[Q] transfering files through usb - problems - SD roms - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hope someone can help me.
I'm having strange issues with transfering files through USB, using Android (sd version). Tried 3 gingerbread roms and when I try to copy the files to the sd card, after setting up the usb connection on the phone, they don't show up in the file explorer when I unmount the card.
But if I enter windows mobile, they are there. If I copy the files in windows mobile, they are recognised by the android rom.
I've formatted the card in Panasonic Formatter, but still the same (with 16kb and 32kb clusters).
Anyone?

No need to open another thread, the same question can be found on the first page as well
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143864

Damn, been searching the forums yesterday about this, and then someone posted. Sorry.
Thanks!

The file which was transferred via USB from PC to SD card can not be found

using different file manager...still can not find it
When i connect the HD2 to the PC via USB debugging mode and tranfer the file to SD card. I can see the file in the sd card.
After deactivating the harddisk mode, i go back to HD2. Using different file manager I can not find the file which i transferred and saw in the sd card on my PC.
Only after restart back to WM and again into Android, the file can be found.
Can someone help to solve this problem?
I'm guessing some file corruption issue, as has been stated a couple of times. Remember that the USB host functionality is far from working perfectly, since you're running the OS from the same storage you're trying to save the file to. I'd say try a different build or wait for a Rom that can be flashed to nand...

[Q] microSD card problem / dissapearing files / LOST.DIR

Hi,
About month ago I bought a new 16GB micro SDHC card from Kingston (product page at kingston.com/ukroot/flash/sdhc_micro.asp ) for my HTC Hero (GSM version). Since them I'm having a problems with copying and accessing my files from this card.
According to seller, this should be Class 6 card, here is the auction:
allegro.pl/kingston-microsd-16gb-class6-najszybsza-na-allegro-i1233201913.html
Getting to the point... Situation is like this:
(I tried all those things listed below under Froyd 1.5 and Villain ROM 12, with latest radio)
I connect my Hero to PC (on xp or ubuntu) and I copy files to card (...big deal . After that I wait for a few seconds and unmount the disk on PC and turn off USB MassStorage on Hero, then I unplug the usb cable. Card is then normally mounted. After that, when I try to access those files i.e.: via Astro, Music player or PDF reader, I cannot do this, because all copied files disappeared or sometimes they're are on the card but are corrupted and any app can't open them. Moreover all copied directories are there but all are empty.
I tried various ways to copy files: via adb, ftp, dropbox, recovery mode (amonRa 1.7). I even tried removing all spaces from dir and file names, it doesn't matter, but every time it's the same.
I also noticed a lot of files in LOST.DIR on card. I know that the system stores there files that weren't properly copied and/or card was unmounted too fast, but usually there is less files that I copied. I even tried to rename few of those files (that I know that were mp3 or pdf) and add mp3 or pdf extension to them, but music player or pdf reader showed error that file is corrupted or something similar.
I followed also tutorial from the unclockr:
theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-switch-to-a-different-microsd-card-on-android-when-using-swap-hero-and-or-apps2sd/ but with same result.
Any ideas, how to solve the problem? (beside returning the card to the seller?)
ps.
Cheers,
J
Ok, I think we can close this topic.
I checked this card in another telephone (different than at first time), and situation was the same.
I have to return this card to the seller.

[Q] can't see files on SDCard after transfer

Hey,
trying to copy files from my pc via usb to android. I am running MDJ Froyo Revolution 1.4.
Set the phone to mass storage, can copy files to the sdcard from WinXP or Win7, but after transfer, Android won't see the files I copied. Files are on the card, because when I look at the card directly via cardreader, files are there.
Any suggestions?

It's a known issue with file transfers to and from the SD Card via Android. Try and unmount your SD Card (via Settings -> SD and Storage -or something like that- -> Unmount SD card), pop it out, wait for about 5 seconds then pop it back in. If that doesn't work, rebooting will surely do the trick.
If what anrabi4 wrote doesn't work, try transfering the files in WinMo and then switch to android.
in this way worked for me and in unmount way didn't weird.
download an app call SDRescan from market.

[Q] Booting ICS Rom off SD...no SD card detected

Hi,
I am booting ICS on my HD2 off an SD card (because WP7 is on the NAND) which all works fine but then when I am in ICS it says there is no SD card even though I just booted off the SD card because that is where the ICS folder is!
I am new to all this so I am wondering if I have made a fundamental mistake like maybe I am supposed to make a folder somewhere on the SD card called \sdcard or something like on my LG GT540?? I tried another SD but same thing. I did find someone else with this issue on a HD2 but they said they just formatted it a few times but I am guessing there is something else I am not doing.
Thanks in advance.
Olly
Facing the same problem
You got any reply from anyone ???
My SD Card is also not detected, i have rebooted atleast 10 times but its not working out.
Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
Well I'm not a developer or even programmer but this might be some script issue or mount point "mistake". SD Card exist but is only accessible from "bootsdcard" folder placed on device. You can browse it from es file explorer or any fm.
Mount SD card in MAGLDR (not recovery) and format with SDFormatter
I had similar issue but it get solved only by formatting with SDFormatter not Easus or Windows tool. Use SD formatter tool while mounting in MAGLDR (not recovery)

This issue for me was present with dorimanx kernel.
P.S. I already wrote this on other two topics in this sub-forum. Similar topic is already on the first page on this sub-forum.

[Q] Problem writing to SD card

Has anyone else experienced problems writing files to external SD card just lately? All I know is that the SD card works fine If I use it on the computer with a card reader.
For instance if I copy 300mb of titaniumbackup files it will randomly stop in the process and tell me there is a problem writing the files. This also happens with other files. I can't seem to find anything in the logs either, but then I'm not exactly sure what to look for.
I've tried ES file explorer, the CM11 file explorer and FX file exporer. I've reformatted the SD card using CWM, put it in my card reader on my computer and was able to copy over 40gb of data flawlessly so the card doesn't seem to be corrupt.
I'm not really sure where to start with the troubleshooting, as I said before I'm not sure what I'm looking for in the log files regarding failed file transfers.

If the sdcard is not already formatted with fat32 your best bet is to format it
fat32 and there is an excellent chance that you will be able to use it in your
phone and computer without any further issues.
Here is a direct download link for the windows fat32 formatter:

Good luck!

I switched to slimkat rom to try it out. It's also based on 4.4 and the same kernel as what I had before. I re-formatted the sd card to fat32 at the same time but everything seems to work now. I wonder what it was. Maybe just a kitkat bug with exfat that still needs to be sorted out
