[Q] Random screen rotation - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hey everyone, loving the tab so far just curious though if maybe mine has a issue that i will need to return in exhange for another. For some reason occasionally my tabs screen will rotate to portrait mode without me even rotating the device. This only happens once every couple of days. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this and if this is a software or hardware bug?
Thanks.

You're not alone. Happens to mine from time to time also. Funny thing is it never seems to happen when I'm holding it but only when it is propped up in its case.

Yup, seeing it while sitting stationary in the Desktop Dock with Pandora playing. The desk/dock are not moving at all....so it must just be a software quirk than needs to be fixed.

Posted this a few days ago. Hope it is just software related?

It happened on my TF and previous 10.1. No worries. It's HC.

It happens to me when i prop it up in bed... No, not watching porn. Not that there is anything wrong with that if I were.

Isn't that the only reason we have Flash?

Slower upside down?

ok.. so if the Xoom is in the normal position. Moto and Verizon Logo on top the scrolling is great, nice and smooth, if i flip the device over (Moto/Verizon logo upside down) the scrolling feels and is NOTICEABLY choppy.
and when I have it Long up/down its also kinda choppy..
anyone else having this issue? any idea why?
I just noticed I was useing it upside down and was wondering why it was a little choppy, so i flipped it the other way just for the heck of it, and boom..
weird huh?

I can also attest to this weird behavior.

Hmmm.. Mine is smooth scrolling on all ends. What version of honeycomb are you guys on? I'm on the updated 3.0.1.

I mentioned that in a post a week or so ago but no one really said much. I had the issue with 3.0.0 and with 3.0.1. A friend of mine with a Xoom has the exact same problem. I also have checked models in best buy and Verizon all experienced the same problem.

3.0.1.. the latest
Ive noticed the same thing. Landscape works great. Portrait view = choppy. however..... its still awsome so i dont care lol
That's really strange. I was playing with the Xoom at best buy, and I threw Gensoid and Sonic 3 on there. I was playing it in the normal position and in the vertical setting and they both seemed fine. Didnt try browsing though.

Just swipe normally through the screens in the home app and then put it upside down. You will notice immediately.
i haven't tried sitting upside down with the xoom
Too mork for me
Unfortunately, this problem affects my 3.0.1 wifi xoom as well. I guess render script was never optimized for other orientations. Until this gets fixed, I've just disabled auto rotation, lol.

You have not used a XOOM untill you use it upside down. haha

potrait in 3.2!

i just found that launcher in 3.2 is now as smooth s butter when running at potrait mode. browser speed is also increased slightly. great news to xoom owners
Yeap, in portrait is working really smooth now, I did not use the browser jet... hahahaha
Just one thing, when you change from portrait to landscape or otherwise it still takes some time to adapt, a few seconds but after that... it goes really smooth....
I did tried some mkv files, but they did not work fine for me... I have seen other users that tried them and work fine for them.. I do not know why...
What about upside down? It used to lag badly upside down.

thats weird my xoom doesn't lag when upside down...I do it often took....well only when I'm charging and am using a dock

Its typically on desktop during screen rotation. I know I'm not the only one whose experienced it, I've seen it mentioned a few times before. Its really odd because being upside down should be no different, at least I assume.

You're definitely not the only one. It was a known issue. Happy to say it's fixed now. Though there's a part of me that still wonders how an issue like that ever made it into a major release in the first place.
i think it turns ALOT faster now. Like, I dont mind turning it because it barely takes time anymore.

Good to hear, and you and me both wonder that, not only an official release but multiples, from 3.0 through 3.1.

Thanks for reporting this. It was the only thing I was scanning all the 3.2 posts for, and no one else had chimed in on the matter quite yet.

It was explained at Google I/O I think. Basically Tegra 2 couldn't handle rotation, so they were forced to do it in software. They've probably come up with some clever tricks to optimize things since then, thus the boost in performance.
i still get lag in launcher at portrait mode. not as bad as before, but still lagging.
On the other hand, its very smooth upside down.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
yeah now that I've installed 3.2 I don't see much of a difference at all. Still too laggy for me.
how about trying few times of reboot? cause mine really as smooth as butter now.. removed adw too

intermittent lines on screen. hard or software?

hey,
I've noticed some lines showing up on my screen... they only show once every 10/15 min and run across the vritical when in landscape mode. typically only one or two pixels thick and lasts only a moment.
Like every one my tablet takes a tumble now and again, but if it was hardware then my is it so intermittent?
any ideas?
I think this has happened to mine too but it flashes so fast that I don't know if it's happening or I'm seeing things. It's very rare though for me.

I get it every now and again, seems to happen when the screen has been on for a long period.
Not sure what is causing it, I tried to Google it but couldn't find anything.
It seems to be software guys, as before the 4.1.2 update I was getting these lines around 2x as often. Hopefully the next ota knocks them out for good.
I think it is WiFi reception strength related. In my case, they appear only when WiFi signal is weak. They have been there since the beginning. But now, not only vertical, some times horizontal lines appear as well. Horizontal lines didn't exist before 4.1.2 update. Same issue have I with my TF700. So, I assume it's both hardware/software related.

I never had this with stock rom but have had it with some custom roms, I had it with "slimbean 2.7" but since updating to 2.8 it has gone. So, it points to software.
Maybe megamoz is onto something too.
I don't think it is a faulty screen. Something else is going on.
I am on rooted stock, had them both before and after rooting.
Don't think it is related to the WIFI, not for me anyway, as I get it when browsing in the living room and I sit right next to my router so I get full signal.

that would sound like a prime candidate for me. I have been stuck in hospital for 10 days, and the tab has been on for 15+ hours at a time some days... although the wifi angle is interesting too.
just happy its "normal" and not that I dropped it
thanks everyone for you input
Yeah I am also getting them and they seem to happen more when there is alot of white background on my screen or maybe that's when I notice them more lol but as far as problems go that's all my NEXUS7 has so hopefully it is software and can be fixed with a good old update COME ONNN 4.2 GOD BLESS YOU GUYS

I see it everytime I use Flipboard, and also have noticed it in Maxthon occasionally. At times it flickers, and others the thin line will stay until I move to another page/screen.
Sensation, ARHD667
its software. i remember seeing a post a while back about a guy who managed to take a screenshot of it. somehow. if it was a hardware issue, it wouldnt appear on a screenshot

Nexus 10 screen glitches

Every so often (usually when scrolling between home screens, and ALWAYS on the home screen), the screen has a horizontal line, maybe 200 pixels high, that just bugs out for half a second. I'm wondering if this is a problem with software or hardware so I can decide whether or not to RMA. For reference, I'm on stock and have not updated to 4.2 (I don't want to deal with all of the problems people are having with 4.2).
So, has anybody else experienced this? Thanks.

I've been having this happen to me. I've had my nexus 10 for about a week now. Did you find a solution to this?
That's not the glitch I have. What my problem is that I play Angry Birds and when I touch the screen to activate a bird it takes about 1/2 a second to respond. I keep thinking it's Angry Birds but maybe not. The OP says "glitches" so I think I'm still on topic.

I'm having the same issue. I've only had the n10 for a few days but I'm getting that little screen glitch a lot. Always about 20% up from the bottom of the screen in landscape, and it stays there in portrait so it's on the left or right side. Is everyone getting these? Has it gone away for anyone or have you found a solution?

My game problem was handled by flashing the JOP40D OTA zip. It seems to have handled anything I was noticing.

I have the same exact problem with the same settings although mine will sometimes hit other parts of the screen occasionally. Was also wondering if an RMA is in order or is it just software.
Same here! I truly wonder what cause this..... Should I RMA?

Did anyone RMA
So, I know I'm replying to a very old thread, but I'm having the same issue and we wondering if anyone had RMA'd their nexus? Mine's out if warranty in a month and want to return it if this is potentially a hardware issue.

Yes, I've had this as well.
I don't know what causes it, but during a film, about an hour in, it started going fuzzy, as if someone added a "static" track in there. It becomes all static-y...
It's resolved by rebooting.
Anyone have insight on this?

A ROM bug maybe?
No, I have stock and the same problem after a long gaming session. Closing and re-open the app sometimes works, but sometimes indeed only a restart works.

If rebooting fixes it, it sounds like it may be a software issue. Have you tried doing a factory reset?
Mine has done something similar a few times, only while playing Adventure Express. I assumed its just a bug with that game, but it affects all audio running on the tablet until I clear the game from Recents. Stock 5.0.1 rooted
Sounds like your devices are haunted
Anyway, never experienced anything like it
I get playback issues with the Comedy central app that are fixed by a restart I have a feeling it has to do with some of the lollipop memory leaks.
I have had no issues yet but for this to be a HTC tablet I would think it would have better sound like on the M7 and M8. Still sounds good and love the speakers on the front
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
I've had it happen straight out of the box. Then a couple time times later on, completely stock. Have yet to experience this on SimpleAOSP, but I'm sure the bug is still present, just haven't noticed it yet.
Edit: This is not a speaker issue, but more a software issue. It happens with headphones as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...e-sound-using-earphones-t3032098#post58898735
Reboot
I have experienced it one time only. A reboot fixed it. It looks like a SW/driver issue to me. Not a huge problem, but taking the price of the Nexus 9 into consideration, it would be nice to have it fixed
