Are you still s-off and have access to recovery?
I am new to this and the rom manager says I don't have root accsess and am afraid to try because I don't want to ruin my phone.

your good.. turn off your phone, then hold volume down and power at the same time until you boot into hboot. After it runs through a few checks, do you see s-off at the top of the screen?

Turn off your phone. Once the phone is off power on by holding the volume down and the power at the same time. (This could take up to 10 seconds) Your phone will now boot into hboot or bootloader. It will run a couple checks manually, then you'll see a few options (fasstboot, recovery, factory reset etc..) at the very top of your screen you should see "s-off" If you see that your good. You'll just need to restore a backup or flash a ROM to get your root access back.
I've had this happen where I lost root, I just re rooted again its easy.I always keep the stock 2.2 ruu just in case I need to start over

Yep, you still have root. Something was broken within the ROM you were using. Just boot into recovery and restore a backup or wipe and flash a fresh ROM.

My first post and im sure i missed it somewhere. Ive spent the past 2 hours reading and searching for some help. I want to do nandroid back up. EXACTLY how do igo about it?
I justgot myG2 a week ago. A day ago i perm rooted it and then overclocked.
I came from a back flip that i rooted and installed j_rodds recovery and rom.
Do i need to do the same custom recovery like j_rodds?

Yea. After you flash clockwork. You can either backup while in rom manger or when your phone is off hold vol down+power then go to recovery. There should be an option backup/restore. Lol note use the track pad to navigate

Once you flash ClockworkMod recovery using ROM Manager, you can also perform the nandroid through ROM Manager, as well. I prefer this because it gives you an opportunity to rename the backup before you create it (instead of getting a seemingly random number sequence). I.e. you could have 'CM7-Feb20' instead of '032301-110235003'
Think of ROM Manager as a GUI for recovery.

True, but if you have more than about 3, it gets a bit confusing. Much easier if they're appropriately named.
When I try this by powering off the phone and restarting with holding down the volume key. Then going into recovery. I get a triangle with a red exclamation point.
Need to flash clockwork in rom manger

Open rom manager, the very top option is to flash clockworkmod recovery. Do that.

I have followed everyones instructions. But I still get the triangle with red exclamation when I try to get into recovery at boot.
DL ROM manager from app store, install ROM manager, open ROM manager, press "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"(should be first thing at the top), confirm phone model.
Either reboot into recovery, or scroll down to backup, and proceed to do so.

Have followed this as well. When I try to boot into recovery I get the triangle with red exclamation.
I have done all the suggestions as listed above. I have noticed when i boot by holding down the volume and power, At the top of screen it still says s-on.
Shouldnt it be S-off with root?
Im over clocked with set cpu, have superuser permission app and terminal emulator show su, and titanium backup shows root. So have i missed something and that would explain why i cant get into recovery?
HELP????

Getting root and s-off from my understanding are 2 different things. Root is its own thing and s-off lets you falsh custom roms..... try going into rom manager and clicking flash clockworkmod.....do it like 2 times. You should be fine

you need to get an sbf file of 2.2.1 and then use rsd lite to flash it to your phone... then you can use clockwork to get back.
I understand that. I'm trying to wipe data to clear up the constant sync error except I have no way of wiping data. Make sense?

Recovery Access in GB
Besides using a reboot into rocovery app, you can also shut down the phone, then pull the battery, put the battery back in and the normal Vol Down + Power will get you into Clockwork Recovery. Seems like GB is in some kind of stand by mode even when you power it down.
I followed multiple steps for installing perm root on a friends Mytouch and for some reason we could not get the s-off feature to work. I noticed too we do have SU access via adb or terminal but I still never could get s-off. After we got root we used rom manager to install clockwork and after the fact it installed 3.0.2 i believe it completely borked the recovery. I stepped it down to 3.0.0 and still had the same issue. The main reason i wanted to get s-off was to adb flash the recovery but I got a signature fail. Any ideas or suggestions to get this working correctly? Rom Manager will not let me install 2x cwm basically stating it can not install it period. I also tried the batch file root method same issue. Thanks for your help in advance.
Please look at the "True permaroot and S-OFF" thread in Development section, and execute step-by-step.
If your friend's MT4G is running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3), you'll need to use Gingerbreak instead of Visionary+ to get root access.

If you are following the ./gfree method step by step it will root your phone.
If you are using the root.sh script and it's not working chances are you may have a bad eMMC chipset and it will not root properly.
I know HTC said they would be pushing a update to close the exploit hole that is used to root our phones but i don't think it's been pushed yet.

HTC isn't "becoming a Motorola". HTC, is completely different. We do have a locked bootloader. But it's easily unlock-able whereas Moto's aren't.

I don't know what to tell you. There are several threads out there regarding how to root your phone. Both in a .gfree form and a root.sh form. One of those 2 work for 99.9% of EVERYONE.
You might try finding someone who put together a .zip that can be flashed through the android recovery(white screen with boot options, etc.). Otherwise you can get the RUU and return to stock. After that follow the directions step by step and DO NOT mix methods. This should result in an S-OFF root, if you did your homework correctly.

As someone already explained before, when the security is on, no matter the amount of flashing you're going to try - it won't get you anywhere, since it won't be written to the actual ROM, and will be gone on restart.
Unless you pick a guide, follow it exactly, and post here everything that doesn't look proper - I don't think the forum can help you much.
Here's one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Follow it and post anything that doesn't look good. Including your bootloader version.
The root is sticking on reboots but still no soff that's what i have been saying and i followed the guides to a t its not my first picnic rooting or roming a phone this one just has me stumped

What does your bootloader show when you boot into it?
For the root to stick after boot, you had to have S-OFF, otherwise the eMMC wouldn't have been written to.
Having no info from you, as I said, it's impossible to help. If all this thread is just a complaint - by all means, but in that case there's no point in helping you. If you want help - you need to provide enough details for people to help you. Obviously, nobody can figure out anything from "I can't get s-off".
I do a adb reboot bootloader and i get us fast boot up top it says s-on but if i reboot to the os i still have root access for instance in titanium backup or Rom manager of that helps any

If your S off then just fastboot it or if you are not S off use unrevoked. S off and fastbooting is the fastest way and easiest.

thanks for the file, was wondering if this would work, if i make a backup of my current rom and then install the new recovery and then restore the backup, so in effect the only thing changed is the recovery or would that not work?
EDIT: and also when i rename the zip that ive downloaded from the link, it needs to be capitals doesnt it, ie PC49IMG.zip and not whatever the name is when it is downloaded
It will work. Nandroid backup and restore will not be recovery specific.
And rename the file to PC49IMG.ZIP, it is not case sensitive. So you can use either all capitals or all small letters. But the sdcard must be fat32.

How are you trying to get into recovery? You can go into ROM manager and select reboot into recovery or you can power down the phone, hold down power+volume down and select it from hboot. Remember, in Hboot make selections using the power button and in recovery make selections using the trackpad. If you still cant get in re-flash recovery.
Now that I think about it, are you sure you are permrooted? Go into your Hboot to check. Make sure s=off.
