Well, I should have listened to myself. I was going to stick with the stock gtab because of the dangers of modding a new ROM. I even started a thread about keeping my tablet stock.
But stock is so messed up and so hard to work with I decided to go ahead and mod Roebeet's 1.01a version.
It installed the first time. Then I reset the data from the Security Menu. Seemed to be running, but the Tnt side didn't work. Worked from the new Launcher menu and I thought I was home free.
Then it went off and automatically came back on, then the VS birds, the GTab, then birds, then tab.....off button no longer turns off....tried redoing the ROm again....no change....tried again....no change.
Loaded CWM 08 satisfactorily. Tried cleaning the data as suggested in threads. No change. I put 2.20 on another sd card. edited it for SDCARD2. Now I can't get CWM to see the external card to load it.
It did load CWM from SDCARD2!
I'm sure there's something I don't know or have done wrong, but I'm stalemated for the time being. Can't shut the machine off, so just have it idling on AC power.
Can anyone tell me how to get CWM to load from the SDCARD2 so I can see if TnT 2.20 or something else well work?
I'd appreciate suggestions. I knew I should have stuck with stock -- but didn't listen to myself. My bad!

it will take you back to stock and you can start again.
Im pretty sure you just need to repartition the sdcard. Its under advanced in cwm.

CWM .12 (the newest one) actually reads from the microSD. But (and this is a big BUT) it has issues with non-padded boot.img files, which is what TnT Lite, and TnT stock based 1.01a1, and stock itself, use. So it's a double edged sword. I still use .08 because of this issue.
I would also recommend the SD card re-partition. You have cwm already so you are halfway there. Worst case it's nvflash time - I have a post on that process, as well.
Fate Zero,
Thanks for the quick reply. I had that post laying on the desk before I even started. It wouldn't work because the G-Tablet would not read or access SCCARD2 as I mentioned in the first post.

P. S. -- See answer to Roebeet for more info.
Roebeet,
I am back up on TnT 2.20 and your suggestion was a part of what I did.
I really believe something messed up the SDCARD2 operation. After I loaded CWM that way, I couldn't get it to work anymore and so the re-installs keep just trying to load the faulty 1.01a setup.
But here's what I did.
I found the USB option on the Mounts and Storage menu in CWM. I plugged in the cable to mini-USB and my PC. I mounted/turned on the USB and the drive popped up in Explorer on the PC. I could see the old "Update.zip" file and "Recovery" folder on the SDCARD (the ones for 1.01a) and so I erased them. I then copied in the TnT 2.20 files and shut down the links and went back to the G-Tablet and CWM. Still wouldn't work.
So I went to the Advanced menu and re-partitioned the SDCARD -- 2048 and 256 as everyone suggested. Then I just went down the menu in CWM and formatted all the system/cache/sdcard/etc. folders. Then I went by to the USB-PC connection and loaded the ROM files into the newly created and formatted SDCARD folder. Went to the other menu item and told it to apply the zip file -- which it immediately did setting up TnT 2.20.
That rebooted and I went through most of the basic setup, got wireless working, web, etc.
Only problem is I need to get Root Explorer installed to do the Market Fix, and when I went to ES Explorer to go to downloads and install it, it didn't find it in the market. So I will have to figure out a way to install or use something that will let me install the Root Explorer apk I have in the "Downloads" directory on the SDCARD.
I will try to re-think this account and re-write it more accurately when I'm not so bleary-eyed and thick-headed. I have not seen a G-Tablet account of someone rebuilding using the kind of "side-loaded" method I scrabbled together.

Bleary eyed as well (time for sleep) -- I personally use Titanium Backup for the (primary) Market fix. Has worked every time and I've done it a alot, as you might expect. I'm not sure why the file manager won't let you run an apk from the downloads section, but I believe you can download (and run) the TB apk right off their web site.
I'm guessing from the root explorer comment that you are trying the additional Market fix, for even more apps? Maybe you can get it working enough with the primary fix, to get root explorer? I see it in my own Marketplace, although it's not a free app.
Sounds like you are getting there. I replied back to your PM but I guess I saw it a little late
I was hoping you wouldn't run into a bunch of issues when I wrote you back. You will get it. I think you are almost there.. And I have been in the same boat myself a bunch of times. Nothing like thinking you just wrecked your new toy....
You can use the microsd to load the Vanilla with ClockworksMod, but you are still in a boot loop. So, like others stated format the internal SD. Then use your USB mount option to copy over the stock rom and flash. This will get you back up and running.
Reboot, install TNT lite using Clockwork, reboot, skip Google sign in. Install Titanium and clear that google process. Create a Google Account and reboot.
Market should work after that.

Worked flawlessly for me. Thanks!
All,
Thanks to those who replied for help, moral support, suggestions, and whatever.
I have been up on 2.2.0 ever since the malfunction that started all this and now have added my desired software, etc.
Bottom line is that with this experience I now think I know enough to hold things together and do whatever testing I want to do. I hate to have learned it the hard way. And I wish I had known enough about CWM to load it first and preserve the stock hardware on it.
I will say that IMHO the G-Tablet rocks. Yes, the screen is substandard, but I usually hold it in front of me or set it up on a stand anyhow. And straight on it's not bad. I will keep following watching for a screen mod.
Again, thanks all.

BIG THANKS TO 357546 for creating the new kernel!!
v4 Notes:
- Now using 357546's kernel with fixed framebuffer driver capable of RGB565!
- Seems to be fully functional aside from rom manager integration
- Some small cleanups in init scripts and sbin
Detailed Installation:
- Ensure that there are no Huawei rom updates on your SD-Card in the dload folder and unplug the phone from your computer
- Boot to bootloader mode by pressing the up and down volume keys and pressing the power button. This will show a plain violet/purple screen.
- Connect the phone to your computer. In windows it will automatically mount one mass storage device which corresponds to the /cust_backup folder on your phone. If your OS supports EXT3 it will mount multiple devices, look for the one with an images directory and this is the device to use.
- In the images directory rename recovery.img to something else (ie. recovery.bak) and then copy the new recovery image in its place.
- Unmount the mass storage device to ensure all cached writes are completed and then disconnect from the computer. Exit bootloader mode by pulling out the battery.
You now have the clockwork recovery installed. Boot to recovery by holding the volume up and power buttons to turn the phone on.
wow!
hope for a perfect recovery!
Any feedback on this?

Thanks for the support! I've got an issue though, I've applied the recovery but when I press the vol buttons and power I am taken to the purple screen instead of the green recovery menu. V2 worked fine though......not sure if anyone else is having the same issue?

Hey, just a question on that topic - I goto 'Backup Current ROM' and it asks me to install clockmod recovery, and asks to verify what model of phone; obviously u8800 isn't an option on the list.
So.... Aroo? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious
actually you don't need to install rom manager
just follow the instructions in this post

Yep, so just skip using the app entirely. Got it

When you are in recovery after the last step which says so, are you just suppose to take the first option "reboot system now"?
Sorry, completely beginner with these kinds of stuff.
Edit: I guess I should choose backup and restore> backup but when i do so it says "Can't mount SD-card"
I have serious problem by finding the bootloader drivers! The driver update is failing all the time? Do some of you have the driver folder you can give me?
THX!

Feel free to just have a poke around and see what it can do. At the moment the only really useful thing is backup and restore.
I'm not sure why it won't mount the sd. I should mention that it does not use the internal 'sd-card' so you'll get that error if you don't have an external sd-card inserted.

I didn't think that drivers were needed, it should just come up with the mass storage device. From what I remember there are two other devices that windows detects but cannot find drivers for, but don't stress about that as it's not needed. Try it again and see how it goes, it may have mounted but you were stressing about the drivers so missed that it was working.
Dear developers,
I have deleted (by mistake) program Launcer from my Smartphone and now it is not going to load. When I turn on it, there is only symbol of IDEOS. After a minute symbol starting to twinkle, but system not loading.
Could you please tell me how can I return to original firmware?
I hope someone will be able to support me.
If the launcher is the problem, you can just install another, or push again the original from a rom via adb. I assume that the device is rooted(I think you cannot delete a system app if isn´t). If you can connect to pc, then possibly you can install a launcher from huawei' s suite(I´m not sure because I don' t use windows and I haven't try this app) or from a android file manager like QtADB, Android commander or Droid Explorer. You can also install it only with adb via windows command prompt:
http://www.brighthub.com/mobile/google-android/articles/37151.aspx
And maybe, if wifi is enabled and connected, you can just install a launcher from market via pc' s web browser:
https://market.android.com/
The Modaco wiki has a list of original firmwares, but no link to Huawei works anymore. However, it is possible to download the latest China Unicom firmware - which does contain english language support. That should at least get you started.
As a new user I can't post links yet, but it is easy to find if you look for u8800 software, and then switch to Chinese.
Put the extracted directory (dload) on an sd card, in the top/root, put it in the phone and then hold volume down and power on.
Note, this will blow everything away to start from scratch so make sure it is what you want. In addition everything will be in Chinese so you need to be able to navigate to the settings to set it to English.
Better ideas? I am a noob myself so no guarantees...
I have unrooted it before to delete some trial games. And deleted Launcher by mistake.
I can't connect via usb now.
I'm afraid if I upgrade firmware, I have less memory because old one will not be deleted. Or maybe I'm wrong?
No, you're not gonna have less memory.
Did you tried to wipe to factory defaults from recovery mode(power button and vol+)?
You will not have less space because an original firware will format everything from boot partition, system and data... Basically , it will give you original software and status like it came from factory ... Like the other user said, jut find it, extract it , put the dload directory to the root of you sd card and hold volume down and start up the phone ... You will see a progress bar and when it is finished , the phone will restart itself, you will have to wait longer due to the creation of new files and there you go

Install recovery first, then you can connect your device to PC using recovery. If you have friend that have X5, copy the launcher. Else, just install Custom ROM.
The old one will be removed if you install custom ROM. If I'm not wrong.
Recovery.
Unplug USB, turn off your phone, press and hold vol + and -, then press power. Hold those three buttons until it turned on and the screen is purple-pink.
Backup all image data(copy). The rest is in the link.

You are magician. it works now.
hmmm... but there is no launcher application - no workspace available. it doesn't want to load as before. strange.
upgrade don't work too. It is cycle repeating of step1/2.
I just tested and found that you can copy the missing apk from bootloader mode. In this mode(power + vol- + vol+ buttons), when connected to pc via usb cable all partitions of device mounted(at least this happens on linux). So, you can navigate to system partition on /system/app folder and copy there the missing launcher' s apk file. You can find this file on a custom' s rom(or on an official' s rooted rom like modaco's roms) update.zip file. It's on system/app folder. I tested this on linux and I could(not as normal but as root user though) copy or delete files from there.
dancer_69, thank you for your support. At my side when I connect via bootmode, there is only flashdrive is visible.
It's really strange that it is not going to upgrade.
I'm able to apply sdcard:update.zip. So maybe if to put this application inside of the card, it could install. but I don't know how to do it.
I finded apk file and tried to install it but it don't receive file because it hasn't some certificate. ???
I think you have 3 options here.
1. flash an official rom(you put the dload folder of rom's zip file on root of sdcard and boot to bootloader mode. The update starts automatic)
2. Use a linux system(maybe a livecd) to access the other partitions.
3. Try to reroot the device from pc, via superoneclick app(you can find it here), so to have access to system again.
but I haven't access to installation program area. nothing!
I have only ability by pressing (vol + and on) to choose install update.zip from flash card.
so.
1. when I runned new firmware from dload it didn't install. it was cycling at first level (1/2)
2. linux is good idea. but I'm not sure that it's will be profitable. maybe I have turned off access to partitions inside of phone
3. I can't install superoneclick as I'm not able to install any application.
I hope we are closer to some geniously idea. I have bought phone yesterday and we haven't service center in our city. So, I need to buy the other one.
This is not so serious problem, it' s not hardware, it´ software related. And I think you cannot turn off access so easy.
The superoneclick is a pc application. You don't need to install something on device(if I remember well, because I use it once before a long time). You can try it.
And you can try linux too.
I don't think that this is a problem that only service can solve it.
What firmware you tried? Try another one. And better try to find the one that you device has(if you know it)
Thank you for positive opinion.
1. Will try to change firmware as you said. Try 2 more firmware from Huawei.
2. Superoneclick needs approval from phone, today night I wasn't able to run it.
3. I'll try Linux too.

I just managed to root my SCH i400 (first ever rooting of any Android device for me).
I am very surprised by how smoothly it went, despite reports & warnings everywhere about complications (like this one - which should be totally ignored if you're using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 or higher).
For the benefit of n00bs like me who may be confused by multiple sources, resources, versions and problem reports, I am posting a step by step procedure that is confirmed (by me, on Windows XP SP3) to be working smoothly, without a single hitch of complications:
Phone: Make sure setting > applications > unknown sources is checked.
Phone: Make sure phone is in debugging mode.
Phone: Make sure SD card is unmounted!
PC: Make sure Windows USB driver for this phone installed and works
PC: Make sure .NET 3.51 SP1 is installed.
PC: Unzip SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip ==> C:\Program Files\SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse
PC: Double-click SuperOneClick.exe
PC (in SuperOneClick): Make sure you're on the Universal tab (the only other tab is Samsung Captivate, which isn't the i400).
PC (in SuperOneClick): Now click the root button and wait for the process to complete.
PC (in SuperOneClick): "BusyBox not found. Would you like to install it?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Root install has completed! Would you like to run a test?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Your device has been rooted! Would you like to donate now?"
Exit SuperOneClick, unplug phone from USB, power down phone, power on phone. -- this step might not be mandatory, I just did it to be on the safe side.
Enjoy!
Great job on this tut.

Froyo is so nice... Here's how...
Hey guys... new poster here.
Just got a (Gently used) Samsung Continuum for free from Verizon after the power button on my G Droid 1 broke.
Anyways, after rcving it and realizing that it would only support Android 2.1 - I was slightly upset.
My D1 was rooted and modded to the max many times over with just about every ROM you can get.
So after reading up about IMNUTS leaking the Froyo download for the Continuum, my hopes were raised.
It is now debinged, debloated, lightening quick and amazing!
There may not be ROMS out there yet - but I truly hope some of you geniuses decide to make a few.
Just wanted to say thanks and encourage you to do some research before rooting it.
Here's what worked for me.
Odin 1.3
Continuum PIT.pit file
froyo_modem.tar.md5
cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar
cyan Clockwork Mod Recovery (BLUE, not yellow) (update.zip file, which is placed on the root of your SD card - renamed to update.zip)
stock_deodexed_ec03.zip (ROM)
(Place all of these files on your Desktop for easy access)
How to do it...
1. Connect your phone to your computer and Mount it.
2. Place the cyan CWM Recovery zip file to your SD card. (rename it to update.zip & do not put it in any folders. Just drag the file to your SD card - whatever drive it is listed as. Mine is my Removeable F
3. Make a new folder on your SD card. Name it whatever you want. (Mine is named "Froyo") Place the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file in the folder on your SD card.
4. Open Odin 1.3 on your PC.
5. While your phone is off... hold the down volume button and connect it to your computer via USB. The yellow triangle will appear and it will say "Downloading". (Some people say to take the battery out, but my Odin program would not recognize my phone without the battery. Whichever works for you is fine.)
6. In Odin - Click the PIT file button. Load the Continuum.Pit.pit file into the file field. (Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
7. In Odin - Click the PDA button. Load the froyo_modem.tar.md5 file into the file field. (same as #6. Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
8. Click Start in Odin.
It should think for a minute, then say resetting, then say PASS
Then your phone will probably turn back on - turn it off again and reconnect it to your PC in download mode as stated in #5 above.
9. In Odin - Click the PDA button again. Load the cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar file as you did in #'s 6 and 7 above.
10. Click Start again in Odin... same as before. (thinking, resetting and PASS)
Your phone will turn on again.
11. Disconnect your phone from the computer & turn it off.
12. Hold both Volume buttons and turn it on. It will boot into the Samsung Recovery mode.
13. Use your Volume buttons to go down to highlight "apply update.zip" Then find the place where your normal Menu softkey would be and push it. The phone should then reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery. It will be orangish.
14. In CWM, use the Volume buttons to highlight Backup/ Restore. Use the Power Button to choose it. Then at the next field, highlight Backup and make a backup.
15. After is makes the backup, press where the softkey Back button should be to go back to the original screen. From there, do a Wipe Data/ Factory reset. Do not forget to do this part.
16. Once it does the Data Wipe - go back to the main menu and and highlight & select the "zip from SD card" choice. Find your "Froyo" folder (of whatever you named it) and apply the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file.
17. After that, go back to the main menu again and reboot your phone.
It may take a while, but your phone should restart in Froyo.
Of course, you have to re-sign in to your Google network...
Thanks so much guys for all the posts. Without them, is nowhere near as cool.
Hanging at Step #5, Now what?
Thank you for sharing. Wish I could say it went as smoothly for me with my SCH-I400 Continuum... I'm still working on it! I followed recommendations of several different developers/rooters. I've installed .Net Framework 4.0 and the SDK developers kit (who knows, maybe I'll start a new hobby...), and now when I run Superoneclick it hangs at step #5 with this message:
link_image[1728]: 3252 could not load needed library 'libdiskconfig.so' for './zergRush' (load_library[1058]: Library 'libdiskconfig.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
I have rebooted the computer and the phone, unmounted the SD card, settings to allow unknown sources, and turned on USB debugging. I'm not sure why the config file can't be found, and I don't know where to get it...
Do I need to reinstall the SDK? Or install the additional Java developers software? Or am I over-complicating this whole thing?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated...

Perhaps the easiest way is to flash a rooted ROM through Odin (or Heimdall)... Especially if you don't use Windows. This is how I did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203597
Two topics in one thread?
Hmmm... seems we have 2 things happening hear. 1: Rooting a Samsung Continuum, and 2: Flashing a ROM...
My concern is the "hang" at step five for Rooting my Continuum SCH-I400... Cant use a ROM until the dang thing is rooted, and can't seem to figure out the hang.
Tried Z4 root from the phone rather than through the PC and it hung indefinitely... Maybe there's a related issue, and I don't care if it's Superoneclick or Z4 that gets the job done.
Has anyone gotten past the same issue?

That's where you are over complicating. You don't actually have to root BEFORE you flash a new rom, if the rom is 'prerooted'. I've never rooted this thing via s1c or z4. I simply flashed the kernels via odin and flashed the rom in cwm.

That's fine Txwolf, but still doesn't address the issue... Or the original reason for this thread - Rooting - which is is essential for the programs I am going to run, and that is what I have been asking about...

The issue seems to be that you just have to use that little search box a little better via xda or your web browser and find more information the root program your trying to use.
When you give up on that you can take txwolf1980 's advice
PS hang on step 5 in OP? Or in 3rd post? That would be getting into dl mode lol

I spent 6 hours last night troubleshooting, researching, digging deep, and "using that little search box." Seems to me You guys need to "just read the thread." It's about rooting your phone, period. If a forum is out there, I've probably read it. I'm using superoneclick to do it. SDK is installed. Net framework is installed. My error message frome SOC is above. When I am finally rooted, THEN I will install several programs - starting with a wifi tether.
I see you have the same phone as I do. Is it rooted with a one-click method? I also tried Z4root and didn't like it.

well i did read the thread...
ive been out of town for a week and finally back on my pc... i would love to help you yet more info is needed.
you are running dl17 stock 2.1 correct?
what OS is your pc running?
and yes i have same phone as you. i have used superone click on ec03 build once.
just for root. but then flashed a deodexed rom to use custom mods and apps.
and since have been flashing rooted kernels, imnuts and adrynalynne have released most all of them.
there are a few ways to root the device, best bet is, as always is go to IRC.
clarity and patience are key, we all got to practice both
I rooted EC09 with soc no problem. If I send someone the EC09 could they extract the apks and send them to me? I deleted some sys apps for the ticker and rss feeds and need them back now to use it.

Unzip factory.rfs of ec09 to grab missing apks and put them on sdcard and install from there.

FYI, my Windows Defender threat scanner just reported this SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip file as Exploit:AndroidOS/CVE-2011-1823, more specifically pointing at a file named Exploits/GingerBreak in that ZIP file.
I am going to delete this ZIP file as I no longer need it, but I got curious: Any idea what this means?

It means it'll root your phone. Some applications could try to do this without permission and do shady things with your phone. Nothing to worry about if your doing it on purpose.

Im assuming by now everyone is on EG04 Gingerbread?
Bought an Axon 7 from China 1.5 years ago. Very satisfied with it, but only got 2 OTA. Last one a couple of months ago. I tried in vain to identify the type. It is marked A2017 on backside. Buildnumber is ZTE_A2017CTJMV1.0.0B04. Is it possible to upgrade manually to Nougat?

That is really weird. But of course it is possible
Look, there are three ways to do this. You have the official method, which involves downloading the OTA yourself from the support page, unzipping it, putting it on the internal storage or SD and going to Updates to apply it. This one might fail. Then there's the TWRP way, but you need to unlock the bootloader. And then there's the MiFlash way, where you don't need unlocked bootloader and it will not fail, but it's a little bit of an extreme...
For now, do this:
http://devicedownload.zte.com.cn/support/product/201606031040/sd/20171009174830988.zip
Download that file and unzip it. There will be a file called "update.zip" and maybe a pdf inside. Take the update.zip and put it in the root of the internal storage. Then go to settings -> Updates, and it should detect it. Install it
Thank You
Thanks,
Downloaded and extracted the update.zip file. Put in the root of SD. Tried the system update. Got answer "Software is up to date" But nothing happens.

Try putting on the internal storage (not the SD card). If it still does not appear, then try updating through the stock recovery. That should work.
EDIT: just to be clear, you did not extract the contents of the update.zip, did you? You need to put the actual update.zip on the internal storage (you can try on the external sd card). As mentioned by choose an username, check the update.zip you downloaded. It it contains another update.zip, that is the file you need. You may have already done this, but I have seen others still get it wrong...
EDIT 2: that being said, your current version number seems strange. I wonder if that is the problem. Maybe the version you are trying to install is not compatible and therefore not seen by the system.

That's the point. I wanted to see if the normal update could go normally or not. Next step is MiFlash
At least we know it's an A2017...

You can still try first through stock recovery.
Right...

The file "update.zip" contains 29 sub files, none of them was named update.zip.
No I did not unzip it.
This time I put the "update.zip" in the root of the phone folder. But nothing happened when I run the Settings»update.
How do I post screen shots in this forum?

Okay. Put it in the SD card. Then turn the phone off.
After it is completely off, hold Volume Up + power until the zte screen appears. You should get into the stock recovery.
Now, the stock recovery will most probably be in chinese, but you have to use an option that says 'sd' between a bunch of chinese stuff. It's easy to spot. Scroll to that option with the volume keys and select it with Power. The contents of the SD card will appear. Select the update.zip and see if it works or not.

Nothing. If you use MiFlash they will get erased, but not this way.
Think about it this way; doing this from the Updates section actually issues a command that gets you into the recovery to flash the file. So basically you skip the Updates part.
Please tell me if the recovery is in chinese later

Also a small FYI:
-Contacts are backed up on your Google account, and even if you don't have one you can export all of your contacts to a .vcf file, then back it up, and then import it once you finish
-Apps... Just download them again. You can backup the 'Android' folder that's on your internal storage, most games save their data there.
-Bank ID? Isn't that just a log in?
I format my zte axon 7 A2017G and now am stock on WiFi(when ever I tap next it will load then return to WiFi) and it seems the phone is locked by zte please how do I unlock it
