Hopefully a MDPI MIUI port is one of those ROMs
Anyway, I'm excited but I'm sure most people will have a new phone by then.

My guess is, they are waiting to the release day of the HD7, then to appease the HD2 owners until they pluck down money for the new model, they deliver a lukewarm update. It's not a bad update at all, solid, and stable, it's just that it fails to add anything new and or exciting, application or feature wise.
I see the updates for EU, in all the 3.14.4xx.2 flavors, and it irks me. Football provided the leaked 3.14.531.0 TMOUS ROM a month ago and yet T-Mobile has yet to post it for download. Not that I would RUN a plain jane vanilla ROM like that for long. And yes, we have the packages in the builds our esteemed chefs are providing.
It's just that I know why T-Mobile has not provided. They are all busy with the Shiny new HD7 to bother with updates for a phone that they are likely to pull in a few weeks. No M-O-N-E-Y in it. That's okay, they are a business and entitled to look for profitable moves, but it's the loyalty thing that gets pushed aside, and over the long haul, that will hurt them more.
I here that....no loyalty....tmous notorious for that...will see what happens, Ty all xda chefs for helping us revive a dead hd2!!!!!!

still patiently waiting
Any news of a release date?
i find it hard to understand why the rom upgrade cannot be made available to all hd2 users on the same day
say what? I got a text message nearly 2 weeks ago stating that the update was available and I downloaded it and installed it on October 19,2010 straight from T-mobile's website.
I have been contacting HTC and different departments and contacts to find out when all the backlog source data will be released...

Yea sounds like its coming sometime in 2011....not holding my breath
Have you really been bugging these people for this?

I was asked to by some Evo Developers who want the source code updates to look at. I have experience with getting manufacturers (specifically Samsung in the past) to actually commit and release the opensource code protected by the GNU GPL v2.

most developers are curious how HTC removed the 30 fps cap (took methods developers here created or some alternative way).
also, having the real drivers from HTC for the new hardware 4 phones, basically diff hardware camera is used and i dont think anybody has released a working custom kernel with the correct drivers for the hw 4 camera. it would be nice to see the source code to know for sure whether or not any other hardware changed in ver 4.
among other things, its always great to have the latest source code for the kernel they release as it allows us to keep creating custom kernels either based on HTC's latest drivers or at least be able to use their source code as reference.
hope that helps satisfy your curiosity as to why we are very very happy to finally hear a response from HTC, who hasnt released any of their linux modified kernel source code which falls under the GPL v2 license, for the last few months.
Glad to see you're on it numus I've been wondering what's taking them so long and why more people haven't been complaining about it.
^ 5 bru!!!!!

"Soon" in HTC or Valve Time usually translates to "three to eighteen months."
Looks like it's finally out!

Wonder how long before rom devs start incorporating this into their kernels and roms
Samsung conforms to source 100% better than HTC now. But HTC actually updates their software
I hope soon. I need some custom kernels on my evo. I got that new cam in mine.

guys we are just **** out of luck.... all HTC care about is to kiss sprint customers ass... nothing else.... providing updates to Evo Evo 3D and Merge... thats their world... all the other ppl dont matter
Edit: just did live chat myself.... here it is....
Ian: Hi Muneeb, thank you for contacting HTC Support. How may I help you today?
Muneeb : hello
Muneeb : i want to know when should we expect gingerbread update for desire Z
Ian: The update to 2.3 should be available later this year.
Muneeb : previously it was told that the desire Z should get update before end of june . that no longer holds true correct?
Ian: I apologise I am unable to confirm this, I would advise you to look on our website for any updates as to when this is released.
Muneeb : okay.
Eh, I'm a bit more optimistic. These days, updates and such hardly ever come out at the planned release date. It makes sense from their standpoint to upgrade other phones too. There are so many more people on the Evo than on the G2/DZ for example, so it makes sense to upgrade the devices with the most users. Even if we don't get it officially or it doesn't come for a long time, we will still get custom ROMs with the updates.
the Dev community is the only reason im still using my desire Z . but this is definitively my last HTC device for sure..... i rather go with a developer edition phone (nexus series) next time.. or get myself nokia powered windows phone 7....(if they bring out some really really sweet hardware like the Sea Ray)
I can't live without the HTC Dialer. I like the Mail app much better too than stock. And there is massive dev support; I don't really see a downside to a HTC phone.
I am happily running Virtuous Unity 1.26 and its pretty near perfect!
You think HTC is bad with updates? Good luck with any other brand, much much worse.

Not to mention that HTC don't seem to tell the customer service anything regarding future updates. This has happened time again.
Ps, I've also had the "updates from other brands" rant many a time.. HTC are one of the better ones.
This is a bit of a letdown, but I know we'll get some nice ROMs for the Desire Z, so I'm not that worried.
Is it true that, from a developers point of view, being able to use an official HTC gingerbread rom will make for a much more stable foundation for future custom roms? That's always been the main reason why I've been hoping HTC release this update even though we currently have custom gingerbread roms.
Actually i am starting to lose faith about Htc's software division.
I credit them for making incredibly good phones, but their software division seems not to be the best. For example: They said on their Facebook page that they had abandoned the work on getting 2.3 on the old Desire, and when alot of people (including me) commented on that post about that people at XDA-Developers had gotten 2.3 to work on the old Desire several months ago, then Htc went out with "We WILL release 2.3 for the Desire, we started working on it again"
That made me doubt their competence in the software area...
and also i read that: Htc are only obliged to send out OTA updates the first 18 months after a product is released, so if the model you bought is more than 18 months, then you shouldn't be so sure to get any updates at all =/
btw, why wait for an official 2.3 when there is several good working 2.3 roms here at xda?
Don't get me wrong ICX is brilliant. Iv'e been waiting since December for the Data Usage to be fixed (3G)...
It must be hard since even Sony have moved their official ICS release from March to this Summer.
When did this happen? I was really looking forward to ice cream sandwhich on my xperia play this month. So we now have to wait longer.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I thought we get ICS at the end of April?
if your gonna drop a bomb like that please tell me you have proof?
I can't remember where I read this but sony said icx will be releases late april or early may.
Sent from my R800x using XDA
I'd love to have internet data whilst away from my Wi-Fi too. I'm sticking with ICX anyway as ICS on the Play is still going to have the standard Xperia skin job over the top
OS updates should make the device look completely different in my opinion as it makes it feel like having a new device. That's why I flashed ICX in the first place. That and it confuses staff in phone shops when it looks like a Galaxy Nexus . It should be like Xbox Live when the new update hit and changed EVERYTHING.
Alas, we can't change what phone companies decide to do with their products unfortunately.

I have noticed a few developers have backed away from developing for the 2011 Xperia Range and if Sony doesn't release JB, i could see CM10 being the last usable release for our phones in terms of latest software.
How do you guys see the future?.
its too early to say
I feel the same way but I'm ok with that.. everything has to come to a end..I'm just happy for the support cuz some phones don't have support not even a custom rom/kernel...
thank u dev team for all your hard work...
