Well, I should have listened to myself. I was going to stick with the stock gtab because of the dangers of modding a new ROM. I even started a thread about keeping my tablet stock.
But stock is so messed up and so hard to work with I decided to go ahead and mod Roebeet's 1.01a version.
It installed the first time. Then I reset the data from the Security Menu. Seemed to be running, but the Tnt side didn't work. Worked from the new Launcher menu and I thought I was home free.
Then it went off and automatically came back on, then the VS birds, the GTab, then birds, then tab.....off button no longer turns off....tried redoing the ROm again....no change....tried again....no change.
Loaded CWM 08 satisfactorily. Tried cleaning the data as suggested in threads. No change. I put 2.20 on another sd card. edited it for SDCARD2. Now I can't get CWM to see the external card to load it.
It did load CWM from SDCARD2!
I'm sure there's something I don't know or have done wrong, but I'm stalemated for the time being. Can't shut the machine off, so just have it idling on AC power.
Can anyone tell me how to get CWM to load from the SDCARD2 so I can see if TnT 2.20 or something else well work?
I'd appreciate suggestions. I knew I should have stuck with stock -- but didn't listen to myself. My bad!

it will take you back to stock and you can start again.
Im pretty sure you just need to repartition the sdcard. Its under advanced in cwm.

CWM .12 (the newest one) actually reads from the microSD. But (and this is a big BUT) it has issues with non-padded boot.img files, which is what TnT Lite, and TnT stock based 1.01a1, and stock itself, use. So it's a double edged sword. I still use .08 because of this issue.
I would also recommend the SD card re-partition. You have cwm already so you are halfway there. Worst case it's nvflash time - I have a post on that process, as well.
Fate Zero,
Thanks for the quick reply. I had that post laying on the desk before I even started. It wouldn't work because the G-Tablet would not read or access SCCARD2 as I mentioned in the first post.

It wasn't that simple, but your suggestion was part of the solution!!! Thanks!!!

P. S. -- See answer to Roebeet for more info.
Roebeet,
I am back up on TnT 2.20 and your suggestion was a part of what I did.
I really believe something messed up the SDCARD2 operation. After I loaded CWM that way, I couldn't get it to work anymore and so the re-installs keep just trying to load the faulty 1.01a setup.
But here's what I did.
I found the USB option on the Mounts and Storage menu in CWM. I plugged in the cable to mini-USB and my PC. I mounted/turned on the USB and the drive popped up in Explorer on the PC. I could see the old "Update.zip" file and "Recovery" folder on the SDCARD (the ones for 1.01a) and so I erased them. I then copied in the TnT 2.20 files and shut down the links and went back to the G-Tablet and CWM. Still wouldn't work.
So I went to the Advanced menu and re-partitioned the SDCARD -- 2048 and 256 as everyone suggested. Then I just went down the menu in CWM and formatted all the system/cache/sdcard/etc. folders. Then I went by to the USB-PC connection and loaded the ROM files into the newly created and formatted SDCARD folder. Went to the other menu item and told it to apply the zip file -- which it immediately did setting up TnT 2.20.
That rebooted and I went through most of the basic setup, got wireless working, web, etc.
Only problem is I need to get Root Explorer installed to do the Market Fix, and when I went to ES Explorer to go to downloads and install it, it didn't find it in the market. So I will have to figure out a way to install or use something that will let me install the Root Explorer apk I have in the "Downloads" directory on the SDCARD.
I will try to re-think this account and re-write it more accurately when I'm not so bleary-eyed and thick-headed. I have not seen a G-Tablet account of someone rebuilding using the kind of "side-loaded" method I scrabbled together.

Bleary eyed as well (time for sleep) -- I personally use Titanium Backup for the (primary) Market fix. Has worked every time and I've done it a alot, as you might expect. I'm not sure why the file manager won't let you run an apk from the downloads section, but I believe you can download (and run) the TB apk right off their web site.
I'm guessing from the root explorer comment that you are trying the additional Market fix, for even more apps? Maybe you can get it working enough with the primary fix, to get root explorer? I see it in my own Marketplace, although it's not a free app.
Sounds like you are getting there. I replied back to your PM but I guess I saw it a little late
I was hoping you wouldn't run into a bunch of issues when I wrote you back. You will get it. I think you are almost there.. And I have been in the same boat myself a bunch of times. Nothing like thinking you just wrecked your new toy....
You can use the microsd to load the Vanilla with ClockworksMod, but you are still in a boot loop. So, like others stated format the internal SD. Then use your USB mount option to copy over the stock rom and flash. This will get you back up and running.
Reboot, install TNT lite using Clockwork, reboot, skip Google sign in. Install Titanium and clear that google process. Create a Google Account and reboot.
Market should work after that.

Worked flawlessly for me. Thanks!
All,
Thanks to those who replied for help, moral support, suggestions, and whatever.
I have been up on 2.2.0 ever since the malfunction that started all this and now have added my desired software, etc.
Bottom line is that with this experience I now think I know enough to hold things together and do whatever testing I want to do. I hate to have learned it the hard way. And I wish I had known enough about CWM to load it first and preserve the stock hardware on it.
I will say that IMHO the G-Tablet rocks. Yes, the screen is substandard, but I usually hold it in front of me or set it up on a stand anyhow. And straight on it's not bad. I will keep following watching for a screen mod.
Again, thanks all.

1st- i download the file didn't unzip it then i sent it to the SD card and rename it "update.zip".
2nd- i did the factory wipe/reset then i select to wipe all data
3rd- i select update.zip but i notice an message saying( E. can't read from SD card, or something like that). i dont know if that is apart of the mod or what.
4th- when it is finish then i select reboot option and when it is done rebooting i get nothing new. can you help me out are do you know something that i might be doing wrong. i also did do the 1.42 patch aswell didn't work. are is there any other newer way to do it are what. Even if you can write step by step on how to do it properly.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
Did your a7 have a sdcard problem before the attempt ?
And even tho it sed it can't read sdcard, did it proceed to install anyway ?
yes it did go ahead with the installation, but it is during the installation process where i saw something about can't read error, i jus got it yesterday then i did the new update from elocity website. then i tried al,ost all of dexter's mod
these are the exat message i got was (E:can't open/usb/update.zip)
(E:Can't mount USB:update.zip)
then underneath that it say (Finding update package)
then it say (Wait for 5 second)
(Installation time out)
(installation aborted)
(Formatting MISC)
these are all the thing it say during installation
Does your a7 read, mount and unmount the sdcard stock?
What is the path to the update.zip?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to get on the same page
Sent from my Mynized EVo 4G
I'm having just about the same problem. Will be interested to hear any helpful suggestions. At this point, the only thing that is working is to do the factory reset and use the basic version again. I keep getting a message that "update.zip" (although I named it "Update.zip") is a bad file. I also did not get "apply sdcard:update.zip" as a menu option, only "apply:update.zip", which when clicked did read the sd card, then gave the bad file message.
update
Lemme clarify first then update. I bought the A7 in February and loaded the most current Dexter mod at that time. It's been running beautifully until this week. Over a period of days, the A7 started acting up until it was no longer usable at all. First, the BlueTooth cut out, then the WiFi, then it just got stuck and was repeatedly lighting up the Elocity logo, but never fully booting up.
Elocity support said to do the Factory reset, which I did and it was back to baseline again. Trying to install the latest version of Dexter is where my problem started. (end of history)
So, now the update for this evening: I tried every version of Dexter's mods and got the "bad" file message each time, even after downloading them again to be sure I wasn't using a corrupted copy. However, my A7 will wipe, then update with Elocity Firmware 2.0134 and read it just fine on the exact same SD card when renamed "Update.zip".
So, now I have a very frustrated boy with autism who can't do his Google Voice search anymore and the Android Marketplace doesn't let me download the apps I already bought for him. We're back to where we were when it arrived out of the box in February, but unable to restore what we had.
I have to think there's a conflict between Dexter's Mods and the new firmware, even after one wipes everything. I even tweeted Dexter (and I don't *do* Twitter!) to see if he could respond for help and am waiting for a response.
Can someone please help? Thanks!!
Sounds like your having issues with the files you download, I have gotten in the habit of not renaming the update file to just that until its on the usb card. Seen to many messages like yours if I saved one update over a prior with the same name. Try download 1.41 and 1.42 leave their names the way they are and save them to folder on your computer. Copy them bother to sd-card leaving names the same still. once both are there rename 1.41 to Update. Remove card from pc put in tablet. Use the recovery system method (press then hold power button method) do wipe, clear cache, the use update option. If this is successful which it should be delete the 1.41 file on card that you renamed to Update, this can be done on tablet or computer. Once that file is gone rename the 1.42 to Update and once again flash from recovery system.
Hope that solves your issue
Make it a habit to not save an update over top of another, though it seems like it would keep you from having to rename but for me it always seemed to corrupt the file.
thanks! I'll give that a try. I notice you said "PC", but I have a Mac ... could that be part of the issue ... downloading to Mac, then moving the file to SD or USB? (could be a stupid question, but if I don't ask, that makes me even more ignorant)

Do you end up with a folder or a zip file? Safari has a bad habit of extracting zips when it downloads them. Search my posts, there is a long ranting one that covers issues with both PC and Mac.
they're zipped ... I use Firefox 4.0, when the option comes up at download, I always click "save", not "open". Thanks, though.
well, problem solved. I ran Bestial's gapps patch over top of the new eLocity firmware and i have full functionality again. very happy mom here! now to reload all those apps for my boy! =D
Wow, I'm glad you found a solution...I have been following the thread and was getting worried.
I had the same problem after downloading the newest elocity update and then trying dexter's mod. I found out my problem is that I renamed the file "update.zip". If you just rename the file to" update" then it loaded fine. Not totally sure why this worked and maybe it was just my case, but maybe it will help some of you out!

No. Your problem was that you were using a windows machine and your file extensions were hidden (I am psychic, but don't worry, I won't tell anyone your pin number). She is using a Mac, no hidden file extensions.
How do you get to the gapps patch? I'm really having trouble getting any updates on my a7. seems like its not taking anything off the sdcard. i brought a new card and I'm still having the same issue.

Hi.
I'm running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.1, and I've observed several bugs. I need to know if the bugs are the fault of the ROM (and thus something I should take up with the ACS developers) or if they're my fault due to something I'm doing wrong.
1) I use folders on my LauncherPro* homescreens to organize apps. For this example, I'll use my Games folder. In it, all the games except 1 are installed onto my microSD card. After I drag the icons to the folder the first time, they are fine. However, after a reboot, the icons of the apps installed to my microSD card that are in folders change to the generic Android green/white icon. The apps still load properly, and the icons appear fine in the App drawer.
*LauncherPro is included as the only homescreen in this ROM.
2) I'm having an odd issue with Plants vs. Zombies. It loads to the main screen, and I can manage the player names, but after I click to start the adventure, it locks up with the Adventure button depressed. The main screen music also dies. No FC/wait dialog appears. I have to press the Home button to get out of it. PvZ is unplayable in this condition. Rebooting does not help, nor does formatting /cache or Dalvik-cache in custom recovery.
3) JuiceDefender Ultimate tells me in the log that it cannot toggle 2G/3G data, and that this is likely to be a kernel issue. As far as I know, this reduces the effectiveness of JD.
4) In ClockwodMod Recovery 3.0.0.6, I cannot mount my microSD card for the PC to read/write it. I get "E:Unable to open ums lunfile (no such file or directory)". I've seen posts that indicate this is a bug that was corrected in later versions, but I don't know if the custom ROM I am running is compatible with later versions,or where to find later versions. EDIT: I found CWM 3.0.2.5, and flashed it. It still reports the same error when attempting mount my microSD card for my PC to work with.
5) When I connect the phone's cable to my PC and get the the "Charging/Mass Storage/Tethered" popup and click Mass Storage, and then click "Turn On" at the next screen, it appears to work fine, except that my PC shows no new removable media drives. Sometimes, even though I touched the "Turn On" button, nothing happens. The button does not turn into a spinning wait indicator, nothing.
6) I found a post (that I've since lost track of) that purported to provide instructions to see if journaling was enabled. (I'm already formatted as EXT4). The instructions errored out, apparently because I have the wrong version of tune2fs. I'm not sure how to copy the correct version over, so I flashed the "Journaling On" zip shortly after I re-flashed this ROM. Does EXT4 and journaling stick between ROM re-flashes?

OK can only answer some of these. I heard Launcher Pro can take a little while to read icons from the sd card. You may want to download and try Zeam launcher.
The Plants v Zombies may be a result of overclocking/undervolting. Try it again with no undervolting and your speed set to 1Ghz max and 200 Mhz min.
Not sure why you are mounting the sd card in clockwork. Sounds like either your cable is flaky or you need to reinstall the Samsung drivers to connect your USB. Also try different USB ports and turn USB debugging on. I had to reinstall the drivers for each port on my laptop as it would only recognize my phone in one of them originally.
No, journaling does not carry through other ROM flashes. If you flash a no-journaling ROM, you will have no journal unless you turn it back on. Some can be turned on simply be making a nand backup then immediately restoring it. Others work fine with the journal on flash. And some are more special and need a specific script like Bonsai.
Hope some of this helps.

1) you can get a different launcher from the market. I've never had any luck with pushing apps to sd.
2) that's a issue with the game. Try changing your max and min cpu.clocks. If you uved you may be to low.
3)jd is a pos and you don't need it. I go on average of 12-16hrs a day with 3+ hours of screen on. And a synce interval of every hour
4) no versions of cwm on the epic has allowed you to mount your sd to pc for the epic. Cwm was ported to the epic and not created by koush him self so some things are broken.
5) try a different cable and usb ports. This is a known problem even while on a stock rom
6) yes it sticks unless the rom your flashing changes it.

I'm knee deep on working on sfr1.2
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
hi
once upon a time I tried to get cm7 running on nook but quit after 1.2 came out. now when I was on cm7 I think I messed something up in the Rom manager. at first I couldn't boot, it got stuck at the N screen. then I tried the dummies guide for fixing my nook wont boot and that got the nook to boot but now my nook has no storage. I thing the problem it that when I tried to use the guide mentioned above I could format the system but not the data. now I don't know how to fix it.
Seems like the only way to get it working would be from a clean slate - might need to blow away the partitions and redo them.
Sounds like a similar issue to what winterps is going through in another thread. I have posted some ideas for fixing this. I too think that it is a partition issue and that following Dean Gibson's steps quoted in Post# 5 there will get you back to right.
I would suggest reading through the referenced posts as well chad11 and see if there is anything there that works for you. I have had very good experience with both installing CM7 on the EMMC and a uSD.
okay, I read through the other thread and I have some questions. for starters I cant download the 1.2 reparation install package. also do I write both things to the SD card or just copy. finally, I really don't see that much semblance between our problems. do you really think it will work?
P.S. the reparations install packages, do they just change the storage or the whole operating system?
Here is Dean Gibson's 1.2 ROM partition download you are looking for, his link wasn't working for me either...I'll have to let him know
repartition5GBdata-v1.zip
MD5: b4018fe2c741f76b04fb4f7eca72f198
No, you need to prepare your uSD with ClockWorkMod. Follow steps 1 and 2 of this guide.
When you uSD is set up with ClockWorkMod, eject the uSD and then re-insert into the computer
Now you want to copy repartition5GBdata-v1.zip and reformatData-v1.zip onto the uSD.
Put the uSD into your NC and turn it on. When you boot into CWM you want to choose the option to "install .zip from sd card." choose the repartition5GBdata-v1.zip file first. When it is done, if it doesn't already do it for you, you want to select reboot. Once you are back into CWM, you will want to go back into "install .zip from sd card," and choose the reformatData-v1.zip file.
After that is done, you should be able to restore the 1.2 stock ROM and be good to go. Just copy it onto the uSD like above and install it the same way. Or, you could do so with the latest nightly of CM7.
Oh, and I meant that yours was similar in that I believe these are both issues related to fubar'd partitions...
okay I think I understand, except for how to restore the 1.2 stock ROM. where do I get it from, b&n website?

A simple google search for "b&n 1.2 update" will take you to where you need to go. I would post a direct link, but i havent yet figured out how to copy and paste in firefox mobile.
thanks but I already have 1.2. not on my nook but I downloaded it from b&n website, so would I be able to use that
hey guys, I just tried it and the reparation file wouldn't install. It says installation aborted. also the file isn't named reparation-v1.zip it is called nookcolor.zip
I try to help but I can't follow what you post.
What exactly do you want to do with your NC?
Reformat? Restore to stock? Reinstall CM?
sorry I do tend to stray a little. What I want to do is restore to stock. I don't want to have it rooted, have cm7, anything. I just want it back to the way it was.
hey cdaters, your link you gave me for the 1.2 worked but it wont install and it is called nookcolor.zip not reparation5G-v1.zip

Sorry about that, I don't know where that nookcolor.zip file is coming from. Try this link:
repartition5GBdata-v1.zip

This is the same file from Dean Gibson's partition guide.

i actually ended up installing 1.2 and it worked really well (after manual nooter install) until the first reboot when all the old issues started up again (status bar disappears, no market, android.process force closes, can't add a google account, boot loops, freezes, etc)
while a nub wrt android i did have successful installations at various times of hc, phiremod, froyo, and cm7 with dalingren oc kernels from feb to mid june
obviously i'm doing something wrong.....but what? thx

So are you trying to go back to stock, or you looking to achieve a dual-boot (stock on the device, CM7 on a uSD)?
These are the steps that I would use to get back to stock, and then set myself up with CM7:
Note: I will be pulling information from various contributors and they too are pulling from various contributors, I'll cite my references at the end and include my thanks and credits there as well.
ALWAYS check the md5 hash for the files you are downloading to make sure you don't have corrupted files. This is a great windows utility to do that here.
The Fine Print: I guess I should also add that I offer no guarantee or warranty and will not be held liable if this shouldn't work for you, etc. etc. (but we all know that coming into this right?)
If you first need to re-partition and re-format your NC:
Download 1gb CWM 3.2.0.1 (ClockworkMod Recovery) sdcard image from here. (md5: 1319739d33642ed860e8044c3d55aa56).
Extract the clockworkmod .img from the zip file (if you can't open the file use 7zip) and burn it to uSD using win32diskimager (free) or winimage (shareware). These apps will need to be "run as administrator." If you're not sure how to do this see step 3 here. *** Some internal laptop/desktop readers will not work to do this, you may need an external USB reader if you run into problems. ***
While that's burning:
Download stock 1.2 ROM from here. (md5: ce75830e98b9dcad5989490f22faee62)
Download B&N v1.2 "new" 5+GB "/data", 1GB "/media" partitioning install package: Download (md5: b4018fe2c741f76b04fb4f7eca72f198)
Also download the following format install package: Download (md5: 78be3e8d0a1d8355be0509948aa5b476)
Once your uSD card is done being imaged with CWM, copy all those files to the sdcard - DO NOT unzip them
Power off your nook. Put your uSD card in and power on. The nook will boot from the uSD into ClockworkMod Recovery. Navigate in CWM using the vol up/down keys, "n" button to accept, power button to go back.
Navigate to "install zip from sdcard" and press "n" to enter a sub-menu. Then select "choose zip from sdcard".
Install the repartition package from the SDcard, to repartition /data (0p6), /cache (0p7), and /media (0p8).
Reboot! Once that is done, if the NC doesn't reboot and/or you are not dumped back at the main CWM screen, tap the power button until you see the "reboot system now" option and select this to reboot the NC back into CWM.
Now using steps 7 & 8 again, install the reformat package from the uSD, to reformat (and clear) /data (0p6), /cache (0p7), and /media (0p8).
Reboot! Once that is done, if the NC doesn't reboot and/or you are not dumped back at the main CWM screen, tap the power button until you see the "reboot system now" option and select this to reboot the NC back into CWM.
Now using steps 7 & 8 again, install the stock 1.2 ROM.
Once you've flashed the files; in the CWM main menu select "wipe data/factory reset"
Go back to the main menu, remove the uSD and then press reboot system.
At this point, you have a few options:
Stay with [gasp!] your stock NC
You can put CM7 on your NC's EMMC (replace B&N ROM entirely) using this guide.
Or, my prefered set up - keep stock ROM on device and run CM7 off uSD in a dual-boot scenario using this guide.

So you are saying that after the repartition and reboot phase of these steps, your NC is booting into the stock ROM?
I would not expect that as the partition map should be different. But, if that is the case then I would agree that you should then power off, then back on to boot back into CWM for the format phase of these steps, then proceed from there.

So what did you finally end up doing that fixed it?
I just got my NC and decided to give this a try instead of buying a N2A card.
Android Version 2.3.7
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Mod Version CyanogenMod-7.1.0-encore
build Number GWK74
ClockworkMod 3.2.0.1
When I initially booted off the memory card everything was smooth until gapp. It loaded but when it came to selecting the apps when I clicked on one it flashed and just continued to set up. It didn't let me select any. No big deal because it worked fine.
I had force close issues so I ran Fix Permissions through ROM Manager and this seemed to help except for a few apps.
I used LCDDensity and changed that to 161 with Kill All which cleared up my force close issues on Words With Friends and Tweetcaster.
I get on today and notice videos are now missing from the market main screen and apps that I had yet to install are now no longer compatible with my device. They were last night but I was picking and choosing what I wanted on here. Why the sudden change? I rebooted the device just a few minutes ago and now the sudden change.
I also read about clearing davlik cache but how do you do this? I am not a programmer or developer so I have no clue. I have spent hours reading here everyday since Christmas and my mind is melting. I tried rebooting into recovery but I do not get the option to do anything. The penguin appears and a few things scroll down the screen and it reboots. I tried using the emulator and that won't work either unless I am typing something in wrong.
Are there any other tweaks or things I need to do to keep things stable and running smoothly? Are their certain things I need to clear regularly i.e. davlik cache, application cache or data?
I appreciate all the hard work and the time everyone puts into this. Please help. Like I said I need kindergarten instructions. Thank you.
First off, I've never had much success running from uSD. Even as far back as NookieFroyo. Once I made the move to running from eMMC most of my issues disappeared.
Davlik can be wiped from the Advanced selection when you boot to CWM as can Fix Permissions.
If you are going to run from SD then it is highly advisable to use a Sandisk Class 2 or 4 card. The brand does make a difference and others have found that other makes lead to slow downs and instabilities.
I would also recommend starting again following the veryGreen SD install method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
and using the MiRaGe KANG ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873
This is CM7 but with the latest improvements including kernel adding to stability and performance.
Also, never use Windows to format your uSD. The format utility in Windows can (and does) screw up the format. Use this freebie. Has always worked well for me. You would be surprised how many problems that involve uSDs are traced back to a bad format.
I used LCDDensity and changed that to 161

Setting to 161, you are asking for more issue.
Suggestion: set it back to 160.

I read that this was recommended and when I do it my apps that have issues work and they work well. No more force close issues.
Thanks for the advice guys. Like I said I have no experience with any of this. I am learning though and love to tinker with things and figure out how they work.

To update the ROM on an SD card install power down, remove card then you put the card back onto the PC and copy the new ROM zip onto it but named as update-cm-*.zip. Put the card back in the Nook and power up with N button pressed until you see the screen flash. Choose reboot recovery and the new zip will be installed.
However, if you are doing a major ROM switch and haven't invested too much time installing apps etc yet then I would recommend just doing the VeryGreen install from the beginning to get a clean install.
I did a clean install and so far things are working well. Base off of the veryGreen install are there any "must have" settings or tweaks I need to do to keep things smooth? Any nook or CM7 apps you guys would recommend. I know it has been answered 50,000 times but I am losing sleep reading the forums here.
Thanks again for the help and your patience.
There are so many of apps that suitable for each individual personality, for me:
+ news: usatoday, bbc
+ sport: Y!spectacular, mobile sport
+ movie: flixter, moviefone
+ picture viewing: quickpic (must have)
+ time: clocksync (must have)
+ file navigate: file expert (must have), astro file manager
+ player: rockplayer
+ ebook: Mantano (recommended)
+ weather: fancy widget
+ web browser: Opera (like better), dophin HD
+ calculator: TI-83/86 emulators, also mortgage cal. and real science cal.
+ game: none
+ sex pos.: forget the name
+ few others that occasionally use.
Every one gets their own favorite apps to suit their interests. I personally go for ES file explorer for general file navigation and accessing my computers' shares wirelessly, Dolphin HD browser for the gesture navigation, moboplayer for playing media, and QuickPic for photo viewing.
But don't forget Nook Tweaks. This allows you to tweak the kernel and benefit from some of the good things in there that distinguish the Dalingrin CM7 kernel. Like overclocking to get a really good boost in performance (most people go for 1200MHz max for stability), undervolting to stretch the battery a bit, audio settings to make the stock feeble audio considerably louder (set DAC boost about 50%), and USB hosting if you want to connect USB peripherals.

Really? You are sure it's CWM 3.2.0.1? When you boot to recovery you don't get a Menu? If not, methinks your CWM is hosed. Have to say I do not ever recall not getting a CWM Menu. Nor can I call up seeing a "penguin"?
Have to say also ROM Manager is quirky at best. Used it a long time ago and found that it whacked my NC. Uninstalled and never used again. Found it was incompatible with other devices.
You might consider a new uSD install.

I'm not using SD CM7 currently myself but my recollection when I did is that the recovery is not a full clockwork but a stripped down one just designed to install update zips. As such you don't get the full menu and operation from ROM manager isn't going to work properly.

So I have done a clean install of veryGreen exactly as posted except that I have the latest stable instead of a nightly. So do I simply download that ROM file and do as you stated for MiRaGe Kang? Just asking because on that link there is a bunch of different things listed and I get kind of lost. All I need is the ROM file and follow what you said quoted above?
Thanks again.
I tried renaming the file but it says the name cannot contain * so what am I doing wrong. Searched the forums and can't find the answer.

The * is just shorthand for any name. You can't include * in the actual name as it is a wildcard character that matches any part of a name. The important part is that the new name starts with update-cm- so you can just put that on the front of the MiRaGe zip (which is all you need).
Thank you. I figured it out kind of. I downloaded that ROM and followed the instructions and rooted my nook which I did not want to do. I wanted to dual boot off the memory card. It is all a learning experience.
I did a factory restore and all was good again. Started fresh and was going for a new verygreen install and my memory card slot no longer locks the card in. I am so thankful I had completed the factory reinstall. My wife went to B&N today and exchanged it for me with no issue.
So for now I think I will stick to the verygreen install and tweak it to my liking until something stable for ICS comes about.
Thanks for your patience and help. Some really good people here helping out.
Hello,
I have just installed CyanogenMod 7 for the Barnes & Noble Nook Color :: V7.0.3 using ClockworkMod Recovery.
After installing CyanogenMod 7, I install the Google Apps addon version: gapps-gb-20110307. The installation goes smoothly, and I receive the "Installation Complete!" message before I remove the MicroSD card and reboot.
Upon reboot from ClockworkMod Recovery, I receive an "Installation Failed" screen that tells me to power on and off the device. I do so, and successfully boot into CyanogenMod7.
I immediately proceed to the Homescreen, where the only items are "Messaging" "Contacts" "Clock" "Email" "Camera" and "Gallery". I have no prompt to set up my Google Account or Timezone. Also, I do not have Market, but I can connect to my WiFi network.
Thank you for your help, it is appreciated. I am obviously a noob, and my apologies for stepping on any toes!
Wow! Looking at some of the questions neighboring mine and their lack of responses, I tend to doubt that mine is going to get answered, even over the long run. I thought this forum had active users, at least that is what the Registration Video said...6 million active users was it???
First of all, deep breath. It may not get answered right away, but typically the questions get answered.
First off, any particular reason you are running 7.0.3? If I recall, this includes the old kernel that has terrible battery life. I would recommend going to 7.1 found here.
I don't know which gapps goes with 7.0.3, but I would double check to make sure it was the right one. I'd still recommend upgrading to 7.1 stable.
Also, I personally recommend doing ROM and GAPPS in two steps... I have eliminated some of the problems I have seen myself by using that method.
1. Install ROM... boot it up... let it settle in.
2. Reboot into CWM and install GAPPS... boot it up... do your thing
Also remember... 4 hours isn't a real long time to wait before posting a second post like you did... especially on a Sunday evening... This is a forum... not an immediate feedback application.
My apologies for my impatience. I did not mean to sound so callous, but after rereading my comment, I realize how abrupt it was.
Also, I remember the site introduction mentioning clicking on the thanks meter as a piece of site etiquette. How do I do that?
After following your advice, I am still having the same problem: not able to use the Android Marketplace as the item is not on my Homescreen, and the Google Apps are not installing.
I took biohazrd's advice, and I upgraded to 7.1 stable.
I also took DizzyDen's advice and installed CyanogenMod 7.1, reboot, let it settle, powered off, booted into Clockwork and installed the google apps pack (gapps-gb-20110828-signed), then rebooted again.
Still, I have no Android Marketplace.
As I stated in my previous post, I am a newbie, and I don't know what I am talking about, but off the top of my head, I have a feeling as if the google apps pack that I used (gapps-gb-20110828-signed) is not the right one. Could this hold any water?
Also, I don't know if it makes any difference, but I bought my Nook in December 2011 and it is a refurbished model. Because I purchased it in 2011, I updated the partitioning scheme using (repartition1GBdata-v1) and (reformatData-v1).
Thanks again, I appreciate the help!

If it isn't on the Homescreen, did you check by open App Drawer?
Thanks for the reply Votinh.
I did not find the Marketplace in the App Drawer. My app drawer currently contains:
Browser, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Dev Tools, Downloads, DSPManager, Email, File Manager, Gallery, Messaging, Music, Phone, ROM Manager, Search, Settings, Sound Recorder, Spare Parts, Superuser, Terminal Emulator, Theme, Chooser, Videos and Voice Dialer.
I was having a look around and figured out how to look at the Internal storage and found something called Market Apps Installer version 1.1. I click on it, but it offers few options to fiddle with and seemingly no way to access the Android Marketplace.
Again, thanks for your help, I truly do appreciate it!
If it doesn't work as expect, I guess you have to list step by step what you have done up to that point, that may help us pin point where and what you did wrong.
Also, pls clearly indicate where you run the ROM from.

I am not sure what you mean. Where can I possibly run the ROM from (what are the possible answers)? I would assume that I could run it only from the SD card. Sorry for being a newbie!
I will list step by step all of my actions and detail them in the response. Maybe, I will go through the whole installation process again and mark down everything that transpires.
Also, what do you think of my theory? That I am downloading and installing the wrong gapps pack?

In here, xda NC forum, you will frequently see the term "eMMC" and "uSD"
eMMC refers to the internal memory of the device, as currently where the B&N stock ROM resides while uSD is the external card where we can put the custom ROMs such CM7/9 in and run from there.
Depends on which method you choose to use, different procedures/instructions needed.

I am ashamed to say it, but I do not know how to verify a checksum to ensure the intergrity of a download. Although, I did download the gapps file twice, once each on different computers, copied it to the SD card and attempted to update. Is it possible that I could have gotten 2 bad downloads on 2 different PCs?
I have gone back and redone every bit of my CyanogenMod and Google apps installation on my Nook Color. I have taken notes on it and below is my step by step description of what I have done and observed. My apologies for the book, but I wanted to be as thorough as I could. Thanks for your help and I would appreciate and advice that can help me resolve this unfortunate situation.
1. Downloaded ClockworkModRecovery (2gb_clockwork-0.7.tar.gz) from http://code.google.com/p/monster-rootpack/downloads/detail?name=2gb_clockwork-0.7.tar.gz&can=2&q=
2. Downloaded CyanogenMod 7.1 (update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip) from here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=encore
3. Downloaded Google Apps (gapps-gb-20110828-signed) from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
4. Downloaded Win32DiskImager (win32diskimager-binary) from here https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download
5. Extracted Win32DiskImager files to a folder on desktop
6. Decompressed and Extracted ClockworkModRecovery to Desktop (this took longer than I expected, the extraction strangely taking 5 minutes)
7. Start up Win32 DiskImager and receive the following File Error message: An error occurred while accessing the device. This usually means something is currently accessing the device; please close all applications and try again. Error 1 Incorrect Function.
8. The File Error message displays itself 3 times. I click OK three times, and then the Win32 Application opens, and I continue with my process.
9. Use Win32 DiskImager to write ClockworkMod onto my MicroSD card. The MicroSD card is a 1 year old, 2GB Transcend MicroSD Card. I use an Kingmax MicroSD card adapter to plug the card into my Computer’s SD card slot.
10. Copy the CyanogenMod 7.1 file and the Gapps 20110828 file to the MicroSD card.
11. Eject the MicroSD card from the PC, insert it into my Nook, and power on.
12. Boot into ClockwordMod Recovery, I go to Mounts and Storage, click on Format System and confirm YES. Next, I format Data and Cache.
13. NOTE: Previously, I was receiving an "Error: can't format /data" error as my newer Nook Color had a different partitioning scheme. I used ‘reformatData-v1’ and ‘repartition1GBdata-v1’ to remedy this when I first attempted to install CyanogenMod. It seems to have gone off without a hitch.
14. I then go to ‘install zip from sdcard’ , the choose ‘choose zip from SD card’ and select the Cyanogenmod 7.1 zip. It opens and installs.
15. After the install completes, I remove the SD card and reboot the Nook.
16. Upon reeboot, I get a Cyanogen loading screen for a few seconds, followed by an error screen that says Install Failed with a large red and white exclamation mark over a Nook clip art.
17. The Nook powers off after a few seconds. I then power on again and sucesssfully boot into Cyanogenmod. I do not have the Marketplace app at this point.
18. I power off, replace the SD card, and boot into Clockworkmod.
19. I choose ‘install zip from sdcard’ and then ‘choose zip from SDcard’ and the gapps zip. I confirm YES and install the gapps zip.
20. I remove the SD card and reboot the system. I receive the exact same ‘Install Failed’ error screen with the red and white exclamation mark over a nook clip art.
21. After a few seconds the nook powers off after the error screen. I power on again and boot into CyanogenMod.
22. There is no Marketplace app on the homescreen or in the App Drawer, leaving me with the same initial problem
Thank you for everything!
I don't think Market will show until you have registered with google. There is a setup wizard or one time provisioning process to go through. That may be the thing that is failing when you first boot. Not sure how to get you back on track.

Re: Google Apps Not Installing
Hi,
After you install CM 7.1, Google Apps, and reboot (hard power off and cold boot - the first boot will fail), look for the Google Talk app in your App Drawer and log in to it with your Google credentials. That should spawn the installation of the rest of the Google Apps, including the Android Marketplace.
Also, strangely enough, when installing my first app from the Market, I had to install it with the device physically in landscape mode, as the installation failed when the device was being held in portrait orientation. This seemed to clear up after the first app was installed.
I stumbled across this thread tonight, as I was searching for a solution to this exact problem while updating a friends Nook Color to CM 7.1. This did the trick for me.
Good luck!
Frank
Thank you Frank! I am going to finish up my current task then break out the Nook and cross my fingers that this will work! I will let you know!
I, too, am having problems
I don't mean to thread-jack, but I am also having problems with gapps.
Following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
The version of CM7 I placed on my card is "cm_encore_full-253.zip". The steps all the way through putting that on the card, putting that in the Nook, booting, it all worked fine. I DID notice the line that said something along the lines of looking for the gapps installation, not finding it, and skipping that step.
I downloaded the Gapps ("gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip") onto my computer. I shut off my NC, took out the SD card, and went to put it into my computer. Lo and behold, my computer can't read the SD card. It tells me it needs to be formatted before it can be used.
Uh. How am I supposed to get anything on the sd card?! I can't even format it to start over - Windows fails to format it.
I tried plugging in my NC to my computer - I at least got the CM7SDCARD to open, but it doesn't appear to be everything (there's no "boot" folder there). I tried moving the zip file to just the main directory of what I saw, and booted into recovery mode, but nothing happened.
Any assistance would be appreciated!

Look at my post here. It tells you how to make the boot partition show up in your system. In your case download the rar rev 1 and follow the directions (per edit 2) on how to manually put the file on your system.

Edit: You sound like a newby, so in order to do this you need the program "root explorer" which you buy on the market. Very useful program for later use too.
If you don't feel like trying this, get a different card reader or computer to see if that helps reading the card.
Edit 2: Also look here for a more recent nightly that has a few bugs fixed. It was built in January and 253 was in November.
