bootlooping. Any advice on how to restore back to factory would be appreciated

You will need your UID
Download the following file
EUUs_SBK_Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1.zip
You will have to search to find it.
Then follow the instructions from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012
Don't use the Timmydean version as it is rooted and doesn't have the stock recovery use the file you downloaded.
This will return you to stock.

CWM 5.5.0.4 and 5.8.31

what is the difference between CWM 5.5.0.4 and 5.8.3.1. Why ROM manager installed CWM 5.8.3.1 in Galaxy Tab P7500 while taking backup, though CWM 5.5.04 was already installed using ODIN I.85. Is it necessary to re install CWM 5.5.0.4. If so, how to re install CWM 5.5.0.4. My galaxy TAB P7500 is running on stock ICS 4.04.
Only a few changes are made(you can't even say where)from 5.5.0.4 to 5.8.3.1...
The ROMmanager must make sure that the CWM on your device matches with the version of the APP,but upgrading does no harm i.e. it's no need to reinstall CWM...
Beware!don't go into CWM if you are on the stock ICS because it has the rolling screen issue, flash all you need with ROMmanager, don't install CWM touch when you are using stock ICS(it'll be a waste of time, mony, etc)
If you want to get out of CWM(5.5.0.4) after flashing but get confused with the rolling screen just do thisress vol down and then press the power button twice...the tab restarts with all the changes you've made...
And finally:feel free to ask questions,XDA in always here to help you!

I'm using CWM 5.5.0.4 here with stock ICS. No problems at all.
5.5.0.4 is the version recommended to prevent rolling recovery.
I also followed pershoot's advice in the 2.6.36.4 thread. I did get the rolling recovery even with 5.5.0.4.
I am on stock US ICS and odined the following:
(1) US ICS 4.0.4 BL variant
(2) Recommended recovery (CWM non touch 6.0.1.2)
Now I have no flicker in the recovery or the ROM like I had experienced in the past. However, I'm rather way of CWM 6.0.1.2 because I used the previous non-touch (6.0.1.1 I think) and wasn't able to restore a Nandroid...it just hung on me. Where did you get the 5.5.0.4 that worked with stock ICS ROM/BL Jack?
Hi dj.
Can't remember now where I got 5504, read so many guides.
I have it in my drop box.
I'll post the link for it shortly.
Really

You're welcome.
Good luck.
Thank you for your nice advice and assurance. Sir I have another question/doubt. Please clarify
I am having P7500 in India. I flashed Italian stock rom 4.04 using ODIN. Later rooted the Tab using CWM 5.5.4 method. subsequently I installed ROM Manager. I did back up. It appears that CWM version was changed by ROM manager. Now I want to flash Indian stock rom 4.04 recently released and also rooting. Please suggest a mode.
Download the stock IN firmware from Sammobile and flash in Odin with PDA with your tablet in download mode. You will lose everything on your internal storage so if you want to keep your backups make sure to move them off the tablet before you flash.
You'll find lots of guides in the Q&A and Dev sections that will provide root methods for your 4.0.4 stock firmware. Or, you can skip all of this and just flash a rooted ICS ROM with a full wipe to save yourself the steps. It's really up to you.
Thank you Sir for your valuable advice.
Please clarify, If I flash INU stock ROM 4.04 on ITLY stock ROM 4.04, using ODIN, will it wipe out applications data also?
Earlier When I flashed ITLY stock ROM 4.04 on my original stock ROM 3.2 INU on my galaxy tab p7500 using ODIN, it did not wipe out any data from internal storage and all the applications were automatically installed after reboot..
It may, it may not...it depends on whether or not you boot up after the flash without issues. If you get stuck on the Samsung logo or a boot loop, you will need to boot into stock Android recovery and do a factory reset, that would format your /data partition and result in loss of apps etc.
That Thanks button works well if I have helped you makes me look like less of a noob! Good luck to you

I recommend doing a full wipe with CWM recovery before flashing with ODIN. Doing that avoids having to do a full wipe with Stock recovery which wipes the internal. Wiping before flash should avoids formatted internal. Would others confirm, this is what I have noticed on my tab.
