Hi
I recently purchased an A500 while away in Taiwan and I love it.
The only problem is since I got back last week and tried to change the time zone on it to my home zone it does not save the change after I switch it off.
It also does not save anything else I change on it for example app updates, wifi passwords.
I have tried to reset it using a USB keyboard and hitting the home key after pressing power on and the volume switch, but it still goes back to where it was?
I'm hoping the 3.1 update that comes will fix this as I have seen people comment on the time zone issue but I haven't found anyone describe that the tablet is frozen in time.
Should I be more concerned?
Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

same problem with european/german version...any solutions yet?

Hi ! I purchased recently my Acer Iconia A500, and so far I'm very impressed with it. The only concern I have is this annoying sleep of death issue. It occurs to me like 3x a day, everyday ! I've tried everything written by the people (setting airplane mode, disabling wifi when screen blackens, update) but with no success.. anyone knows if this is going to be fixed in the 3.1 update or any update by Acer ? Anyone successfully managed to solve this problem ? Thanks !
Just to know.. I really wish that it's a software problem because I live in Brasil and bought it last week in EUA, so I won't be able to change it xP
As I mentioned in another thread, this has never happened to me. Not before or after the update.
The only thing I may do different from anyone else is I leave USB debugging turned on, I have a password login and as you mention I set the wifi profile to turn off when the screen goes off.
If this is happening 3 times or more a day, I'd highly recommend replacing the tablet. Yes, I know that's extremely inconvenient in your case...
But, have you tried a reset to factory defaults? It's worth a shot...
Prior to the 1.141-update my tab had that too, several times a day. I've put a WiFi-toggle widget on my desktop to be able to switch off WiFi before putting the tablet to sleep - that almost completely got riid of the inresponsiveness after sleep.
After the update to 1.141 there is no need anymore to switch off WiFi while sleeping, the update fixed that problem. But introduced a new one: when disconnecting the charger the tablet sometimes stops responding after about 1 minute and needs a reset.
Is anybody else having issues when waking their tab? Sometimes when pressing the screen wake button I get a black screen for a while. I usually have to wait and then press the screen wake button a couple times before the lock screen appears.
Other than this issue the Tab is great!
Any help would be great, Thanks!
Change your router wifi channel to a different number. Was an issue on xoom also.

Thanks, the issue still happens even with wifi off but it doesn't happen as much.
same issue
ok I've performed a factory reset and the problem is still there both with and without wifi
I had the same issue with my Acer. So I returned it. I now have the GT 10.1
Wonder if it's a Honey Comb issue?
So far I haven't had the isse on this device yet.

I was thinking about exchanging mine tomorrow but if its a honeycomb thing I may just wait for a software update
Are you using 3.0.1 or 3.1
I know 3.0.1 its not a wake issue its a crash issue where you have to hold down the on/off button for 10-15 secs to get it to reboot. I was hoping the 3.1 would fix this alas 3.1 is not yet available for the 10.1v
This sounds like a similar issue that some Transformer owners are experiencing too, SOD?
I've had this issue maybe twice. I hope it gets fixed with a software update.
Issue is occurring with the stock android 3.1 on my tab 10.1
ok just exchanged mine at frys and there is no longer an issue. If you were suffering the same problem i suggest you do the same. Might be a bad batch going around (ahh the price we pay for being early adopters). Thanks for the help everyone!
wierd....acer users reported similar issues.
I had mine do this last night. It was plugged in when I went to bed. Woke up and had to hold down the power button for a bit to get it to restart. Running 3.1.
Though I heard somewhere that it might be an app issue.
I'm also having the same exact issue. In fact, it's worse on 3.1. Now, the screen simply will not come back up until the device is rebooted. I know the tablet is awake because I can hear notification sounds going off.
I wrote Samsung's developer support so we'll see what happens there. Luckily, I received mine at the IO but it does make returning it difficult.
Odd, I have a 16gb 10.1 retail and haven't had this issue at all.
But it is not!
Last night I put it on the dock, and this morning I took it out, but the clock kept on the screen.
I can hit the back button and access apps, but whenever I press the HOME button it goes back to the clock screen.
It behaves exactly as if it were still on the dock.
Does anyone else get this?
Does it have any relation to the sleep of death? Is it an indication that I might get the death problem if I use the dock again. I'm afraid now...
Help!
Paulo
Anyone please?
Have you tried restarting the device?
Restarting the device should fix the issue. I have to go thru a similar process with my keyboard dock.

Yes, restarting fixed it.
Stupid bug.
But I'm afraid it is somehow related to the sleep of death, and restarting wont fix it some day...

Hey,
I got a i9500 and i have a problem with the home button.
Sometimes when i push the home button it opens the multitasking windows although i didnt do a long push. It happes sometime and it really annoys me.
If someone knows how to solve it please tell me.
Thanks,
Eden
By the way, dont tell i dont know to push a short push beause this is NOT the problem. I gave it to some friends and it happened to them too.
Your button is sticking. When you press it it does not come up fast enough.
Did you get any juice or sweat in the button ?

If it is trutly a physical defect with the home button your best but most annoying option is to take back the phone and have it changed with a new one.
Another thing to do is to do a factory reset (just in case there is a software bug causing the button to act this way)

This are my last options. I dont want to replace my phone neither to wipe it.
If you someone encounter this problem please help me.
Thanks
I have the same problem with my phone. Runing stock ROM.
The home button will trigger the task manager upon waking up the phone. This is driving me absolutly crazy. I hate lock screens and passwords just to get to the home screen.
Once the home screen is up this behavior stops.
I just tested the time it takes to hold the home button and launch the task manager alongside with my old Galaxy S2 and the latter needs a longer hold on the button.
The home button is not sticky, it has a normal feel and click.
Please help
Actually my problem i not at the waking up of the phone but in the home screen or in any app.
HELP
Just made an account because I'm having the exact same issue and was wondering if you were able to fix it at all because this happened to my phone very suddenly so I'm wondering if it's a software issue.. Please reply.
One thing I noticed is that this never happens when I'm on the home screen, only when have an app open. Also, it doesn't feel like the button is sticking by any means. My phone is a week old..

I'm having this same issue. When I'm at the home screen it doesn't "stick", but only when I'm in an application. What's up with this behavior? It's a recent development. Could this be a software issue? I have a Verizon S4 and it hasn't had a software update at all yet.
Any solutions, or maybe there's an app we all have that is causing this?
UPDATE
I've made this happen on the home screen, usually by pressing near the middle of the home button, however this only starts happening after the phone has been on for a while. I'm so confused as to whether this is a hardware or software issue, or maybe a combination of both.

The home button problem was gone for a while, but a week ago, it came back and I decided to call T-Mobile. They immediately said it was a software issue and recommended me to do a factory reset. So I did and it seems to be working perfect now, haven't had the home button sticking or giving any problems for about a week now.you should definitely give that a try.hope it helps.
hey guys.
I switched some ROMs after that and it solved the problem. I can only assume it is a software bug.
try upgrading to the newest version(I use 4.3)
Hope you will all solve it as i did.
Hi everyone!
So I just had this problem after I woke up yesterday. I googled a lot but only found similiar problems.
Let me tell you what happened chronologically:
After turning the phone on in the morning it started updating apps as if I was doing a firmware update: "updating apps 1 of 135" etc. Note that my nexus was already running on 5.1.1 and had the latest updates installed.
Now it randomly freezes the screen on whatever screen it was before it happens and it won't respond to any touch input. This can also happen when not using the phone, then it will freeze at the lockscreen (the time freezes with it so sometimes i can see at what time it froze). Also, it loses connection with Wi-Fi as i'm using Whatsapp Desktop when i'm on my laptop and it mentions me that my phone is not connected.
The only thing that "fixes" (temporarily) it is a reboot. Now sometimes, on the lockscreen, i can just hold the power button and the pop-up comes in to turn the phone of, which i can somehow just tap on an it responds by turning the phone off. But sometimes (less frequent than the latter mentioned) the pop-up doesn't come in and holding the power button for a few secs will do the trick.
I hope I informed you all enough and my end question is: does any of you know what this is? How i can fix it or what i can do to prevent it or anything as I am hopeless. (my G3 is up for reparation so this is my sisters old phone, i had a nexus 4 myself for 2 years before the G3).
Thanks in advance!!
The best way to test it is by reformat the OS.
I positively think that it will solve the problem.
Since the phone is no longer under warranty, I guess there is no harm to install custom rom on it. They are fast and stable too.
Hope this help. Good luck.

EXACT thing happened to me too. Backup your data and hard reset from recovery. This fixed it for me
Same problem here bro, but neither custom roms or factory reset helps.... Is there anyone who has successfully solved the problem ?

Then it's time to change the screen or phone. Looks like it is a hardware issue.

I agree, your screen needs to be replaced.
