Ok this might be a noob question but I DID spent more then half hour looking for an asnwer before posting and could not find my answer. so here it is.
When I am roaming every time I make a call I need to type in 0+area code+operator (phone company) before I enter the number.
However I normally use the numbers that are already in my contact list, if I click on it it will dial without the additional information, because in my home city I don´t need this codes and so I didn´t inserted the phone numbers with 0+AC+Op info.
Is there a way to configure my phone to add 0+Area Code+ Operator when I am away from my home city? And also the HD2 recognize that I am in the area code of an outside city and do not dial 0+AC+Op for this specific city when I am on it?
Thank you
Felipe

Ok it seems obvious that I can just input the 0+phone company number+area code before the number and save it in the contacts, it works, what if I change my operator (phone company)? I will have to go thru every single contact and change each number with the new number?
I wonder if there is a way to manually input it when I am roaming, like in the old nokias and LG once I was roaming and I dialed a number in contact list it asked for area code and operator number.

need to dial international and domestic call frequently. however, unlike handspring treo, xda did not allow to recall the phone number from contact and then manually add the prefix, e.g. 00986 + city code + number... etc. Any suggestion here?

Yes. It'll take some time, but it'll solve your problem for once and all: change all your stored numbers to international format, e.g. +49 (89) 555255 for a number in Munich, Germany. Numbers in this format will work from everywhere in the world (the '+' does the magic here), and of course also from the country or town the called party is in.
It's probably much easier to do this in Outlook, then synchronise the numbers back to your XDA.
Cheers

tks for your advice. however, in hong kong, we have many IDD service providers while if using "+", it will choose the most expensive service provider which i don't want to. well... i am always travelling around between hong kong and china and i have to add both local dial prefix and IDD dial prefix for each tel number, both office, mobile and home. you know, this is really really annoying and time wasting. hope there will be some temporary solutions here including some charged software solution.
Hi there,
MS Outlook on my desktop PC has all my contacts in +44 format (for some reason). Now I've synced my Trinity up, the contacts have transferred over in this format. When I try to dial the number the call doesn't connect. Instead T-Mobile thinks I am using keypad codes to toggle my voicemail.
I guess my questions are:
1. Is there a simple change I can make on the handset for it to accept +44 contacts? Or do I need to change them all back to 01753 etc.
2. If I *do* need to change them all back, will I be able to make international calls when I eventually make it abroad with this device? Or will I have to change back to +44.
3. Finally, if I'm abroad and use skype in a WLAN hotspot, will I need to use +44 or the regular UK dialling codes, say 01753?
Many thanks!
Ermmm it should "just work" tm.........
You havent accidentally added a 0 after the +44?
ie 01652 becomes +441652 and NOT +4401652
otherwise in windows have you checked you have set an area code anywhere? IIRC in the dialup section type thingy.
IF you change tham all to 01 etc then when you go abroad you need to drop the 0 and add +44
No idea about Skype
Personally all my contacts are a mixture of +44 or 01's depending whether I want to call them fom abroad or not and dont ever have an issue dialing them.
But hope the above is a little helpful
hi,
you're right. they all have a 0 after the 44. Outlook did this so i'm hoping it's fairly easy to remove them all as a global change.
thanks for helping me out.
at home now sitting in front of my pc.
can i get it to work?
no i cant.
outlook won't delete the first zero, ie (0)1753
the help section is a joke.
can anyone help please?
TIA
it seems that outlook on the pc is sensible enough to know to know if a number is dialled, the first zero is auto dropped.
but this is not the case with the handset. it will try and dial whatever numbers are in the contact fields (i think).
note: my handset is working. if i delete the preceeding +44, the number is called.
i've tried searching this site's for answers but to no avail.
has anyone else had this problem?
cheers
i'm either incredibly thick or MS office dont consult with MS Mobile.
sorry for multiple posts!
Remove all dialling rules and save all numbers using +44 xxxxyyyyyyyy. That's what I have done long time ago and it works fine. It also helps to deal with Italian numbers where you need to leave the 0 in when calling a fixed network number.
PS: I think you need to go through the manual editing process though
Thanks for the info. However I need to have my hand held with this.
"Remove all dialling rules"
Is this on my Desktop PC outlook or on the handset?
"save all numbers using +44 xxxxyyyyyyyy"
Have I got to re-enter every number on the Desktop PC outlook?
And do I include the first zero or leave it blank?
CHeers!

On the handheld: go to the Settings, Connections, Advanced, Dialing Rules and make sure "use dialing rules" is not selected.
Then go to Outlook on your PC and remove all zeros and all brackets from all numbers; put the numbers the same way you would dial them on the phone keypad (when calling from abroad). You don't need to re-enter all numbers, you need to edit them, which is just slightly less boring I am afraid.
Ops.... Are you also using your PC connected to a land line modem to dial numbers? I hope not because in that case it would not work as you cannot dial a "+" from a land line!

Oh this is easy! On Skype you always need country codes.
I have searched and searched trying to find a fix! (Sorry if this has already been asked, i could not find what i was looking for)
On my HTC Ozone when dialing a number i have to enter the area code for the contact to show up on the screen.
On my old WM phone if i dialed XXX-XXXX it would auto change the number XXX-XXX-XXXX when it dialed.
for some reason the ozone does not add the area code. I have checked the default area code and it is set to 405 (which is Oklahoma) and still does not work!
Any help would be great!!!!

It wont show up if you are dialing within the same area code. Also make sure your area code is enclosed like (XXX) XXX-XXXX
I have my wife'snumber stored in contacts. I noticed that when I dial manually, unless I enter the area code it doesn't pick up that I'm calling her. Other phones I have used allowed meto set my "local" area code and assume if I didn't dial one the local is assumed. AM I missing something, or does this setting not exist on the hero.
My Hero assumes my local area code when I dial without one. I haven't had to adjust any options for this to work.
its been a standard for the last few years that you need to dial 1+(area code) when dialing a number.
its possible it depends on your area, i live in a large city myself so there are many overlapping area codes, so its kind of a necessity.
its POSSIBLE this is the case.

The point is with most all phones/carriers including my current Hero on Sprint, if you dial a 7-digit number without an area code, the phone assumes that it is in your registered area code. (Not the area code of your location, BTW.)
It sounds like there is a glitch with the OP's Sprint service.

Which ROM did you flash after rooting your phone?
I've noticed the same thing. All of my contacts are in the 865 area code. If I dial 660 nothing pops up for my wifes contact, but if I dial 865-660...it pulls up her contact info.
Because we are still pretty rural, we still use 7 digit dialing. Dialing the area code is pretty useless around here so It's a habit I have to get my self into I guess. Kinda sucks if you fat finger something and there us no confirmation of the contact you are dialing.

Sprint sends the area code with the phone number, though, so if you don't store the area codes, your caller ID won't show you the names either.
All the Sprint leaks act like this, although 1.5 did not. Hopefully it won't work that way in the release.

yeah that's the issue. I was just surprised that the number wasn't recognized without it I guess.
I think it is that way because when you type a number it searches from whole words and the phone number is considered one word so it needs to start from the beginning.
If you haven't noticed you can type in someones name and it will pop them up.
Also another weird thing is if you type a phone number with area code and then type a number 1+area code you will get two different lists because the 1+area code shows up in the call log and the search pulls from there as well.
Can someone clarify if WM7 will show both the full name and company for incoming calls.
I save all my contacts in outlook and use the File As to show both Person & Company i.e. John Smith(ABC Ltd).
I have over 1500 contacts for work and it's one of the features that has kept me with Windows for years.
I've tried Android and that doesn't do it. Iphone doesn't do it. Nokia doesn't do it - Not sure about Blackberry.
Also does WM7 have smart dial - I'm sure I read that it didn't, again it's a feature that's kept me with Windows, I have a shocking memory and being able to dial by first name, last name, company or telephone number is invaluble.
Cheers
Pete
For me it shows only 1st and last name + picture if available. Company info is a no go as long as you don't incorporate it in the contact name itself as I usually do.
Smartdial: No. But searching the contact list is easy. Just type 2-3 letters and you have narrowed the results enough. I'm saying this with 700+ contacts.
...I very much like to use voice dial, too. Very reliable, in fact, and fast.

That's really dissapointing - as a business tool I find it so very useful.
I guess I'll have to stick with 6.5 until something else similar comes along.

Dear All,
I'm experiencing very strange issue with my WP7 HTC HD2, when receiving call form my saved contacts.
Almost all my contacts are saved in my phone with international dialing code as I'm living abroad.
When I receive call abroad, the name of my contact is displayed.
When I receive call at home the name is not displayed, only the number is displayed and I dont know who is calling while the number is saved in my phone with international dialing code.
To have the name displayed I have to save the number again without international dialing code.
I have the same issue when I dialing also.
Please help.
