Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB (model GT-P7510)
Honeycomb 3.1 (build HMJ37.UEKF3)
purchased open box retail at local bestbuy
was unlocked when purchased
works fine
encrypted. set up. installed about a dozen apps.
storage space seems fine:
28.01 GB available - 433MB of apps - 133MB of files - 4kb fluff = 27.46GB available
however, internal memory seems busted:
Settings/Applicaitons/Running reports 171MB used and 407MB free
?407
What do you other GT owners show?
Should this be a real 1024MB available?

Lulz.
This is the Galaxy Tab forum, not the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the GT-P1000 not the GT-P7510
Seeing as you've even stated the product code so you know the difference but refused to pay attention.

moderators, feel free to move to the appropriate forum. i will repost there.
i watched the noob video. jeesh.
not my fault Samsung did not name it something like New More Awesome Tab and picked the same name.
I selected Tablets at the top of the forum index.
There is only one set of Galaxy Tab items when you do that.
For us noob's sake, remove those shortcuts, put the devices in alphabetical/logical order.
get off my arse.

Then go through forums. The devices are in chronological order. Its a lot easier to navigate through devices that way.

Galaxy Tab P1013

Samsung is releasing a new Tab under the Model No. P1013
the only confirmed difference from P1010 is the black back cover , nothing else
Hardware is the same , and it using Froyo 2.2.1
so far it is using the same ROM installed on P1010. you can find the model No. P1013 mentioned only on the back cover .
Where did you get it?
In the US?
Still under development. the one I got is for testing purposes only.

i want this back cover i think it can be inistalled on the p1000 model , another question will this be the galaxy tab 2 7" after the development is finished or it will be same hardware

I have tried 5 or 6 Samsung devices before being released, after release no hardware changes only software.
Last week I tried the galaxy tab 8.9 inches; honeycomb is laggy. But for sure it will much faster after fixing all of the bugs. It will be much better than ipad2.
By the way. You can install the back cover on P1000, not easy but applicable.

Official: no Android 4.0 for Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab (according to SamMobile)

From SamMobile.com:
"Samsung has announced that both the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab can handle the upgrade to Android 4.0 when looking purely at speed of the device.
However the upgrade will not arrive on these devices simply because certain hardware features will not function.
The quantity of RAM and ROM in this is a big factor.
Some of the Touhwizz functions Samsung uses will not work when combined with Android 4.0 and one of these devices."
http://www.sammobile.com/2011/12/22/official-no-android-4-0-for-galaxy-s-and-galaxy-tab/
Let the discussions begin!
I wasn't really expecting ICS :/ I guess this just makes it official that we won't get it.

yup.. i'm running an early alpha of a CM9 based ICS on my Tab and it runs fine for not having hardware acceleration etc. So I know the same applies for the Epic. Sad that Samsuck just doesn't feel like putting the effort into supporting their devices.. Oh well, hooray capitalism! =P
So, here is their source for the story:
http://www.samsungtomorrow.com/2043
It's in Korean, and reading it through google translate of babelfish is good for a chuckle.
As I interpret it, they say that the Nexus S works because it requires no carrier customization , Touchwiz or region specific features.
Also, from the babel fish translation:
"The soluble memory dosage is insufficient and will provide a satisfied use environment
There is not a possibility.
This considers the hardware evening sunlight, use environment of optimum to the customers provision
Description below being a selection which is inevitable for to understand, wishes."
I think that may mean the phone is near end of life (hardware evening sunlight)
and customers wouldn't like how ICS runs on this hardware anyway.
Oh well, we'll see how CM9 runs.

Maybe, if there is an ICS port in the next 6 months that's smooth and fully functional I'd go there. But I'm moving on to LTE asap.
Just means no "official" ICS, I'm sure devs will have something for it. I would imagine that most of the people that know what they're missing will be on to new phones by then anyway.
Hopefully they can pull off cm9 for the gs series.

Samsung just keeps on giving!
This is just Samsung being downright LAZY. Heck the Nexus S is getting ICS from them right? And that is most definitely a Galaxy S phone. They just don't want to be bothered to support the Galaxy S line as a whole anymore clearly.
If we didn't have to worry about touchwiz... it would be here by now... why do we need it when the UI of ICS is far superior. At the very least release the driver source files so that devs can do it for you... Samsung needs to be more open to developers in that regard.

Keep in mind that this isn't just Samsung's pickiness about having their TW branding. This is also a product of carrier demands. Carriers do NOT like (for the most part) unbranded, undifferentiated phones, and they especially don't like phones that aren't preloaded with software that represents services they provide.
Frankly, I was always convinced that arrangements such as VZN's with the NFL required them to have the app on all relevant phones. The NFL is anal like that.
IOW, it's a LOT of different factors coming together keeping ICS off of Galaxy S phones, many of which are problems with how the smartphone industry itself has come to work, and targeting one player while ignoring the bigger picture--though it sure makes life easier for journalists and bloggers--cheapens the whole conversation.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), offers Ice Cream Sandwich on a seven-inch platter

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), offers Ice Cream Sandwich on a seven-inch platter
It looks like Samsung has just taken the wraps off its latest tablet offerings, with the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) -- an ICS-laced follow-up to the company's original seven-incher. Available in both 3G and WiFi varieties, this redux doesn't mark a huge departure from its predecessor, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 LCD. The big changes, however, come in the software department, with the Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 straight out of the box. Other than that, you'll find a three-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA shooter up front, Bluetooth capabilities, and HSPA+ connectivity. No word yet on pricing or availability, but it's worth noting that we first saw this announcement hit Samsung's RSS feed earlier this morning, and it appears to have been pulled since then. It all looks awfully official to us, but when it becomes officially official, we'll be sure to update this post accordingly. Until then, be sure to head past the break for a shot of its backside.

Really, ohhh come on Samsung why are you doing this, this is an inferior model compared to the galaxy 7.7 the only thing it has going for is ICS which the 7.7 doesn't at the moment. This is why Samsung is playing catch-up to Apple even though I deeply believe that the tabs are supperior but churning all these different models for what? Just concentrate on one single model and make it the best device available.

that would explain why samsung doesn´t upgrade the original tab to ICS
7" is good for carrying around, so 3G is a must-have feature.

I know but there is no Tab 3 section
Just curious. I saw that they recently released the Tab 3. What does it have over the Tab 2 besides a home button? Specs seem almost the same.
The main differences between the two are the processor 1.2Ghz and the 1.3 megapixel camera. It also has a nice alluminum bezel, micro usb port and the home button. Other than that not much difference.
Sent from my SM-T210R using XDA Premium HD app
yep, they dropped the funky charger, micro usb port like you said and the entire body is less wide--my screen protector from the tab 2 hangs off on both sides.
looking forward to a new section!!
Tab 3 7.0 rootable yet?
Do people able to root the device yet? Can we use the same method as the tab 2 7 ? Will it brick or anything?
Unless you see a specific root instruction for your device, do not try anything.
No matter how similar tab2 and tab3 are, they are different devices. Just wait for the new section for your device to be created.
Stop bringing your questions here, cuz we can't answer them. We all have tab2. How would we know?
There are probably dedicated threads for nexus 7.2 but nothing for our tab 3 yet. My 8 will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait to root and debloat.

Im curious. Those of you who purchased the Tab3 7 inch. Are you upgrading from another 7 inch tab? What tab is this one replacing?
I am upgrading from the tab 2 7 inch just because they were out of stock on a return. wish I hadn't the tab 3 is no big difference, the stock rom is bloated and yes, the internet gets dropped when idle for me too.
I got the 8". Replacing a 1st gen Kindle Fire - tired of being restricted to the Amazon App Store etc (and rooting of course takes away the instant video and free kindle book prime benefits) . Also have the Galaxy S Blaze phone and very happy with it which led me to the Tab 3. 8" is a really nice size for use as an e-reader.
On both the Tab 3 and my S Blaze, I had trouble keeping WiFi connection when connected to my N router (I run one G and one N b/c I don't have a dual-band that will maintain the N speed and we still have some G only devices). They stay connected to the G (Linksys) with no problem. Never investigated further as it doesn't make enough difference for me to care. Something to think about.

These 3 tablets need their own sub-forum

Hi Guys,
I have the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, and I must admit it is difficult to search for threads specific to this device, mostly because the threads are so generic for what is 3 different models (7" 8" & 10.1"). Even the processors are different, which could get people into trouble.
I've already requested a Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 forum. It makes sense since there is already a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 forum. But I am curious to know member thoughts as to if there really is a need or I am just missing something.

You are not missing one thing here. There really does need to be separate forums for each size of Galaxy Tab 4 series of tablets. I've got the 8" model and I'd really love a forum just for that tablet. Tab 2 and Tab 3 have forums for each size why shouldn't the Tab 4 tablets be any different?

True, but by having only 1 forum the stuff is all over the place. Might as well start off split up so that people don't get confused. It would be consistent with other versions.

hi folks
we understand you want separate forums for the different versions (3,4 etc)
we split the forums based on several factors , not least of which is popularity and interest.
we'll monitor the traffic and flag your request to the admins as things get busier. at that stage a decision will be made as to if we split the forums.

I agree there should be separate threads for each device - I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8". Each device has different specs.
Discussing this request with one of the forum mods for this section. :highfive:
i second the wish for seperate (sub-?) forums!
As far as i understand it the different Tab 4 models have such a different hardware base, dont they?
So topics like firmeware, recoveries and even rooting only work with specific models.. .

Hi,
Mods/Admins... it's time i think.
The concept of only separating these devices based on popularity is completely backwards.
It would have taken an additional 2 minutes to create the sub-forums in the beginning, now it will take days to separate out the relevant posts.
It's disappointing.
