Flash stock kernel then use toolbox to provide dual recovery and restore your data.
thanks for the replies but perhaps you didnt understand my problem...i cant go back to stock 2.1 rom which is necessary for flashing any kernel. so i cant flash stock kernel or dual mode recovery.

Mind to elaborate why you CAN'T flash back to 2.1? What's keeping you?
simply put after i flashed alfs kernel i got cwm recovery installed. i didnt make a backup of stock rom. so after installing gingerdx v013 i now have no way of reverting back to stock without flashing a ftf file which i really dont want to do.

Ok, if you don't want to flash back through the 2.1 FTF image you're somewhat out of options ... as the only way to "go Stock" from a custom Kernel and custom ROM is ...
... Flash back Stock Kernel (that only works through Flashtool - irakkarl has a link to the stock kernel FTF in his FroyoPro thread).
... Flash back Stock 2.1.1 through either PC Companion ("Repair" - which will most likely fail with "No updates available" due to the higher version of the custom ROM) or through Flashtool using the ROM FTF.
I think you also need to relock the bootloader.

Well on my cwm recovery when I go to backup and restore then restore there is an option that says restore from xrecovery, and that's how I do it.

He's not asking to go back to full stock, he's asking how to go back to stock rom 2.1 from his xrecovery backup. Read it carefully.

and bjay just suggested an option open for me. no need to bash him like that.

which sounded more like a bashing
but we're not here to fight on trivial matters....so umm any chance somebody backed up his eclair system in cwm recovery. please upload it to 4shared.com and post the link here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431231 here you have the cwm backup, but,it will not change your kernel, you need to useflashtool, please read it carreful, when i posted that link i knew what you need ,remember you need flashtool to flash the kernel there is no other way.cheers
edit:you can change the kernel ,you don't need 2.1 eclair for that, you need ftf kernel file and that's all.
Verry simple
To restore a xrec backup in cwm just rename the xrecovery folder from sd card to cwmrecovery
Leave a thanks if I helped
Hello!
I'm about to root and try some customs ROMs like the CyanogenMod 7.2.0 .32 Kernel (21/07/2012), on my U8800.
But I’m not totally sure how to approach this.
I’ve never rooted or updated before. So I was hoping this forum would be able to shed some light on how this is suppose be done.
After reading through loads of threads here on the forum, I still have lots of questions, and I hope someone here has the answers.
At the moment I’m running B133 (Android 2.2.1) and my phone is an U8800.
Here are my questions:
1. Is it possible to backup IMEI before rooting? And how is it done?
2. Is SuperOneClick v.2.3.3(last version) compatible with all firmware's for the U8800?
3. What do i use clockworkMod for, and is the last version compatible with all firmware's on the u8800.
4. Should i stay on B133 if i want to try the CyanogenMod 7.2.0 .32 or should I upgrade to another firmware.
5. How and what should I backup before proceeding. (to be on the safe side)
6. How unstable(or safe) are the newest firmware's B526 & B528? I’m kind of keen on trying the Aurora ICS later on.
I think that’s all the questions I have for now, but I might have some more later on. I really hope you can help me :fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance!
When I have tried this, I’ll write a guide for all the newcomers(like me).
So it will be easier for newcomers, to root, upgrade and change ROMs etc.. Without the need to spend a week on the forum reading through all these threads.
Best regards!

1. No but after rooting search 5iromtoolbox.
2. No. It doesn't work with B528
3. You use CWM to flash roms, backups, wipes, etc. Use 5.0.2.6 with android 2.2.X and 5.5.0.4 with 2.3.5 +
4. Stay. All .32 (kernel) roms are for android 2.2.X
5. Use titanium backup for apps, some other backup app (from market) for contacts, messages, etc. and nandroid backup in CWM (backup menu).
6. Official roms work, but they are often unstable and have bugs. Upgrading causes problems for some people.

Thank you so much! Awesome! So it goes root->backup>flash>done. GREAT!
So CMW is like my insurance if something goes wrong. BTW it's always recommended to have a backup of IMEI even on the lower firmware's, right?
Do I need to install any drivers before i start?
Again, thank you!:victory:

Thank's again

1. Easier, you don't need computer, but it only works with 2.2.1.
2. Older versions have only "root" button, newer versions have "permanent root" and "temporary root".

Just search I have done it went from gb 2.3.4 to. 587, you just have to use flash tool to downgrade kernel then root with android emulator or something then flash back to. 587. I personally would do that install x parts v5 (cmw) or recovery x then install ultimate hd then mod ultimate hd
On the other case just unlock bootloader install kernel with cmw all ready on it, I am using rush and install custom roms
Hope this helps

Thanks for reply rooting done.... flashing new ROM
As i stateted on thred's info, I have managed to get root access on my C6603, at Last...
Simply flash this .Zip package, the supersu update one, and Make sure you are on advanced stock kernel by @DooMLoRD, reboot the phine twice or something **** that, and voila!
Root acces granted.

....
I'm sorry, but this isn't news and doesn't require a new thread.
DooMLoRD provided his advanced stock kernel in the 3rd post of Androxyde's thread for the 4.3 FTF.
Obviously, if you have an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery, you can flash one of the many superuser zips that are around, including the more current version of SuperSu provided by Chainfire himself - http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Common sense, no?

Due to the amount of people that are flashing the leaked update, without the proper knowledge on what they are about to commit and they claim that their apps stop working, all the threads are useful, in my personal opinion.
Sorry if i disturb you, that was not my intention, just made it to help, nothing more.
BTW: I am on unlocked bootloader with DoomLord's advanced kernel, and it didn't gave me proper root access, so i had to improvise
You didn't have to improvise.
The advanced stock kernel has never provided root access automatically, only the means to gain it by flashing a zip containing the su binary, apk and sometimes busybox.

Yeah..I agreed to that sir..
I have a rooted 4.3 Z right now..Through the use of that method..Thanks to the great devs here for the fast work on the new fw :good:
I got.root through [NUT]'s method with the supersu zip package provided by niaboc79.
Working Like a charm! and still have a locked bootloader!
But somehow bravia engine isn't working at all

The best method for root is waiting for OTA update I think . Maybe they reapair Leaked version . We must Be patient.

maybe you have losed your DRM keys upon unlocking the bootloader? that also may be the reason why bravia engine isn't working.

i have a succesfull root on xperia z c6606 (c6603 569)
I started by flashing old 67 firmware. then got root and dual recovery.
then i flashed 569 with superfix and flashed the stripped down 569
then i flashed existenz's latest rom, v5.
after all that, I ended up with Android 4.3 (569) for C6603 on my C6606 without root access. I still had the recovery, but SuperSu was now missing.
So after 5 minutes of messing around, I found this file, UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip, so i put in root of sdcard, and flashed with cwm or twrp (idek anymore) and now I have root access and xposed framework from existenz is working
here is the supersu fix i used
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
the website that actually hosts the file is download.chainfire.eu, but i am unable to post links to outside files.
edit
this information is really only for Xperia Z users whose Bootloader is Locked. This is an alternative method to Doomlords root, which requires flashing custom kernel, which is not possible with a locked bootloader.
Does anyone know how NUT rooted the ftf? I mean if he did that with a prerooted custom kernel, we(locked Bootloader guys) would not be able to flash that. But everyone say there i no way to root the FW with LB. I am really confused.
Does anyone can explain this to me?

He didn't root the FTF. His pre rooted rom is supplied as a zip that you flash via recovery.

I don't understand exactly. Can you explain it in an other way why do we have root in this ROM?
Because what I understand is that it only have to be a flashable zip for root. But this doesn't make sense to me
Thanks

This is a flashable zip that can be flashed in cwm or twrp unlike ftf which can't be changed or modified and must be flashed in flashtool
In other word Nut extracted the ftf converted it to zip added the root and recovery so it can be installed on the air without modifying the system files.a

He hasn't rooted the ftf.
He has extracted the contents and made a flashable zip of them that is rooted. Basically a custom rom.
The ftf that is in his topic is stripped and probably only contains the baseband and stock Sony kernel and needs to be flashed in addition to the prerooted zip he provides.

So I have finally found out how to root my Sony Xperia Z C6603 and have recovery as well !!!!
Update to Lollipop first 10.6.A.0.454
Firstly unlock bootloader with this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/tutorial-xperia-z-zl-bootloader-t2153261
Thanks to DOOMLORD
Then flash stock kernel with recovery with this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/kernel-unlocked-bootloaders-t3114234
Thanks to Shoey63
Then flash pre-rooted zip from this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/kernel-unlocked-bootloaders-t3114234
Thanks to kassyan_123
There you go it took me two days of stress to work this out , no bootloops , no problems , root access and recovery included with Lollipop
Thanks
Roger
It's easy to root if you have an unlockable bootloader. You don't even need to flash a prerooted rom. Once you have a custom recovery, you simply flash a SuperSU zip and you're rooted. Easy.

On my stock Xperia Z, I rooted then flashed the pre-rooted zip. The bootloader is still locked. Now I have a fully working rooted 454 Lollipop, but I miss a recovery in order to make a nandroid backup. What can I do?
Look for xzdr here in xda. Version 2.8.20 is fully working
