[Q] LCARS bootanimation - Desire Themes and Apps

Now LCARS bootanimation for desire
youtube link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zdeQDXGWyQ&feature=related

well, tested it my self on my desire, it works
extreact the signed zip, flash bootanimation through android flasher, thats it, reboot and enjoy.
credit goes to jrams over at htc 4g forum.
here is a screen shot:
file:

I have successfully pushed the bootanimation.zip to the /system/media folder and this runs well on an Oxygen ROM (2.16) however it is far too quick, it gets the the final image with "Memory Alpha Online" and then almost instantly goes black for a few seconds before displaying the lockscreen. Also, the associated sound file does not seem to play. How would I go about fixing these two issues? Or does anyone have a fix already implemented I could simply overwrite?

if there was a way to install through CWM would be awsome.......by the way im using HTC Desire CDMA

i did find a reply on a different site but I forgot to bookmark it. He mentioned that he had managed to get the animation both lengthened and the zip converted to edify scripting for flashing with CWM 3 and up, but I have no idea how to reproduce this

I think the ROM manager uses an 'old' CWM 2.5.0.7 as a 'fake flash'. This CWM is able to process the 'old' scripting.
The best thing is, you don't loose your original CWM.
It's just like using the old CWM temporarely.
Go for it and please report back.
Cheers
Dirk

Yes the fake flash with rom manager does indeed work in terms of it will push the files to the system partition. Although it depends which rom you are using as it might push it to somewhere that doesn't get read. This can just as easily be done with es file explorer however.
Is anyone able to tell me how to extend the animation? Is it literally just a case of cloning the files and renaming the sequence and rezipping?

Htc Dialer and Contacts apk

Does anyone know where i could get the apk for the htc smart dialer and contacts applications found in the rogers build?
Android Market. 3 day free trial and then £2.99
Thanks, but that is not what i mean. What i am talking about are custom applications made by htc that only appear on their custom builds, not in the market. I wanted to see if there was a way of obtaining them similar to the way of obtaining htc's custom keyboard.

You could download a Roger's ROM from the dream forum and extract the .apks from there.
@thefoss
could you explain how that is done; just from the point where you extract the rogers rom.
Well I tried installing the HTC Contacts and Dialer APK from the hero build but no success says it will NOT install on This Phone. Even tried the Smart Dialer from the Market and does the same thing.
OH by the way I tried to install them on my Mytouch 3G with no success Someone help us out on this Plz

Your def not moving over htc dialer and contacts to mytouch with out root. Its not just not happening right now. And superdial from the market installs just fine
That app is SLOW :/
If you really want all HTC stuff simply install HTC image...
The problem is that you'll need to install lot of HTC stuff with that dialer...
The idea is cool but... slow :/
HERO applications will NOT work on NON-HERO ROM's.
The HTC Smart Dialer and Contacts is NOT A HERO APPLICATION

Go here and download the Rogers-Wiped Nandroid image. When you unzip that package there will be a collection of .img files. Go here and download Unyaffs (I have only used it on Ubuntu and I have no idea how it will work on Windows) and put it in your android-sdk/tools directory (assuming this has been added to your PATH). Make a directory called system and cd into it. Use unyaffs to extract the system.img file that you downloaded
Code:
unyaffs system.img
In that system folder there should be a bunch of folders and a few files. Look in the app folder. You will see the .apk files there.
Hope this has helped a bit!
i guess the mytouch has to be rooted for this to work on it. they wont install via appmanager, but why does htc_ime.apk work and these wont. im guessing because they are system files. yeah im a noob
Make sure you have the install from "Unknown Sources" checked... Then try again. It is in the APP manager under settings.
ive rooted my mytouch, and the apk's wont install on cyanogen 32B 3.9.9.1
i would really like to know about this as well. my mytouch doesnt have a rooted rom on it but i do have superuser permissions. can i push it using adb? i wouldnt know what commands to use.
I wanted to bring back this thread because I have the same question as the above 2 posters.
Does anyone know why the apk installer wont install the contacts apk (my phone is rooted, and I pulled the apk from a rom that I've used on this phone)?
those HTC utilities are not open source, hence they are not included in any of the cyanogen mods. the HTC framework that is needed for them to work is simply not present.
your only option is to get a rom for the rogers/tim etc which does include them..
Extracted htc_contacts.apk
I've extracted the file htc_contacts.apk and I've opened with Archive manager under Ubuntu.
I've found many many XML files, some certs... I think the installer check the phone model and then says You cannot install the apk. But if the apk is the only source for installatione, we could find the controls in it.
Am I wrong?

[Q] How to install circular battery?

Hi there... I'm trying to install a circular battery indicator using this guide -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7172329&postcount=2
I go to the online kitchen and select my battery alternative and the upload my framework-res.apk file and get a zip-package in return.
The guide says to reboot into recovery mode but that doesn't work since it will only make a normal reboot.
I opened the zip file and copied the framework-res.apk file inside and copied it to the system/framework folder using RootExplorer. This DID give me the circular battery after rebooting but unfortunately it will keep rebooting in an endless loop (don't worry, I have a backup of my whole SD card).
There were another folder in the zip package containing the following files.
\META-INF\CERT.RSA
\META-INF\CERT.SF
\META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
\META-INF\COM\\GOOGLE\\ANDROID\update-script
Does anyone know what to do with those files, please!!??
Brgds... /Tubgirl
So it seems like the other files are only needed for the recovery mode procedure and framework-res.apk is really the only file needed.
Too bad it didn't work. I like the circle battery but am not willing to change ROM for it since the ROM I'm using is rock stable. MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4

Thanks for the tip... it looks great and I'll make sure to use it if I ever upgrade to MDJ FroYo HD v.4.6.
I'm on MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4 and even though the file you suggested actually installed the circular battery icon (which looked excellent) it screwed up lots of text strings in my Android. I guess the framework-res.apk really has to be customized for the exact correct rom you're using.
Thanks anyway... I still hope anyone knows the answer.

[Q] LeeDrOiD 3.0.2 boot animation

I have tried to edit the boot animation using UOT kitchen on the LeeDrOiD rom since version 2.2 but have had no success!
i believe it is stored in system/customize/resources. i pick this option in UOT and the boot animation doesn't change.. i pick the option "Sense ROM" in UOT and still no change... any ideas?
It might be write-protected. If you can, get root explorer, and get a custom animation zip file.
Make sure its called bootanimation.zip
Copy to SD.
Using root explorer, navigate to system/customize/resources, mount as writeable, (little touchbox near the top). You should see a file called bootanimation.zip in there- that is the one in use.
Now go back, find where you saved your custom bootanimation.zip, copy and replace the other file. If you want, rename the original to bootanimation(1).zip and place your custom zip in next to it (in case it doesnt work and you want to revert to previous animation.)
Exit, Reboot, and should be done =)
Hope this helps.
Yeah that method definitely works as I've got a custom bootanimation on LeeDrOiD 3.0.2
Also, while you're there, you can delete (or rename) android_audio.mp3 if you want to get rid of the sound on startup.

Think so yeah.
I thought S-OFF was needed to make changes to the system folder while the phone was switched on (in it's normal mode...) ?
Maybe I misread somewhere
Like I said, I'm not too sure, I guess there's no harm trying it with S-ON?
@UKseagull, if you want to get S-OFF on the desire, try Unrevoked-Forever, if that doesn't work (like for me) I found an alternative.
Get AlphaRev, Click Here and download the .iso file.
However, I had a little problem burning the image as it wouldn't boot, so I used virtualBox to run it and gain S-OFF that way.

Confirming, to edit system folder you need to be s-off. Any problems with adobe flash, as it's in system, you need to be s-off. Struggled to make changes till s-offed today.
I'm gonna give it a try now..
I'm S-ON so if that doesn't work, would using adb work?
Edit: Just realised there's a second page LOL. I don't particularly wanna S-OFF, should I try adb?

I believe if you use ADB you can put the bootanimation.zip into /system/customize/resource folder.
If you haven't flashed the ROM yet you can just delete the original bootanimation.zip from the ROM zip folder and replace it with whichever one you want..

MIUI MMS Size Fix - 1.12.9, 1.12.16 (MMS Size Changed), 2.3.4a

So, i got fed up with dealing with thumbnail MMS for TMOUS while using MIUI, and i dont believe using a different txt messaging app is a viable solution, thus, i took matters into my own hands and edited the UA in the messaging app to NexusOne.
!!!NEW CHANGES!!!
This uses the N95 UA and Uaprof for carrier compatibility reasons.
The MMS Size has been changed to 120000 per request from relldroid
I tested this on my own phone without any issues.
Based off of 1.12.16, 1.12.9 and the latest stable 2.3.4a
Simply boot into CWRecovery and flash like any other update
Let me know of any issues, and i'll try to help as much as possible
Thank you.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download file for your chosen build
2) Save it to your SDCARD (root dir is the easiest)
3) Boot into CWM Recovery
4) Select "load zip from SDCARD"
5) Select zip file on SDCARD
6) Reboot
-6a) It can be considered safe measure to wipe the cache and Dalvik cache prior to rebooting. No harm no foul
--Alternatively, if you use Rom Manager, you can use that as well. That program works directly with CWM Recovery.
How-To for yourselves
Hard Method;
Req - SystemUI.apk, Framework.apk, MMS.apk (all from the same build, no mismatching) APKManager (google is your friend )
1, install APKManager
2, move SystemUI.apk -> c:\users\*your username here*\APKTool\
3, rename Framework.apk -> 1.apk
4, move 1.apk -? c:\users\*your username here*\APKTool\Framework\
5, move MMS.apk -> ~\apkmanager\place-apk-here-for-editing
6, run apkmanager from the installed directory (instructions of how to run it is with the download)
7, decompile mms.apk
8, within the \projects\ folder, there will be a folder labeled MMS, locate the xml file mms_config
9, edit the string userAgent -> NexusOne (other useagents can also work, NexusOne is a known working one for HD2 + TMOBILE)
10, once edited, compile, hit yes, then yes
11, follow the one screen instructions (it's straight forward)
12, rename the newly created apk unsignedMMS.apk (located in \place-apk-here-for-modding) to MMS.apk
13, place the new MMS.apk into the \system of your phone
14, reboot
Easy method:
Req - latest MMS fix
1, download my latest fix
2, unzip
3, unzip the mms.apk (treating the mms.apk as a zip file)
4, locate mms_config.xml
5, copy to the new mms.apk (again, treating as a zip file
6, move to \system of your phone
7, reboot
Use only the above instructions if you know what you are doing, I take no responsibilities in any damage/issues caused by the provided methods.

Im using JW MIUI 1.4.29 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050645
How i went about it is that i put the mms.apk in the root of my sd card using ES File Explorer (which supports system rw mounting) then copied the file into \system\app\, overwriting the original.
If you try to install it as a normal apk, it will reject it, since it's a system app

MIUI is a custom android suit, like how sense is for android. It originally started out as a knock off from the iPhone but evolved into something more unique. Go check it out @ www.miuiandroid.com, they update the rom once a week, every friday
Still a novice here....
How do you flash the size fix with the zip file?
Do I just unzip the file using root explorer?q

BLACK bootanimation

The first thing I wanted to do after I root my Desire was to change the boot animation from 'screaming' white to black.
Since a few friends begged me to put them somewhere that is always available, I decided to do here
So for those who want the original, but black HTC boot, down and shotdown animation they are free to take it from here
P.S. I added the splash screen, if someone wants to
Boot animation for HTC Sensation is here.
Ooh, looks nice, I'll have a go at that thank you - much easier on the eyes!
This is exactly what I was looking for
Thank you very much

Yes. Simply replace the existing file with this.
Every developer puts the animation to another place
Shotdown animation is just for froyo rom because gingerbread has only boot & down animation.
And these are made even while the froyo was topical

Thanks, but, how do I check permissions? I'm not that adept with Linux, so I'm very new to the adb shell.
Also, I threw this into /data/local/ where I think the downanimations and such should be (I think they start in system/customize/resource/ and then get moved on install) but it still didn't work. I'm going to try the resource folder and see where that gets me, but it could be that I didn't manually change permissions. I can't see my data/local/ folder in ASTRO.

I'm S-OFF'd using RCMixS (Robocik) v2.0 using this mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110921 which is just the stock Robocik ROM with D2EXT. I didn't want any of the test unstable stuff.
It's the stock hboot version and I used the stock hboot when I S-OFF'd.
I've upped downanimations before and it worked without changing permissions. Also, I've tried just opening the ROM .rar file and added them to that (replacing the ones already there) then repacking the rar and flashing but that sometimes doesn't like to work. Is there some process to follow when repacking a ROM?
I think that error is the only thing stopping me from changing ROM's to how I like them to be fair.
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you

Try with Root Explorer or estrong file manager.
Boot & down animations are in /data/local or /system/customize/resource. It depends on the developer. But you must see a files. Root explorer shows that even if the file on that location is real or just simlink.
After copying the file with Root Explorer to the location, by clicking on the file, you get a menu. Select permission and set permission (rw-r--r--) for downanimation.zip
It must work.
I put my boot & downanimations and other essential items are usually put the zip before the flash
nice. i think they will need a matching splash to go with
Thanks for this, can you use root explorer to add these?

It's ok, ADB worked well. The animation only works on shutdown, not reboot. So it was just my bad!
Not sure why ASTRO can't see inside the the data/local/ folder, but it sees the rest of the root file system. Strange, but ADB push worked initially!
Thanks.....
Always on the hunt for nice(r) boot/down screens....
