[Q] Rooting Droid X on 2.3 Gingerbread? - Droid X General

Hi =]
I recently updated to 2.3 I had my Droid X rooted with Z4root but now my phone isn't rooted because I updated.
Is there any way to root the Droid X on 2.3?
I also tried Gingerbreak..but that just sits there for like 45 min and doesn't do anything.
Hopefully someone can help.
Thanks

You must flash the prerooted Gingerbread build by p3droid.
Gingerbread can't be rooted through z4, gingerbreak, etc.

Do you happen to have the link for that?

Hey steveojp, take a look at one of the sticky threads in this forum. That thread has already picked up some steam with respect to rooting Gingerbread.

This should go without saying, but you have to root to flash roms.

New here

Just purchased a dx off of swappa.com because my incredibles screen is shattered. Its gonna be my temporary phone until I can get the incredible repaired.

Welcome to the DX family. If you're into custom roms I would suggest the Liberty 3 v2.0 rom. We don't have a whole lot of full functioning ICS roms available yet (camera driver issues) but they might be coming.

It is impossible to brick a Droid X.
As long as your system version is not .621 you can root and flash any Gingerbread or ICS rom.
If your system version is .621 rooting and returning to an earlier build are impossible.

Luckily the Droid X is full-proof.

Yeah it's impossible to brick the droid x for the most part. Easy to soft brick but you can always sbf back. I've had great luck with all my motorola devices.
I've been using MIUI 2.2.5 for DX for the last few weeks. It's built off Gingerbread, but themed to ICS. It has full camera support and has been very stable for me.
Can anyone gtalk with me? I have a BUNCH of questions and don't wanna clog general. [email protected]

[Q] Cyanogen Mod 7.2 Installation - Droid X

The release of CM7.2 seems to have gone unnoticed in the Droid X community. The code name for the Droid X "Shadow" has a release: download[DOT]cyanogenmod[DOT]com/?device=shadow&type=
So my question is can the CM7.2 Rom be installed on OTA .605 or do I have to SBF back to the froyo kernel? That was the reason I didn't install CM7. This was because the CM7 Rom was based on the froyo kernel.
It actually hasn't gone unnoticed.
The official version still uses the Froyo kernel; however, you can download an unofficial version over at Rootzwiki that will absolutely fly.

I have been using it until today and it works great and very fast. I'm just testing out miui.

Anyway to get CM7 on...

I am just wondering if it is possible to flash CM7 to my DROID X .621 2.3.4? I don't want to sbf down or downgrade or anything.

Droid 2 Noob

Hi all, my mom will be getting a new Droid 2 soon that she'll be using on a page plus prepaid plan and I just have a few questions. I know that there is a lot of information here of the forums but things change so often with development that I think I'll get a better answer if I just ask you experinced guys directly.
I'm just looking for the most stable ROM for her, and the best battery life. It doesn't have to be the newest and greatest, it just has to work when she needs it so that she doesn't get irritated with it.
Thanks in advance.
Just stick with stock if she's inexperienced.

Will stock run smooth enough with out any freezing?
It came today and it had 2.2, I think i'll update it to 2.3 though.
It works for the 95% of the users who don't get pissed off enough to come here and change it
.sbf to the second-to latest firmware. If you OTA, you'll end up with the latest, un-rootable update, making any future development impossible.

On your question about most stable Roms, Galnet MIUI 2.2.10 was the best I've used as far as being issueless. Just behind that would be CM9.
If you do decide to flash MIUI you'll probably want to install a different launcher for her as well if she's used to Android and not looking for a change. Otherwise just let her run with it and see how she likes it.
