Now that most of us have an unlocked bootloader, is an overclocked kernel module possible?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Possible yes, but I think custom ROMs will come first.
I think we need kernel source for that if not already given.

Isn't the source already released by Motorola? I downloaded the kernel from Motorola's website and looked thru some battery drivers, but didn't look for any frequency CPU stuff.
Ok thank you for the clarification. Now we just have to cross our fingers for CM7... And I thought kholk was making a kernel module... did he ever get it working?

ok. people put 10char in their message because XDA requires there to be 10 characters in any post. then you add how ever many slashes to equal 10 characters.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/atrix.motorola/files/
The kernels are available there.
Yes, this is official Motorola.
http://opensource.motorola.com/ tells you to go to http://sourceforge.net/motorola/ and from there I clicked "All Motorola Android Projects" then "ATRIX" then "Downloads"
Wasn't very hard to find at all.
To download it click "Looking for the latest version? Download kernel.tar.gz (XX.X MB)" (currently 86.1 MB)
I was gonna compile an overclock kernel, but would rather not mess with 2.2 if 2.3 is around the corner. Maybe ill get around to it this weekend for 2.2 for ****s and giggles(obviously we have no 2.3 source yet)

Why not try 2.2.2 to see what you can do, and get familiar with the kernel, then do 2.3.4 for real.

I was wondering why its been so quite after HTC released the new kernel for the Sprint Hero, I thought that was the missing link that was needed for complete 1.6/2.0/2.1 roms?
It hasn't been quiet.
Also the kernel that HTC released needs to be ported to 2.6.29 to fully work with 1.6+.
All this info is on the forum & easily obtainable.

I just thought we would see some 1.6/2.0/2.1 releases now that the kernel was released, that's all
There's been 1.6+ releases for a while...
Let me elaborate a little here:
This kernel that was released is not a magic bullet, it allows us to see what code needs to be changed to get the correct Kernel to run these newer versions. It also lets us make any performance changes we can find.
All of the changes need to be put into the current kernel source, making it a .29 or whatever we need.
It has been fairly quite, we aren't seeing tons of Roms being thrown out to the market, thankfully. Our devs are taking all the time they need to make sure everything works and is stable. We should see some big stuff happen in the next week or so.

does this mean us leakers can root now?

Some people are having trouble seeing it on the site. I upped it to mediafire. Here ya go...

This is already in all the current ROMs. Now we can start using modified kernels that allow for OC and the like.

Yeah that's what I was thinking by I didn't know for sure. But why couldnt we OC before if we already if we already had the kernal?

I don't think you understand what this is. This isn't a rom or a patch or an update. This is the source code to the Eris's kernel. We didn't have this before, we were waiting on HTC to release it.
Do a google search for linux kernel to get a better idea of what a kernel is.

The runnable form of the kernel can't be changed (much very easily, at least). Having the source code renders making real changes to the kernel feasible.
very nice. i cannot wait to come back from vacation to see our phone finally OC'd
YESS! Finally
So this wont help find a vulnerability for us leak users?
It may help find a hole in 2.1 for leakers... But dont get your hopes up to high.. The 1.5 source didn't yield much in the way of root when it was released. Im more excited to possibly see OC on the Eris!!
I'm not a leaker, but there's a thread in General that talks about the incredable being rooted from just the source. That's where you'll probobly find a hole.

Hi all,
as you know today Google announced Android 2.3.
So, I'm just asking if someone on the forum plan to build some AOSP 2.3 custom rom
(I'd love to do this, but I really don't know how to... Jerpelea or zdzihu, some advice for noob ? )
EDIT : found this post, looks nice http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/26/ho...om-for-android-part-1-setting-up-the-kitchen/
I'm gonna give it a try
I think you might struggle to get past step 1..
I. Before You Begin
1. This ONLY works for HTC Android devices at the moment, later versions might support others (check here for an update when it does).

Not sure it should be a problem. The tutorial is a little start as you can't find any cool tutorial... especially x10
Except http://blog.coralic.nl/2010/01/21/how-to-create-a-custom-rom-for-hero-from-android-sources/
yea please developers .... the x10 will be AWESOME and i don't have to change it later.
Ok, I'm getting Android sources, I don't know at all if I'll be able to do something, that's worth a try anyway

working well with the recovery menu - i was able to wipe and then install the 2.3 ROM.
driver support is none existant (as Z said in his post on that thread) but you can at least have a look around and check it all out. Animations seem very smooth all things considered - hopefully 2.3 will not be far off for a real release for our beloved X10
btw - adb is active on the 2.3 ROM also, i was able to push a few apk's to it with no issue at all. Didnt try pulling anything, but assume it would work fine.
and yes, i was able to restore my 2.1 backup with no issues when i had finished playing

dude, did you read Zdzihu's post at all? he has released a preview ROM in his other thread. you can load it using his recovery menu. as i said, i installed a few things via ADB (which included shootme for screens) but was unable to access the sdcard
want more proof? im not spamming, and Zdzihu is the X10 god, so he is telling truth too.
EDIT: am reflashing now, will get another camera to take shots....

Hi guys,
Here's Gingerbread 2.3 PREVIEW rom. It is not one of our roms - THIS IS SDK DUMP - SLOW AND WITHOUT ANY HARDWARE SUPPORT - hence we do not support it!
It is only for those who can't run 2.3 on emulator but still want to see Gingerbread in action. For me, it's just a proof of concept that it will work with 2.6.29 kernel.
Again, THIS IS NOT AN AOSP ROM RELEASE! It's just something to play with in a spare time
Installation: Boot into xRecovery -> install custom zip -> select X10-2.3-preview-signed.zip
Please do a full wipe before installation!

Umm, its negligible. To start a thread in development you need to have created something for other people to test and use. Posting a link to a website which developers probably check every day doesn't really count.

I am in agreement here; this should not be in dev as it is just a link to the kernel released, no actual development is being done. It belongs in general. Plus, you guys need to stop bickering damnit! Time to start this thread with a clean slate.
