do you know the standby battery consumption on the WP7? I would like to know the comparision.

I have not tried Android in months (in fact since DFT released WP7), however, prior to that i could not achieve good battery times with NAND Android + downscaling + task killer etc.
Has this improved the past few months? WP7 i get a full day so i never went back really.

5-7 with the camera hack. Sometimes the phone randomly gets hot and stays at about 70 in stanby. Also while in use the phone uses a lot more power.

[question] About different radio and android builds/Battery.

Hello everyone.
The answer to my question can probably be found by scrolling trough hundreds of topics and posts, I guess this is a reasonable topic anyway since it’s a issue that will be the main reason for many users about when or if they can start using android on their hd2 as the main OS.
Thanks to everyone who contribute and good job!
I would very much like to start using android on daily base, but for me the battery has only lasted a couple of hours.
I’ve seen people claim to have up to 10 hours of battery with moderate calls and radio usage.
Please post your experience about power consume with your android build and radio rom.
I'm getting about 7 to 8 hours before it's dead. so wish i could get more
I went to sleep with 80% battery. 10hours later I awoke with 0%.
However, I did forget to turn off Background Data, so that could explain the huge drain.
Either use SET-CPU, or what I use, JuiceDefender, This app (combined with the UltimateJuice Add-on) Gives me 2.5 X longer batterylife... It has a widget which actually shows you how much longer your battery will lasts. It also has schedule Data activation or Disconnection. And much more options, i really love it!!!
It is basically the same as SetCPU only with far more options and not as complicated!
hope this helps
My device lasts for about 24 hours, with periods of 15-30min excessive use..
I'm getting surprisingly good battery on my HD2 running Froyo V1 by darkstone, my radio is: 2.12.50.02_2 and I'm running Energyrom
I get about 1 days worth of battery on average use (about 30-40 mins of calls, 2.5-3 hours of wifi, 1 hour of gaming)
Yesterday I had wifi on for 5.5 straight hours downloading games and then playing the, in these 5.5 hours my battery dropped 50%.
Today I'm trying an overclocking widget that I set to have the processor running at 200Mhz while screen is off, and running between 200Mhz and 1Ghz when screen is on, I'll see if that helps with the battery.

Wifi the biggest battery killer?

So I notice that an hour on wifi surfing the web took about 20% or more of thE battery...even playing game doesn't do that to the battery. Anyone experiencing similar thing? Anyone with 3g, is data looking the battery too?
Just keeping wifi turned on is also drains the battery for me.
Check your screen luminosity.it is the biggest battery killer
I'm running the Moto234_eVo_Carbon_V0.3 build and I've noticed that even with the screen off and the phone idle my battery drains at a pretty good rate when compared to WinMo. Any fixes for this?
for me 3g/h draw much power than wifi, almost 1.5x-2x of the wifi surfing..
Screen brightness is easily the biggest batter drain keep brightness as low as possible,
Data connection will hog more than WiFi if you are in an area of weak signal and your device is constantly searching for a signal, when your at home or work using WiFi just turn data off and switch to only 2g networks, set setcpu to screen off 245 245
Sent from my hd2 desire
Screen brightness definitely hits it hard, then wifi and bluetooth, keep em off whenever you are not using them and of course apps running in the background, grab a task killer, if its not needed, it shouldnt be running or else it will use power.

Get "current widget" from the market to see how much powers are being used. While screen off, my phone only drain about 4~7 mA...
I just came across this. Super detailed analysis of battery usage.

3g draws much more power than wifi. If wifi is available use it over 3g. But like others have said, the screen is by far the biggest battery hog.

I don't see how the screen is the biggest energy hog. When I leave my phone uncharged untouched over night and it it displays 7mah on current widget, I lose 40% battery in 7 hours.

That's unusual...i lose less than 10% over night...even with bad reception in my room, that didn't kill my battery. Maybe you can try this to test it out. Fully charge before you go to sleep. The next morning, check your battery in setting to see what is using the majority of the battery drain during that period...this might help you find the reason...
If noting else is running, Cell standby will eat the majority of the battery power.

Yes thats true, exactly the same in my HD2: 3-7mA = 1% an hour or less
Wow, I installed Mdeejay_eVo_Sense_v_2.3Revolution to see if this build helped on battery life. I charged my phone over night and had a full battery at 11AM (according to the meter) but by 7:30PM, my phone was completely dead. During this time, I had two 5 minute phone conversations and used GPS for 9 minutes. Other than that, the screen was not active and I didn't have WiFi enabled. Is this typical? Doesn't make running Android very practical on the HD2. This is only the second build I've tried but it's not looking very promising.

Something is wrong with your build. Try his newer build. They got a new kernel. If that were my habits, my battery would drop by only about 25%. You should install "current widget" from the market. It help you keep track of battery usage. On standby, most people and I got about 3~7mA. If you get a higher mA, that mean something is eating your battery.
Please give Mdj's New Build "Froyo Sense Revolution 1.6" that comes with his new kernel which is suppose to make battery last longer. Hope this helps.

i hope this enlightens you and yes wifi kills battery but it is not the biggest battery killer and wifi is more harmful to your battery life if it is not connected which means it is constantly searching for a network which sucks the life out of your battery.
I think the wifi modules on the new kernels (Hastarin > 8 & MDJ) are consuming too much power.
I usually got 5 ~ 8 mA in sleeping mode with my wifi turning on on the previous kernels, but now I got 8~60 mA and the battery status is showing that wifi is taking about 30% of the battery. Maybe this is because the 802.1n is enabled by default!

Current Widget and battery draw

So we all know that low numbers in current widget are good and high numbers are bad. Thing is, how do we interpret these numbers? I mean if my phone (HD2) is currently drawing 4ma how long should I expect it to last/how much percentage of the battery should it drop an hour?
What about when it's drawing 189?
How do you do the math to figure battery life out?
Its just been puzzling me...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Your battery is 1200mah, that's milliampere hour. So if you're drain 4ma, then it'll run at that rate for 1200mah/4ma = 300 hours. Same for your other numbers.
If only it would run at that rate consistently hey .

Its actually 1230mah
the important thing is that it shoud have the minimal drain at standby moments ... becouse when using the device ... it gets as high as 450 ... on top spikes usualy 200 - 350 so dome nice man should think about minimizing the spikes when used.
By the way my girlfrind just bought a wildfire ...stock and it gets like in stand by 25 - 50 ma and when using 200-300.
Mine with nand android gets like 2 - 5 ma with some little spikes at 30 sometimes.
pretty cool
Indeed it is ! i have both a desire and a hd2, i used the desire for months while waiting for magldr, that things never idled below 20ma to 40ma and with the screen on was usually 350ma to 400ma
now the HD2 with a bigger screen uses less, like 150ma to 250ma and sleeps on under 5ma lol !
the desire may have more battery (1400mah batt vs hd2 batt 1230mah) but it lasts allot longer thx to more efficient use.
One question from a noop.
If i enable bluetooth over different builds the battery drain is quit different.
With most of the HTC builds, like Desire HD i get a battery drain between 3 and 5 ma in standby. With Stock builds or CM builds i get 60 ma in standby?
Has anybody the same experiences or can explain this?
Best regards
trilu
same issue for me but i dont know why this happens

I had this with early HD builds too - I think it may be that it's not going into low power standby mode (just enough to keep connection active)?
Try wifi too - that should settle to 5/10ma if idle.
@ T.S.: You should try the Battery E.T.A. app: http://www.appbrain.com/app/battery-e-t-a/com.ac19.beta
This app shows you the current battery percentage + it displays a calculated "end of battery" time, based on your usage of the phone over the last day/2days/..

That happened to me too with DHD builds and i've tried many things.. the solution to stop the heavy battery damage (sometimes) was just opening wifi and go Idle
So let me get this straight: it is normal for my device to have 400 mA when using it?
Anyone think it's possible to get those "top" ma's down? Because it's draining like 350 ma in full use.. would be cool if we get it below 200 or something Maybe with something like those ultra low voltage builds that you had on the sd android version?

HD2 is the best Android phone on the market. Nothing compares to it besides the Evo and the build quality on those isn't as good as the HD2.
I've ran some tests before. With the phone idle and the screen at the dimmest setting, it drains about 100ma. Turn that up to full brightness and it goes up to 230ma. Phone calls have the screen off and it uses about 150ma or so. The rest is just how hard the phone have to work.
It's really not bad when you think about how much it does out of that little 1230ma battery. You can get close to 7 hours of talk or browsing at dim light. 12 hours of music playback, 250 hours of standby time. These are pretty good numbers. If you really need more than that in one day, you just need one of those extended batteries. I hear this one works pretty well in android without custom kernel

Power Consuming

Hi,
can anyone explain me please why Android is so much power consuming on HD2 comparing to other Android phones or even WM 6.5 on same phone?
I have DL_Desire Installed an I can hardly use my phone for 15hours with normal use.
Why WM 6.5 last for at least 20 hours?!?!
The only thing that is different (about configuration) comparing to WM is the live wallpaper.
A task manager is also installed in order to kill unnecessary apps.
Thanks in advance
Well, if you're running Android from your storage card, then just reading the card all the time is extra work being performed by the phone as compared to reading from NAND, plus the HD2 isn't made to run Android, I mean it's ported, not native, so not everything is perfect. Plus live wallpaper means a little more battery uesed, and task managers use as much battery as they save, so you're not really getting much improvement (if any) in battery life by having a task killer running.
Plus another big battery killer the HD2 has that alot of native Android phones don't have is the huge screen. It eats alot of battery.
But the overall answer: Android is a bit of a battery hog. Thats just the way it is and the price we pay for the best OS choice. My advice is abandon WinMo, boot Android from NAND, find a good combination of ROM, kernel, radio, setcpu settings, and autokiller memory settings that gives you your best balance of performance and battery life. You should get a full day out of that easy and have some battery left over when you plug your phone in at night to charge.
android is more interesting than wm6.5...which will make you use your phone more frequantly...so...it will surely have a shorter battery life
For me, it's 1% or less drain on standby. 2-5mA

That's about what I get booting from NAND. 3-7mA stanby booting from sd, but my sd build drains faster when I'm using it than NAND does, but in sleep mode, not much difference between the two.

my uptime is now 1d23h and there is still 40% battery.
This is with lite use
I think the battery life is great
I think it's 1% for everyone with any build... it's just the time to loose the % which varies
Ok, I go out... once again a useful post...

[Q] Battery Life

I use my HTC HD2 a lot, so the battery drains quite quickly. I'm currently using android 2.3.5 on Hyperdroid CM7.
The battery life is decent, but I can sometimes barely get through one day with only texting and web browsing.
For those who have used both android and 7 mango, can you please compare the battery lives? I'm thinking of making the switch if it means that I can get more usage.

I guess it's NAND Android? For me, WM 6.5 had always the best battery life but with the camera trick I get slightly better battery life in WP7 mango than in Android...
Atm I'm on WP7 mango (yuki/xbmod bttf) and I can get easily through a day (texting, surfing over wifi and some gaming)...
WM 6.5 was the best, but WP7 with old radio (2.12 without T) is near the WM 6.5 autonomy.
Android in 2.2, 2.3.2, CM7, ... was everytime to drainy to have a daily use. Just good enough to play whan plugged to a charger.
What rom do you suggest I use for best battery life?
Hmm, I'm using the Back To The Future Rom updated to mango including the cleanup (that one made the battery life slightly better)
I have 5mAh drain (after battery trick) when in standby and with moderate use it lasts 2 days. With heavy usage easily one day...
I started out with a HTC Touch Pro. Batt. life was okay
Then I got a Milestone (1): Batterylife was ... okay (1 day)
Then I got a Milestone 2 : Batterylife was similar to MS1 (about 1 day)
THEN I got an HTC HD2 and went for MIUI directly. Battery Life was okay also about 1 day. Then I started using SetCPU wich extended my BattLife ENORMOUSLY. I go from about 6 in the morning until about 12 in the night by HEAVY useage (BT almost all the time, PushMail, FB Chat, WIFI running, listening to music via AD2P all the time).
Then I got bored and decided to mess up my life - so I installed WP7. Took me 3 days to install and get unlocked. Don't misunderstand me: I love the OS. I think WP7 is great in means of style and usability. But besides BT-problems, and Market quality, I went back to MIUI mainly because of one thing: THE BATTERY. With BT running and WiFi on, worst days only got me 5 hours of battery time. Totally unacceptable.
As soon as BatteryLife is improved, I will go back to WP7!
I installed CM7 2.3.5 and Mango 7720, Mango has better battery life than CM7.

Even with SetCPU runnning?
i have usually gotten better battery life out of the miui NAND builds than mango but I'm sure if its because i'm usually playing games on mango than i am on android
I'm having such a different experience with battery life. Mango was an awful drain. Camera trick (if I did it correctly) didn't do anything for me and it seemed impossible to gain a full charge while WP7 was running. Had to boot into Magldr to get a full charge. Just wasn't worth it for 6-8 hours with very light use.
Enter CM7 Gingerbread 2.3.6 NAND. Good to decent battery life.
If I could get Mango to perform the way all of you are getting it to, I'd love to switch back. I'm really learning to like Android, as I understand more about how it works, but I'd enjoy more of the WP7 experience.
So that's what I'm doing: record one second video in the camera ("camera trick")
And remember to do it after every reboot of the phone...
To get a full charge, try to use the battery indicator level fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933751
(You don't have to do this all the time... just once)
Try it, enjoy it
Found out that part of my battery drain issue was my SD card. Though my Kingston 8GB class 2 "seemed" to be working fine, I realized the strain it was putting on WP7 after I upgraded to a PNY 16GB class 4. It's much faster now and the drain is much lower. turning off wi-fi helps too.
The only solution that worked for me amongst all the options (based on my experience)
1. Tried the camera trick - NOT WORKED
2. Followed the steps below - NOT WORKED
* Boot the phone to MAGLDR
* Select "Reset" option from the menu
* Phone reboots normally
3. Hard reset the phone - NOT WORKED
4. Charge the phone in magldr USB storage option - NOT WORKED
5. Finally, flashed the 2.12 radio, did the camera trick (not sure if its relevant). The battery life has improved dramatically. It lasts more than 24 hours and still running (26% left) - WORKED.
Follow the thread below to download the 2.12 radio
