I’ve managed to brick my Iconia A500 (long story but device wasn’t rooted) and am unable access the recovery menu (power and volume combo).
When I power up the device it simply hangs at the initial Acer splash screen. I’ve tried various thinks suggested on different forums but nothing seems to work.
Anyway I have a few of questions you guys might be able to answer:
1. Can you boot the device from an external SD card or USB flash drive? If so how?
2. If you can’t do number 1 how do Acer get the O/S on in the first place?
3. Do these devices not have BIOS screen you can access like PCs?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

If you get this far, you are not entering recovery. Try again to holf the power button and volume down button at the same time and hold untile you see the recovery come up on the screen. It may take a little while. If this does not work, then get a USB keyboard and attach it to the tab. Hold the HOME key and boot. This should factory reset it.

Not sure, but most electronics have a maintenance connector that allows such things to be done.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately i've already tried your suggested fixes.
I’ve contacted Acer support here in the UK and the device is currently winging it’s way to them.
**Update**
Just received a replacement device from Acer support. I'm thinking it was now a hardware failure rather than a software issue.

**NEW GET THE TWO ICS ROMS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633907**NEW
first download all three of the files
open the acer decrypter and run it
now where select the input file, should be in downloads folder(leave the output folder
remove the sd card from your acer a500 and put it into some kind of device that can hold an sd card and plug it in
select usb mass storage device or disk drive on your device
go into your download and open the DECRYPTED rom
Extract the whole folder to desktop
now copy all of that to the sd card through your phone/device
shut off iconia tab
hold power button and VOL- until it says entering recovery mode
now you should see a green android guy with gears in him
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING
hope this worked, it worked for me!!!!!!!!
*************if the first rom doesnt work do the same steps for the second one, be sure to delete the first one off your sd card*********
any input from other users,... success?.....failure?.
just think this is good info..."if correct" i wouldn't mind having this knowledge if it works
Yes, it works. I did it a few times to unbrick my A501 this week.
I had broken my recovery also, so the EUU version helped in that case, but at least I got a clean start to go to another ROM.
hope this has worked if it has please hit the thanks button
When you say SD Card, do you mean the external SD card, or the onboard card? I need to do this, but my tablet isn't recognizing my external SD card. Is there another place for me to put the files, where the tablet will access them?
You need to us ethe external one, in cwm mount SD card
lol im such a dope ive actually used the EEU rom to ix the verified boot failed error when i first loaded flexreaper.....lol mind becoming more cluttered then my pc.
For a cluttered PC I would recommend advanced system care hahahahhahahahha and for your head a good run or bike ride or even a nap

Hi,
just a question, why download the 2 ICS ?
one of the 2 is enough ? Which one to choose ? What is the difference ?
Thanks
Only boots to recovery
So i have been using the flexreaper rom and i tried installing the newest revision and when it all finished (i took all the proper wipe steps before installing) and now my tablet only goes to the acer screen... I have tried other roms, but no dice. I am going to see if this works.
Great Job!
You did a great job with this post, It works flawlessly
Thanks!
My Iconia does not even boot, all I have is a black screen with the power light on. Will this method work for me?
Try pressing the power button and volume up at the same time and if you see the green android with gears, you are good to go.

I have managed to get it out of APX mode and flashed Lightspeed V8 ICS bootloader and recovery. Have tried to flash multiple ICS roms but it hangs at "Booting primary kernel image" with every one. Any possible ideas?

you need to re-install your bootloader, all the roms now require the ics bootloader

I am writing this because I have noticed when attempting to grab the SBK version of my SL101 that in order to put the device in APX mode, I had to actually hold VOL + and Power WHILE I was running the tool. This may help people that were unable to put their device into APX mode. Also My eeePad SL101 was purchased sometime near the beginning of 2012, and I have an SBK version of 1 with a serial number that does not match the standard serial numbers listed on the related thread (which i cannot link to because i'm a noob) (serial number was something like 0x043cxxxxxxx)
Thanks for starting this thread. I tried to grab my SBK one day but was unsuccessful. I will try again once I get back to my desktop. Also, I too have a 043c serial number. Every other one I've seen has the usual B50 to C20.

Hey there,
My LG D802 32GB just fall out of my car and the complete Display is bricked (I think Digitizer is also harmed) and I am not able to touch anywhere.
I know a lot about fastboot, adb and so on. But I do not really know much about this device, since I hadn't got the time to do so, too busy with other stuff. Unfortunately I disabled USB debugging a week ago after I finished some development stuff. And I just want to make a new backup (last one was a few weeks ago ) of my data before I try to repair anything or buy a new one.
I do not know why, but I cannot enter Stock Recovery (just keeps rebooting), Download Mode is working. Phone is also booting normally, just no way my fingers are recognized.
I tried to enter Recovery Mode (stock), to perhaps have adb access (don't know if it is so on d802), with Volume Down+Power, release when Logo appears and then press again, USB Cable was connected. I know i entered it once after buying this phone, but now I am not able to do so. Are there any special drivers which are perhaps missing (installed them with PC Suite, all upgrades were done with it, cause I do not like OTAs for several personal reasons).
Thank you very much for reading it and perhaps helping me!
just want to add something:
Also tried with LG Onscreen Phone, but also deactivated ...
Some recoveries can be used only with hard keys. Or use a mouse to navigate
Thank you for this great idea. Just ordered an OTG adapter.
What do you mean with hard keys? Volume Up/Down ?

Yes exactly. I think cwm can Do this
Ok backup done... Could have thought about this simple option too...
After an update, I get an error message... I restart the tab, and shows lenovo logo with an orange progress bar, that interrupts before ends.
Now, The screen is totally black, pc dont detect the tab... If i long press power button I get a vibration fro tab, and the led of power button light for a few seconds, then nothing.
I try to boot in dnx mode, fast boot... all things, nothing. Black screen
some advice?????
thanks
Please see this guide I wrote some days ago at https://forum.xda-developers.com/th...mprehensive-guide-to-lenovo-yoga-tab-t4082253
Even if you can't see in your screen you are in DNX mode, you may be there, and you only need to be there for seconds. Follow the instructions for flashing firmware using the Intel tool. You may need to come back to Lollipop, but that is a good start.

Ah... I haven't wrote about it but some devices (even some Lenovo ones) can pull an update.zip file from an external sdcard. You can research about this update method since they don't require a PC connection, other than that, consider going to tech support.

The update.zip file method just needs to detect the SD card and pull the update file. I did not wrote about that method and above all, is not mine. It's just an idea for you to explore, I wouldn't know if it will help.

how its work?¿
I'm flashing my new Lenovo tablet with Android 9 (so I can flash it later with Ubuntu Touch) and after SP Flash tool finished flashing
tablet won't power on. The power button does nothing and holding volume down + power button does nothing either.
The battery isn't dead so I'm trying to figure out why the tablet won't come on if older ROM is on it.
I had no error outputs during the flash.
This is the ROM I flashed https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmwar..._Gen/TB-X606F/TB-X606F_S300007_200923_BMP.zip
Any suggestion as to how to get it to work again ?
I don't think you can downgrade these. You may need to completely wipe and reinstall the ROM.

No i mean when you connect the tablet to the pc in recovery, open Device Manager and ensure the tablet is connected with the correct driver. I'm sorry i don't know what that is offhand, but it should be different than when you connect it if the tablet was working. Sorry if it makes no sense, but i think this is what's going on.

In my case there's no "connect the tablet to the PC in recovery". The tablet won't power on at all. Can't invoke fastboot nor recovery. The tablet doesn't react to any presses. Or press and holds. No nothing. The only thing I can confirm is the red LED on when the tablet is on charger.
Window's device manager is recognizing MediaTek USB driver when plugged in but that's it.
I've ran out of ideas about how to restore it hence I'm posting here.

If it's that dead, then it sounds like the preloader.bin is trashed.
Try this method.
There is also an older thread for older SOCs that might have some hints.
Otherwise, you might have to open up the tablet.
You could research and try the "test point" method. It involves shorting two points on the motherboard. I did something similar for the X605F (which has a QCom SOC).
I'm not sure where the test points on this tablet are. Some MTK devices don't have test points. Google "mediatek test point" for starters. If you can't find them, then maybe ask Lenovo where they are. If you find out, post a photo of the test points on here.
If you're not confident doing any of this, then send the tablet to Lenovo for repair.

Yeah, I've ordered opening kit. I'm going in. Quite a few people got their devices working by disconnecting the battery and connecting it back. I've noticed that no matter how long the
tablet is on charger the LED stays red, it doesn't change to orange or green.
This same problem has happen to two more members of the community. Same tablet.
We had to flag that ROM as it bricks the tablet.

I don't have a lot of experience with the SPF tool, but could the root-cause of your problem be that you need to use a different dropdown option? See the description of the options in the unbrick guide - specifically the firmware upgrade option.
It makes sense that you want to force a full flash of low-level firmware when changing Android versions. That option seems to do exactly that.
Android 9 OS is not going to play nice with low-level firmware written for Android 10.
There might be nothing wrong with the ROM ??? ...just an idle thought.

The flash tool doesn't do anything when I click Download and plugging in the tablet while holding the volume down button. Dropdown option was set to "firmware upgrade" as advised.
The guide suggests that it's for people who can at least power on the device. It says "switch off the phone ..." which I don't need to do since I can't even switch it on

You need to use a rework station heat gun or maybe a hair blow dryer might work to heat the sides of the screen to remove it.
I recommend cutting a water bottle in a square or rectangle shape then using the corner to slowly pry the screen off. After that remove the battery ribbon and hold the power bottom for 20-60 seconds to fully drain the charge.
Then recconect it and turn it on 100 percent works.
Just remember you must have the flash tool app and firmware ready in upgrade or download mode while holding down vol. It will reflash the tablet and bam will unbrick.
Just to note down my experiences here as well. I now also got into the same trouble. I tried
TB-X606F_S100015_191127_BMP.zip and also TB-X606F_S300091_201215_BMP.zip
It turns out that with these two you cannot start up the device anymore. Just as the thread-creator described. In my case pluging out and in again seems to give the SP FalshTool the chance to flash again (put it in "Download"-Mode before). So the latest firmware by today - TB-X606F_S300429_21110_BMP.zip - helped me to revive it again.
For me this is nice, but I also wanted to put Ubuntu touch on it just as described here: https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/android9/lenovo-tab-m10-fhd-plus/lenovo-x606 ... unfortunately I am blocked now due to not being able to bring Android 9 on it. btw: There is no proposal on the site which firmware-version is even Android 9. I just guessed from the date.
