NOVA 2 IS working original droid with stock froyo.
Step 1 if you are in any roms on original droid download stock froyo from moto u can google it and find the rom on Droid life.
Droid 1 only!!!
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/11/11/download-frg83-froyo-for-original-droid/
Step 2 download the file Desire z snapdragon.
Step 3 download file manager or check your download from browser and check allow to download outside of android market apps.
Step 4 upload the apps and enjoy.
Thank me because i did this because ppl think that droid 1 is outdated is far from it debs make the phone outdated not the device.

I know I know, there are probably lots of threads on this but I'm having a difficult time finding them.
Basically I just need some guidance in how to go about
1) Rooting the phone
2) installing whatever is needed to flash a ROM
3) how to flash a ROM
Let me know, I have a droid incredible and I'm very familiar with that process- but since the X has a locked bootloader it seems it's different here.
Look for z4root, droidx bootstrap and do lots of reading.

Already did, here's where I'm dumbly stuck.
I download z4root off of here since it was removed from the market. I have the settings enabled where I should be able to install apk's that are not form the market, however when I try to run the download it'll tell me "can not find program to run this file".
Pretty annoying and frustrating, any suggestions?
FYI it is definitely .apk I didn't rename the extension to anything else.
Did you download it directly to your phone? You need to download it to your computer and then move the file to the sdcard. Don't know why but it worked for me. I was having the same problem.

Ah ok, yes I did download it to the phone. Weird because my incredible didn't have to do that.
I guess different phones have different ways.
My sister with the droid x is out and about, so I hope to work on it when she gets back and hopefully get a good ROM going on it.

The file here at this link will work no parsing error when downloaded to phone, there are some other vids on the channel that may be of use

Thanks, finally got it all working (yesterday) but wanted to post to thank you guys for the input and also to say how amazed I am at how much smoother and quicker the phone is without the bloat.
Didn't realize it was tied down so much.
Ah crap.....based on that endorsement I'm DEFINITELY gonna have to root now!

I rooted my sisters Droid X, my dad has the same exact droid X phone unrooted.
Comparing the 2 is completely different in how quick they are.
My dad's phone is a headache of lagginess and disappointment in speed.
Quite the opposite on the rooted phone.
I used the Liberity 1.5 ROM and also downloaded Launcher Pro from the market (just suggestions ) I never liked ADW launcher.
Hello everyone, I'm somewhat of a novice still to rooting android phones. I had the Samsung Fascinate previously, and it was a really simple process..but I had returned it for a Droid 2 R2D2 edition a week or so afterwards. Ever since then I've had the desire to root it and install a custom rom (something vanilla gingerbread or equivalent) to it, but I've been so confused about the differences between the Droid 2 R2D2 edition from the regular Droid 2 that I've been too intimidated to venture into world of it. But tomorrow I'm getting the Droid X2 probably (unless someone here would like to suggest a different phone) and I'm willing to experiment
So my question is..can someone give me a general idea of the process I need to take for my Droid 2 R2D2 from rooting to the rom I should use? Thanks guys!
Use z4 root
It is the easiest way.
It may not work first time, just reboot the phone if it doesn't and it should work the second time.
Search for the latest z4root apk on google (I don't know if its in the market)
As for roms, I have no idea if d2 roms will work with the r2d2. Check out fission rom at teamdefuse.net
Contact one of the developers and ask them

Also remember before flashing any roms, you must install the droid 2 bootstrap application (because of the locked bootloader)
This can be found on the market

In my opinion, i have heard some one said an paid app can solve this problem. Can anyone give me a detail link. Thanks in advance.

If you already have 2.3 loaded on the phone, there's no way to root it right now. You have to flash the 2.2 SBF, root that, buy and install the Droid 2 Bootstrap from the market (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.droid2.bootstrap&hl=en), and then buy the Team Black Hat app here - http://shop.teamblackhat.info/Software_c3.htm. After you install the Team Black Hat app, you can install a version of 2.3 that's pre-rooted.
Also, all of this information is in the forums here, spread out in different threads. Since the Droid Pro forums aren't the most active around these parts, it wouldn't take long to flip through a few pages and find all of this out in much more detail.
There is a way to root the droid pro, i did it today in five minutes following the instructions in the d3 forum on rootzwiki.com worked great.

Which implementation for "Flash ClockworkModRecovery" should I use with rooted GB 2.3.5, Milestone X, C-Spire (Cellular South)?
Droid X or Droid 2?
Thanks.
pretty sure that it is droid 2 droid x
Nothing (none of the options w/ uninstall and wiping of the Clockwork Folder) worked, then I got "DROID X Bootstrapper" from a MegaDownload or something similar
and
made my first backup. Great!
Now to tackle Custom ROMS and pitfalls. I still need to efficiently get to SBF my phone back to FROYO for security.
Definitely DROID X Bootstrapper from market......worth the money impo..
on gingerbread with the x... droid 2 bootstrap actually works better... so when ya buy one to support the dev... get droid 2 bootstrap... so you can keep usb debugging enabled...
Good to know Nemo.... Wait a minute, hell, I'm using debugging right now with the first 1.....???? What's up with that?

check the link in my signature below. there is a link to Doomlord's zergrush root.
I tried the zergrush root but my phone would not down load. It kept saying that the down load was unsuccessful or that it failed. My phone was rooted before but when I did the update it messed up. Help. Im new to all this and still trying to learn.
That isn't an application you use on your phone...
And .zips won't download with the stock browser, is your problem.
Download it to your PC and run it with your phone plugged in.

before you say it doesn't work you need to run this from a computer with your phone connected
I have a Droid 2 currently rooted and running the following versions:
Android 2.3.7
Kernel 2.6.32.9-g462500f
CyanogenMod-7-11162011
I now want to get a new phone and give my Droid 2 to my kid. Before letting her have it I'd like to return it to a basic default Droid 2, no root, no mods.
Can someone point me toward a link showing how to do this or something close? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Presuming that it doesn't have the .621 update (came out early this year), the easiest would probably be to download an EzSbf from
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/161849-tool-ezsbf.html
If you have the .621 update, you would need to flash the stock 2.3.4 SBF. There is an ezsbf style one available at
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/29930-new-root-method-for-stock-234-621622-found-droid2-r2d2/
but someone was having trouble with it the other day. While resolving their problem, they used a different USB cable, so not sure if the problem was the cable or the CD initially.
The other alternative is to use RSDLite, with Windows, but some have had trouble with the drivers necessary for windows.
You need to both SBF as well as wipe data/cache to get everything completely back to stock. The instructions above should get you most of the way through.
