HDMI- can screen be put off whilst displaying to TV? - Acer Iconia A500

Yo all!
Connected the A500 to the TV via HDMI- no probs!
But is it possible to put the tablet screen off once you've started a video ?
Kind of like switching displays to 'external', 'external + LCD', 'LCD only' when you hook your computer to an external monitor? Just to save battery!
Or will 3.1 bring some similar functionality?

I would hope so, if not a towel might be a good accessory to pick up.

There is no possibilty to turn of tablet screen while connected to hdmi tv.
Perhaps the devs could brew something, but i dont think so.

if you use moboplayer to watch movie, you can set the brightness to 0, thats completely off ...

Use a towel- ingenious!!
I think I'll go with interqd's suggestion though- Cheers!
Hopefully 3. something will have it
Thanks all

Hdmi output does not work

Hi all, fortunately I have my motorola Atrix but I have a problem when playing videos by hdmi to TV, connect the phone and it started the implementation of video on TV but nothing comes out, it is as if not detected, know if I have to do something special on the phone to work this out??
Thanks and regards
Do you select the webtop or media setting once you plug it in? If so, and you aren't getting anything, then your unit might be defective.

hello I am Spanish and do not quite understand what I say, I connect my phone to the TV by HDMI and then open the rocketplayer by example and not play anything on TV.
I've seen people talking about playing with the entertaiment center hd but can not find how to start that application. I've seen that in managing applications is a size 0.0B, may be why?
Where I can get this application??
Thanks and regards.

When you plug in the HDMI cable, a pop-up should appear on the phone asking to start the HD Entertainment Center. That's the only way to get video-out onto the TV. If this isn't popping up and you haven't done anything to modify your phone software, then your device my have a problem.
ok thanks for the help, the only modification I've done is to make the root software, nothing else has that something to do?
I have only tested on a old TV, I'll try another to see if that is the problem, my TV is the first that came with hdmi at best can that be right?
Greetings
My Atrix had something wrong with it's HDMI, I had to return it and get a new one. When I plugged it in to a TV the phone would act properly (the pop-up menu would appear, and the controls would be present when the media center was selected) but I wouldn't see anything but snow on my TV. I also tried a HDMI computer monitor to the same effect. I lastly went to the ATT store and tried a dock, same problem.
Interesting to know that it was more than just mine.
Oh, mine was stock, not rooted yet.

Hi all, ultimately the problem is not the phone, I tested a friend's TV and it works perfectly, when you connect me jump hd window center and all good, so I have a problem with my TV.
If someone happens just as well try it on another TV in case.
Thanks for the tips and greetings.

[Q] Video Capture card (use iconia as screen)

Hey Everyone!
Ive had an Iconia a500 for a while (practically since it came out)
and i have an old capture card with windows software that i use as a portable screen for my ps3 if i go anywhere. So my question is: is it possible to re use the code for viewing the feed from the card, to an app to use the iconia as a screen for anything i can plug it into?
Thanks everyone!
No.
Not much to say..... but... no
Your only option is to use a remote desktop app on the acer and remote into your pc and view it that way.
You need a battery operated lcd monitor... the acer is nothing even remotely close to that.

HDMI to monitor not working

Hey all, I just got an A500, rooted it, flashed bootloader, recovery, custom ROM, all is good. One issue, I did not see anything on point in the Q&A section on this. I have a standard HDMI cable hooked between my laptop and second monitor. I did get a micro HDMI adapter. I pulled the cable from the laptop and plugged it into the tablet. Black screen on the monitor, although the orientation on the tablet does switch. When I pull the cable out of the tablet I do get a "check signal cable" message across the monitor, so it does seem to be "connecting". I've searched every setting on the tablet, there doesn't seem to be anything else I need to do on it. Am I missing something? The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 940BW, fwiw. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Which ROM are you using for your tablet? ICS or JB? I have a Sony Bravia and when using ICS ROM, everything worked fine. But for the JB, only video but no sounds on the TV, only sound from tablet. It's a known issue for JB ROM. Is this the first time that you use the HDMI from tablet to TV? If yes, I suggest you check the TV's manual for set up option for HDMI. For my Sony TV, I had to use the remote control to select the input option every time I connect the tablet to TV.

PJ Sports 10/27, yes, JB. Sorry, I did not make it clear that I am trying to plug it into my 2nd monitor, not a TV. So, effectively it's a direct path from the tablet to the monitor. Does that help to clarify?

My S2 as a Smart TV hub idea

Hi all,
I had my S2 for a while now and I'm thinking of just connecting it to my TV to be use as a smart hub (media centre) as I don't have a smart TV. I'm sure I'm not alone with an aging S2 and moving onto a newer smart phone.
My Idea are:
- connect the S2 via HDMI to the TV
- use a small Bluetooth keyboard with track pad or maybe some other remote.
- try out probably XBMC
- Disable any phone feature from it (ie phone, sms, etc..)
My goal are:
- use it as a online player - Netflix, youtube, etc...
- Skype
- video player
- stream video from network
- audio player
This will be my first attempt and will be spending some money for the accessories.
Has anyone done a similar set up.
It will be great for some opinions or advice. Or issues it might not work.
Interesting idea.
You might want to think about how you're going to use it with the limited battery life first, because you won't be able to charge the phone when connected through HDMI.
I already do this occasionally albiet minus the keyboard atm,... I use it on short breaks away I took my Mhl cable and a short 1m hdmi cable to plug into the tv in the hotel room using Catchup TV app for more channels than they offered and TV Portal for streaming (free hotel Wi-Fi ftw! )... also use it for some other stuff such as watching avis I have already put on my 32gig card and finally playing my music collection through the tv speakers
re: power supply Mhl cable needs power/charger cable to work anyway also it charges at the same time
I always carry a spare charger

of course the phone charges when connected to hdmi. it does not even work if not plugged into the power outlet first.
Flog your S2 and buy a Pendroid.

Thanks guys.
I got a mhl cable and it's awesome. just plug it in and it works straight away. Got the cheap version though but I guess it won't make that much difference. All I need to do is get a mod to permanently set it up as landscape mode and probably increase screen size. Will look for a new rom probably that can cater the mod.
Just need to figure this all out before spending more on a keyboard.
I had pretty much the same idea. Works well. Here is my thread:

I am going to try running xbmc and see how that goes.
Just to let you know, I installed xbmc...details on my thread (see the above post!)

Asus TF300T {unlocked} {rooted} 4.2.1 - HDMI Connection help!

Before I rooted and unlocked my tablet, I was able to hook up a micro HDMI and output to my flat screen. Since I did all that (and subsequently also deleted a lot of bloatware), when I connect it now it does one of two things:
1) Nothing at all, tv does not show it as being input and screen doesn't change at all.
or
2) tv screen doesn't change, but on the tablet it will say "HDMI connected" and "Click to change settings" - When I click on the settings, it says something about 3D stereoscopic being disabled but doesn't give me the option to ENABLE it.
So just knowing these things, I have concluded that:
-It is not the TV, as it worked before.
-While there may be something going on with the mini HDMI port, such as wiggling it or pushing it further in, even that fix does not overcome the inability to enable or change HDMI settings.
- It is possible that I have deleted something that previously was allowing HDMI out to TV work.( Any ideas on which app/software would determine that? like NVIDIA or something?)
anyone have ideas on a workaround? thanks!

I thought we lost ability to change hdmi settings with the upgrade to 4.2.1? As far as I'm aware it just works when you plug it in.
Maybe you deleted some files you shouldn't?
