Hi everyone. I upgraded my sgs from jg4 to jvp but now my gps seems insatiable of getting a lock. It can see 6-9 says after about 30s, but it rarely gets a position.
The old gps was terrible because it dropped the lock but at least it used to give a reference fairly regularly.
Anyone else seen this?
I'm running jvp with speedmod's kernel.

Bloody auto correct.
Unable to get a lock, and can see 6-9 satellites

Use GPS Aids app to improve your GPS lock.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
start by going into cwm recovery and making advanced/fix permissions
first lock always take a bit longer to make
jvp gps is best one presented so far (aside few carier 2.3.3 versions) so you should not have any problem with it
such apps as mentioned are unsafe imho
Thx man, this solved my issues. Now I have a fix in about 10-15 seconds, before I was only sometimes able to get one in 2-3 minutes!
@spenceee: Like I said I was doing that what $omator wrote, then I was going into gps aids and changed the ntp server under settings for my region.
your gps should work best with your regional modem, so replace your modem with suitable modem
ntp server change got no major impact on fix
Same as changing modem. JVP modem is ok

Damn Samsung! ! !
Exactly 24 hours after I flashed the latest modem and rom, the infamous gps bug is back in full force. Don't see any satellites, no lock, no nothing. I knew that this was too good to be true...

I never had a GPS bug until just recently. It worked great from factory, it worked great after I flashed the first froyo leak from firon (w/o a modem update). As part of updating to the latest froyo leaks, I flashed the modem using the guide to flash using odin/PDA setting with a pit and a tar. Now my GPS is hosed entirely
Others suggested flashing the modem.bin instead of PIT/TAR combo using the phone slot in odin. I did that, which just got me a "Baseband Unknown" and no connectivity. Flashed back to DK17 via PIT/TAR and I'm back up and running, but without GPS still.
I'd be interested if anyone has any thoughts on whether they think flashing the .bin should actually help or not; and further, why I get baseband unknown when I do flash the bin.
Thanks
Gps worked much better than under Di18, so looks like they fixed this problem, but for me, the damn cache bug still remains.

I have sign familiar issues on mine.there was a thread that many slammed as bs but it worked for me when I tried the first froyo tom and had the same issue. Odin back to stock and get a lock. I did in gps status and google maps. Then up to froyo. I just put viper rom on mine and am having the same issues and will be doing this soon.
Hope it helps

And there will be more and more until Samsung gets their **** together. As for you, no one is forcing you to read this crap.

We should start titiling gps threads with a [GPS] tag. That way I can tell from the outside which "bug is back"

Maybe that's why it's not on official release yet?
Hi,
On my tab, the gps lock in Google maps or any other maps seems kinda slow when compared to that of my HD2 running WM6.5...also, it seems to lose the gps connection quite often when driving around and then takes a lot of time to lock back in.
Anyone else noticed this? And any way of improving the gps lock? A nudge in the right direction would be really helpful.
Thanks

I thought my DroidX was slow. It now seems fast compared to the tab.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy Tab
My hd2 is faster then my tab too but my tab is fast enough and dont loose signal
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I did a direct comparison of the Tab versus my Nexus 1, without fail the N1 would find more satellites, and find them faster, than the Tab does. Seems odd as I would've thought the Tab would have a larger antenna for such things.
Data on / wifi on? A-GPS and GPS or just GPS.
Makes a big difference on mine for sat-fix time.
I find the lock on my Tab QUITE fast... usually within 10 seconds. I even get locks inside my home sometimes (allbeit weak)
When Im using it as a gps unit in my car it more or less locks on by the time the route is finished calculating in Navigator.
Mine takes its time to get the satellites but once is done it works like a charm. Unlike my galaxy s wich get the satellites very fast but looses signal very often and has no precision at all.

Are you all using jm6 or jma sine you started to have slow GPS lock time?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
mine locks with 10 satellites in less than 15 secs inside house. JM6
@vs2 - tried with both gps and data on...
@clubtech - am in India and the latest firmware update released for my region is JK3 (which I updated yesterday)...does that make a difference?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
@spirit - I get a lock of 4-7 satelites outside in non-obstructed space at Max...that too drops down quickly to 3/4...

I have had no such problems.
Try reflashing it again, because my gps works fine, just takes a bit longer to load, or what exactly is happening to it?
SENT VIA HAMSTERBALL
Mine works better than it did before Froyo
Reflashing the radio fixed my GPS issue. Thanks guys.
My GPS has stopped working again. It worked the first day after reflashing the Froyo radio but now, days later, is unable to lock on again. Ideas?

My GPS won't lock on either, I'm using pastorbennet's custom Froyo, didn't flash anything from the imnuts thread since I didn't know what to do with the modem file
Mine works though it seems slower to lock, but that's probably an issue of small sample size
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
GPS not locking after flashing EC07 either. God I hate this phone.
Edit: GPS intermittently works.
GPS on Froyo is so spotty that I might go back to DL17. GPS is that important to me.
Sent from my Continuum on stock Froyo 2.2.2.
Had no problems with GPS on E03 for me. I wonder if you got a program that intensifies GPS if that would help? Something like "Gps status"

So I bought this phone about a week ago, and have noticed something rather odd...the signal is never locked, it is either emergency calls only or mobile network not available or it does work...but when it does work it lasts for like 3 minutes... I live in Honduras and don't know what the issue might be.. I used to have a captivate and had the best signal one can ask for...any help?

Try flashing a different modem. Check siky_dudes thread in dev section.
silkys thread is only for cm7/cm9/miui modems!

It'll not help to flash another rom or modem! I had the same problem, tried almost every modem/rom but couldn't solve it. I think one out of 100000 i9000's has signal problems.
I don't recommend to do this;
I used to solve it by plugging in an isolated copper wire into the coaxial input on the back of the device. Here's a link to the thread I started with two videos.

Dude, give that thing back if you can!! Nothing will help! You can do whatever you want, but you'll never achive more than 7-15% more signal and that's nothing relevant!!

i have same problem after new ICS updates it take like 1-3 minute to get network signal i tried different modems and still nothing
It has improved inside the city, i go to school outside of town and there I have no signal...at least I can call and text from home...

First of all you should determine what might have caused the error.
Signal problems can be caused by hardware, software or network provider:
- If the problem occurred after a software update (which is usually change the modem driver) You should flash back the old modem
- If you didn't update or change firmware or the modem it can be a hardware issue (dropped phone, water damage etc.) If you don't experience hw you wouldn't disassemble.Give it to someone who has experience in this topic.
- Sometimes signal problem can be cause by the network provider (network error or upgrade) It is usually temporary problem you have to wait and get good signal few hours/days later.
I hope I helped in the first step to get to the final solution.
Dear friends
My device(U8800) seem to loose gps locks too often due to which i can not use it for tracking sports activities. Earlier on the older kernel .32 it used to work perfectly fine and now since i have upgraded i have tried several roms such as aurora ics, TMC cyanogenmod, MIUI XJ and other 35 kernel roms including the stock roms. On all of these roms the gps looses signal frequently and takes quite some time to lock again although the accuracy is good. Changing gps.conf or modding does not help. Any fix or suggestions are welcome apart from going back to older baseband.
Thanks
Anyone?
