Unrooted mytouch 4G battery life - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently "unrooted" my MyTouch 4G because I found out I had the bad emmc chip and didn't want to "brick" the phone before I got my replacement from T-Mobile. Since I've unrooted the phone, I've noticed that the battery life isn't nearly as good as when I had it rooted running Royal Ginger 2.1 (was running it since the 2nd day I had the phone, the battery life was pretty good on Royal Ginger).
Previously I had a Nexus One (unrooted) running Gingerbread and the battery life was very good. I'm hoping the new mytouch I receive from T-Mobile has the good chip. What ROMs are the closest to the standard android OS (i.e. like the Nexus One/S)? Also, is there a chance that the bad emmc chip correlates with battery life?

Cyanogenmod 7 and Faux's Nexus AOSP Gingerbread ROMs are good.
Stock Android on the MT4G front what I heard has better battery than sense ROMs.

That's called sense. Its like a fat chick on a tricycle. Its going no where fast and needs a hell of alot of energy to get there.

lol yep, sense is a battery whore. sure it has some great widgets and looks good, but at the cost of battery life. if you want AOSP, try out Faux AOSP rom. its just pure awesomeness! also the kernels have a lot to do with battery life as well, as they have many tweaks to get great battery compared to the stock kernel

Okay. Thanks for the information. So faux's soap is basically stock gingerbread (like it's on the nexus s/one)? If so, I would imagine it is fairly light and very good on the battery.

How would one know if they have the chip you are talking about and how would they go about getting it replaced via T-Mobile?

read this thread for some insight on the good/bad chip.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081243
so far, there is nothing you can do about the fail-pu error or cache errors caused by the bad eMMC chip. T-mobile will charge you a price to replace the phone because its still bootable. Im not encouraging this, but you must brick your phone to get a replacement....
now back on topic

I think the auto fill took over and put soap instead of aosp. Lol. I actually put the faux rom on my replacement device (which has the bad screen and chip). T-Mobile is sending another replacement because I told them about the bad screen on the new replacement they sent. This rom makes this mytouch 4g feel just like my nexus one but with a lot more space. Thanks for the info. Hopefully I don't brick this device before I get the new one. I did sign up for the extended warranty, which the guy told me covers any T-Mobile phone you use (whether you bought it or got it from someone else). The only requirements for getting a warranty exchange are no water or physical damage. That was part of the reason I took the chance on rooting this one.

awesome! just remember when reverting back to stock using the stock PD15IMG.zip, you must be on the stock radio. flash the stock radio before anything else, then you should be good to go with reverting back to stock to send it in

Yeah. I've found the best combination (on this end, at least) has been CM7 & Tiamat 3.3.7. I use the non SBC but you may want to use the SBC one to really squeeze out what you can. As always, things may or may not be the same for everyone, so testing out different combinations is encouraged.
Downloading OMGB and Synergy-Kindom right now. Going to do some playing around and then once I have that out of my system then I'll hunt down the holy grail for max battery life. I never really liked CM7 but maybe I'll give it another try.
I guess I'm going to have to put a rooted stock on and backup my game data because damn it I'm not going to start Cut The Rope and Angry Birds over again.

As good as I've seen. But I use my phone a lot, so my experience may not fall in line with others. If I can snag 8-10 hours and 3-4 hours of screen on time (which obviously varies depending on what is happening when screen is on and phone in use) then I'm content. Not necessarily saying from 90-some% to 0% as I tend to plug it in before it completely dies, but around 20-30%. It all depends, hard to throw out a legit average / value / number as it depends on multiple factors. But, for me, that combo has been as solid as any.
Of course the first thing I did is nandroid. I even restored it to make sure it was good to go. I've wiped and now I'm waiting to Synergy-Kingdom to boot. Kind of fell back he love with Sense so I'm going to try that out for awhile.
Yeah. Synergy was solid for me. Was the longest I hung onto a Sense ROM.

I fell in love with SENSE 3.0, but I went back to CM7 because I just needed my HDMwIn and SixAxis app to work.
Having issues with Synergy-Kingdom Nightly. Sense reboots almost non-stop. Going to try Synergy RSL1+Godmod as it seems there is a lot of the Sense 3.0 apps are in there. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far but I'm probably going to end up on MIUI. Going to try this for a week and see how it goes.
I also have miui on my evo. I rooted my wife's evo tonight and put miui on hers. It is by far the best looking and best performing rom there is. Once I found it i never went to another.

Is there a way to get the Sense 3.0 email client on Sense 2.1? I really dug that from the little while I had Sense 3.0.

What rom are you using with a Bell atrix?

I have a bell atrix on stock bell 2.2.2. It is rooted as well.
I want to go to a gb rom but have no idea what is compatible in Canada on a Bell atrix. Most of the roms say AT&T or are built from that gb and radio. (which I am assuming would cause me some radio / reception/ compatibility issues)
Im running kens alien rom on my bell ATRIX, all you gotta do is make sure you have the right kernel, and preferably the right radio as well.

Depends on which model you have. There's a d00 and 1100. The easiest way to find out is by downloading and opening an app called terminal emulator. Once you're in terminal emulator, issue the following commands exactly as you see them here:
su
cat /proc/cmdline
You'll either see this: tegrapart=mbr:d00:100:800,kpanic:2100:400:800:
Or this: tegrapart=mbr:1100:100:800,kpanic:2500:400:800:
Whatever is after mbr is what model you have (either d00 or 1100). Once you know that, you'll know which kernel you can flash to any gingerbread rom. I've been using faux123's d00 kernel and have had no complaints. It has worked on every gb rom I've tried. As far as radios go, I've been using the stock at&t radio that comes with most roms. I've had great battery life and good reception. I know the 2nd build of cm7 uses 1 kernel for all phones, so you won't have to worry about flashing the proper kernel to get the ram fix for your international phone.
How is the battery life and reception on the gb youre using compared to when you were on a stock bell software?
Ill try terminal emulator later today.
Do you recommend going to gb?
CM7 pre beta #2
Couldn't be any happier with it's performance. I am using faux123 oc international kernel, and the bell radio here's the links. Make sure you read carefully that's all I gotta say

I would, but that's just me. You'll need to unlock your bootloader to go to gb, and that will possibly void your warranty. I say possibly because it doesn't say definitively one way or the other if your warranty will be voided or not if you unlock your bootloader. My battery life is great. I'm getting about 2 days of good usage from CM7. My reception is great as well. I have no complaints.

Well trolled? I'd be sad but I should have seen that one coming. Ah well, patience, it will come.
So after unlocking the bootloader and all required steps, and then flashing a new rom , kernel, and radio, is there something I have to do about a battery drain issue that I am reading about in gb?
Still 2.2 stock rooted. I'm in no hurry to get GB.
Will probably wait it out until CM7 (nightly) "officially" arrives...
I was experiencing heavy battery drain with all the GB ROM's until I went to CM7 pre-beta (#1). I tried all the tricks, tips etc but nothing seemed to work until I used CM7. Now i'm getting battery life better than I ever did on froyo. I've been consistently getting 22-28hrs with moderate useage (3+ hrs of display time, 1+ hrs of voice calls, plus all the texts, im's etc)
It seems every ROM affects everyone differently. Some people were getting great results using Alien ROM vs CherriPi ROM, and vice versa. You may have to try a few out and see what works for you. My personal opinion is there is something related to BLUR in the new GB that is causing heavy battery drain, because as soon as I went CM7 (with no blur) my battery life almost tripled from what it was.
Most if not all the roms out there have the battery fix already installed so you should be ok. Although battery life is a bit worse then froyo I gotta say, upgrading is still well worth your time in my opinion though.

Ok so I don't actually own the my touch, my girlfriend has it, her first one we got maybe back in may? But anyways, it was a piece of ****, all stock of course, she doesn't want me hacking her phone lol. I figured maybe it was just her phone and called tmobile and eventually ended up getting a replacement.. well turns out this is just as big of a piece of ****, hardware wise the phone should run very nicely, would rooting and installing a custom fix most of her issues (which are too long to list atm) and if so, what is the recommended rom? I do know she would like to stay with a GB rom, any advice would be appreciated.

Well, if she does have an HTC myTouch 4G, there are several choices.
One is a the stock rooted ROM w/ any one of several custom kernels.
Another is Android Revolution HD. There are two versions in the dev section, both of which are in the same thread and are great.
Energy ROM is also good, but she may not care for the look.
Also, there is InsertCoin v1.7.1. I'm running that one now and really like it.
Edit: Bas3balman and I are shamelessly promoting the port our team released. Haha.

Haven't changed the DPI no, and very impressed with stability of the build I have had pretty much no crashes at all. However there are some performance issues, FPS is much lower than in sense based ROMs in a number of games, hopefully should be addressed in the next few nightlies.
Audio is of good quality if perhaps slightly quieter out of speakers than on sense. Some random dipping of volume though listening to sound through headphones

I wanted to go to stock 4.2.2 but can't since now my device is s-off usage reporting to HTC is on and can't be turned off and that is causing bad battery drain too.
But I think all in all the One is so good out of the box there isn't really a big reason to root....
Rooted just cause I'm deeply in love with ARHD. LOL

Stock. I am afraid to waste too much time if I root. You all know it's an addiction when you start flashing roms...

Rooted & Stock.
It's nice to have a play & see all the lovely tweaks that are acheived with custom roms.
But I think stock has got that good on the One, that as far as day to day tasks & running go there isn't much between stock & custom. But it's sure nice to have a choice & I thanks all the great guys who do the custom roms :good:

Was rooted. AOSP bricked my phone.
No insurance and $200 later, here I am, having to make a warranty claim because HTC screwed up while putting my phone back together.

AOSP didn't brick your phone. I'm pretty sure you didn't know what you where doing.

There have been a few bricks on aosp and a few bricks with custom roms that I've read about, I believe that the problem is just random faults HTC, can't expect to have so much going on in a phone, mass produce it on a large scale and not have some phones shutting off permanently for unknown reasons. Sorry for ot. I rooted to see what my one is capable of, tried nearly every Rom but now I'm very content with a stock custom rom that allows me to modify and personalise everything that want

I'm stock and unrooted but planning to root after warranty time/no OTAs I love rooting and flashing (got a HTC Desire before and changed it every week ) but always take the OTAs until HTC announce there are no further updates anymore.
I'm pretty satisfied with the One unrooted though. Maybe only (real) negative aspect so far is decreased battery life compared to rooted devices.

Rooted,Modded,Tweaked! the lucky 3!
Rooted on stock GE because I'm developing a couple apps that require root
Idc about different Roms so much, just basic aosp/ge for me.

Rooted mostly because ARHD did it for me automatically. Greenify is really the only app I use that requires root.
Stock
Spent ages going through ARHD/CM/AOSP roms and all that craic only to end up on a stock rom on the Sensation and had much the better experience on Stock.
Haven't rooted the ONE as i just really don't think it needs it (for me) and so far, i have been proved correct.
Rooted.
Why? So I can clean up the crap I don't want that they schlep into /system, and for tether.
